Since we all are of Pak. origin but our Pak. info might not be that great as most of us lived & studied abroad, why not share our knowledge of everything Pakistani.

Here is the first question to tickle your mind.

Inaddition to Dawn, what was the other main newspaper that Quaid-e-Azam founded, thats still in print in Pakistan?

The clock is ticking....

Time limit: 48 hours

No, jang's founder was Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman.

I'll make it really easy. The newspaper that claims Jinnah founded it, is neither in English nor in Urdu. Go figure!

I had given it away by saying its not urdu or English but you still didn't name it.

Its call Watan, for mostly Pakistan Gujrati memon community.

Next question: Who can name the first wife of Quaid-e-Azam?

Really easy, so Time Limit : 24 HRS

Did you know that Quaid-e-Azam's birthday was incorrect on his school certificate that only got corrected when he was going abroad.

Who can tell what was the date as his birthday on his school certificate, before it got corrected to Dec. 25, 1886?

Time Limit: Till I get arrested again!

It could be but no denying now that Pak. population is out of whack. Something needs to be done fast, like yesterday!!

Mr. Oogabooga, its not Islamabad or any other major city.

Mr. SiamuRathka its one of a kind because no bookstore in Pakistan generally let you sit in the store eating, drinking and reading books without buying first. It only happens generally in bbokstore chains like Barnes& Noble etc.

You're probably right about Pak's pop at Independence. I can't be bothered to confirm or object to the figure provided by you. But there is no way in hell that 13 million people migrated to Pak from India in 1947 as, as far as I can remember from my geography lessons in Pak. The figure was said to be 6 million for Paksitan and 7 million for India.

A census wasn't conducted in the early 90s as the immature, stupid and selfish provinces of Pakistan couldn't agree on how the census should be conducted and what the criteria should be. Thats why it was delayed till 1998 and thats why all the next censuses will be conducted on the 8th year of the decade unless there is another cock up like in 1991 or 1971 (when the census was delayed to 1972, due to the war.)

Nothing against books. I wish I could read books, but I can';t. The reason hasn't got anything to do with books per se. i just can't do anything that requires time and patience. I get disheartened to see that I'm on page 2 and there are about 400 more to go. Secondly, I've never found a posture in which I can read books without any part of my body feeling uncomfy. I know that sounds stupid, but that's a major reason. The ability to read books is one of my biggest wishes.

Your right! There is absolutely no position in which you can comfortably read a book but that shouldnt discourage one from reading! Its the thrill and the suspense of the book that keeps you glued to it regardless of the condition in which your in. And if you become impatient with the book then it means that the book doesnt interest you, because if you were interested in the book then you would never become impatient!

So I would recommend that you start reading with some nice text-porno.

I AGREE IT DOESN'T LOOK THAT OLD TO ME EITHER BUT THATS WHAT IT SAID. FASEEL=BOUNDRY WALL
( Its probably couple of thousands years old though)

One of the most ancient cities of Pakistan (5000 years), Sialkot has an historical importance for having this one of the oldest fort in Pakistan. Known historian Diayas Jee has recorded in his book that Hindu Raja Sálbán had re-established the Sialkot city about 2nd century AD and ruled over the area that fell between the rivers Ravi and Chenab. Sálbán had built the Sialkot Fort (having double wall then) for the defense of the city. Raja Sálbán deputed more than 10000 laborers and masons for the repairing and widening of this fort with huge-sized stone slabs and rocks brought here from Pathankot. This work completed in a stipulated period of two years, having two huge walls and 12 bastions in this ancient Sialkot fort. Raja Salbahan had a great respect for her wife,Rani Achchran and loved her very much. He built a very attractive palace for her which was (approximately) 9 square miles in area near Roras (Ugoki) and was designed and constructed by architects and engineers from Greece. A wonderful road was built from the Fort to Rani Achchran's palace (Present Sahabpura Road in Sialkot). During 1179 to 1186 Shahab ud-Din Ghori occupied Lahore and Sindh. With the help of king of Jammu, he occupied the fort of Sialkot.

The late Rashid Niaz, another historian who has authored Tareekh-i-Sialkot, wrote that the second wall of the ancient Sialkot Fort was discovered by the then Sialkot Municipal Corporation in 1923 while carrying out digging for installations in various parts of the city. At that time, archaeology experts from Taxila and Delhi visited Sialkot and confirmed that the stone-made faseel was 5,000 years old. Later, that wall was re-buried (in soil).

Sealkote Fort, 1862 sketch by A. H. Hope Wedderburn (1823-1900)At present, just few ruines including a bastion has been left. The provincial archaeology department of Punjab and the district administration have left the historical Sialkot Fort to rot as among many ills plaguing it is growing number of encroachments which have become a blot on its face. Offices of the district government a are located on the fort premises, but none of the officials concerned seems willing to improve the lot of the centuries-old building.

Question,
Why wasn't a census conducted in the early 90's?

The 1998 Population and Housing Census was initially planned to be undertaken in March, 1991 but could not be held as scheduled mainly due to apprehension about lack of consensus among the provinces on dates, methodology, etc. The apprehension arose out of the linkage of census figures with political and economic rights of the provinces as laid down in the Constitution of Pakistan.

^^ Like I said before, our STUPID provinces were to blame.

What type of architecture does it look like? I had a long debate with a friend about these pics. He said it was Islamic architecture (i.e. the dome, arches), but it cannot be, because Muslims are obligued to bury their dead, not leave them on the ground. Add to that, why would anyone build tombs in the middle of nowhere? This is why I think it was somebody from Alexander's army or empire.

I don't know why, but I have become very curious about this structure.

You think that maybe it could be a Zoroarstrian tomb? Now correct me if I'm wrong but dont Zoroarstrians let the bodies decompose and let the vultures pick on them and then they take the bones and put them in a tomb or something? I believe that their religion preaches that everything that comes from the earth must go back into it so they do this by feeding their dead to the scavenger birds inorder to become a part of the foodchain again, or something.

Pakia

Yeah most likely Zorastian's burial places. They may not be older than few centuries as the muslim-influenced domes indicate.

But yeah someone should do a DNA testing and do some research, if none has already been done.

Where did he say Zoroastrian?

^^ Nowhere, just guessing from the pics, as thats what Zorastians do. Leave their deads on high places or in tombs on plains for vultures.

You know something more, please do tell.

He didnt, I was just presenting an idea that occurred to me. I had a Zoroarstrian friend once and she told me all that I know about that religion.

Perhaps you are right. Never thought of that. But note that all the skulls in the pictures are damaged/broken/smashed, which normally indicates that the body had been abused when alive (i.e. stabbed in the head - see hole in the skull). I don't see a single perfect skull in the pics, and the bones are all over the place, instead of being attached to each other & laying down neatly (i.e. disrespectful way of treating the dead). I don't think vultures or any other birds are capable of ripping/breaking bones & smashing skulls. However, this all could've been done by accident over the ages or simply by the walls/ceiling bricks collapsing.

Proper testing could reveal how old these bones are, and only then we could know who they really are.

Zoroastrian theory seems to be the case most likely. These people are called Parsis in the sub-continent, if I'm not mistaken. I know there are many Parsis in India, but not sure about Pakistan. Ethnically, they are Persians.

That damage could have also happened due to vandalism.

Yea.. but who would vandalise a dead body or somebody's bones? Especially, in the middle of nowhere.

I thought about these pics for an hour, and I can only conclude that they are Alexandrian tombs, or Mongol (who never came this far south).

Located in Galuga, in the district of Kharan, in Balochistan.

You have any detailed info on this structure?

A mummy have been found here and is disputed but claimed to be of 600BC persian royal family. So, these could possible be of the local population at that time instead of a Alexandrian or Mongolian tomb.

Most probably is Zoroastrian. I read that article before.. they said the mummy is a fake.

Final question before people start calling me names.
No hint though.

Quaid-e-Azam said in one of his speeches “You are free; you are free to go to your temples, you are free to go to your mosques, or to any place of worship in this state of Pakistan. You may belong to any religion or caste or creed — that has nothing to do with the business of the State.” When was the speech delivered, before Partition or after Partition?

The big deal is that moderate people like us who truly and wholeheartedly believe in seperating religion from State should know this speech by heart! This speech serves the purpose of a slap in the face for bastards who deny that Jinnah was secular and that he wanted religion to be kept out of matters of the state.

So it is a big deal! NOW DROP DOWN AND GIMME 20 YOU MAGGOT! >(
