Name: Buxtons Centre (Phase 1)
Location: Umhlanga Village
Use: Mixed Use (Retail, Office)
Floors: 10
The redevelopment of the existing centre and the development of 2 towers will take place over 2 phases.
The first phase is the redevelopment and expansion of the retail area as well as the addition of a commercial tower block.
Phase 2 will involve the addition of a second tower block on the southern end of the complex (dependant on planning approval likely - between 10 and 20F)
Durbsboi September 3rd, 2007, 09:28 AM holy shit, that is naaice! It will do the area so much more good. I should hate this place before, coz I should get bored there, but this is awesome.
SA BOY September 3rd, 2007, 11:16 AM LOOKS A BIT LIKE A PRISON ME THINKS, gREAT LOCATION AND FANTASTICX OPPOTUNITY TO CREATE A "GATEWAY" PROJECT INTO THE aaahhh fucking caps, into the village
dysan1 September 3rd, 2007, 12:39 PM ^^ i like and think it is a good design. the phase 2 tower will be more of the icon "gateway" structure. and i think the pearls will also prob be the main gateway icon when driving into the village anyway
Durbsboi September 3rd, 2007, 01:44 PM Damn, Dubai must be haven nice prisons if they look anything like this :D
Jakes1 September 3rd, 2007, 02:33 PM a bit ho-hum for me. sleek and elegant, but something about it is just a bit boresville.
dysan1 September 3rd, 2007, 02:47 PM ^^ it might be that the left side of the picture doesnt have much going on. Thats where phase two will rise, so the final result will not as bland down that end
SA BOY September 3rd, 2007, 03:57 PM Damn, Dubai must be haven nice prisons if they look anything like this :D
my last prison was Med C max at Empangani and I was the design manager on it.

Durbsboi September 3rd, 2007, 04:07 PM I think I know the design for that job, PD architects? Or did he do the one in Western Cape :?
Re: this project, looks pretty much like standard EPA
Jakes1 September 3rd, 2007, 04:12 PM Don't get me wrong, its not bad at all. But it seems so, uhm, safe and standard.
dysan1 September 3rd, 2007, 04:32 PM The architects are Michael Tod
joburg September 3rd, 2007, 06:40 PM It's uberly Umhlanga/Melrose Archish. I think it will look better in real life.
Durbsboi September 4th, 2007, 08:55 AM The architects are Michael Tod
Eish, theres a shot in the foot for you, lol
Umhlanga September 4th, 2007, 08:39 PM Not exactly beautiful. But, wow, will this change the place. I can't even recognise the existing building under the new additions.
Umhlanga September 4th, 2007, 10:10 PM By the way, Dysan, do you have any information on parking plans for the expanded centre? As is, parking isn't much of a problem except during the busiest of holiday periods. But with so much new lettable space... If parking isn't increased, shopping at Buxton's will become a real hassle.
There's plenty of room to construct another parkade between the current building and the M4. (Just a thought.)
dysan1 September 4th, 2007, 10:22 PM teh current open air parking is to become a 4F parkade. this will help with the parking needed for the phase 2 resi/office tower
dysan1 September 17th, 2008, 07:48 PM here are some updated renders, with work about to start in the next few months

Durbsboi September 18th, 2008, 08:47 AM cool, this place needs a revamp, when I went to the Jimmys there a few months back it looked okay, but needs this.
SA BOY September 19th, 2008, 03:38 PM not 10F though
dysan1 September 19th, 2008, 04:09 PM yeh its shorter now
Durbsboi February 15th, 2012, 10:01 AM I got good news and bad news regarding this one.
Good News: They're going ahead with a revamp.
Bad News: Its just a revamp, no extention, no fancy stuff. The interior shops will get a shuffle and complete revamps as well as the passage.
dysan1 February 15th, 2012, 11:55 AM waste of this prime space then
