"Pagtunton or tunton" tomorrow. Had fond memories during Easter because my 2 sis had been little angels. Before it was being held at Plaza Rizal until such time a "tuntunan" was built inside the cathedral grounds. We would stole flowers along Barlin and P. Diaz street near Roco residence..hehehe..to be used as "pangsigwag" of my sis during the "tuntun"

I myself also played small roles during alleluia, together with the Naga Central choir we were stationed scattered inside the cathedral grounds to sing Alleluia.

The whole days of holy week is not a rest and play time for us kids instead we practice and devour...hehehe...multitude of snacks served to us by the cathedral staff.

these doctorates are honorary (although they give the awardee the same privileges as the one who earned the degree through years of formal studies) and can be given to those who have given significant contribution to a particular field.

i guess it's given to LRV for his role in CBSUA's university status (which, in a way, becomes his contribution to the development of the agri sciences).

someone awarded an honorary degree in law (Doctor of Laws) doesn't have to be a lawyer or have a background in the legal sciences.

That is one of the oldest saints in the Naga Cathedral Procession. The same thing with the Virgin Mary, St. Peter and the Tres Marias.

My family decided to go to Buhi (my mom's hometown) for an outing at Pongol, Antipolo, Buhi Camarines Sur. At Barangay Antipolo there are three spring resorts that you can choose from, namely:
1. Pongol
2. La Presco

All the four are fresh running water. This means that it's free flowing that it seems there's no shortage of water.

The people of Antipolo tried to let the local tourists pay for the water usage (sort of an entrance fee), but according to the old people there, when they started to ask for fees, the water level decreased and they believed that it's sort of a natures call to the locals to let others enjoy the fresh water. Since then there were no entrance fee or swimming fees collected, what we paid for were the cottages that we used. The "pool" was made by the effort of the local government unit. Pongol is also the place where Mayor Lacoste's project on Potable Drinking Water have been realized for the locals of Antipolo.

These spring resorts are somehow still untouched and secluded. The dusty ride will welcome you as you pass by other barangays. Antipolo is quite a highland and there were a lot of rice terraces look alike in the place.

4 Bicol provinces in ‘10 worst in governance’ list
And yet their governors get re-elected
By Juan Escandor Jr.

LEGAZPI CITY --- The National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB), the government arm that measures economic, administrative and demographical perform-ances, has listed four provinces in Bicol as among the 10 worst in governance in 2005.

The NSCB’s 2005 survey, conducted in collaboration with the Human Development Network, measured the good governance index (GGI) of 79 provinces all over the country which includes aspects of economic, political and administrative governance.

The GGI aims to provide “voters’ index to assess whether good governance principles are advocated not only on paper but in fact are put into actual practice, i.e. whether, using the results of the 2007 elections, the voters used performance as basis in the choice of their leaders.”

Dr. Romulo Virola, secretary general of the NSCB, explained in an abstract: “The statistics on the chartered cities which are financially and administratively independent from the provinces had also been excluded from the computations of the GGI for the province to enhance the validity of the GGI as a measure of performance of the governor.”

Virola was here Saturday in a sharing session with selected journalists regarding indicators of millennium development goals (MDG) of the United Nations targeted for accomplishment in 2015.

The most recent survey of the NSCB on GGI, after the first survey in 2003, ranked Camarines Sur, Masbate, Albay and Camarines Norte in the 10 worst provinces in GGI. Likewise, the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao Del Norte, Zamboanga Del Sur, Surigao Del Sur and Zamboanga Sibugay were among the provinces worst governed.

Virola emphasized the situation at present could be different since some of the incumbent governors in the 2003 and 2005 survey had been defeated even as others were reelected.

The NSCB produces an overall ranking of the provinces based on the Human Development Index (HDI) developed by the United Nations Development Programme which integrated ranking of the provinces in the aspects of economic, political and administrative governance.

Ranked in the 10 best governed provinces in the Philippines based on the GGI of 2005 are the provinces of Batanes, Rizal, Benguet, Siquijor, Bulacan, Apayao, Laguna, Cavite, Nueva Vizcaya and Pampanga.

Comparing the provinces’ GGI of 2005 with the results of the 2007 elections, it showed that three of the governors of 10 best governed provinces in the Philippines lost in the gubernatorial race while “eight of the worst still won.”

On one hand, the governors of Batanes, Benguet and Pampanga whose provinces were classified in the 10 best governed in 2005 lost in the 2007 elections, according to the comparative data of the NSCB.

On the other hand, the governors of Maguinadanao, Camarines Sur, Masbate, Camarines Norte, Surigao Del Sur, Zambaonga Del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay and Lanao Del Norte, whose provinces were classified in the 10 worst governed provinces in 2005, were reelected in the 2007 elections.



I have some doubts over this report... parang di ako makapaniwala... AFAIK, Salceda and Villafuerte are highly decorated governors of the country... they wouldn't be awarded as such if they do bad governance...

And it wasn't even a study. It was a survey! No need to worry about that. Out of about 6M people in Bicol, how many have they asked? 1K? Where did they perform the survey? In the uber rural areas where there's no proper access to education, government facilities, water, electricity? That study is dubious.

One thing, I love or hate during campaign period. Everybody are trying to investigate each other and get all the information they can. Daog pa ang N.B.I.very very resourceful, but when they are already in the position, they can't find any solution to a basic problem :lol::lol:

i think bulacan (forgot what town) holds the record of having the longest good fri procession with about a hundred carrozas in line. as some observers there would say, Christ's every wink, every move, every tear is featured! :) actually went to the place in 2002 and saw the spectacle. we had to go ahead of the procession and walk to every carroza to make the most of time!

"Pagtunton or tunton" tomorrow. Had fond memories during Easter because my 2 sis had been little angels. Before it was being held at Plaza Rizal until such time a "tuntunan" was built inside the cathedral grounds. We would stole flowers along Barlin and P. Diaz street near Roco residence..hehehe..to be used as "pangsigwag" of my sis during the "tuntun"

I myself also played small roles during alleluia, together with the Naga Central choir we were stationed scattered inside the cathedral grounds to sing Alleluia.

The whole days of holy week is not a rest and play time for us kids instead we practice and devour...hehehe...multitude of snacks served to us by the cathedral staff.

MANILA, Philippines - Dethroned 2010 Binibining Pilipinas-Universe Maria Venus Raj on Sunday vowed to question the decision of the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) to strip her of her crown due to "inconsistencies" in her birth records.

During her live interview on "The Buzz," an emotional Raj maintained that the officials of the BPCI knew from the very beginning the incorrect entries in her birth certificate, and that the inconsistencies were not her fault. She said she was transparent about her background during the screening of candidates.

The beauty queen from Camarines Sur said up until now she is clueless why she was stripped of her title. She said she is ready to fight for her crown.

Below is Raj's full interview with "The Buzz" host Boy Abunda.

Boy: Kanina off cam, nag-uusap tayo sinabi mo ilalaban mo ito dahil pagkatao mo na ang nakataya. Sa lahat ng naisulat, sa lahat ng nasabi saan ka napipikon?

Venus: Ang sobrang sakit lang po sa akin 'yong sinasabi nila I am disqualified kasi I am born out of wedlock and then hindi ako qualified sa Ms Universe dahil sa hindi ako pinanganak dito sa Pilipinas. At kung may inconsistencies naman po, sa tingin ko hindi ko po kasalanan 'yon dahil wala po akong kasalanan sa kung ano man po ang nangyayari.

Boy: So, ipaglalaban mo ang korona mo?

Venus: Of course.

Boy: At pupunta kayo sa courts of law para ipaglaban ang iyong korona na pinaghirapan?

Venus: Pinaghirapan po, sobra.

Boy: Kasi hindi na-mention ng Binibining Pilipinas Charities 'yong sinabi mo ngayon na you were born out of wedlock. Deretsahang tanong, ano ba ang totoo?

Venus: Totoo po na hindi po kinasal ang tatay ko at nanay ko; na pinanganak ako sa Doha, Qatar at dinala po ako dito siguro mga 1 month old pa lang ako. At dito ako pinabinyagan ng aking mga magulang. So, 'yon po ang katotohanan na kahit minsan hindi ko po tinago.

Screening, sinabi ko na po 'yon sa kanila. Nagpapakilala po ako. Sinasabi ko na I am Maria Venus Raj. I was born in Doha, Qatar but I was raised here in the Philippines. And then, may one-on-one interview, sinasabi ko rin po ito.

Sa isa ngang interview, sinabi sa akin nang nag-interview, 'So what is is so special being born abroad?' So, para sa akin wala pong problema at alam ko po from the very beginning alam po nila ito.

Boy: So, bakit nila ginagawang dahilan ito? Would you know why?

Venus: Actually, hindi ko po din maintidihan kung bakit.

Boy: Doon sa statement ng Binibining Pilipinas na sinasabing sa iyong birth certifcate sa CamSur ka pinanganak at hindi sa Doha, Qatar. So, what's the truth? That is one inconsistency. How do you explain that?

Venus: Ang totoo po talaga pinanganak ako sa Doha, Qatar pero ang nakalagay po sa birth certificate ko San Vicente, Bato, Camarines Sur. Nahawakan ko po ang aking birth certificate siguro high school na po ako,'yong mag-a-apply ako ng scholarship... noong ako ay magfi-first year college.

Boy: So, you have nothing to do with the inconsistency?

Venus: Exactly.

Boy: Were you aware of the inconsistency when you joined Bb Pilipinas na nakalagay doon sa birth certificate mo CamSur samantalang sa Doha ka pinanganak?

Venus: Yes, I am aware and I am telling them from the very beginning.

Boy: Didn't you correct the inconsistency?

Venus: Sir Boy, kung kayo ang nasa kalagayan namin, mahirap kaming pamilya. Kung kayo ba ang nanay ko at ang iniisip mo lang 'yong papakain mo sa mga anak mo, iisipin niyo pa ba na ipaayos ang mga dokumentong ito para pag-join niya... hindi naman namin alam ng nanay ko na sasali ako sa ganitong pageant?

So, kung nandoon ka sa sitwasyon na 'yon, hindi mo iisipin na ipaayos 'yong dokumento. Iisipin mo 'yong pampakain sa mga anak mo.

Boy: At hindi mo rin naisip na ito ang magiging dahilan kung bakit ka matatanggal sa Bb Pilipinas. I'm hearing for the first time you were born out of wedlock. Bawal ba sa Bb Pilipinas rules?

Venus: I don't know. Wala pong nakalagay sa rules ng Ms Universe or kung saan man na kapag pinanganak ka out of wedlock...

Boy: Na hindi ka pwedeng maging beauty queen?

Venus: Totoo.

Boy: What about your father? He's an Indian national.

Venus: Yes, he is.

Boy: So, hindi siya taga-dito sa Pilipinas?

Venus: Hindi po.

Boy: According sa iyong birth certificate, Catholic Indian ang iyong ama.

Venus: Ang totoo po ang tita ko po ang nagpa-register sa akin noong bata ako, 3 years after [my birthday]. Ang nanay ko nahihiya siya ng mga panahon na iyon na lumabas at magpa-register sa akin kasi chini-chismisan siya ng mga tao na nasa paligid niya. So, ang tita ko ang nagpa-register sa akin. And hindi alam ng nanay ko na 'yon ang information na sinabi ng tita ko.

Kung meron mang pagkakamali, hindi kasalanan ng nanay ko at hindi ko rin po kasalanan.

Boy: Naiintindihan kita. My father was born out of wedlock. At alam ko ang pinagdadaanan ng mga taong anak sa labas sa probinsiya. Ang tawag sa kanila, forgive me mga kaibigan, ay anak sa pagka-bastardo. So, alam ko ang ibig sabihin noon. So, right now given where you are, ano ang mga gagawin mo? Galit ka ba sa Bb Pilipinas?

Venus: Hindi po ako nagagalit sa kanila. Ang akin lang po sana linawin lang nila kung ano ang reason nila sa pag-dethrone sa akin kasi hindi po malinaw. At alam ko na nakapasa ako sa kung anumang qualification na meron sila. At siguro from the very beginning, sana sinabi na nila sa akin para hindi na po ako umasa.

Boy: So, doon sa sinasabi nilang inconsistency sa iyong birth certificate bilang dahilan ng pagka-dethrone mo, hindi mo tanggap 'yon?

Venus: Hindi po.

Boy: Dahil ang pakiramdam mo sinabi mo ang totoo?

Venus: Totoo po. Hindi ako nagtago sa kanila, hindi ako nagsinungaling sa kanila. From the very beginning, may mga video na magpapatunay na sinasabi ko ito noon pa lang.

Boy: Kumunsulta ka na ngayon sa mga abogado? You're going to the courts of law para ilaban na you deserve the crown?

Venus: Yes. I know I deserve the crown at wala akong nakikita na dapat i-disqualify nila ako for that.

Boy: Venus, final words. Ano ang nais mong sabihin sa iyong ina, sa iyong ama, sa lahat ng mga tao na na-involve dito?

Venus: Unang una po sa mga magulang ko, hindi ko po sila sinisisi sa kung anuman ang nangyayari sa akin ngayon. Alam ko na hindi nila 'yon kasalanan, at hindi ko 'yon kasalanan.

Boy: Do you still see your dad?

Venus: No, actually hindi ko na po nakita 'yong tatay ko mula po noong pinanganak ako.

Boy: So, you have no contact with your father?

Venus: Wala po.

Boy: Pero wala kang kinakargang galit?

Venus. Wala po. Pasalamat po ako at buhay ako ngayon.

Venus: Unang una sa family ko, kahit ganito ang nangyayari ngayon, nagpapasalamat ako at nandiyan pa din sila at gumagabay sa akin.

At sa Bb Pilipinas po, ang akin lang sana ipaliwanag lang ng maayos. I-clear sa akin kasi hanggang ngayon hindi ko alam kung ano ang main reason ng pagde-dethrone nila sa akin. Kasi ang alam ko po I deserve what I got from the very beginning.

49 NPA rebel returnees get livelihood assistance

MANILA, April 4 (PNA) -– A newest batch of 49 former rebel returnees of the New People’s Army (NPA) operating in Negros Occidental and Camarines Sur have availed of the livelihood assistance under the government’s Social Integrated Program (SIP).

The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) which is supervising the program distributed P20,000 in check for each former NPA combat as their immediate cash assistance while their papers are being processed for their reintegration to society.

The largest group of 36 NPA returnees came from Camarines Sur, while 13 others came from Negros Occidental.

No less than President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo distributed the P20,000 immediate cash assistance to the returnees from Camarines Sur while Maria Hope Hererra of OPAPP based in Negros Occidental distributed the checks in Bacolod City last week.

The SIP is designed to help rebel returnees cope with their new life as they are reintegrated into the mainstream of society.

Aside from the P20,000 immediate cash assistance, a former NPA combatant can also avail of the government’s livelihood program that will give them assistance in kind such as a working animal, or a hand tractor, or a sari- sari store and a tricycle to start his/her own small business.

The SIP has been making waves since it was launched in 2008 giving former rebels a chance to change their lives as they go back to the mainstream of society. (PNA)

also part of childhood 'insect memories' are the amamanggi (beetle variety). we would shake branches of the banana plant, and the mambog and mango trees and these insects would fall on the ground.
