Discussion series focuses on Tampa as a livable city
Tampa Bay Business Journal - 10:49 AM EDT Thursday, August 30, 2007
Several architects are collaborating to present a discussion series in Tampa focused on elements "critical to the design of a livable community in the Tampa Bay Region," a release said.
The first session in Tampa-based Urban Charrette group's community forum series "Designing our region: Tampa small, medium, large" is scheduled for Sept. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m at the Tampa Museum of Art. Admission is $20 for the general public and $10 for students.
Part of the discussion will focus on the importance of making a city easy to walk in, street design and the impact of design on public health.
Speakers are scheduled to include Vikas Mehta, assistant professor at the University of South Florida School of Architecture and Community Design; Grant Rimbey, president of Citizens for the Redevelopment of Temple Terrace; Ralph Bosek from the city of Temple Terrace; and Marc J. Yacht, former director of the Pasco County Health Department.
Forum partners include the Regional and Urban Design Committee, AIA Tampa Bay, the USF School of Architecture and Community Design and Creative Tampa Bay.
The Urban Charrette was co-founded by Taryn Sabia and Adam Fritz in April. It helps people build livable communities through leadership and collaboration using workshops and charrettes, a release said. The self-described "urban design collaborative" stimulates civic engagement and explores strategies for implementation.
Further information regarding the series or the collaborative is available by sending e-mail to urbancharrette@gmail.com.
