Beautification and greening has never been the city's priority.

During the what they call Panaganiban Drive beautification- all they did was to cut trees to give way to the ugly faux brick sidewalks and horrible multi colored lamposts. Take note, the so called beautification was only done on one side of the street. The other side was left as it is. It's like putting a make up on one side of the face and the other side was left unwashed with all the grime and dirt.

Magsaysay Avenue has been booming with restaurants and business but nothing has been done to make the sidewalks pedestrian friendly. There should be a master plan for this area.

The CBD 2 despite the presence of SM City, Hotels and new buildings, nothing has been done. No streetlights, no sidewalks and they could not even finish the road work in most parts of the CBD 2. (Infront of St Joseph, USI. Montana Arcade, Plaza Medica 1; the road between Light house Dormitory and Plaza Medica 2; Beside Mother Seton leading to GMA 7) These are big institutions and the City Hall never see to care.:ohno::ohno:

Maybe that’s what we deserve for voting ubos kung ubos.

^^Yeah, but at least it's been started... Of course, I'm not contented with at least, I want to see a full-blown beautification...I'm hoping for the next mayor to do that. Naga is a major player in tourism and business, it's just right to make it desirable by beautifying and making areas greener and fresher.

Police chief of Camarines Sur town, baby wounded in attack
NAGA CITY – (UPDATE) An unidentified gunman seriously wounded the police chief of Magarao, Camarines Sur and his one-year old baby early morning Wednesday (not Friday as the Inquirer Southern Luzon Bureau initially reported) at the public utility van terminal in Central Business District (CBD) II fronting a popular mall here.

Police Officer 1 Gentolizo Guban, case investigator, in a report, said Chief Inspector Angeles Balla Sr., 48, and his one-year old daughter Angel, suffered gunshot wounds from .45-caliber pistol.

Noel Balla, 25, son to the police chief, said his father was hit in the stomach and left shoulder while his baby sister was hit on her leg.

Noel said Balla was now undergoing operation while Angel has been declared out of danger by doctors.

Witnesses at the crime scene told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that an hour before the incident, two suspects aboard a motorcycle stopped by near the eatery Balla owned at around 5 a.m., with the passenger alighting from the vehicle and shooting the police officer.

They said the gunman hastily went back to the waiting motorcycle and drove away in the direction of the national highway.

Suspicious-looking persons have been asking about the whereabouts of his father several days before the shooting, according to Noel.

He said his father who works as chief of police in Magarao would stay and sleep at the eatery inside the public utility van terminal even as their house was located in a subdivision here.

“He used to do the chores in the morning and babysit my one-year old sister. My mother manages the eatery so they sleep there,” Noel revealed.

Senior Superintendent Jonathan Ablang, acting police provincial director, said they were following closely the attempt on the life of Balla who was a respondent to an election-related administrative case filed by the defeated reelectionist candidate for mayor in his area of assignment in Magarao town.

lets just hope that the new administration has a concrete plan in beautifying and greening our "Maogmang Lugar." SM already started the greening project by planting trees infront of their mall other than that you cannot see a proud sturdy tree(s) within the CBD II proper :ohno:

so i guess, with our group and this thread we are now sharing our WOES and somehow ADDRESS this CRUCIAL MATTER to our newly-elected city officials :)

SM extension is the vacate lot just beside the VAN and FILBCAB terminal. Temporarily it will be used as parking area once the city coliseum open this July.

I'm not so sure about this Gary. AFAIK, AGB Nielsen uses a couple of categories: Mega Manila (MM + adjacent provinces), Urban Luzon, Visayas (?) and Mindanao (?). I'm not again sure with the separate categories of Vis and Min. :D

Noynoy swamped with Cabinet recommendations

MANILA, Philippines - Liberal Party (LP) campaign manager Florencio Abad admitted yesterday that presidential frontrunner Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III has been receiving numerous letters of endorsement and recommendation for possible Cabinet appointments.

Abad said various sectors and groups were calling for the appointment of Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo, a Ramon Magsaysay awardee, to be the secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, along with former agriculture secretary Leonardo Montemayor who is being endorsed to again head the Department of Agriculture.

Abad said Aquino would have the last say on any appointments and the presidential frontrunner had been meeting with a search committee to get the best and the brightest among applicants and those being recommended for top government posts.

He said they would like to ensure that every possible appointee would be scrutinized.

Abad said he was not aware of the others being recommended, although earlier reports said Aquino was asked to retain incumbent Health Secretary Esperanza Cabral.

Abad said he also heard the name of former health secretary Jaime Galvez-Tan but could not confirm other names that have cropped up.

Aquino had earlier said that he would choose people for the Cabinet who would agree with his principles and ideals.

He said the officials should not necessarily be veterans because even young ones could be considered as long as their qualifications fit the job.

Meanwhile, Malacañang welcomed the statement of Aquino about the possibility of retaining some of the incumbent Cabinet members when he assumes office on June 30 as a positive move that would be good for the unity of all Filipinos.

Deputy presidential spokesman Rogelio Peyuan said Aquino’s statement on the issue of retaining certain members of the Arroyo Cabinet showed that he knows how to listen and is open to uniting the nation.

“We will take it as a very good sign, not only for a few members of the current Cabinet, but rather for the sake of the entire Filipino nation,” Peyuan said.

“We will take it as a good gesture that the next president will be a uniting president, the next president will be a healing president and we are praying that the next president of the Republic of the Philippines will be a listening president,” he added.

Malacañang has urged Aquino to focus on unity and reconciliation as among his priorities as the next president and to consider the qualifications and accomplishments of the present batch of government officials when he starts forming his Cabinet.

Aquino has indicated that one of his priorities is to create a commission that would investigate the corruption allegations against President Arroyo.

He has expressed willingness to retain certain members of the Arroyo Cabinet who have no background of irregularities or anomalies.

Among the names that have cropped up are Cabral and Energy Secretary Jose Ibazeta.

A search committee headed by former Civil Service Commission chairperson Karina David has reportedly started screening possible Cabinet members for the Aquino administration.

Peyuan argued that it would be a waste to just remove qualified and dedicated people in the bureaucracy just because they are not allied with the new administration.

He said the wealth of experience of the incumbent officials could be utilized by the next administration.

Peyuan emphasized though that the next president should have a free hand in choosing his Cabinet.

Palace to Noynoy: Don’t rule out qualified kin

Malacañang had also advised Aquino not to rule out the possibility of appointing some of his own relatives to government posts, particularly if they could make a positive contribution.

Deputy presidential spokesman Gary Olivar said Aquino should not use the issue of propriety as the sole reason against a possible role of his relatives in his administration.

Olivar said any leader could be losing an opportunity to have someone highly qualified serving the government just because appointing relatives is frowned upon in our society.

The issue came up after Aquino was advised against appointing his relatives to government posts for the sake of propriety.

“Okay, you avoid the appearance of impropriety but if you don’t give them a position and it turns out that they are very competent and can contribute to public service, you are depriving the public of the services of that person,” Olivar said.

He said nepotism should always be avoided but when it comes to appointing competent relatives, some leeway may be given.

Olivar cited the case of Mrs. Arroyo’s daughter Ma. Lourdes “Luli” Arroyo-Bernas, who topped the foreign service examinations but was not given any post because of her relationship to the President.

In the case of Aquino, there has already been a lot of talk about his sister Kris Aquino being part of the government, particularly because of her background as a high-profile celebrity.

Olivar said Kris could actually contribute to the Aquino administration because she is “a very charming lady, very articulate and can easily lighten the mood of the people.”

“I think there are things she might do but she can do them in an unofficial capacity in order to avoid the problem of nepotism,” he said.

He said the sisters of Aquino could play a significant role in their brother’s life as president considering that he is still unmarried.

^^ Well, they have Robinsons Supermarket at E-Mall and a Robinsons Savings Bank. Those are the only existing RLC projects in Naga/CamSur. There's still no concrete proof that they will be putting up a mall in Naga. Sana.. :)

They once performed during the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (Philippine Chapter) launching and they were very good. Jonalyn I beleive is a Bicolana.

im not sure about the swimming or hiking activities maybe jo or pau can answer... i only know on may 23 sunday the meeting is set at 2pm and the whatta challenge around 4 or 5 pm...

anyways the june 12 or 13 lunch date is just the 4 of us-- you, me , jo and bryan...and its on us...so no worries on the budget...:) kasi nga wala ako this weekend din il be in buhi for our yearly family reunion coinciding with the fiesta...

They once performed during the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (Philippine Chapter) launching and they were very good. Jonalyn I beleive is a Bicolana.

I'm just wondering, how can Party Pilipinas beat ASAP in the rating games when it was already replaced by Party Pilipinas. What happened to Apo Hiking Society noon time show, Sa Linggo nAPO Sila in ABS CBN? Mukhang matagal tagal nang walang pumalit sa timeslot nila.

Naku Doc Sa Linggo nAPO sila was until mid 90's pa po. ASAP, if I'm not mistaken, first aired in 1996...

If my memory serves me right, the "Sa Linggo naPO Sila "program (i remembered Ms Agot Isidro and Ariel Rivera being there) evolved into ASAP which was then hosted by Pops Fernandez , Martin Nievera, Gary V and Zsa Zsa Padilla (plus Ms Dayanarra Torres). This show competed with GMA 7's SOP then which was hosted by Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Janno Gibbs and Lani Misalucha. Away sila parati sa kanilang mga much awaited back to back to back OPM numbers as they call it. Minsan tinatapat pa ng dos at syete ang mga prod numbers na yan.

At present with the surging ratings of ASAP, GMA has to "repackage" SOP and well here comes PArty Pilipinas. Two artists of ABS CBN transferred to GMA namely Mark BAutista and Rachel Ann Go.

The three girls of La Diva are products of the singing contest of GMA entitled " Pinoy Pop Superstar" .

APO HIKING I heard is making a farewell concert at the Music Museum (Greenhills). Why farewell i dont know.

too bad this magazine folded up. it was an excellent showcase of everything bikol. i hope it is revived.

I was able to watch the episode of Executive Class by David Celdran that featured CamSur and my God... you are not only blessed with the best watersport facility but you also have plenty of beautiful beaches and islands. DAvid is actually one of the ANC News anchor/ hosts and Exec Class is a program which he hosts and has lots of features... one time i watched him interview the resto owners/ chefs in Greenbelt areas naman... maybe Intramuros was one of his features that time...

Mga kasabayan nyan nung sa UP were Mike Defensor and Kiko Pangilinan...

Re your hiking/ swimming activities you may want to try out the Lake Buhi Resort or the Twin Falls at Itbug or Pongol then mag hiking na lang sa Mt Isarog as you originally planned...just a suggestion..:)

PANCHO PIANO, ONE OF THE most prolific Bicolano contemporary visual artists, paid tribute to the homegrown devotion of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, or Ina, in a series of paintings on exhibit last month at Naga City’s Avenue Square.

Piano has been in the national art scene since he graduated with a fine arts degree from the University of the Philippines in 1985 under the mentorship of Jose Joya.

To celebrate the mystical year of the homegrown devotion that will turn exactly three centuries in September, the artist composed modern abstracts that make use of line movements depicting converging figures over fluxing strokes of the brush combined with dabbled or whipped acrylic in one stroke.

At close look, Piano showed some spontaneity in delivering minute strokes using brush tip as in calligraphy, with swipes to sustain the movement and variation of the composition.

A confessed devotee of Ina, Piano interprets the devotion to and devotees of the Vatican-decreed Bicol patroness. The exhibit was a collection of his work devoted to Ina since 2005.

A veteran exhibitor in several cities in the Philippines and in Europe, Canada and the United States, Piano says he sees to it that one or two pieces are always devoted to Ina in his shows here and abroad.

In fact, he has done murals and stained-glass compositions regarding the story of Ina and Catholicism in Bicol. These can be glimpsed upon at a kiosk at Naga’s St. John Cathedral and windows and roof of a circular stage in front of Basilica Minore, the home of the image of Ina.

When confronted on the images, he acknowledged that he has hidden Ina in all the art pieces on exhibit, being the centerpiece of his composition.

The image of Ina assumes a triangular outline with the crown of Mother Mary carrying the baby Jesus Christ, the apex, while the flowing “manto” (veil) makes up the length of the base of the triangle.

Piano’s modern abstracts are viewer-friendly because they do not pretend to be abstract for the sake of being abstract but draw the viewer to the color composition with hidden images depicting the devotion to Ina.

The works in acrylic on canvass burst with colors and movements that invoke fiery devotion in shades of white, red, orange and yellow, such as the composition “Voyadores 18”; while piety comes in hues of white, blue and green evident in his “Prosesyon,” which seemed set behind dusk backdrop; or “Sakay,” depicting the fluvial procession or moving cleansing water.

Here is what I remembered. The Apo started as a Sunday noontime show titled Sa Linggo nAPO Sila. Then it metamorphosed into a daily noontime show (meaning Monday to Sunday) to rival Eat Bulaga. It was then called SanLinggo nAPO Sila. Dai ko ini malingwan ta digdi nag-umpisa si Agot Isidro - na crush na crush kan aki kong kangudan when he was still about 5 or 6 years old. :lol:

Now, since ABS-CBN and GMA have regional stations in Bicol, both being in Naga, we will see much better shows than before. I've always been a fan of Bicol TV Patrol. Is GMA Bicol thinking of coming up with a show to rival it?

PANCHO PIANO, ONE OF THE most prolific Bicolano contemporary visual artists, paid tribute to the homegrown devotion of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, or Ina, in a series of paintings on exhibit last month at Naga City’s Avenue Square.

Piano has been in the national art scene since he graduated with a fine arts degree from the University of the Philippines in 1985 under the mentorship of Jose Joya.

beautiful paintings. another local painter (Pinares garo ito si apelyido) also has Penafrancia as a constant theme of his works. the paintings at the Ateneo de Naga University Church have been done by pinares; the sculpture by Barcena.

LONDON (AFP) - – A Scotsman credited with inventing the world's first automatic cash machine has died at the age of 84 after a short illness, his funeral director has said.

John Shepherd-Barron died peacefully in hospital in Inverness, Scotland, on Saturday, said funeral director Alasdair Rhind.

He started thinking about how to obtain cash outside business hours after being locked out of his bank, and the eureka moment came when he was in the bath, the BBC reported.

"It struck me there must be a way I could get my own money, anywhere in the world or the UK," he told the broadcaster in a 2007 interview.

"I hit upon the idea of a chocolate bar dispenser, but replacing chocolate with cash."

Barclays commissioned the invention and the first automatic teller machine (ATM) was installed at a London bank in 1967. It paid out a maximum of 10 pounds a time.

Plastic bank cards had not been invented at the time, so Shepherd-Barron's machine used cheques impregnated with carbon 14, a slightly radioactive substance, according to reports.

After detecting it, the cheque was matched against a PIN (personal identification number).

The inventor played down the health concerns surrounding the radioactive cheques, saying in 2007: "I later worked out you would have to eat 136,000 such cheques for it to have any effect on you."

He had originally wanted a PIN number to comprise six digits but his wife told him she would only be able to remember four.

"Over the kitchen table, she said she would only remember four figures, so because of her, four figures became the world standard," he said.

There are now more than 1.7 million automatic cash machines worldwide, according to the ATM Industry Association.

magkikita kits din tayo pau why not... maybe sa june na rin... alis kasi kami this weekend din for the family reunion dadating uncle ko fro usa dala yung ashes ni aunt who passed away last year...

text me na lang how many peeps will attend the meeting this sunday ... maybe sa sunday na mismo around 2 pm? so the brekkie staff can serve the snacks during the meeting nyo... sang area pala kayo dun? inside kopi roti na lang para di mainit... then you can just transfer to whattataburger around 4pm or 5 pm for the challenge...remind sir ronnie your free iced tea ha the kids may not be aware of it yet...

mako complete din one day ang US GIRLS and GURLS...kasama na si rochelle nyan... i told her to register na and post sa shop and dine camsur thread... busy nasa manila pa yung 2 ... also they may be transferring from mayon avenue to a bigger house/ kitchen production area somewhere...rochelle's dad is from daet camnorte deo naman is from the north...

Rinconada then was dominated by RPN 9 when I was still a kid. My favorite shows were Dayuhan starring Herbert Bautista, Regal Shocker and etc...

I'm currently here at Ateneo Professional Schools in Rockwell Center.:cheers:

I'm using its free internet service just outside the orientation room :D

RPN 9 owned by Kanlaon Broadcasting System was the very first TV station in Bicol based in Iriga established in the early seventies. Why Iriga? Because it is the hometown of Nora Aunor, the one and only superstar and number 1 money maker of the station. :)

The Ateneo Professional Schools in Rockwell is very nice but not really that accessible if you don't have a car. I went to school in their campus at Salcedo Village. We were with the first occupants of the Salcedo campus in 1977 when the college of law and graduate school transferred from the original Padre Faura campus. I started my graduate studies at Padre Faura.(I'm old!:nuts: :lol:)

said simple and straight, quick and crisp. and i was speechless for a while. :lol:

really? uswag is also used in cebuano to mean positive outcomes, moving forward and to progress. i think bikolano has some similarities with cebuano/visayan.

kaUSWAGagan is cebuano for progress. even BOPK which stands for Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan is a local party founded by former mayor and now congressman-elect Tomas Osmeña and is geared towards progress and development in the city.

There are same words with same meanings in both languages. and there are some that differ...

daug in Cebuano means win, in bicol it's loss. It's equivalent in Bicol is gana.
kawat in Cebuano means steal, in bicol it's play. It's equivalent in Bicol is ikit.
