Sorry, the official planning of the project has just come out, any company intending to bid on the project must invest at least 5billion RMB and pre-pay 10million RMB to the government by Sept. 26th, 4:30pm. There is no design yet.

PS: the link works to me tho, just a little bit slow.

Link works, just the PDF is in simplified Chinese, so you may not have the language package to open it probably.

It's just a notice of land bidding to developers from the government for a parcel in Shenzhen with a list of zoning requirement. There is no master plan, rendering or anything in detail.

Well, TV Towers are not skyscrapers :D And the East Tower... I think that the height increase wasn't approved.

There are other 500m+ proposals in China. The city model of Tianjin's Nanjing Lu shows a 130 floor tower, just a concept prop by the moment. And Wuhan's Wangjiadun CBD is supposed to be planning a 500m tower in a long term too.

The future “the Shenzhen first tall building” will possibly amount to 500 meters! (chart article)

Will receive the attention the future “the Shenzhen first tall building” to open the mystical veil, at present altogether had 4 kind of design proposal drawing a charge, this building gross altitude will amount possibly to 500 meters.

Some net friends announced had “the first tall building” the name “Shenzhen safe finance building” (or call “Shenzhen safe international finance building”) the effect chart. The effect chart demonstrated that “the Shenzhen first tall building” present had 4 kind of design proposals, the design style is completely different, has assumes the straight peak high in the clouds H, to go against the base slightly wide skyscraper modelling as well as the calm atmospheric tower and “the insightful quartz”.

It is known that on November 6, the safe group by 1,656,800,000 throws Shenzhen central area together commerce land. According to the plan, this project's design altitude is not lower than 450 meters, this surpassed the present Shenzhen to be highest highly constructs in 383.95 meter place king building as well as the plan located at Cai Wuwei 88 ultra 400 meters “the Beijing base building”, after this building completed, will become the Shenzhen new terrestrial reference. Before safe group news spokesperson indicated that after this building completes, the main achievement using for oneself property, will become the safe headquarters building, but hadn't this project when operation construction had the concrete timetable.

Reporter from the safe group interior public figure found yesterday, recently drew a charge “Shenzhen safe finance building” 4 nested design plans, are by the world famous planning board design, at present in the safe headquarters interior staff is carrying in-line voting. But this public figure also indicated that at present is only the preliminary collection opinion stage, does not remove the result which makes a final decision finally not in these 4 sets of alternative plans.

Shenzen Supertall Aims To Trump Shanghai Center
Shenzen on the Chinese border with Hong Kong could get the world's second tallest building if a new development goes ahead.

The main building will be the new headquarters for one of China's largest financial companies, Pingan Insurance who are aiming for something truly big with a 115-storey tower that will reach 646 metres to its tip.

The scheme is a needle sharp tower with a pointed spire and strong stone vertical lines running up the cladding accentuating the height further and providing a contrast with the glass they stand in front of and the corners which are entirely glazed until it's peak. This is amplified even more by the gradual tapering the tower takes on it as it rises.

It's a shape that plays on the soaring shapes of iconic highrise buildings like the Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building and is also intended to tip a nod to Chinese mythology by combining with the skyline to create a "dragons spine" outline.

At ground level it splays out and connects with a large public plaza with the entrances cutting diagonally into the foot of it. So large are they, a service road to drop people off by car also winds through the ground level.

Connected to it is a long six-storey podium intended to be a shopping with an hourglass footprint that also provides links to a second shorter tower that will be "only" 307.5 metres in height. This will be a hotel building.

There's an element of one-upmanship going on here. Despite being proposed later, the Pingan International Financial Center is being aimed for a 2013 completion whereas the now under construction Shanghai Center will be completed a year later.

Ping An Insurance, China's second largest insurer, denied earlier reports on Wednesday that the company plans to build China's tallest skyscraper as its headquarters, China News Service reports.

"The company has no intention of constructing such a building as its headquarters", a spokesman of Ping An told China News Service on Wednesday. However they did confirmed that the company is considering building a new office building in Shenzhen to be used as its headquarters.

Experts believe Ping An's building project will benefit from the lower land costs and construction fees amid the economic downturn and also free the company from the huge rental fees it currently faces.

Read some minutes ago in China News Wire:

http://www.chinaknowledge.com/Newswires/News_Detail.aspx?type=1&NewsID=20898

Feb. 6, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Ping An Insurance (Group) Co<601318><2318>, China's second largest insurer, is planning to build a new office tower in Shenzhen, a tower that will be the tallest building in China, the Standard reported.

The 646-meter Ping An office tower, which is designed to have 115 stories, is expected to involve investment of about RMB 10 billion (HK$11.3 billion) in total.

According to an announcement by the local government agency Shenzhen Environment Project Service Center, the construction of the new building is scheduled to start as early as the first half of 2009 and to end by 2014.

The tower will be taller than the 492-meter Shanghai World Financial Center and the 632-meter Shanghai Tower, sources said.

Building an office tower is better than renting one, considering the company's development strategy, said Richard Sheng Ruisheng, Ping An spokesman, adding that the move will help save money, since rental accounted for a significant portion of the group's operating expenses in past years.

So to me, it seems that the article I have posted 2 days ago that was saying that this project was only rumors was done intentionally by PingAn to do not draw to much attention in such time of crisis. Now they are timidly trying to come back by justifying the purchase of this gigantic structure by telling that in fine, it's better to buy than to rent... That's a good excuse, we'll all agree! As long as this project starts this year!

As I live 5 minutes walk from it, you can be sure that as soon as I see some construction workers hanging around the stop, I'll post some pictures!

As read on online edition of Wall Street Journal. 5th of february:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123374684348547585.html

SHANGHAI -- At a time when companies world-wide trim spending, Ping An Insurance (Group) Co. of China Ltd. said it plans to build a skyscraper in Shenzhen, which could become China's tallest building.

The insurer, in which HSBC Holdings PLC owns a 17% stake, was sitting on 56.7 billion yuan ($8.2 billion) in cash as of Sept. 30, according to its third-quarter financial report, and analysts say Ping An still has enough cash to fund the building of its new headquarters.

Construction of the 646-meter, 115-floor office tower will begin in the first half, and is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2014, local government agency Shenzhen Environment Engineering Consulting Service Center said in a statement on its Web site.

If completed according to plan, the Ping An tower could supersede the 492-meter Shanghai World Financial Center as the tallest building in mainland China, and could be taller than the 632-meter Shanghai Tower, which is also slated for completion in 2014.

"If you take the cost of the land into account, the development cost of the office tower built by Ping An could exceed that of Shanghai World Financial Center," said Remy Chan, regional director at property consultancy Jones Lang LaSalle.

The 101-story Shanghai World Financial Center cost $1.15 billion and took more than 10 years to build.

"After 20 years of development, Ping An has set up a series of units, including banking, securities and trust investment. So we need such a headquarters to house these units," said Sheng Ruisheng, a spokesman at Ping An.

He declined to comment on the details of the tower. "The plan may be subject to future revisions," he said.

Demand for prime office space in Shenzhen, southern China's major business center, has been sluggish due to the worsening global economy. But some analysts are optimistic about China's property market. "The real-estate market should recover by 2014, as the current financial crisis will come to an end by then," said Wei Bo, an analyst at Central China Securities Co.

By the end of December 2008, Shenzhen-based Ping An recorded original premium income of 101.18 billion yuan for the year, representing a growth of 27.8% from 79.18 billion yuan in the correspondent period of 2007, according to the China Insurance Regulatory Commission.

THE Shenzhen-based Ping An Insurance (Group) Co. on Wednesday denied media reports that the company is going to spend more than 10 billion yuan (US$1.46 billion) to build China’s tallest skyscraper in Shenzhen.

The company spokesman said Ping An had no intention of building the country’s tallest building, but the new office tower, which will house its head office, will be Shenzhen’s tallest.

The spokesman did not provide other details about Ping An’s new building, saying that the whole project is still being planned. However, the tower is scheduled to be completed in December 2014.

Ping An spent more than 1.6 billion yuan to acquire the land in November 2007 in the city’s central business district in Futian. The skyscraper will be the first such move for the company since it was founded 20 years ago, according to the spokesman, whose name was not available.

It was widely reported recently that the company is building the country’s tallest tower. Shanghai’s National Business Daily said Tuesday that Ping An will build a 646-meter office tower, taller than the 632-meter Shanghai Tower. The Daily cited an unidentified local environmental Web site. The Shanghai Tower, which is still under construction, will be China’s tallest building.

The insurer is likely to use its own cash to build the office tower instead of getting a bank loan, the Daily said, citing an unidentified person.

The city government is planning to develop the central business district as a financial hub, dubbing it Shenzhen’s Wall Street, according to the government plan.

It will relocate the Shenzhen Stock Exchange to the business district from the existing location in Caiwuwei, Luohu District. Other financial institutions and banks will also have their office buildings in the area.

you don't need to worry about that too much, this project is certainly going to be built in July, just be patient and wait to see what will happen.
Don't pay too much attention to the news, because chinese Journalist know nothing about this project.

The contradictory information continues!

The spokesperson said the company has "no intention" to build the country's tallest building. So it means they did not have the "we need to have the country's tallest building" notion in mind when they planned it. The building just happens to be the tallest :D. Or the company is trying to keep a low profile to avoid stimulating some other developer in another city coming up with an even taller building.

^^ yea, he meant the goal wasnt to build the highest of china, so if shanghai center was 650 meters, pingan still would be 646 meters. I hope this is what he means at least.

Considering the height of the taller tower, it'll make Shanghai want to build an 800-meter tower. I don't think China will build a 800-m tower. I should have had the Pingan IFC and the Shanghai Tower switch heights. Why does the tallest building in China have to be in Shenzhen anyway?

why not? shenzhen is the richest large city in china on a per capita basis, and unlike the shanghai centre, which is partly funded by the local government, the pingan tower is entirely financed by the firm itself; and lastly, don't forget that shenzhen's shunhing building was the tallest building in china when it completed.

As PingAn direct main competitor in China, "China Insurance Group", has approved the design of a beautiful "4 towers in 1" building in Shenzhen as its headquarter, PingAn won't have any other options to make something big to compete architecturly speaking! :D

Can someone start a thread about this new "4 towers in 1" building for "China Insurance group"?
