Chi-town July 28th, 2003, 09:33 PM An Art Deco masterpiece 9.5/10
some info/pics...
- An 81-foot aluminum statue of Ceres, the Roman goddess of agriculture, stands on top of the roof.
- With the Ceres statue included, this is the tallest art deco building in the world outside of New York City.
- The trading floors have a free visitors' gallery on the fifth floor.
- The lobby features a variety of art deco floor designs, including a pattern with airplanes, steamships, & submarines in the basement.
- The Chicago Board of Trade was the tallest building in Chicago from 1930 to 1965.
- The CBOT is the largest commodities exchange in the world.

freson August 2nd, 2003, 04:39 PM not a mastper piece of the ARt decó, I Don't know why there is something wrong with that buidling
Mauser August 10th, 2003, 04:33 PM Nice One 10/10
UrbanLandscape August 10th, 2003, 11:15 PM I don't think there's anything wrong with it, but that phrase, "I Don't know why there is something wrong with," scares the crap out of me. Anyway, I heard that the CBOE uses as much power as the John Hancock Tower...true or false? I just read it somewhere, I want to know if I read correctly. Anyway, I love watching the floor of the CBOE more than anywhere else. After all, what other trading floor in North America gets preiodic fist fights and has such a mass of colors, gestures, and is so loud? I love it! 9.0/10 (nees some cleaning)
Okay, there is one problem, but it has to do with the street leading up to it...the buildings on either side in front of it on the street are not at equal distances, making the CBOE appear to be off center. AAAAAAAUUUUUGGHHHHH!!!!! I'm O/C, a perfectionist! I can't stand that! Help me!

This is what a skyscraper should be.
Wisma August 22nd, 2003, 04:26 PM 8/10 awesome tower but not slender enough for a 9/10

ChgoLvr83 September 27th, 2004, 12:59 AM I remember hearing on the Chicago River Architecture Tour that the fact it looks like a chair was done deliberately. Because of the developers/owners distaste for New York City, the building including the statue's back face the big city on the east coast.
SChristopher October 22nd, 2004, 11:24 PM I like it alot...and the story to go with it :)
SChristopher October 22nd, 2004, 11:25 PM oops I forgot to say 10/10

DRAKKO June 3rd, 2005, 04:46 AM 7/10
wrabbit July 15th, 2005, 01:54 AM I like this building alot - it has a real importance to it, especially in the way it caps the view down LaSalle (you see this in NYC also - the old PanAm Bldg. on Park Ave - but the LaSalle effect is more powerful IMHO).
The curb of LaSalle steps in at two points as it heads towards the BoTrade, to create the forced perspective of even greater depth & height - pretty neat, huh?

Has been a great backdrop in a lot of movies, most recently posing as the building for Wayne Enterprises in Batman Begins. It just doesn't get any better than LaSalle Street.
AtlanticaC5 July 11th, 2006, 08:51 PM 8.5/10 Grand old building, not a pure 10 but it's really nice
gutooo September 9th, 2006, 04:40 AM 9/10
creil November 21st, 2006, 07:52 AM I remember hearing on the Chicago River Architecture Tour that the fact it looks like a chair was done deliberately. Because of the developers/owners distaste for New York City, the building including the statue's back face the big city on the east coast.
Actually, it was the Civic Opera Building. The man who had it built had a daughter who went to NYC to sing opera. She was horrible and they let her know it. When she came back to Chicago, daddy built her the Opera House. It was built like a throne with it's back to NYC so when he died, he could sit on his throne and never have to look at New York.
I guess there could be a similar story for CBOT.
ZZ-II November 22nd, 2006, 11:42 PM massive 8/10
