The State Government gave its approval for the proposal recently, according to C. Uma Shankar, Managing Director of the ELCOT. SEZ He told The Hindu that sector-specific (IT and ITES) special economic zones (SEZ) were to be developed in Chennai, Madurai, Tiruchi, Hosur, Coimbatore and Tirunelveli. In Coimbatore, the Corporation was developing its facility apart from allotting land to a couple of companies. New proposal With the new proposal in hand, it planned to develop 50 acres in the Madurai SEZ, 50 acres in Tiruchi SEZ and 400 acres in the Tirunelveli SEZ through private partners. The Corporation could allot land to individual companies or develop its own facility too at these parks apart from the one through joint venture. In Chennai, an IT park was planned on 199 acres and the entire project would be through a private partner. Technical expertise The partner would bring in technical expertise apart from financial input. The ELCOT’s share would come in the form of land. A joint venture company would be formed with the private partner for each park to develop it. “This will enhance IT development in the State by taking up more projects,” he said. Infrastructure Further, the partner would have expertise in the field and would also develop the social infrastructure such as houses and commercial space at the park. These were the benefits in having the partners. Different models could be considered for development through private partner. The ELCOT would float tenders soon to select the partners, he added. Spotted by the district administration and sent for training, both speak accented English today, working as team agents at a rural call centre in Sanasandiram, one of the most backward hamlets in north Tamil Nadu. This back-office of a Geneva-based IT firm, which helps them earn Rs 5,000 per month, is ushering in a revolution of sorts in Sanasandiram, located in the Naxal-affected Krishnagiri district. District Collector Santosh Babu, who came up with Fostera (Fostering Technologies in Rural Areas) which is what the Azhaippy Maiyam or rural call centre is called, told this website's newspaper: “The transformation of the youths has been amazing. Seventy per cent of the units in the small and tiny sector are engaged in manufacturing important components for the automotive industry, with exports forming part of its main activity. Industrial hub It has been an industrial hub for more than two decades and home to manufacturing plants of Ashok Leyland, Titan Industries, TT Prestige, Reckitt Benckiser, Hindustan Lever, Carborandum Universal and TVS Motors. The basic infrastructure is firmly in place. However, large number of small and tiny vendor units are operating from scattered locations waiting for dedicated industrial units to leverage on common facilities to cut costs and invest on capacity expansions. Besides, with Bangalore also reaching a saturation point, Hosur with similar attributes of salubrious climate and on the Golden Quadrilateral highway route to Chennai, is ideally placed to attract fresh investments from large industries to create greater opportunities to the existing units to grow further, said Mr S. Ramani Srinivasan, President, Hosur Small and Tiny Industries Association (HOSTIA). Talking to Business Line, Mr Ramani Srinivsan said the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) had given an initial thrust two decades ago in turning this small township into a vibrant industrial hub, with an annual turnover of Rs 10,000 crore, there has been no significant investments lately. However, with globalisation offering opportunities, Hosur should realise its full potential with a planned approach in providing an integrated industrial infrastructure on priority basis. Hosur boasts of 1,500 small and tiny industrial units, serving as key tier two and three vendors to powerful players in the automotive and engineering manufacturing companies. It also accounts for the largest customs and excise revenue contribution of Rs 1,000 crore to the Central exchequer. Infrastructure With its proximity to the Bangalore airport, about 40 km, and the Mangalore Port, Hosur could become a new magnet for large investments if the township is provided direct rail connection to Chennai via Jalarpet and a feeder airline is developed to cope up with the future demands from corporates. With two SEZs proposed to be set up in the town, the regional air traffic is bound to grow, Mr Ramani Srinivasan pointed out. He said the real estate fever has not infected Hosur and hence the prices are competitive at about 25-30 per cent lower in areas closest to Bangalore. Mr Ramani Srinivasan said Small Industries Development Corporation Ltd set up a new industrial estate on 500 acres for relocation of the existing units and for new units to be set up to meet the growing demands of the industry. http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/2007/10/16/stories/2007101651762300.htm mukeshworld November 2nd, 2007, 09:58 AM The government is setting up a new IT park spread over 192 acres at Hosur near Bangalore, which is expected to get an investment of Rs 2,000 crore http://www.business-standard.com/common/storypage_c_online.php?leftnm=11&bKeyFlag=IN&autono=29495 rajandgr8 November 5th, 2007, 02:43 PM Hi all.. post more threads on Hosur(Industrial town) let others know more on this Little England rajandgr8 November 5th, 2007, 02:51 PM Tamil Nadu, which is focusing on building the state as the most preferred IT and ITeS destination is confident of emerging as the leader in these sectors by 2010, two top officials said on Tuesday. A total of 2,340 acres of government land across the state has been acquired and earmarked for development and Rs 100 crore has been allocated to the Electronic Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) for infrastructure development, ELCOT Director C Umashankar told reporters here. "Tamil Nadu is promoting its seven Tier II cities including Hosur, where it is establishing a smart city," he said. Hosur is located close to IT capital, Bangalore. The state attracted Rs 15,000 crore investment in the first 10 months of this year in IT, electronics and automobile sector, Umashankar said. Tamil Nadu Guidance Bureau (Single window agency) Director Velumurgan said by 2008 at least USD 1 billion investment would be made in the manufacturing sector alone. And Hosur is all set to become the next IT destination. Located just 30 km form Electronic City ( a 30 minutes drive ), Hosur enjoys a proximity to Bangalore s talent pool. Relatively low land rates, a sound infrastructure and a pleasant climate make it a great alternative to Bangalore. The approval of a Hosur Special Economic Zone (The Hindu, Bangalore Edition, 3rd Oct 2006), plans for a software technology park, a floriculture park and further development of the infrastructure here will only quicken the moving in of IT companies. The demand for residential space is directly linked to the demand for commercial space. It is only a matter of time before the need for living spaces will be realized and developed will flock to Hosur. Investing in Hosur now, is like investing in Gurgaon before the prices went up permanently. http://property.magicbricks.com/microsite/vakilhousingdevelopment/images/vhh_layout_large.jpg Sunny78 November 13th, 2007, 07:36 PM Hosur emerges as ‘Little Sivakasi’ Monday November 12 2007 14:11 IST Anitha Jaishankar HOSUR: Hosur has emerged as ‘Little Sivakasi’ with cracker sales crossing Rs 200 crore this Deepavali, thanks to increasing customers from neighbouring Bangalore. For the past ten years, about 200 fireworks manufacturers, including Standard and Anil Fire works from Sivakasi, have been setting up direct wholesale depots in Hosur during Deepavali to woo customers from Bangalore, where the Karnataka government has imposed several restrictions on cracker sales. In fact, traders in Bangalore were allowed to carry out fireworks sales only through temporary sheds, installed by the government in playgrounds and retailers were not allowed to sell them in private places. In addition, restrictions on maintaining the stock, high rate of Sales Tax and other stringent rules, imposed by the government, prevented the traders from carrying out their cracker business in a big level there. According to revenue department sources, the wholesale depots in Hosur region almost doubled to 197 outlets this season when compared to about 100 in the last year. The sales also increased to Rs 200 crore this year from around Rs 100 crore in 2006, S Venugopal, Proprietor of Ganesh Annamalai Cracker depot said. Starting from the state border at Zoozuvadi village, the cracker shops were lined up through Hosur till Perandapalli village on National Highway- 7. Unlike in the past, many wholesale merchants set up depots in Bagalur town too, 15 km away from Hosur and located. S Krishnan, another fireworks wholesaler in Hosur, said around one lakh people from Bangalore purchased crackers from Hosur this season. Apart from Bangalore, customers from other Karnataka towns like Ramanagaram, KGF, Malur, Anekkal, Tumkur, Jigini and Kolar also made their purchases from Hosur, traders said. In 2006, cracker depots in Hosur had witnessed dull sales due to the heavy rains that lashed the area continuously for five days during the Deepavali season. But this time the cracker wholesale depots witnessed bumper sales as there were not much rains. http://www.newindpress.com/NewsItems.asp?ID=IET20071112034932&Page=T&Headline=Hosur+emerges+as+%91Little+Sivakasi%92&Title=Southern+News+-+Tamil+Nadu&Topic=0 rajandgr8 November 16th, 2007, 01:56 PM http://hosuronline.com/image/hosurcitymap.jpg rajandgr8 November 16th, 2007, 02:47 PM http://www.batchmates.com/photos/rcenterphotos/homepagephoto/hmimg2438.jpg rajandgr8 November 20th, 2007, 07:26 AM TN expects $3bn investment in auto sector BS Reporter / Bangalore October 30, 2007 Tamil Nadu is likely to further consolidate its position in the automobile industry with the state government likely to sign MoUs with two car companies for their expansion in the next two weeks. According to a senior official in the department of industries, the government of Tamil Nadu has approved three more proposals involving a cumulative investment of $1.6 billion. "Two automobile companies are setting up brownfield projects, while one company is setting up a greenfield project in the state. We have prepared the MoU documents, and the Chief Minister is likely to sign them in the next two weeks," M Velmurugan, director, Guidance Bureau, Industries Department, Tamil Nadu, said. He said the state is expected to get an investment of $3 billion in the automobile sector during the next couple of years. Tamil Nadu already has 15 auto and auto related companies. The state is also stepping up its efforts to boost the IT industry. C Umashankar, managing director, Electronic Corporation of Tamil Nadu, said the government is expected to get an investment in the range of Rs 20,000 crore by various IT and electronics companies in the next two years. The government is setting up a new IT park spread over 192 acres at Hosur near Bangalore, which is expected to get an investment of Rs 2,000 crore, he said. "The government is working in a big way towards IT-SEZs in the state. About 2,340 acres of government across the state has been taken over and earmarked for development of IT industries," he said. The state is aiming at a growth of 50% in software exports during the current financial year. Last fiscal, the state exported $5.1 billion worth of software. Most of the big software companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Satyam are expanding their presence in the state, he added. rajandgr8 November 20th, 2007, 02:54 PM http://www.madhucongranites.com/factories.jpg rajandgr8 November 20th, 2007, 03:12 PM Hosur an IT hot spot? Hosur is a mere 23 km away from Electronic City, Bangalore's IT hub, and the Tamil Nadu government wants to make the industrial township a giant satellite town like Gurgaon or Noida. The Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu (ELCOT) has already commenced the leveling work and formation of the IT SEZ park at Hosur in 190 acres the largest in Tamilnadu. And GMR Infrastructure is planning to setup a 2600 acres of IT AND ITES and MULTIPRODUCT SEZ one of the largest in South India. The Govt. is likely to stop the TAX holiday after 2009 in India. Therefore, It will attract all the IT cos., from all over india to set up their new projects inside this Hosur SEZ, as they will get another 10 years of TAX holiday benefit. Already about 20,000 people working in Electronic city are located in Hosur. They travel daily by Pool Vehicles, Staff bus from Wipro and Mini cabs from IT co's. Hosur, he says, has been chosen as it can dovetail the strengths of Bangalore's deep talent pool and salubrious climate with Tamil Nadu's infrastructural forte and relatively inexpensive real-estate rates. Making Hosur an IT hub, however, will be a tough task. In 2003-04, when Tamil Nadu exported Rs 7,643 crore (Rs 76.43 billion) worth of software, Hosur's contribution was zilch. Tamil Nadu is keen on changing this. "We will consider building a 250,000 sq ft facility, on the lines of TIDEL Park in Chennai, at a cost of between Rs 35 crore (Rs 350 million) and Rs 50 crore (Rs 500 million). This initiative, has created a light-house effect and boost investor confidence," Harinarain says. He says the Tamil Nadu government is likely to use a private-public partnership to upgrade Hosur's present infrastructure, including schools, hospitals and shopping malls, to build Hosur into a viable satellite town. rajandgr8 November 22nd, 2007, 01:13 PM A sprawling five-acre property, the luxury-cum-business hotel is part of the U.S.P Group of Companies. Carved out of the once naxal-infested Dharmapuri district, Krishnagiri has been witnessing an exodus of youth in search of employment. But with this pilot project by the district administration to provide means of livelihood locally, there are hopes of more such job-oriented development schemes in the district. A year ago, the district administration attempted to take advantage of information technology-enabled services for the rural youth, whose minimum qualification was a pass in the X Standard. Making use of the available resources of the District Rural Development Agency, the country’s first rural business process outsourcing unit-cum-call centre was started in the village. And, it has lit up the lives of many youngsters who got their salary through AXIS Bank debit cards. According to Collector Santhosh Babu, 37 employees of FoSTERA (Fostering Technologies in Rural Areas) comprising team leaders, team agents and proofreaders, received their first salary on Saturday from the U.S.-based All State Insurance (ASI), a NASDAQ-listed company. LEOsoft Technologies, Bangalore, is another client. While team leaders and proofreaders are paid a salary of Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 7,000 a month respectively, team agents get Rs.3,500 to Rs.5,000 depending on their accuracy level. The good news for non-graduates is that their entry-level salary is on a par with that of graduates. Those who have passed only X standard and Plus-Two are trained in basic computer, English grammar, accent and communication and soft skills for personality development. FoSTERA has signed a memorandum of understanding with ASI for three years. The salaries come from the U.S. to Hosur via Singapore through AXIS Bank. The debit card covers health insurance and the payment will be credited in the bank on the 10th of every month. FoSTERA has also tied up with Electronic Data Systems, U.S., for supply chain management. The district administration has decided to operate similar BPOs in Denkanikottai, Uthangarai and M.C. Palli. The innovative exercise is expected to go a long way in motivating unemployed youths to pursue education. The Collector is optimistic that the unit will set the trend for BPOs in rural areas. http://www.hindu.com/2007/12/03/stories/2007120358390100.htm rajandgr8 December 6th, 2007, 08:32 AM http://static.flickr.com/73/161645034_c1a394194a.jpg rajandgr8 December 6th, 2007, 09:05 AM Hosur City in the Wonder at Night http://farm1.static.flickr.com/179/444729548_5c6ac7f8c3.jpg The entrance to the Chandrachoodeshwar Temple http://farm1.static.flickr.com/169/444720523_65afe9cf0b.jpg Hosur at Night http://farm1.static.flickr.com/178/444729544_d72203e87e.jpg Hosur at Night http://farm1.static.flickr.com/240/444708796_bf0be3a1de.jpg rajandgr8 December 6th, 2007, 09:24 AM http://bp2.blogger.com/_1Iyjn4TXEHA/Rgf-IbaYyYI/AAAAAAAAAFM/ctZSbWfRKvo/s1600-h/DSCN2565.JPG http://bp0.blogger.com/_1Iyjn4TXEHA/Rgf-I7aYyaI/AAAAAAAAAFc/bl-HG7GQFa8/s1600-h/DSCN2579.JPG http://bp1.blogger.com/_1Iyjn4TXEHA/Rgf-JLaYybI/AAAAAAAAAFk/AMyU5gfq-ao/s1600-h/DSCN2596.JPG http://bp3.blogger.com/_1Iyjn4TXEHA/Rgf-IraYyZI/AAAAAAAAAFU/MwmO-0ZnOWU/s1600-h/DSCN2578.JPG http://bp1.blogger.com/_1Iyjn4TXEHA/Rgf-JLaYybI/AAAAAAAAAFk/AMyU5gfq-ao/s1600-h/DSCN2596.JPG rajandgr8 December 6th, 2007, 09:32 AM http://www.hosurrealty.com/resources/_wsb_455x297_Hosur+Dam.jpg rajandgr8 December 6th, 2007, 09:42 AM http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2092/1549296105_3f5ecb1cfe.jpg rajandgr8 December 26th, 2007, 12:20 PM KOLKATA: Kansai Nerolac is reorienting its decorative paints strategy to leverage the recent boom in the housing sector. The company has just acquired over 50 acres at Hosur to set up a greenfield water-based emulsion paints unit at a capital outlay of Rs 67 crore. The company is likely to start construction in February 2008. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/News/News_By_Industry/Cons_Products/Kansai_Nerolac_plans_to_cash_in_on_housing_boom/articleshow/2642367.cms rajandgr8 January 1st, 2008, 03:18 PM It is integration time at the Indian abrasives major Carborundum Universal Limited (Cumi) which acquired and set up plants in Russia, India and China. The last two years saw the Rs526 crore turnover Cumi going on shopping and expansion binge within and without India. In September this year, the company acquired $54 million turnover Volzhsky Abrasive Works (VAW), Russia. Cumi acquired a 96 per cent stake in VAW for $37 million through its special purpose vehicle Cumi International Limited, Cyprus. An open offer to acquire the balance from other shareholders is on and would close on 23.1.2008. In August, Cumi acquired the Rs12 crore revenue industrial ceramics division of IVP Limited at Aurangabad, Maharashtra for around Rs6.25 crore on a slump sale basis. In China, the Indian company's joint venture company Jingri Cumi Super Hard Materials Company Limited has started commercial operations of its new 3,000 tpa bonded abrasives plant. The fag end of 2006 saw Cumi buying two units in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh for Rs3.2 crore. While one unit manufactures monolithic refractories, the second is engaged in the manufacture of high quality refractory cement, an input for the former. The acquisition provided Cumi an additional monolithic manufacturing capacity of 12,000 tonne per annum (tpa) catering to markets in Central India. According to company officials, these are exciting times as they are in the process of integrating the new acquisitions in their supply chain dynamics and chalking out which plant would supply where. In order to interact with the two companies located in the non-English speaking countries of Russia and China, Cumi has hired three Russian and one Chinese translator to facilitate communication. This apart, top Cumi officials have started learning Russian and Chinese languages. VAW-It is wow Like a newly married couple, Cumi and VAW are excited and are eagerly exploring and evaluating different integration possibilities. The Russian company is the world's second largest silicon carbide manufacturer with capacity of 65,000 tpa. The first is Saint Gobain, said to have a capacity of around 1.1 lakh tpa globally. According to Cumi officials, the Russian acquisition has come at the right time when globally there is a capacity shortage in the grains segment. ''We can now become a global player in the micro grains segment,'' said one official. Western countries discourage new plants in this field. Plants in Europe are closing down and even China that contributes 50 per cent of the alumina grains is tightening its environmental laws. Hence no major new investment has taken place in this segment. According to Cumi officials, alumina grains are short in supply and the prices have gone up by 35 per cent recently. Cumi's alumina grains needs are around 12,000 tpa and it sources majority of that from China with long term deals. VAW also makes bonded abrasives (capacity 35,000 tpa) and specialised refractories (3000tpa) similar to what Cumi has in India. According to Cumi officials, the Russian company sells around 9000 tpa of bonded abrasives and there is a good scope to increase the capacity. Interestingly nearly 52 per cent of VAW's workforce is women. For Cumi, the immediate focus is to improve efficiencies and fitting VAW in with its global supply chain. The Indian company is handling its first overseas acquisition with utmost care. Finding the existing VAW management capable of handling the Russian end, Cumi didn't disturb the set up there. Nor did Cumi post its official there to oversee. According to Cumi officials the operational integration between Cumi and VAW is happening SBU wise. Presently different teams - production, marketing and technology - from Cumi are meeting their Russian counterparts. While the Indian team imparts production efficiency techniques in Russia, they also learn the way huge capacities are handled with minimum work force. The results have already started showing. During the first nine months of operations VAW has posted a turnover of $50 million. For the whole year the company is expected to have a turnover of $60 million. Additional investments in Russia will happen only after consolidating the existing operations and scaling up of capacity utilisation. In the abrasives segment, Cumi now has a total capacity of around 50,000 tpa (VAW 35,000 tpa, new bonded abrasives plant in China 3,000 tpa and Cumi's own in India 12,000 tpa). The new Chinese plant which makes resinoid products, will also make vitrified products soon. As per indications, the Chinese plant will cater to the Middle East market. Similarly in the refractories segment Cumi will align its Indian operations with that of VAW. Cumi is also expanding its domestic refractories capacity with a new 3000 tpa plant at Ranipet in Tamil Nadu, at an outlay of Rs25 crore. Land to the extent of 18 acres has been acquired for the purpose, and the plant is expected to start operations in June 2008. The company is also setting up a Rs37 crore metallised cylinder plant at Hosur, which is expected to go on stream next year. Recently Cumi's major projects like expansion of industrial ceramics capacity at its Hosur plant to 6,000 tpa, bonded abrasives plant at Uttarakhand with a capacity of 3,000 tpa and the power tools plant at Bangalore went on stream. According to officials, the full benefits of these investments will accrue from next fiscal onwards, when all its new plants stabilise operations and reach better capacity utilisation. For Cumi the third quarter results will be sober. The bottomline growth may not be commensurate with growth in the topline, on account of higher depreciation and interest costs starting to kick in. The company has raised $5 million from external commercial borrowing to meet the acquisitions and other investments. Cushioning the interest burden is the revenue of Rs57 crore from the sale of land in Chennai, which was used for settling some bank loans. The company is also seriously looking at disinvesting some of its non-core investments and also synergising operations of its subsidiaries. Meanwhile the officials expect the consolidated turnover to for this fiscal to be in the region of Rs1000 crore. http://www.domain-b.com/companies/companies_c/Carborundum_Universal/20071229_cumi_on_integration.html Step January 3rd, 2008, 09:21 PM TN Govt should propose a new airport in Hosur ASAP. Further, the SIPCOT has identified more than 10,000 acres of land to set up the ‘Land Bank’ mentioned by Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in the New Industrial Policy 2007. Several international and local promoters are already queuing up before government agencies seeking land to set up their ventures in and around Chennai. The Chief Minister had proposed setting up of the ICE during the last week of October 2007 to boost the State economy. Talking to The Hindu, SIPCOT Chairman and Managing Director N. Govindan said, “We have moved in swiftly and have identified the land required for setting up of industrial township, industrial complexes, sub stations, logistics and airport. Further, we have floated a tender for choosing a consultant for the project. The consultant will be selected during the third week of January 2008 and will be given two months’ time to submit the feasibility study. In all probability, it will be ready by April 2008.” As per the proposal, the industrial complexes are likely to come up in Panapakkam (Walaja), Iyepedu (Arakkonam), Ranipet, Vellore, Kethandipatti (Jolarpet) and Sulagiri (Krishnagiri). The SIPCOT has three industrial complexes at Ranipet. The third unit – Leather SEZ – would be commissioned shortly, while the fourth unit would take some more time. “In Sulagiri, we have already identified 5,000 acres of land and in Panapakkam and Iyepadu around 2,500 acres and 2,000 acres respectively. In Kethandipatti and Ranipet, we have identified 1,000 acres each. In fact, the State Government had given us five years to set up the Land Bank. But, we might be achieving it in the first year itself. These are all dry lands and we are waiting for administrative sanction,” Mr. Govindan said. However, the consultant would state how much it would cost, where to house the industrial complexes, townships, sub stations and logistics. The ICE was being developed in two phases. The first phase runs from Chennai to Ranipet and the second phase from Ranipet to Hosur. http://www.hindu.com/2007/12/29/stories/2007122950080100.htm Step January 11th, 2008, 04:33 PM Russia-based Kamaz to set up truck assembly plant in TN Friday January 11 2008 17:15 IST PTI Shaadi.com Matrimonial - Register for FREE MOSCOW: One of the Russia's largest truck maker, Kamaz incorporated, is eyeing a joint venture with its Indian partner, Tatra Vectra, to expand into the region. The agreement, to set up a truck assembly plant in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, could be signed on the sidelines of Indo-Russian business summit during Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov's New Delhi visit next month. "If our plans are implemented, this will be Kamaz's largest assembly enterprise outside Russia," the company's Asia-Pacific director, Denis Trifonov was quoted as saying by Ria Novosti. Kamaz would hold a controlling stake in the proposed JV and organise a complete knocked down (CKD) assembly of Russian trucks in Hosur in Tamil Nadu, he said. Kamaz already has assembly plants in Iran, Pakistan, Vietnam and former Soviet Republics of Ukraine and Kazakhstan. According to Trifonov, 10 per cent of locally produced components would be used in the first stage, with their share to be raised to 30-40 per cent in two-three years. Kamaz's India facility would sell the trucks not only within the country but also export them to Bangladesh, Myanmar, Sri Lanka and possibly Malaysia. A month ahead of February 14, orders are pouring in from around the world for roses grown in southern India's floral corridor that spreads from Hosur in northwestern Tamil Nadu to neighbouring Bangalore. Nearly 50-odd farms, growing roses on hundred of acres of land between Hosur and Bangalore, are besieged with orders from as far as Europe, Australia and Japan. "We have recently received orders for one million roses from Australia for Valentine's Day. Besides, there are heavy bookings from European countries," Najeeb Ahmed, managing director of Tanflora Infrastructure Park Ltd, told IANS. Spread over 50 hectares of land in Amudagondapalli village near Hosur town, Tanflora is Asia's largest rose production centre, growing a whopping 37.5 million roses every year. Promoted by the Tamil Nadu government, Tanflora is one of the pioneering cooperative rose farming ventures in India, in which 25 floriculturists grow roses in green houses set up on two hectares of land each. A one-hectare farm can grow as many as 70,000 rose plants. And each plant gives at least 20 to 22 flowers every year in ideal "glass house" conditions. The demand on Valentine' Day is for mainly bright red roses. However the Japanese seem to prefer pastilles and pick pink roses while hot pink, yellow and orange roses from here find buyers at major flower auction centres in Holland and Germany. The global flower industry is dominated by Holland, accounting for nearly 50 per cent of the market share. But India, with its comparatively cheaper priced flowers, is slowly asserting its presence. Indian roses cost anything from Rs 8 (US 20 cents) per rose to Rs 40 ($1). The longer the stem of the rose, the costlier it gets. A 40 cm rose is priced at less than Rs 10 while one-metre roses fetch up to Rs 40 apiece. "For Valentine's Day, our roses are already sold out," says R D Reddy of Meghna Floritech Ltd, which has a six-hectare farm on the Kunegal road near Bangalore. A former chief conservator of forests of Andhra Pradesh, Reddy, who took to floriculture after retirement, adds: "There is at least a 30 per cent increase in rose exports for Valentine's Day." Rose plants require a land elevation of 900 to 1,000 metres above sea level and therefore Hosur-Bangalore floral corridor and Pune - another major cut flower producing region - are suitable for rose production. http://sify.com/news/fullstory.php?id=14588906 doccbe January 15th, 2008, 11:29 PM http://www.chennaionline.com/colnews/newsitem.asp?NEWSID=%7BAD52ADAC-B5E6-4735-99F5-F16D97198A89%7D&CATEGORYNAME=CHN Chennai,Jan. 12 Dr Agarwal's Eye Hospital, one of the leading eyecare providers, is planning to have 100 eye hopsitals across the country by the end of 2010-11 fiscal. Sunny78 April 27th, 2008, 12:57 AM Flower auction centre plan for Hosur Hosur: An international flower auction centre is likely to come up in this major hub of floriculture. The town now handles more than 35 per cent of the cut flowers traded in the country. Roses are cultivated on about 500 ha in the region. The region has more than 20 hi-tech floriculture units spread over 120 ha. The plan is for an auction centre on the lines of the International Flower Auction Centre (IFAB) in Bangalore. IFAB gets a major chunk of the flowers handled by it from the Hosur region. The establishment of an auction centre here has the potential to reduce transportation costs and provide direct marketing support for small and marginal farmers from the region. It is meant to have facilities for cold storage and packing, for both buyers and growers. A state-of-the-art electronic auction system and facilities for online bidding for cut flowers are envisaged. Informed sources said that two hectares of land had been identified for the purpose near Hosur. The financial and operational viability of the project were being worked out. Tanflora, a joint venture between the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) and private promoters, is the country’s first Agri Export Zone (AEZ) for cut roses and one of the largest such facilities. The district administration has decided to involve youngsters and small retailers to set up model nurseries in clusters under the National Horticulture Mission. The State already has four such clusters at Thally, Kelamangalam and Berigai. Tanflora has established infrastructural facilities for small and marginal farmers in and around the park. It will help small farmers and private entrepreneurs to put up polygreen houses, in selecting varieties and in marketing. The sources said Hosur’s potential in the floriculture industry remains largely untapped. http://www.hindu.com/2008/04/27/stories/2008042750320100.htm senthil2001msk May 23rd, 2008, 07:30 AM Plants to come up in Gujarat, TN Hyderabad, May 21 Areva T&D, part of the global French energy major Areva, will operationalise three ‘greenfield’ manufacturing units in India, between December 5 and 7, and hire over 1,200 this year. Rasnaboy July 7th, 2008, 04:30 AM Hosur: Finally there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel for the decade-old Hosur-Jolarpet rail link project. The district headquarters has no rail connectivity barring the network of national highways connecting Bangalore and other major cities. The present rail link in the district traverses through Rayakottai and Hosur to reach Bangalore. To board a train the residents have to travel to Jolarpet junction. Realising its importance, a satellite survey was undertaken in 1998 on providing a rail link between Jolarpet and Hosur and approval was also given for the project. The total cost of the project then worked out to Rs.147 crore. But, when the Union Government was dissolved that year, the project was also shelved. “The decision of the Railways Ministry has revived the hopes of the people of this district on the project,” says former MP Narasimhan. Source: http://www.hindu.com/2008/07/07/stories/2008070750010100.htm senthil2001msk September 8th, 2008, 04:26 AM TEREX Pegson & Powerscreen to open manufacturing facility in India http://www.hub-4.com/images/news/1310.jpg Terex Pegson & Powerscreen are opening a manufacturing plant in Hosur, India, which is located 75km from Bangalore near Chennai. Terex Pegson & Powerscreen engineers are now at work setting up the processes and procedures for the new Indian plant, but over time manufacturing processes instituted there could well be adopted in Coalville and Dungannon, thus aiding the company's commitment to continuous improvement and enhanced global competitiveness. Terex Pegson & Powerscreen recently hosted Terex Division President, Eric Nielsen on his first visit to the Coalville and Dungannon manufacturing facilities. Eric congratulated staff on the continued growth of the companies and the passion and commitment to succeed shown by all. "The staff at Terex Pegson and Powerscreen are passionate about their business and this comes through in the quality of their manufacturing facilities and of course in the success of the business as a whole," praised Eric Nielsen. "By having a truly geographical distribution, an effective R&D programme which launches the products the industry needs, Terex Pegson and Powerscreen will continue to succeed. This of course takes a great deal of hard work and I am confident they can deliver and grow." Six Zero October 5th, 2008, 01:58 PM Comments welcome. Rasnaboy October 23rd, 2008, 02:22 PM Juggat Pharma, a company of Bangalore-based Rs 70-crore Jagdale Industries, is looking at expanding its electrolyte business in the coming years. Juggat, with a turnover of Rs 50 crore, derives around Rs 12 crore from the oral rehydration salt (ORS) vertical, which has grown to this level from Rs 1 crore in 2004, when it introduced this in ready-to-drink form, under the brand name ORS-L. Taking this success forward, Juggat has set up a new packaging unit at Hosur in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 12 crore. This plant has a capacity of 3.5 lakh cases of 27 tetra packs per month. This new unit is coming after Juggat Pharma earlier closed down its packaging unit in Mysore owing to space and logistic constrains. About 70 per cent of this would be dedicated to ORS-L, and the remaining for Jagdale Industries’ other packaged fruit and nutritional beverages including its flagship brand Bejois. Apart from pharmaceuticals and fruit drink, Jagdale Industries also has interests in farms and plantation sector. Jagdale Farms in Hosur, sprawling across 200 acres grows mangoes and coconut. The company has plantations in Coorg, growing coffee, pepper and cardamom. Its ‘Bejois’ brand of canned fruit products is exported to many countries. Juggat Pharma is among the earliest players in India who started offering natural fruit juice based electrolyte energy drink, said Rajesh Jagdale, joint managing director, Jagdale Industries. Branded prescription ORS powder market is worth Rs 80 crore in India, in which FDC Ltd’s Electrol brand has a major share. Prescription ORS drink is a new market worth Rs 17 crore, of which Juggat Pharma occupies about 70 per cent. FDC, Merck and Mankind Pharma are the other players in this market. “Consumers favour electrolyte in drink form because it is easy to consume and provides instant energy. Demand for this is growing fast and within five years we aim to be Rs 75-crore player in this market,” said Jagdale. Speaking on the other business lines, he said that Juggat Pharma recently closed down its bulk drug unit, the Associated Drug Company. “Bulk drugs no longer remain a profitable proposition for us given the stiff competition from markets like China,” pointed out Jagdale. With this, the firm wants to focus on branded formulations, continuing its specialisation in gynaecology and pediatric segments. About 51 formulations of the company including tablets, syrups, capsules, injections and granules are on active promotion in India. While 95 per cent of its products are sold in India, the remaining is exported to European countries. The company is entering the Brazilian market with its patented brand BotroClot. It is a topical solution to instantly arrest nasal bleeding and wound bleeding, effective especially for people with diabetes. Juggat Pharma claims to be the only manufacturer of this haemocoagulant in India and is one of the few manufacturers in the world. “It is a niche market. We estimate this to be Rs 25-crore market in Brazil and plan to sell about Rs 4-5 crore in the first year,” he added. This will augment maximum water storage and, in turn, will provide water to dry areas for farming activities, said the Adhyaman Group of Institutions chairman M. Thambidurai. The survey report will be submitted to the government, he told The Hindu. He said more check dams were necessary to prevent excess river water flowing into the sea during floods. The aim of the survey was to divert excess water from water rich areas to water starved areas in the district. This will help poor farmers cultivate at least one crop in a year. He said small check dams were constructed on Markendeya River at Marasandhiram by the British. A canal constructed by the previous government at a cost of Rs. 7 crores and another by this government at a cost of Rs. 6 crores have not yielded any result. Water from the river water did not flow to the Bade Thalav Lake (Big Lake) and to dry areas of Bargur and Mathur. If this lake gets filled with water, it will help irrigate about 4,000 acres. With the help of the local residents, the college will survey the pollution in South Pennar from Bangalore to Cuddalore. The team from civil and chemical engineering departments will conduct the survey. with the cooperation of authorities in the pollution control board. The modern crematorium has a rest shed, a place for performing the last rites and an office room. The surroundings have been titivated with a flower garden. In the modern gasifier crematorium, 8 to 10 bodies can be cremated a day, said Raja. To cremate one body, 25 to 40 kilograms of firewood is needed and it would take at least 45 minutes to complete the combustion of the bodies. He points out the inherent advantages in this system. The furnace can be maintained at temperatures over 1,000 degrees celsius which is required for the complete combustion of bodies. ‘We have inspected similar gasifier crematoriums in other districts prior to this project,’ Raja added. The colonies are situated on the Thali-Hudco road adjoining the railway track. In the absence of town bus facility, a lone mini bus which operates in the area was stopped service all of a sudden two months ago. C. Balasubramaniyam, secretary of the New ASTC VOC Nagar Residents Welfare Association, said that when they approached the mini bus owner, they were told that the bus was being plied according to the permit issued by the RTO to the original owner. “There is no word to explain our sufferings. Around 2,000 families are living in these colonies. Even for emergency medical care, we have to depend on autorickshaws. Auto drivers fleece the gullible public due to which middle aged men and women have to walk up to the Central Excise Office and from their go by city bus. School children and senior citizens are affected very much,” he added. “Our pleas to the district administration and transport authorities to operate town buses between TVS and Hosur and divert all the buses plying in Hosur to Thali and Denkanikottai have fallen on deaf ears.”Added to the woes are robberies by anti-social elements near the railway level crossings and the mud road that leads to the colonies late in the evenings. As there is no street light, women couldn’t walk alone in this road after 6 p.m., he added. Sathyamurthy, vice-president of the Federation of Residents’ Welfare Associations said, “a decade ago, a town bus Route No. 53 was introduced and it operated only for a week and it was suddenly stopped by the transport corporation without any prior notice. We approached the transport authorities several times, but it did not yield any fruitful result.” V. Gnanasekaran, treasurer, Hosur Small Industries and Tiny Industries Association, urged the government to allow share autos in the industrial town. He said it would help thousands of employees working in small and medium scale industries and workers of the unorganised sectors to reach their work places in time at affordable cost. In the absence of affordable public transport facilities, the transport authorities can take necessary steps to allow share autos to operate in these colonies and the entire Hosur town. If the momentum continues the collection at the end of this financial year would be Rs. 23,500 crore. Officials should put extra effort to reach the targeted figure of Rs. 24,500 crore. The tax collection during the last financial year (2008-09) was Rs. 22,570 crore. The Minister sought the cooperation of big establishments to pay taxes promptly to serve the public effectively, though the government reduced the tax for several items at the instance of the Chief Minister Karunanidhi, tax evasion continues. “We are trying to plug loopholes to collect the revenue through various measures.” Commercial Taxes Offices in Salem would get a building very soon at a cost of Rs.10 crore. Land has been identified and handed over to the department. The fund for the construction of the building was sanctioned by the government, Mr. Ubaidulla said. Later, Ubaidullah distributed Rs. 2.41 crore revolving fund to 234 self-help groups. Each group was given Rs. 60,000 that included a subsidy component of Rs. 10,000. Earlier, Rajiv Ranjan, secretary, Commercial Taxes and Registration, said 241 Commercial Tax Offices in the state were functioning in rented buildings. This may probably be the oldest un-implemented road project in Tamil Nadu and yet another sample to prove how government funds are wasted by project delays. Hosur’s 100-ft Inner Ring Road was proposed 23 years ago, but the government is yet to complete the work, resulting in costs escalating by an unbelievable 650 per cent to Rs 6 crore from the original Rs 79.20 lakh. The Tamil Nadu government had proposed to build a ring road around Hosur to avoid vehicles from Bangalore entering Hosur town. About 40,000 heavy and light commercial vehicles from North India bound for various parts of Tamil Nadu go via Hosur every day from Bangalore. Initially, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had taken up the project, the cost of which was estimated at Rs 79.20 lakh in 1986-87. But the NHAI did not start the work immediately that led the government to more than double the cost to Rs 194.32 lakh as per a revised estimation in 1993. Then the project was awarded to a contractor through tender and work started in 1996. But the NHAI discontinued the work after building a mud road and a few bridges. The work was stalled due to delay in acquiring land from the Railway Board and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. Meanwhile, due to escalating cost of construction material, the contractor withdrew from the project. It was handed over to the State Highways department later. When contacted, Krishnagiri Collector V K Shanmugam told Express that the government revised the estimation once again in 2000, putting the project cost at Rs 5.62 crore. He said the government has sanctioned Rs 6 crore to carry out pending work on the inner ring road. Subra November 22nd, 2009, 09:09 PM http://www.dnaindia.com/money/report_gmr-s-sez-in-tamil-nadu-delayed_1315198 Mumbai: GMR Infrastructure's 3,300-acre special economic zone (SEZ) in Tamil Nadu will be delayed owing to lacklustre demand from IT and IT-enabled services (ITES) companies. The company had in August 2007 signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (Tidco) to set up a multi-product SEZ in Krishnagiri, which is 70 km from Bangalore and is connected to National Highway (NH)-7 that runs between Chennai and Bangalore. The project was supposed to go on-stream in 2009 and be fully occupied by 2012. But that is not to be. Construction is yet to begin. Gopalakrishna Kishore, chief operating officer, GMR Krishnagiri SEZ, said only 1,500 acre have been acquired so far. "The first phase of the project will begin construction in 2010-2011," he said in response to DNA's e-mail queries. He, however, refused to say when the SEZ would be operational. A Subbarao, chief financial officer, GMR group, had earlier said the demand scenario was not very encouraging. "So we are restructuring the whole thing. We had planned the SEZ keeping in mind the demand from IT and ITES firms, but now we are looking at companies that make solar photovoltaics," he told DNA. Asked what other kinds of firms GMR was targeting, Subbarao said the plan was not finalised yet. At the time of the signing of the MoU, GMR said companies in electronics, engineering, IT, ITES, biotechnology and nanotechnology would take up space in the SEZ. Kishore did not divulge the cost of the overall project or how much GMR had already spent on it. The company had said in 2007 that the SEZ would entail an initial investment of Rs 2,300 crore. He also did not reveal if any companies had shown interest in setting up shop at the SEZ, which is tipped to have the potential to generate annual exports of Rs 16,000 crore. GMR is currently setting up another SEZ, a 250-acre aerospace park near the Hyderabad airport it is developing through GMR Hyderabad International Airport (GHIAL). It also plans to set up a logistics park there. satishanu December 15th, 2009, 08:34 PM ^Looks like some promotion has started and website launched. The company, which started export of its three-wheelers a couple of months back, is also exploring to venture into new markets like Bangladesh, Mexico, Peru and Guatemala. "Our next plan is to enter the diesel passenger market in the auto-rickshaw category of three-wheelers and we should be able to accomplish this within the next 18-24 months," TVS Motor Company President (Marketing) H S Goindi told reporters here. He said the company already has a presence in 2-stroke and 4-stroke engine segments in petrol, LPG and CNG variants. The diesel three-wheeler will target the semi-urban and rural markets, he said without disclosing further details. TVS Motor today launched its new 200 cc, 4-stroke engine CNG auto rickshaw -'TVS King ZS' - priced at Rs 1.24 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Speaking about the company's exports, TVS Motor Vice- President (Sales & Service) 3-wheeler K Srinivasan said: "We have just started export to selected countries like Sri Lanka, Ethiopia and Egypt and our aim is to sell at least 10,000 units in the overseas markets next fiscal." It expects to end this fiscal with domestic sales of 18,000-20,000 units of three-wheelers and hopes to take it to 30,000 units in FY 2011, he added. "Currently 60 per cent of our sales is in the 2-Stroke category but we expect the ratio between it and 4-stroke engines to be 50:50 by the next fiscal. This will be on account of new regulations by state governments," Srinivasan said. TVS three-wheeler facility at Hosur has an installed capacity of one lakh units annually and Srinivasan said it is looking at increasing the capacity utilisation of the plant. "We are currently running at 20 per cent of the total installed capacity and we will now take it up to 40 per cent by the next fiscal," he said. TVS Motor is also planning to increase its dealership network in the three-wheeler segment to 110 outlets by March 2010, from 70 at present, Srinivasan added. Asked if TVS plans to enter the cargo carrier category where four-wheeler players have a dominant role, Goindi said there were no such plans. But today, it's a business destination in its own right and that's eminently reflected in the spiraling real estate costs. There are several reasons for Hosur becoming as a prime residential destination for the people working in Bangalore, primarily South Bangalore. Electronic city, an IT industrial park set up by the Karnataka government in Bangalore city is a stone's throw away from Hosur, which is located on the border of Tamil Nadu but only 40-km away from the centre of Bangalore city. The Electronic city, where India's IT majors Infosys, Wipro and more than 1,000 tech companies have their units, is just a half an hour drive from Hosur. To be precise, Hosur is just 10 km away from the outskirts of Bangalore. Hence, people who cannot afford skyrocketing real estate prices in Bangalore have started looking at nearby Hosur. The land prices in Hosur also have increased by three to four times in the past five years but it is still cheaper when compared to Bangalore, said J Manjunath of Sivadarsh Exporters, who like many others lives in Hosur but carries out multiple business activities in Bangalore. Hosur today is connected by an expressway to Bangalore on the one side and Chennai and Salem, major cities in Tamil Nadu, on the other side. The Bangalore International Airport is one and a half hour drive from Hosur. Most importantly, Hosur, which is located at 2,920 feet above the see level, has a salubrious climatic condition around the year much like Bangalore. The town also has broad-gauge rail connectivity to major cities like Bangalore and Mumbai. Moreover Hosur itself is an industrial town housing more than 1,500 large and medium scale industries including Ashok Leyland, TVS Motors, Titan, Taneja Aeronautics, Asia Tobacco, Hindustan Motors and heavy vehicle manufacturers like Tatra Udyog and Kamaz Vectra. Tamil Nadu government has already established two industrial estates in Hosur, where State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) has set up its first industrial estate 35 years ago. Now in a bid to woo IT investors across the country, Bangalore in particular, the Tamil Nadu government through Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (ELCOT), has proposed to set up an IT park covering 200 acres in Hosur. With a majority of IT companies in Bangalore worried over inadequate infrastructure facility in the 'Garden City', they would choose Hosur for their future expansions, an ELCOT official said. Already the ELCOT has conducted couple of road shows in Bangalore to woo IT investments to Tamil Nadu, particularly to proposed IT Park in Hosur. In addition, the government is also in the process of setting up a massive multi-purpose special economic zone (SEZ) covering around 2,600 acres in Hosur region. Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (TIDCO), a Tamil Nadu government enterprise, has chosen Bangalore-based GMR Infrastructure as its joint venture partner to promote the SEZ in Hosur. According to TIDCO, the SEZ would be set up at a cost of Rs 2,600 crore. Once the SEZ and IT park projects were completed, it is expected that thousands of new job opportunities would be created in the town and that would lead to huge demand for commercial and residential properties in Hosur. Hence, not surprisingly, real estate majors have started foraying in to Hosur since last two years. “Hosur town is emerging as a promising tier III destination for real estate sector” said Mohammed Ali Vakil, director of Bangalore-based real estate major Vakil Housing Development Corporation (VHDC). To cash in on the opportunity, VHDC has launched a Rs 150 crore residential project covering 330 super luxury villas in Hosur. The villas are in the range of 1,500 sq ft to 2,400 sq ft and priced at Rs 35 lakhs to Rs 60 lakhs, which are much cheaper compared to the villa prices in Bangalore and its outskirts. “Hosur is among a few places in the country where the land prices have not declined even during recession,” he said. He said the land prices in Hosur are expected to double in the next 3-4 years. Following VHDC, some of the major real estate players are looking to purchase lands to promote their projects in Hosur, industry sources said. Already several small and medium-category real estate companies have started promoting their projects in Hosur. More over, the floriculture industry is also supporting the real estate industry in Hosur.... After the expansion, the company's overall capacity will increase to 2.8 lakh tonnes per annum from the current 2 lakh tonnes per annum. The company has already invested Rs 100 crore in the first phase of its Hosur plant, which has already started production from January this year. It has also decided for a 4 per cent increase in the price of its products from May 10. Hosur has a more than three-decade old industrial zone that houses TVS Motors, Ashok Leyland, Titan Industries, Carborandum Universal and Hindustan Lever besides 2,000-odd tiny, small, medium and large-scale industrial units. Realising the potential of Hosur, the Tamil Nadu government has declared it a tier-II IT city. It has announced the setting up of a Tidel Park by ELCOT; a 3,000-acre SEZ for IT, hardware and precision instruments; and allocation of land to Bangalore-based IT companies to establish their campuses at Hosur. Most of these projects are proposed to be developed through private-public partnership. The pace of the unplanned growth of the town necessitated the government to establish the Hosur New Town Development Authority under the chairmanship of the District Collector, ten years ago. .. The company's total investment would be around $ 95 million (around Rs 437 crore) in the new facility. The plant has been under construction since June 2009 and is spread over 170 thousand sqm in Hosur, close to Bangalore. Initially, the plant will produce medium and high voltage motors and generators. In the second phase, other products in the motor and generator line will be added. The facility is expected to create employment for 250 people in the first year, with the possibility of expanding to 600 employees by the end of 2011. Since 2004, WEG has importing motors and generators manufactured in Brazil to the Indian market. Harry Schmelzer Jr., executive president, WEG said "this investment is a big step forward in WEG’s international strategy." The motors and generators produced by WEG will cater to irrigation, water distribution, waste-water treatment systems, power generation and transportation systems, he added. The company said the region was attractive for operations for the qualified workforce, good infrastructure, among others. jayak914 August 19th, 2010, 04:18 PM Kamaz Vectra to double capacity at Hosur plant NEW DELHI: Indo-Russian commercial vehicle joint venture Kamaz Vectra Motors plans to more than double its annual capacity to 12,000 units at its Hosur plant by 2012 to capture a bigger chunk of the fast-growing market in India. At present, the company can assemble up to 5,000 units of heavy duty trucks at the plant per year. The decision to expand capacity was taken last month on the back of rising demand for heavy duty trucks in the domestic market. “We aim to secure 5% of the market share by 2012 as we gradually become competitive in India with high local content of over 90% to compete with other major domestic players,” Denis E Trifonoff, CEO of Kamaz Vectra Motors, said. He said the company is yet to freeze investment plans required for the additional capacity. Last year Russian automaker Kamaz had picked a 51% stake in the JV with diversified Vectra Group that has interest in IT, aviation and construction business. The assembly unit is already rolling out a few products including construction dumpers. At present, it imports components from Kamaz’s manufacturing base in Russia besides sourcing from other component makers for the assembly unit in Hosur. It plans to increase local sourcing from next year. The proposed expansion will allow it to export its right-hand-drive heavy duty trucks and trailers to markets such as Indonesia, Bangladesh and South Africa. Kamaz is banking on rising demand for multi-axle trucks, which offer lower operating cost compared to the traditional single-axle 16 tonner trucks. It plans to introduce medium and heavy-duty trucks, including on-road and off-road applications for cargo applications in the freight market which would also be exported from India. India is the world’s fastest-growing truck market with sales jumping 36% to 2.01 lakh units for the year ended March 31, 2010 on the back of high demand coming from new construction and infrastructure projects. Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has forecast an 11% growth in volume for the fiscal year ending March 2011. satishanu August 26th, 2010, 09:33 PM TVS Motor Co Ltd said on Thursday that it will invest Rs 200 crore by April next year to expand its production capacity at its Hosur facility to 2.8 million units. But small farmerslured to rose cultivation by the government through various sopsare now struggling. There has been no subsequent support from the government post-harvest to enable them export cut roses directly. As a result, majority of the farmers who availed bank loans for their hi-tech cut rose projects could not pay loans and are now facing legal actions from banks. Around 8 million stems of cut roses produced in Hosur in Krishnagiri district are exported to Europe, Japan, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and other South East Asian countries every year. The district accounts for around 30% of the total Rs 500 crore of foreign exchange fetched through cut flower exports from the country. Talking to FE, V Venkatachalam, president of Krishnagiri Horticulture Federation (KHF), said small farmers were forced to sell their produce to middlemen and Bangalore-based exporters due to lack of international linkage. The exporters buy rose from farmers at Rs 2 to Rs 5 per stem but in-turn sell in the international market at up to Rs 10-15 per stem. The flower, immediately after it is picked from the plant, should be placed in cold storage. But there is no cold storage facility in the district, resulting in farmers being compelled to sell the product to middlemen after they pick flowers. "I have taken floriculture as main business after finishing my MSc Biochemistry, but now thinking of shutting it," Venkatachalam added. Around 580 such small farmers in Krishnagiri have started cut flower cultivation in the past three years by availing bank loans. Of them, at least 100 farmers are graduates, post-graduates and even PhDs but all struggling without proper marketing linkage and lack of post-harvesting facilities. These small farmers produce around 1.5 lakh stems of roses per day. National Horticulture Mission (NHM) is providing 50% subsidy to set up a unit of 1,000 square meters of 'poly green house' infrastructure to produce cut roses. Farmers should either raise remaining 50% as bank loan or invest on own. Each unit costs around Rs 6.5 lakh. Almost all farmers have raised bank loans for their stake, but only 20% of them were able to make repayments, said an official attached to a Nationalised Bank requesting anonymity. As a result, now the banks have slowed down offering loans to 'small' floriculture projects. Saminathan at Hosur. Thus, half the dream of the Hosur residents was realised after a 24- year wait. The work on a part of the 5 km South Ring Road up to Thaly Road from Krishnagiri-Bengaluru National Highway began last February. The Rs. 6-crore works were taken up under the Comprehensive Road Infrastructure Development Programme (CRIDP). The original estimate for the formation of the entire stretch of the 8.8 km inner ring road around Hosur town was technically sanctioned for Rs. 79.20 lakh for a 3.75 metre width road during 1986. Then the estimate was revised to Rs. 1.94 crore. Again the estimate was revised and funds were sanctioned on December 11, 2000 for Rs. 5.62-crore. Finally, the estimate was revised at a cost of Rs. 6 crore for 7 metre width with 2.5 metres shoulders on both sides. The project was executed ahead of schedule. The rest of the four km stretch of the Ring Road project connecting the National Highway No. 7 from Thaly road would be taken up during the next financial year at an estimated cost of Rs. 10-crore. The problems in land acquisition were being sorted out, said an official from the State Highways department. Meanwhile, Mr. K. Sampath, president, Hosur Small and Tiny Industries Association urged the state government to take up works on the rest of the South Innner Ring Road immediately to free Hosur town from heavy vehicles traffic. src: http://www.hindu.com/2011/01/29/stories/2011012963540500.htm bonoslack7 February 1st, 2011, 10:57 PM http://www.hindu.com/2011/02/02/stories/2011020251670300.htm The modernised gasifier crematorium constructed at a cost of Rs. 45 lakh in Hosur, near Alasanatham lake, on Bangalore National Highway would be opened by month-end, J. S. Cm. Venkatachalam, Proprietor of Jacpel & Co, engaged in real estate development in Hosur for over a decade, told The Hindu that “this is the right time to invest . Global recession has not affected the realty market ”. As the recession is over, real estate activity has been picking up. Sales of houses (ranging from Rs. 15 to Rs. 20 lakh) has been going up on Bagalur Road, where the Information Technology Park of ELCOT will be established. Mr. Venkatachalam said altogether there were 10 to 15 real estate developers in Hosur, but only three or four new entrants were seriously engaged in realty business. They were from Bangalore and Erode. Real estate market in Avalapalli and Mookandapalli villages, hardly three to four km from the new bus stand in Hosur, is active. Sale of luxury villas ranging from Rs. 35 lakh to Rs. 40 lakh has been picking up slowly. Mr. Venkatachalam said LIC Housing Finance Corporation Limited alone had sanctioned roughly about Rs. 90 crore as housing loan for the first nine months of this fiscal. IT professionals in Bangalore, where apartment and real estate prices have been skyrocketing, are keen on buying property in Hosur. The industrial town has also broad-gauge rail connectivity to major cities such as Bangalore and Mumbai. The organised sector mattress market is led by brands such as Kurl-On, Sleep Well, Century and Duroflex. The company is investing Rs.100 crore in the new facility that will produce 30,000 units of tractors per annum. Arun Surendra, Managing Director, VST Motors, told The Hindu that the factory, being built on 14 acres would be completed by the end of 2012. VTTL's existing Bangalore facility is producing to its full capacity of 10,000 units of tractors and 35,000 units of tillers annually. The company has shelved the earlier proposal to shift the entire tractor manufacturing base to Hosur from Bangalore. Mr. Surendra said that VTTL would continue with both the facilities for some time. The company aims to double its current turnover of Rs.550 crore by 2013. The group also has an NBFC (non-banking finance company), Gove Investments & Finance Limited, for funding its captive customers. He said this business would see a growth in the coming years. At present, the company was providing 90 per cent of its finance to its Tamil Nadu customers and only 10 per cent to its Bangalore customers. This ratio would change in the next few years, he added. Mr. Surendra said VST was planning to scale up the NBFC business pan-India and start lending to other borrowers too. The VST group, consisting of VTTL, VST Motors, India Garage and Gove Investments apart from a few other dealerships, had a turnover of Rs.3,000 crore last year. The VST group is now celebrating 100{+t}{+h} anniversary of its founding. The group was founded by V. S. Thiruvengadaswamy in 1911 in Bangalore. It subsequently expanded its operations to Chennai in 1942 with a dealership to distribute Austin and Studebaker cars. In 1954, VST Motors became a dealer for Tata Motors' trucks and opened showrooms across Tamil Nadu. Following the success in the trucks business, VST entered into an agreement with Mahindra & Mahindra to sell its products. In 1959, it opened India Garage to market Mahindra vehicles. In recent times, the company has opened dealerships for leading car brands such as Ford, Volkswagen and Jaguar Land Rover.
