what's the height difference between the two rebar layers 1 or 2 m ? are they gonna pour that huge amount of concrete it would take tons of hours to do that

^^ Look at the people on the picture below. These frames are definitely around 4 meters tall so the distance between layers is something like that.

Could someone explain why is there this big stainless steel structure only at this place (on the left hand side) ?

Today they have practically covered all the surface with the upper layer of rebars so there is really only 1 piece of this structure.

Hard to tell. It's attached to the support of a core column (the steel plate on the upper left corner so the steel structure has probably something to do with the distribution of the loads of that column in the raft foundation. I guess the loads from the core walls at that point are heavier than on the other places (design of the core, general wind direction, hurricane resistance??). Anyway that steel structure will distribute the loads of that column more equally over the piles in that section of the core :)

Does anyone can make a rough estimation of how much steel was used to for all this rebar, and how much concrete will need to complete the raft ? I assume that there are between 2000-4000 metric tonnes of steel, and will need 5-10 times more concrete. please correct me if i'm wrong, and let's count the concrete trucks when the pour begins.

These are some possibilities. One of mine was also that the slab could be thinner for any reason in that place (lift shafts etc) so they have to reinforcement it harder. Looking at the last update it seems it is the case. The lower part is directly above the steel structure.

Hi all.

The dips in the rebar could be a number of things. The structure will have many elevators but only a few that will go down to level B5. The bottom of elevator shafts is the most likely reason for the dips.

I wonder if the extra beams they are laying on top of the rebar are the first indication of where the core walls will be ?

For me, yes. There are 4 x 4 "super piles" under the core. That makes a 3x3 "room" seperatet core. And the upper rebarprofiles the core wall footprints.
If i am not wrong same as ST.

The elevators, who runs to b5 need a deeper level as the slap will be. Thats why the separeted rebar.

Just my opinium.

Not all raft pours are done in one continuous pour.
For instance the BK was done in 4 seperate pours but that makes sense considering its 3 lobed shape.
I'm pretty sure most round rafts are done in one pour though.

OK ..... What in tarhooty !!! :lol::lol:

I would have said 4 days ago they were ready for the raft pour. Fifteen cm. above the rebar then, would be the floor of level B5 that is the same height as B4. That will be the top of the raft - no doubt.

What all this other 2 level high stuff is ... ???
As with many of the proceedures on this project, a new path is taken to get to the usual result.

This foundation for this project has been most interesting. :)

They build additianal scaffoldings with a slope inwards the construction site. I also think that is for the pouring. But then the scaffoldings stand in the concrete. Perhaps they leave the scaffoldings for further building. Don't mind me, I just say something.:)

Why they build the ramps into the hole, i don't know. Maybe protect the pour from rain during pour.

Hi Vito.
Thanks for your input.

Well ... those are quite the ramps they have there ...

Don't tell me the workers are going to roll those 100 year old looking carts down them, full of concrete, for 3 months to pour the raft ...
A joke, of course but knowing some of the proceedures used on this project in the past - I wonder ?? ...

Seriously, it looks like each ramp will have another ramp below going back the other way.
Could it be they are going to slide the concrete down the main and lower ramps, like big chutes and direct it over the sides where they need it ??
Normally they don't want to drop the concrete from a height but perhaps they have a special mix ??

Very interesting. :)

And also, someone on this site posted a skyline render of this building in... Well, the skyline. All of the official renders just showcase this building, and while that isn't necessarily a bad thing, could someone post a picture of this building in Shenzhen's skyline as a whole?

That would be much appreciated :)

Hi all.

So, my guess was correct in that the ramps are large chutes - lucky guess ...

With that guess was the thought of directing the concrete over the sides where they need it, letting it fall onto the rebar.

I'm going to ammend that part because I don't think any concrete should be dropped from a height and that would be taking a chance on the rebar ties breaking and things getting out of place as well.

I'm thinking now, the ramps will be used to pour the areas under the podium only, then taken down. Those areas would be more difficult for concrete boom trucks to reach anyway. Then for the raft under the main tower (the area at the bottom of the hole) boom trucks will be used like most other projects ??

Awesome updates guys.

you're an enthusiast so the effort of teaching some extra knowledge is no wasted time in your case... :)

I'm going to ammend that part because I don't think any concrete should be dropped from a height and that would be taking a chance on the rebar ties breaking and things getting out of place as well.

The rebar is not the problem. When conrete falls down more than approx. one meter the cement and aggregates like gravel would segregate. Then you'd have just a pile of gravel with a bit of cement in between. The right mixture is key, then you can put heavy loads on top of it. Btw gravel is used as an aggregate because only cement is to expensive, can support less loads and would produce too much heat while curing (it's a chemical process, not just "drying").

I'm thinking now, the ramps will be used to pour the areas under the podium only, then taken down. Those areas would be more difficult for concrete boom trucks to reach anyway. They almost look out of place on this project with its stone age proceedures. :)

Reaching down into places they couldn't get the paleolithic ramps to go, I reckon.

I joke ... I'm not putting any of the proceedures down at all - whatever works. This project has been most interesting to watch. I actually hope for more old age surprises.

According to some maps it will continue to the North to Songgang and further North. I now wonder what kind of line it will be? In the same Wikipedia map it says it will be the SZ-Dongguan-Guangzhou inter-city (commuter/suburban?) rail so I would assume it's not the same as 'ordinary' metro lines. And what speed would it run at? 160km/h? 200km/h?

Futian: Shekou Line, Longgang Line, Airport Line, Meilin Line (which just changed its name from Neihuan Line) & Eastern Express Line

I don't think Meilin Line is going to Futian..Take a look at this PDF:http://www.szpl.gov.cn/xxgk/tzgg/othersgg/201112/P020111208608490462306.pdf

160km/h? 200km/h?

The map: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/6/67/SZ_Railway_2020_English.png

That map is quite old, there are new added stations in Airport Line and many of the stations have been renamed. But this happened only a few days ago, let's wait for a new stuff.

Hey, in terms of the subway... the Shenzhen Metro is in the process of attempting to raise RMB100billion in MTNs. Much of what happens next is dependent on the success of said financing, as the subway is currently losing about RMB2 billion/year.

We'll likely see an expansion, but I'm not sure what proportion of the commonly cited "Shenzhen Metro Plan, 2020" we'll actually end up seeing. Right now preliminary research is going on for line 7, line 9, and line 11. Line 11 seems like the most speculative of the bunch, so I think lines 7 and 9, and probably an expansion of some of the current lines, seem like a safe bet.

not the same as some of other cities, Shenzhen government is now not exactly responsible for any of the metro companies. That's why the companies need to fund themselves for building lines and operate them. MTR(SZ) can get money from its 'mother' MTR(HK), which is the only metro company earned money in the world... But SZMC and SZML3 are not that lucky.

the government can only release some land for proposal and let them bet, which means they also need to pay the government to get specific sites. and a number of apartments have to be built as public apartments and return to the government...

we can see unless the companies are closing down, the city government will not do much...

the railway station is in between Futian station and Shopping Park station...

without the Crystal Island or Link City(underground shopping centre between Shopping Park and Exhibition Center station) you cannot directly get access to Civic Center station and Exhibition Center station..

When shall the Crystal Island or Link City be built?

When shall the Crystal Island or Link City be built?

Link City is almost completed, the shops are being decorated. It should be end of this year or very beginning of next year.
No more info on the Crystal island for a while! I want this to be built so that I can have my long running track completed!

chornedsnorkack
December 12th, 2011, 11:45 AM
So, the opening due dates:
Link City - in Hare Year, whether 2011 or 2012.
Guangzhou-Longhua high speed railway - in Hare Year, but in January.
High speed railway Longhua-Futian - in Dragon Year.
Baoan airport Terminal 3 - in Dragon Year, but then not connected to metro.
Airport Line, Futian to Terminal 3 and beyond - in Sheep Year.
High speed railway Futian-Hong Kong - in Sheep Year.
Pingan centre - in Monkey Year, 18th of March.

Crystal Island - unknown future time.
Eastern Express - unknown future time.

Correct?

Hi Eastern.

The BK raft is 3.7 meters thick and Shanghai Tower's is 6 meters thick (!!).

I think a factor in the BK wait time was the switch from the foundation general contractor (and all their subs) to the structural general contractors (and all their subs).
