The first european settlers were the Portuguese sailors. Beginning in the sixteenth century, Makassar was the dominant trading/pao center of eastern Indonesia, and soon became one of the largest cities in Indonesia.

The city is southern Sulawesi's primary port, with regular domestic and international shipping connections. It is nationally famous as an important port of call for the pinisi boats, sailing ships which are among the last in use for regular long-distance trade.

The article reported that the Chinese government plans to open a consulate-general in Makassar. The plan reflects the considerable amount of trade and investment co-operation taking place in the area. The Business and Economic Councillor at the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta, Fanq Qiuchen said that the existence of a consulate-general would assist greatly with co-operation between China and areas in Sulawesi.

Qiuchen offered a number of co-operation projects during a meeting with management from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (Kadin) South Sulawesi office - including Deputy Head, Razak Djalle; Head of the Foreign Department Erwin Aksa; Head of the Mining and Energy Department Ridwan Djabir Patiwiri and member of Kadin's Advisory Council Baharuddin Selleng. Qiuchen also promised to push for Chinese investment in South Sulawesi and to ensure that infrastructure, especially in the farming sector, was developed.

The article reported that Chinese investors and Bosowa Energy had successfully entered into a 200m US-dollar 250 MW power station project which would be located at Punagaya Village, Bangkala District and would be operational by the end of 2009.

Trans Studio Makassar Terbesar Kedua Setelah Dubai

Makassar, Tribun - Trans Studio Makassar (TSM) bakal menjadi kawasan wisata terpadu terbesar sesudah kawasan wisata di Dubai Uni Emirat Arab. Studio ini tercatat sebagai kawasan wisata termegah dan terbesar di Asia Tenggara.

Direktur Para Group, Chairal Tanjung mengungkapkan hal ini, Jumat (21/9), saat mendampingi Gubernur Sulsel, Amin Syam menyaksikan maket TSM di Jl Tanjung Bunga sebelum Mal GTC.

TSM juga akan menyediakan mono train yang pertama di Indonesia. Sementara lokasi Family Entertainment Center (FEC) akan menyerupai Disneyland yang akan menghadirkan 23 jenis permainan fantastik.

Direktur TSM, Wibowo Iman Sumantri menjelaskan, TSM menghabiskan investasi sebesar Rp 1 triliun. Tahap awal akan dibangun Trans Studio dan Trans Walk di atas lahan seluas 110 ribu m2. Namun semua akan dibangun secara bersamaan yang akan diprediksi soft opening rampung di bulan April 2009.

Sementara grand opening dimulai 20 Mei tahun 2009. Wibowo mengaku 50 persen lokasi Trans Studio dan Trans Walk sudah diminati pengusaha lokal dan nasional. Ia menambahkan TSM dapat menampung lebih dari 2700 kendaraan dan menjadi lokasi parkir termegah dan terbesar di Indonesia dan Asia Tenggara.

Kepemilikan TSM akan dikelola Para Group dan Kalla Group. Dimana kepemilikan saham seimbang. Namun ia mengaku, Kalla Group memiliki saham fissik tanah 40 persen. Jika TSM rampung maka kedua pihak akan menambahkan lagi modal.

Selain itu dari investasi Rp 1 triliun dimana 50 persen merupakan pinjaman perbankan dan pihak asing. Sisanya investasi dari pemegang saham dalam bentuk pembangunan fisik.

It seems like the model of the high rise in display from the image above is slightly different from the image below. :ohno:

Alauddin University (UIN Makassar) started its project in December 2008. The project consists of 10 buildings, four floors each, at Samata (second campus) and a seven floor building at first campus. Samata campus sits on a 32 hectares property and it will be expanded to 40 hectares. The contractor for this project is PP which is scheduled to finish this project within 14 months.

Accor to develop 21 Indonesian hotels

Accor has announced the further expansion of its network in Indonesia with 21 new hotels. These new hotels will be distributed across the archipelago and will add 4,526 new rooms to the European hotel company’s Indonesian hotel network. The new properties will expand Accor’s Indonesian portfolio to 74 hotels, including 40 existing hotels and 13 previously announced properties which are currently in various stages of construction.

Michael Issenberg, Chairman and Chief Operating Officer for Accor Asia Pacific said during a press conference in Jakarta; “The Indonesian economy continues to grow and benefiting from this growth is increased business travel and tourism volumes. Accor with its extensive and diversified Indonesian network is capitalising on our strong brand recognition and significant resources that we have in the country in leveraging our expansion.”

During 2011, Accor will open seven additional hotels, taking the network to 47 hotels by year end. Beyond this an additional 10 hotels of the committed hotels will open in 2012.

The 21 hotels announced today are the 316-room Pullman Jakarta Central Park (opening in 2011), 230-room Novotel Jakarta Gajah Mada (2012), 151-room Kuta Beach Heritage (an MGallery hotel, 2012), 604-room ibis Bandung Supermal (2012), 200-room all seasons Bali Nusa Dua (2012), 183-room all seasons Bali Benoa (2012), 180-room Novotel Banjarmasin Airport (2013), 240-room Mercure Palu (2013), 169-room Mercure Serpong Alam Sutera (2013), 200-room ibis Makassar Losari (2013), 198-room ibis Jakarta Senen (2013), 150-room Formule 1 Semarang (2013), 136-room Formule 1 Bali Kuta Sunset Road (2013), 200-room Formule 1 Jakarta Daan Mogot (2013), 186-room Formule 1 Yogyakarta Jend Sudirman (2013), 120-roo all seasons Bali Kuta Dewi Sri (2013), 189-room all seasons Bali Kuta Circle (2013), 196-room all seasons Jakarta Thamrin (2013), 230-room Mercure Pekanbaru (2014), 208-room Novotel Sentul (2014) and the 240-room ibis Jakarta Cawang (2014).

Airport operator to build two hotels

State-run airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) I will build two budget hotels at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya and Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar this year. With an investment of Rp 50 billion (US$5.8 million), the hotels will be operated by Accor, the largest hotel operator in Asia and the Pacific, under the Formule 1 brand. AP I president director Tommy Soetomo said Thursday the project was part of the firm’s five-year expansion plan to provide 1,000 hotel rooms in six airports it operated.

“We handled 49 million passengers in 2010 and expect to maintain double-digit growth in the future, so there is the need for hotels as a main airport facility, similar to world-class airports,” he said after signing a memorandum of understanding with Gerard Guillouet, the vice president of Accor Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. As a hub to destinations in eastern Indonesia, Makassar was an ideal site for a hotel, Tommy said.

He added that non-aeronautical subsidiary PT Angkasa Pura Hotels would develop the hotels, with construction kicking off this year. He said he expected the hotels to be operational in 2012 with a revenue target of Rp 100 billion in three years. AP II will also build hotels at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar and Syamsudin Noor Airport in Banjarmasin, he added.

Tommy said this new development was in line with refurbishments to 13 airports operated by AP I. Earlier, the firm said it had allocated Rp 3 trillion in capital expenditure this year to upgrade airports.

“Formule 1 is very suitable for the market. As we see an increase in domestic flights and visitors, there really is a need for affordable hotel rooms,” Guillet said, adding the room rate would range from Rp 350,000 to Rp 400,000.

Accor Indonesia’s development manager Pamudji Slamet said Accor would manage 282 rooms in the two airports — 152 in Juanda and 130 at Sultan Hasanuddin. Earlier this month, Accor announced plans to open 21 new hotels by 2014 in Indonesia, one of its fastest growing markets in Asia.
