As well as all the potential areas i listed earlier I found another big on today... so... i'm gonna post the list I posted earlier here... and post the other in a sec....

I walked past that corner in the last photo today and the whole side of the building was covered in scaffolding. Maybe there planning a refurb or just giving it a clean.
I agree with you though those buildings do look pretty awful.

Now... i'm sure this is where the maiden lane thing is going to be...

Right across the road from that I saw this and had to take a pic... i've made a few panaramas to show how big the site is...they didn't come out to well but who cares...

This site here is huge!! there is space for developing, refurbing and redeveloping all at the same time!!... And guess who's in control... good old Bildurn :D :D

Directly across from the NIC... just think how great this area could be in due time??

I've seen that site many times before as I have friends who live in an apartment on that street.
IMO that area would look brilliant with a tall building due to it's elevated position. There are a few little hidden sites that I've found around there. There is another one on the next street down behind the other apartments near the corner. I used to have a friend that lived there and you get a clear view from the carpark.

The Bildurn Site on Barker Gate is listed (I think its called St Mary's School Rooms) so it wont be going. I always thought it would be a great building for a boutique hotel being so close to the Arena. I know Malmaison have been looking in Nottingham but I guess this would be too small for them. Maybe you can suggest it to your friends at Bildurn though Danz?!

The amusement arcade on Fletchergate is owned by Bildurn too. They want to move the arcade to the forme Fat Face unit on Pelham Street and have a restaurant here. This must involve some cosmetic improvements but Im not sure whether thats what the scaffolding is about. That building used to be fantastic but it was masacred when they widened Fletcher Gate in the 60s or 70s.

Yes. I think there was an approved planning application for it quite some time ago (five years or so), which obviously never progressed.

The building that also strikes me as bizarrely undeveloped when I drive past is:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1116/1325316326_92c468a8ff_b.jpg

the one on the left on this photo. All the other buildings on that side of the street are either offices or apartments. It's directly opposite the Ice Arena. yet for years and years and years it has been boarded up with that To let sign on it, whilst the whole area around it has changed. Bizarre.

Meanwhile, whilst we're talking about this corner. Is the all turning scuplture ever going to be fixed (i.e. start turning again)? Is the low level glass sculputure ever going to be replaced? Are the prospective restaurants at the base of the Ice House ever going to be let? And who the hell allowed the green cable boxes to be situated on Bolero Sqaure, ruining the open aspect of it??

Problem is the contact I have at Bildurn isn't actually Bildurn. Its a publicity company that Bildurn use to handle all of their public affairs. I'm going to see her tomorrow to views Bildurns two construction sites so maybe she might be able to pass on some messages? I dunno...

Re the arcade. I really don't like the view as it is. I think it looks under developed. Lac of windows, different levels in the the buildings.

Furry...is Maiden lane development at the bushes or is it right there at the Building Binge is on about.

No its the two story 50s type warehouse behind the bushes. The building on the corner is a weird one. Im not suprised no one wants to let it when its not maintained properly, the building needs a good spruce up. Its maybe that its another listed building that the owners are letting go to ruin so they can redevelop (in this instance this should NOT be allowed). The other strange thing is that they redid the forecourt area facing Bellar Gate to provide some car parking to the building about 18 months ago. It doesnt seem to have helped them let it but again its strange they would invest in that but not the building itself which looks uninhabitable.

I mean the ones in Bolero Square.

The tall pointy metallic one is a Wolfgang Buttress one (he's the Wolf in Wolf heron). It used to turn gently. Haven't seen it do that for a while.

The low glass one used to sit on the wall that runs across Bolero Square. It had impressions of ice crystals and snowflakes in it. I thnk something hit it at onepoint and the shattered galss was taken away. Then all the rest of the glass was taken away. And it never came back. Now the Ice Centre park their little Smart cars by the wall.

oh yeah, I know what you mean. I can't remember it turning... i never really used to go around there to much.. i'm not the best ice skater...

The glass ice crystal thing your talking about sounds really impressive, but again I can't remember it. I would love to see that. From what your saying though it dosn't seem like its coming back... when did it go?

I remember the glass sort of "blade" thing that used to run along. It was lit up from the bottom aswell through the glass I think.
It's a shame it's gone it looked really nice.

Hockley is the northern side of the Lace Market.....think of it as the Greater Lace Market!

The estate agents tried to market Hockley as Hockley Village for a couple of years didn't they? That seems to have fizzled out!

I'd never refer to it as hockley village myself, it's just hockley - why would you make a name longer?! However, it does still exist as Hockley village in at least two places:

and here: http://www.hockleyvillage.co.uk

I've never known it to be anything else other than Hockley. I also think it'd make more sense renaming Carlton Street and Goose Gate as Hockley too, as when ever I refer to that part of town, people recognise it more as Hockley then Goose Gate or it's surrounding streets.

If you were to ask people on the street of Nottm whereabouts Ice Nine was for example, they'd more often than not say 'Hockley'. :)

I've always seen hockly and lace market as the same thing... but I know hockly as a specific part of it? Or the entire north side if that makes sense lol.

theres quite a few developments in planning for the area too. The area is already so nice but it has so much potential:

2 Bildurns Sites (One near ice arena, other near LMSQ)
Lace Market Square
Maiden Lane

Then there are also loads of potential rennovations. Look at all the pics I Posted above on the previous page.

The official road Hockley is the street North of the Ice Arena that the Eastside&City 'shop'/office is on, if you know the one I mean. It open to traffic and between Parliament Street and Huntingdon Street. It has a drum shop on it and 'Bunker's Hill' pub. Its short. I can't explain it any better, I'm afraid! I have always thought it's stupid that this is 'hockley' because no one would know until they look on the A-Z, because Hockley is an area around goose gate and carlton road. I'm glad they've never renamed the road though - I think Goose Gate has such a sense of history in the name and it's great! Really reminds you of Nottingham's goose fair heritage!

There was another interesting development on the maber site. It was called "The Loop" or something like that and was situated near Broadway I think.

Do you mean 'the loom' on woolpack lane, just off stoney street? I think that's what it was called. I think it's the site of an ugly 60's building just next to one of the early LMP developments (the one with the green space behind it). Was that one on the old thread? I think it might have been.

I've always seen hockly and lace market as the same thing.

It's clear where the Lace Market is, though - it's very specifically the area where lace was maufactured and traded. It has a distinct boundary and architecture - those tall Victorian warehouses and factories, and later additions. It's also distinct from Hockley in, until recently, being a maufacturing and industrial area rather than retail or leisure. Twenty years ago when I came to Nottingham, there was the odd pub and restaurant and graphic designers there, but mostly it was still a textile manifacturing district.

The Lace Market is bounded by Fletcher Gate, High Pavement, Goosegate and Belward Street . The Old Angel is in the Lace Market, Ice Nine isn't. The Arena isn't, CCAN is.

The area just to the north, between Goosegate and Parliament Street, is Hockley. Broadway and Brownes are not in the Lace Market. The main thoroughfare of Hockley is Goosegate, even though Goosegate extends over Parliament Street to become... "Hockley".
