as i said, i'm just a newbie in moutain climbing. just recently when i met some officemates who are in moutaing climbing and gave me an invitation.

so far, my 3rd experience in hiking was the best.
lot of moutaineers (& even non) who have several times been there.
in Mt. Romelo-Famy-Laguna.

It's time to conquer Mt. Apo!

Never i've seen a place as diverse as Mt. Apo . From its' flora and fauna, to it's diversed landscape. form the muddy and scenic foot ,the mighty agco river and it's hot water springs , the canopied rain forests and to the huge boulders and awful smell of sulfur fumes atop the rugged peak.
come join me and explore the place we called Apo Sandawa.

What's the evelation of Mt. Apo?

last measured at 10,311 ft. but officially its 9,690ft.

some interesting facts how did Mt. Apo gets its height....

What The Geologists Say
The geologists tell us some interesting facts about Apo. They tell us that it is a volcanic cone built up in Pleistocene or in "recent" geologic time. ("Recent" to the geologist would be extremely ancient to most of us.) They also tell us that Apo does not arise directly out of the plain, as does Arayat in Central Luzon (or Nui Ba Den in Viet Nam). Mount Apo sits upon the shoulder of another mountain, which of course gives it additional height. "Sitting" is of course my term: the geologists call it "burying." In other words, Apo is like a rider on horse-back, the horse being the cordillera or mountain-range that stretches across the island of Mindanao from north to south, from Diwata and Sipaca Points in the north to Sarangani Bay in the south. Apo, moreover, is a rider sitting squarely in the horses back. In technical language: "this volcanic mass is elongate in the north-south direction and the apex appears to coincide approximately with the axis of the folded range which it apparently buries." In this respect Apo differs from other volcanic masses in the area, for both Mount Matutum and Parker Volcano are built up somewhat to the west of the axis of the folded range.

A double major, double strenuous Mt. Dulang-Dulang to Mt. Kitanglad Traverse Climb

http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/8351/mknprvj3.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

It's on.Our much awaited Mt. Dulang-Dulang to Mt. Kitanglad Traverse Climb will finally push through come August 23-26 in the Mt. Kitanglad Range and National Park, in Bukidnon Philippines. As if climbing two of the 5 highest peaks in the Philippines is not enough, were trying to finish the climb in 3 days. Me thinks it is a double major climb or a double strenuous climb.

Mt. Dulang Dulang and Mt. Kitanglad are actually two of the several peaks (the others peaks being Mt. Maagnaw and Mt. Kalatungan) that composes the Mt. Kitanglad Range and National Park (MKNR) that covers half of the northern portion of Central Mindanao. A national forest reservation, it is home to some of the endemic flora and birds in the Philippines. Recent sightings of the renowned Philippine Eagle also boost the title of the range as an ecodiverse community.
Mt. Dulang-Dulang (D2 to mountain addicts) looms at 9, 637 ft ASL, the second highest in Mindanao and the Philippines. The all year rainy season makes it one of the coldest mountain peaks in the Philippines.Mt. Kitanglad, at 9, 509 ft ASL, is another mountain to reckon with. The last time I went there I hated going out of the bunk house for fear of freezing outside despite layers of fleece and shell. It is widely known among bird enthusiasts to be home to some rare species of woodpeckers. After that horrifying Mt. Matutum Climb I made last time, this will be my next climbing schedule. But I never bow out of challenges simply because I made mistakes on the last one. This one should make me a little bit a hard core. Or shall we say, a mountain rat.
Update on this August 20, 2007: As of now the traverse trail has been destroyed by a landslide from the series of storms that went over Philippines. We were advise by the local overseer agency not to pursue our planned traverse because of this and the line up of storm coming. We decide to just climb mount Dulang instead, which is safe for climbers now.
Note: For those interested in joining the climb you may contact me though e-mail here

so it's Mt. Dulang-Dulang(9637 ft. ) the 2nd highest mountain in the Philippines not Mt. Pulog (9610 ft.)

Before you start the trek, you will see 'bayawaks' or monitor lizards. Be careful since they kind of blend with the terrain.

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k60/ECdoesit2/078_78.jpg

Monkeys abound in the mountain and they will usually grab plastic bags from you since these smart creatures know that you might be carrying food with you. The climb is fun but be sure that you are physically fit because you will soon find your heart pumping and stripping your shirt because of the heat to prevent hyperventilation.

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k60/ECdoesit2/088_88.jpg

Down the the trek, you will be rewarded with a chance to frolic in beautiful Palawan beaches.

http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k60/ECdoesit2/093_93.jpg

Before or after doing the trek, don't forget to do underground river spelunking in the famed Puerto Princessa Underground River of Palawan (formerly known as St. Paul's Underground River.)

It's eerie, dim, dark and cool inside.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a137/ECdoesit/082_82.jpg

Here is a stalactite that you might see among the other awesome rock formations there which appear to be natural shrines. Nothing beats seeing those for yourself and experiencing it.

I heard that mountaineers are very very destructive and very irresponsible stewards of the environment

A friend of mine from davao said that they had to close mount apo for two years because a bunch of mountaineers had a get together at mount apo and left a trail of trash and destruction MY GOSH, TYPICAL!

dinabaw

^^that's true they closed it for almost 2 years, but now the DENR & DOT are very strict they have personnel who are stationed in different area s, so sino yung mag litter may fine or ibaban next time but totally hindi talaga malilinis lahat, may policy na "bring your own garbage" at doon din papasok yung mga "Bundoksurero" a group of mountain climbers who are concerned w/ Mt. Apo and the environment after the climbing season.

I think those mountaineers you mentioned are not really "true " mountaineers. ngayon rin dapat accredited ang lahat ng mountaineering group na umaakyat sa Apo .

The grassy Mt. Batulao in Batangas

http://img515.imageshack.us/img515/4871/batulaobloglp1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Mt. Batulao was recommended by my mountaineer office colleague for a fun weekend hike. She said it’s her favorite mountain because it’s easy to climb, clean and not crowded with campers. So I said, “Mt. Batulao with my nephew, Joevert, on Saturday then.” We’re both inexperienced mountain climbers (my first time to climb was only last week with Verns and Mark on Mt. Manabo, Batangas).

Thirty minutes into the hike with a guide, we met three mountaineers---the real kind---who were enjoying the scenic view from a hilltop. We exchanged pleasantries and when they knew it’s just the two of us hiking, they invited us to join them at Camp 1. Because they’re social drinkers too (they brought gin while I brought brandy), I immediately said “yes.”

Mountaineers Nino, Jaypee and Des whom we met on our way up

Cut to the chase: we downed 2 liters of gin that night. Brandy was untouched. We couldn’t drink it anymore as it’s practically just the three of us (me and the two male mountaineers) drinking. What has this got to do with my fun weekend hike story here? A lot. Because the following day (and that’s today), I had some sort of a hangover and said “yes” to our newfound friends’ invitation to climb with them to the summit. Since I’m a bit scared of heights, I initially said “no” but when Des mentioned it’s an opportunity for me to get better pics up there, I changed my mind and decided to go. Joevert tagged along.

My nephew, Joevert

That was a mistake for me. Because only a few steps away from the windy Camp 7 where the trail slope was, I think, around 70 degrees, I felt dizzy. It’s acrophobia worsened by hangover. I was immobile for several minutes as I tightly held on to grasses while Joevert was behind me trying to goad me on. He's laughing at me, actually. Kids! Des was at Camp 7 grounds already also trying to coax me to proceed. “You can make it. Just don’t look down,” she said. Tough moment. And life is nothing but a series of decisions. If I continue, either I reach at least Camp 7 and take better pics from there or get out of balance and plunge to my death. Yay! If I retreat, I won’t get a better vantage point for my panoramic pics. And I’ll be a failure. Heck, it’s better to be a living failure than a dead failure. So, after what seemed like eternity, I decided to go back. But before that, I had to get this pic of Des:

Des the encourager

Joevert wanted to reach the summit too but being a loyal companion, he went back with me. Thank you. When we got to the area where it’s safer to stand, he took this pic of me:

Moi, Abaniko

See, I was sad because I never got to the peak. But happy just the same because I'm still alive.

What can I say? I shall return, Mt. Batulao! I shall return....and drink less gin.

?Protect Mt. Hamiguitan or we die?

Froilan Gallardo / MindaNews
Monday, 23 April 2007 13:38

MACAMBOL, Mati, Davao Oriental (MindaNews/22 April) -- Higaonon Datu Manaon Victor Aying shuffled his feet as he rose to face the small gathering of Macambol residents intently listening to him.

Raising his voice slightly, the tribal leader said, “we will protect Mt.Hamiguitan and PujadaBay or we will die.”

Everyone nodded approval as the Datu explained why they have to oppose the plan by BHP-Billiton Limited to open a nickel-copper mining project in Mt.Hamiguitan.

There is a gathering storm of opposition against the mining project here and residents are voicing their protests through small meetings like this.

The Datu said they are concerned the project will destroy the rich natural habitat of the Hamiguitan mountain range, the major source of nutrients for the bountiful fish found in PujadaBay.

The rivers of Mt.Hamiguitan empty into PujadaBay, which was declared a Protected Seascape and Landscape Area by President Fidel V. Ramos’ Proclamation 431 in July 1994.

Ten years later, on July 30, 2004, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo signed Republic Act 9303 declaring Mt.Hamiguitan range “and its vicinities” as protected area under the category of wildlife sanctuary “and its peripheral areas as buffer zone.”

The Philippine Eagle finds a nesting place in Mt.Hamiguitan.The mountain range is also a known habitat for the endangered Philippine Civet Cat and Philippine Boar and is home to thousands of hectares of Pygmy Forests, a rare natural phenomenon found only in parts of Southern California, Mexico and Central America.

PujadaBay hosts endangered species such as dugong or sea cow, sea turtles, stingrays and is the major source of livelihood for Macambol’s 3,000 residents, many of whom are fisherfolk..

The Datu said they were surprised why the government gave BHP-Billiton the approval to mine nickel and copper in this delicate natural habitat. “We depend on the mountain for our food, water and wood. Mt.Hamiguitan has been good to us,” he said.

A year after President Arroyo declared Mt. Hamiguitan a protected wildlife sanctuary, then Environment Secretary Michael Defensor approved the applications of three companies “to explore and develop” nickel deposits in Mt. Hamiguitan.

Defensor followed the actions of former Environment Secretary Elizea Gozun, who on June 8, 2004, approved the mining applications of four other companies on Mt.Hamiguitan.

The companies were given by the DENR 25 years of mining rights, renewable for another 25 years even as the area had been declared a protected landscape and seascape by Ramos as early as 1994 and even as a law, Republic Act 9303, had declared it a protected area and President Arroyo signed it into law on July 30, 2004.

Still, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, through its secretaries, approved mining in an area of 17,572 hectares on Mt. Hamiguitan, straddling the municipalities of Mati, San Isidro and Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental.

The seven companies -- Galactica Mining and Development Corporation, Mt. Peak Mining and Development Corporation; Oregon Mining and Development Corporation; Hopewell Mining Corporation; P.L. Goldman Mining and Development Corporation; Blue Ridge Minerals and Development Corporation and St. Patrick Mining and Development Corporation -- later formed Asiaticus Management Corporation or Amcor.

Amcor was able to get the financial backing of Australian firm BHP Billiton, the world’s largest mining company with interests in Africa and South America.

Last Feb. 24, Environment Secretary Angelo Reyes said BHP Billiton, in partnership with Filipino firms, Hallmark Mining Corporation and AustralAsia Link Mining Coporation, may invest $1.5 billion for its nickel mining project in PujadaBay.

“It could be anywhere from $800 million to $1.5 billion. That is the cost of setting up this operation and also the processing plant,” Reyes told reporters.

He said BHP Billiton could start construction in 2010 of a processing plant with an annual capacity of 50,000 tons of nickel. Current estimates of Hamiguitan’s nickel deposits are about 50 million metric tons at a grade of 1.3 percent nickel.

The Philippine government welcomed BHP Billiton’s investment, hoping it would boost investments in the mining sector. The government has had little success in attracting big mining firms because of legal uncertainties, political risks and opposition from powerful religious leaders and environmentalists. The government wants to attract $6.5 billion in foreign mining investments but last year received only $109 million.

This is no comfort for residents in Sitio Supsopon where BHP Billiton plans to build its processing site from out of the village’s fishponds and beaches.
Fermin Remontigue, 68, wakes up at dawn, and as is his usual wont, goes to the kitchen to heat a pot of Arabica beans, a variety of native coffee.
Sipping the tin cup of hot coffee, Remontigue gets his hunting rifle and carefully cleans it.

But the old man will not go hunting this morning. Instead, he will attend a gathering of Macambol residents who are opposed to the mining project.
“I have been hunting wild boars, Civet cats and bats in that mountain for many years. I do not know if I can hunt again if that mining firm will start to operate,” Remontigue said.

He said the mining firm has sealed off some areas in the mountain where they are conducting tests drills. For an individual who loves open spaces, Remontigue finds the idea of sealing off a mountain “very revolting.”
Remontigue’s passion for hunting is being replaced by seething rage that a foreign firm is out to mine nickel in Mt.Hamiguitan. And he has replaced his hunting rifle, at least for now, with a digital still and video camera.
He has become the “eyes and ears” of the anti-mining movement here.

“He is our eyes and ears. He reports what the company is doing up there. No one knows the mountain than “Lolo Fermin,” said community organizer Roger Billote.

Billote said the old man keeps supplying them with pictures and video of the company operations in Mt.Hamiguitan even as some areas had been “sealed.”

“The company guards cannot prevent me from climbing that mountain. I know its secrets,” Remontigue said.
Remontigue likes to keep his silence during the meetings. But after the meeting in Sitio Supsopon, he returned to the mountain to take more pictures and video.

In its website, www.minesandcommunites.org (http://www.minesandcommunites.org/) , the London-based anti-mining group reported that BHP chair Don Argus belied there was a growing opposition to their nickel mining project in PujadaBay during an interview in Oct. 20, 2005.

“We were made aware of your concerns and sent one of our guys to check it out. They met with the community and we can confirm that what you say about community opposition isn’t correct. There is widespread support for the project,” the group quoted Argus as saying.

i was so tired kala ko di na ako maka akyat ng peak pero natawa ako kasi yung German Sheperd nakatingin sa akin parang sinasabi sisiw daw ako hehehe , thanks to the dog naka akyat ako sa top ..whew!! what a great feeling ! :)

Meron ding Kapatagan (Digos City) route medyo longer lang, 2 days & 2 nights (sa trail campsites) before reaching the peak pero mas breathtaking ang views. Then sa pababa pwede na 1 day from peak to Agko (Kidapawan) or better yet stay pa kayo 1 night sa lake venado para mas sulit ang akyat nyo.

Hi Pinoy Mountaineers,

I need your opinion on this one: I want to promote the Philippines' mountaineering scene through a travel story I will write for a magazine with a wide circulation. I plan to include lots of pictures to illustrate the point.

So I want to ask you to recommend which site I should particularly focus on. The piece will be more effective if I will focus on one destination while mentioning others. So please, can you tell me WHICH destination and WHY?

Thank you in advance,

Jennifer Ellson

PS: Judging from this thread alone, I am leaning towards featuring Mt. Apo. Good choice? I would also love to hear from photographers who have high res images (the magazine will pay, although don't expect much). Please PM me if you have high res pics.

Bonsai forest-Mount Hamiguitan
They say ” The climb can truly be hard, and the ravine can be the greatest scare of your life, but once on top, you’re on for an experience of a lifetime, and experience a world of paradise.“

Lantawan1 - two lantawan points - 1 and 2

Last October 31, 2007 we travelled to San Isidro, Davao Oriental. We hired a passenger van and paid 180 pesos per head on our way to Barangay Bato-Bato where we would meet some other climbers summiting Mount Hamiguitan.

We depart from Ecoland terminal at around 12:00 midnight and arrived at Barangay Bato-Bato, San Isidro, Davao Oriental 2:00 in the morning of November 1. We meet with some other groups that are scheduled to climb Mount Hamiguitan - ADMCI or Adventist Mountaineering Club Incorporated. which comprises about 100 ++ participants. We Hitched a ride by their truck for 20 minutes on our way to Tumali-ti, La Union, San Isidro and paid 30 pesos per head. We arrived at the jump off area at around 9:00am and do some registration from local tourism officers who assist us on our needs like porters and guides. We paid 100 pesos for registration fee.

http://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5261/56185295cf5.png (http://imageshack.us)
On our way…

We started trekking at 10:00am and the the area is more abundant with Bamboo trees, Coconut trees and some river crossing just below the knee…

November 1, start trekking at 10:00 and reached camp 4 ( the first camp) at around 5p.m. We pitched our tent earlier and decided not to continue to camp3 because some members of the group are still far behind from us and accompanied by the sweeper (last man) . We were heavily rained for about 30 minutes just right after we eat our meal at around 7:30 in the evening…

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/3518/45720249np2.png (http://imageshack.us)
Camp 4…

We ascend November 2 at 7:00 am after we packed our gears and had eaten our breakfast meal and reached bonsai forest at around 10:30 in the morning… before reaching this bonsai forest, we stop and take a glance at Lantawan- a magnificent view of the pacific and the landscape of the mountains can be seen and be amazed to see from a distance the blue waters of Pujada Bay and the Pacific Ocean…. refreshing!
http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/4657/63060027tn0.png (http://imageshack.us)

Lantawan2….
30 minutes trek from lantawan and you will reached Camp2 ( Bonsai Forest) - at last!

” At 1,650 feet above sea level, one can found more than a thousand hectares of 2-3 ft. tall century-old trees that are very sturdy that one can literally stand over it without falling.” It is like a huge vegetable garden in the middle of the jungle.

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/3994/80484027kw3.png (http://imageshack.us)
How vast the bonsai forest is…

Located near the Bonsai Forest is the mysterious “Tinagong Dagat“. The area is uninhabited and is considered as one of the most puzzling phenomena of nature. The water, reportedly, has its high tide and low tide schedule.

The peak of Mount Hamiguitan is another walk of 1 to 2 hours from the Bonsai field and is 5,345 feet above sea level and to date there are 16 tree species found in the area.

Since my climbing buddy Carl and I have to return to Davao by Saturday afternoon, we joined another group who are descending Mount Hamiguitan and Governor Generoso as their exit point. We are excited because we will be like traversing the slope. My group where we joined summiting were staying for another night at Camp3. Carl and I started descending with another group who we already knew - The Sandawa Pro-Ecology Great outdoor (SPEGO) headed by Lyndon Sumaoy at around 12 noon.

http://img266.imageshack.us/img266/743/92741909jb5.png (http://imageshack.us)
Twin falls …

We arrived at Camp 2 almost 4pm and arrived at Camp 1 at around 6pm. the trek is very tiring since most of the time we are descending, and I can’t count how many times we’ve crossed the same river… it was a great experience hearing the flow of the gushing water from the river. - Not having hard time finding water to take. =)

We reached Camp1 at 6:00pm also known as Balonggo, We lit our lights at an empty house - half cemented and half wood. It was believed that in the 1980’s this camp is a village composed of about 30 families but were massacred by the armies because they are supporters of reds. - No formal or concrete evidence.

Right after we cooked our evening meal and pitched our tents. We dipped into the river and relaxed … what a great experience again although, I’ve done that before but it was great!

In the morning of November 3, Saturday I woke up 5am I ran into the river and weeeh! great ! heheheh - I feel like I am living in a free world - coz I’m naked bathing at the river… ^_^ I walked around the place and I see remnants of old houses scattered on every part of the hillside and I see big rocks being aligned as if there were inhabitants before dwelling in this area… Its like on the NatGeo and old city were traces of old buildings can be seen… but this, just a pile of rocks just 2-3 feet serving as a boundary of each spaces…

We started trekking at around 10am and the path is almost the same as yesterday but with less uphill… all are flat and some river treks and river cross… as hours passed by, I already see some villagers at their small houses at Purok 8 Barangay Sergio Osmena, Gov. Generoso. As we were walking I see this young girl of about 7 to 8 years old following us for a while … and We asked “where are you heading and why you are following us..” she replied “Gisugo ko sa akong mama palit sardinas” (Do errand to buy canned sardines) and we asked again “Where is this store? how far is it? coz it seemed you’ve been tailing at us for about 10 minutes… “ she just replied by pouting her upper and lower lips pointing to a direction where the store is.

We continued trekking and still the young kid is still tailing at us she don’t want to move forward and head a walk from us… Imagine buying a can of sardines would take this young girl(all villagers) to walked for almost 2 kilometers…

I also see kids at young age all naked running on the side of the river and I sighed hope life is like this again… I see in them how people lived way before there are no sophisticated cellphones… no cars, electricity… no bills to pay.. hehe just simple living.

We arrived at Sitio Badiang, Purok 7, Barangay Sergio Osmena, Gov.Generoso at around 1pm. and continued walking to Purok 4 where we negotiated a ride going to Poblacion Tibanban. We Arrived at Davao City at 6pm.

Mt. Hamiguitan a protected area through the “Mt. Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary Act of 2001″. Mount Hamiguitan is a favorite camping site of many local and foreign tourists, mountaineering enthusiasts, biologists, orniterologists and plain adventure-seeking people.

A regular organized climb is being conducted by the Local Government every 2nd week of May.
My adventure is over now… when will I have another time bonding with mother nature…

Now get back to work!

Thanks to Carl my climbing buddy for providing this shots. Thanks tol!

Yan ba yung starting point from don panaca, magpet ? iyong may waterfalls ?

actually brgy ilomavis is now accessible even by car. so mas madali na talaga ang umakyat sa apo.

the route I took traverses the pnoc geothermal reservation. mas madaya iyon kasi it's higher up pa than ilomavis :)

the native forest rangers (who also sideline as guides and porters) can scale apo and go down in a single day ! and they're laden pa with supplies.

Magpet is a town of N.Cotabato we plied a jeep going to Ilomavis then to hot spring Agco then to Marbol river( nakalimutan ko na kung Marbol or Agco mauna), don't know where don Panaca baka nadaanan namin di ko lang natandaan.

You probably traversed the marbel river route to apo. agco lake is a bit further up so you must have backtracked after sightseeing in agco to start your trek to apo via the marbel river.

My daya route is further up. I only crossed marbel river, i did not need to travel its length.

I'm more into 4x4s now. It's not as physically demanding for potbellied midlifers . trailing na lang tayo :)

mga ilang ft. na ba sa PNOC ?

the mountaineering mortals, if they're lucky, usually start climbing at point 6. we privileged :) ones started our ascent at point 9B, or PNOC Site C. Site C is the location of a geothermal steamwell, that's why you need a special permit from the pnoc manager to start the climb from there.

http://img256.imageshack.us/img256/5797/gapotmappa8.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

check out the link for the waypoint descriptions.
http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/3712/gapotmap.html

a correction on their place descriptions - Ginatilan is a barangay, not a town.

we did not even have to cross marbel river or lake venado in our ascent. In our descent however, we used the lake venado route, and crossed marbel once.

It'll be clearer when I post the pic of the pnoc geothermal plant I took from the apo peak.

agco is a small lake. I'd even say it's a mere pond. the water is very hot though, enough to scald you. they built a small concrete pool there with the hot water mixing with cold water from another source through sluice gates. you can control the "hotness" of the pool water by adjusting the sluice gates.

since the water in the pool is warm, its kinda slimy and green. that's why I didn't bathe in it.

I'm seriously considering doing apo again. will start running laps again tomorrow. Kita-kita tayo sa peak.

Am planning on arriving at Davao then to kidapawan on good friday (cheapest air fares for holy week is on this day), attacking the peak on saturday, rest/socialization at the peak till sunday morning, down to lake venado sunday afternoon, rest/party at venado lake on sunday, down to kidapawan after lunch of monday. Davao on tues for further partying.

What say you guys, kitakita tayo sa peak on sabado-santo and lake venado on easter ? I'll bring wild pig adobo for you fellas :)

(hindi endangered are wild pig sa cotabato, ha. hindi bawal sa nativo ang mag-trap nito :))

This is my 4x4 rig in cotabato. It won't f*cking start ! I brought along new bern/ackley ignition wires, and will be replacing the fuel filter. kapag hindi pa rin umi-start, palagay ko fried na talaga ang computer.

But if it runs tomorrow, i'll be bringing it to davao on saturday for alignment and new MTs. i also brought cam adjusting bolts that i hope davao mechanics will know how to use.

biggest expense ang tires. eventually though you can easily run through 300-500k worth of mods without you noticing it
