Now that this is Under Construction I thought it desrved it's own thread. 140m tower with a shorter 98m neighbour and two smaller buildings each 8 floors U/C in Canary Wharf, pushing the resi boom in the area along with Pan Peninsula (147m), Baltimore Wharf (131m) and some smaller schemes nearby.

This is also close to the 236m and 186m Riverside South Towers which are active on site.

Thanks for starting the thread! It was about time it had one here. I look forward to seeing this built, should give an extra amount of density in Canary Wharf :)

Rotterdam/Paris?

BTW a nice scheme which should bulk yp the residential half of CW, it really is becoming an island of it's own.

Hadn't even heard of this project! Amazing how a 140m highrise goes almost unnoticed in London these days.

It looks like a nice filler. Got a render of the new deisgn?

Newcastle Guy
September 3rd, 2007, 01:02 AM
The top render is of the new design at 140m, the one below is of the older, 136m design:) I posted the older one because the change isn't that huge, so it still gives a good idea of how the towers will look:)

nice apartment building..i really like the cladding ,looks to be of high quality. Its nice to see that London has some new apartment highrises going up,and i think this one and Pan peninsula tower really look good! lets hope for more apartment highrises in London and Europe generally, but this is definetily a good start.

Canary Wharf's skyline really isn't great, but it's far from pathetic. By European standars it's very good.

And considering there are plans for there to be 40+ 100m+ towers there in under 10 years time, it is going to start looking very impressive, a real mini-manhattan in London to complement the even better City Cluster.

We aren't sure, but the shorter one is nearly done. I'd guess at 23 or 24 floors out of 30.

It should be topped out in a few weeks, and then we can focus on the taller 44 floor one:)

Wow...Canary Wharf is getting very dense! It may not have the most innovative-looking skyscrapers on earth, but it's starting to make up for it with a) density and b) the waterfront location. I'd like to see Canary Wharf get one outstanding supertall, eventually.

But in most American cities with the exception of NY, Chicago and a few others, thats all there is to them.... whilst Canary Wharf is just a tiny part of London.

Unless they close the London City Airport, there wont be any supertall in CW, aviation rules means that a max height rule of upto about 250m is in place.

But even a really slender resi tower closer to the river and around 700ft would totally change Canary Wharf for the better. Most of the blocks at the moment are pretty bulky but something more slender would change the look of the cluster.

For instance the new Norman Foster one which is to be unveiled next week;)

Edit: ^^ Or maybe today!

Im not a big fan of residentails in CW, they are too small. Look at Pan Peninsula, nearly 150m, yet because of the smaller floorplates and ceiling heights, from a distance, it looks almost lost amongst the office towers.

I think it will be better once there are more resi's built. Like that one;)

Just look at how many there are on the cards now. Once the economy starts picking up again, I think we will see lots starting. Wood Wharf should integrate residentials very well.

there are several towers planned within the cluster - most of them of a higher quality design than the current crop - the ones most likely to go ahead at the moment are Riverside South (see the blue and yellow cranes in the foreground of the pics above -and a close up below) - the basement works are well advanced and it has been recently announced that JP Morgan will move their European Headquaters there - 2 towers 236m/189m | 45/37 fl

If you look at the Pic Chest posted, in this year alone a tower just under 200m has gone in for planning, along with an hotel/resi tower of 145m to the right of it with HQW (3 towers up to 200m) having been approved. Also, as mentioned a 209m resi/hotel tower for a site to the right of the picture. As well as the RS towers Chest outlined.

This is pretty much externally complete now. Just the strip of facade left where the lifts have been used.

It's externally complete but I think they are working onf the inside now. I'm sure it won't be long until it's fullt functioning though.
