SC names new judge in
Dacer-Corbito case

MANILA (PNA)–The Supreme Court (SC) has designated a new trial court judge who will handle the double murder case in connection with the death of publicist Salvador “Bubby” Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito in November 2000.

The SC designated Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 32 Presiding Judge Thelma Bunyi-Medina to handle the Dacer-Corbito double murder case after Manila RTC Branch 18 Presiding Judge Myra Garcia-Fernandez was promoted as Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals (CA) in March this year.

Fernandez originally handled the controversial double murder case.

The double murder case was filed against Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and several officers of the defunct Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Task Force (PAOGTF).

Lacson left the country on January 5, 2010 a month before an arrest warrant was issued against him by Fernandez.

Medina is set to hear the pending pleadings on the double murder case on Friday.

The hearing was set upon the the motion of one of the accused, Margarito Cueno, in order for him to undergo a medical check up outside the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) premises.

San Pascual, Burias Island, Masbate (28 May) -- President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo inaugurated Thursday (May 27) a new strategically-located RoRo (roll-on-roll-off) port here during her visit to this town.

The P46.3 million RoRo port here, conceptualized as a "bridge between Luzon and the Visayas," was completed last year but blessing and inauguration was held when the President set foot in this remote town for the first time yesterday.

President Arroyo was the second president to visit this town, after her father President Diosdado Macapagal, who was here on December 28, 1962.

The construction of the port was supervised by the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) under the Strong Republic Central Philippines Nautical Highway program of the President.

San Pascual, is bordered by Camarines Sur in the north, Albay in the east, Bundok Peninsula of Quezon in northwest, and Sibuyan Island of Romblon and Ticao Island of Masbate in the south.

This town is 3rd class municipality with an annual income of P63.7 million in 2009, produces copra, cattle, hogs, goats and fish products. It is located at the northernmost tip of Burias Island, one of the islands that make up Masbate province. It is has 22 barangays with a population of 41,736.

"We are very happy that the President visited us even if we are just a small municipality in this island of Masbate," San Pascual Mayor Zacarina Lazaro said.

The new port can accommodate bigger cargo and passenger vessels passing through routes to and from Quezon, Masbate, Romblon, Cebu and Davao.

The upgraded port facilities include a (9m x 11m) RoRo ramp, (6m x 7m) trestle deck and two (2) sets of 9-pile breasting dolphin. The port also is a safe docking port for cargo vessels during tropical storms.

With this port's strategic position, Lazaro said trade and commerce in and around the province will be significantly enhanced, with the benefits seen to trickle down directly to the municipality and its people.

"It opens bigger trade market for us as we can now easily bring our products to Camarines Sur, Quezon, Romblon, Cebu, General Santos in Davao and some other provinces in Visayas and Mindanao'" Lazaro said.

Lazaro also said the port will boost local tourism as San Pascual has numerous tourist spots like Sumbrero Island and Tinalisayan Island which are inhabited by green sea turtle or pawikans. (PIA V)

Nine United States Peace Corps volunteers assigned in different schools/offices in the country facilitated the Division Secondary School English Teachers' Training (DSSETT) held at Pili National High School (PNHS), La Paz, Pili, Camarines Sur.

One of them, Mary R. Manouchehri, who is an Education Volunteer assigned in the Bikol Region, was co-organizer of the said training, along with Fe G. Peralta, English department head in PNHS. They shared innovative strategies in teaching writing, and teaching heterogeneous classes, respectively, during the alternative sessions at the two-day training.

Manouchehri was born and raised in California and has a degree in Bachelor of Arts and Multiple-Subject Teaching in Elementary Education with focus in Language and Literacy.

Bryan Barnett-Woods of California lectured on Assessment Tools/Rubrics; and Common Errors in English/Filipinisms. He co-teaches English in a school in Northern Luzon to develop students' fluency, reads to elementary pupils once a week, and will be facilitating a waste management program in his current community. He studied at Chapman University and plans of attending graduate school for Urban Planning and Public Policy.

Vicki Browne, another Californian, gave workshops, and shared information on Teaching Remedial Reading. In addition to teaching English, she also does HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns and leads an Environment Club at her school in Central Luzon.

Katie Sheppard, from Florida, and Beth Irvin, from Tennessee, both Coastal Resource Management (CRM) Volunteers who are working to protect the Philippines' vast coastline and educating Filipinos on ways of preserving it, stationed at an LGU in Bikol Region and in Luzon, respectively, took charge of the sessions on Debate and Environmental Education.

Shauna Masura, from Chicago, taught Critical Thinking processes and teaching strategies. She is currently based in the Bikol Region helping students develop English fluency. She majored in Religion, Dance and Psychology at Hope University

Megan Orsini, from Florida, assisted in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Fundamentals and ICT Advanced Techniques. She is a stationed at a high school in Eastern Visayas and teaches dance to students.

Becky Ort from Ohio and Lynn Debilzen from Wisconsin, increased the trainees' awareness about HIV and AIDS and Republic Act 8504, a law directing the conduct of massive information campaigns in schools and institutions in the country.

Ort teaches English at a high school in Western Visayas but also dedicates her time to HIV/AIDS awareness. She helped organized the annual World AIDS Day in December.

Meanwhile, Debilzen works at a community-based NGO in the Central Visayas as a Children, Youth, and Families (CYF) Volunteer, and teaches the community members about HIV/AIDS awareness and other community development projects.

Held on May 20-21, 2010, with 47 participants from 30 high schools in the five congressional districts of the province, the training aimed to enable participants to learn new skills to improve their teaching, to enhance ideas they already have, and to share ideas with one another.

William A. Villare, Ed. D., principal of the host school/venue, stressed the importance and timeliness of enriching the teaching skills of English teachers to help ensure better performance of students in academics, and in division and national achievement tests.

The participants, composed of young, new teachers, as well as seasoned, experienced mentors, admitted that the training was a welcome and helpful refresher that provided them with informative and creative ways of facilitating teaching-learning activities.

Brenda S. Avila of Ocampo National High School, Ocampo, Camarines Sur, remarked that, "For starting teachers like me, this training is very necessary for building up my confidence and my skills."

"I learned a lot; and I enjoyed the activities during the workshop sessions", said Imelda F. Sopena, who has been teaching at Ombao High School, Bula, Camarines Sur for 27 years already.

Sherwin A. Borre of Binobog High School, Pili District expressed thankfulness that he was able to attend, because he learned a lot that he can use in his teaching during the coming school year.

"We also recognized the efforts of the organizers and the peace corps volunteers to share useful and applicable teaching skills and strategies that we can adopt and adapt in our respective classrooms", stressed Franklin Dacuba, and this writer, the only trainees coming from technical-vocational high schools.

When asked how and why they conceptualized the training, Peralta answered that it was to realize the goals of Education Peace Corps Volunteers to train teachers in methodologies to improve their English teaching.

"We decided to ask for a very minimal registration fee (P200.00) to encourage more people to attend. We are very grateful for the active participation of those who attended", Manouchehri added.

Pili, CamSur – The training on social preparation in connection with the implementation of ‘Food Production Assistance to Vulnerable Sector (FPAVAS), a program funded by the European Union (EU) was held in the town of GOA from May 19 to 21.

Members of the Provincial Technical Working Group (TWG), Agricultural Technicians (ATs), and Municipal Agricultural Officers (MAOs) from the municipalities of Buhi, Ocampo, Tigaon, and Sagñay were the participants in this milestone gathering.

Agricultural productivity is among the priority programs of Governor LRay Villafuerte for the province along his thrust to attain food security and to provide the farmers and fisherfolks an alternative income.

Around 8,000 CamSur farmers including indigenous people stand to benefit form this EU funded project which is primarily aimed to spur food productivity in target barangays in the towns of Buhi, Ocampo, Tigaon, and Sagñay.

During the three-day live-in seminar, the participants were trained on how to organize and effectively manage community- based organizations , and the vital role of the participants on the implementation of the project.

Some of the topics discussed on the training were Value Formation and Orientation, Dynamics of Team Building and Community Organizing, Organizational Culture and Traits, Farm Planning and Record Keeping, Monitoring and Evaluation Component, and Evaluation of Training Modules for Social Preparation.

i do hope we stop the practice of naming buildings, roads, etc after the incumbent official. it's like using public funds for self-promotion :ohno: even if, say, the funds for the library come from the public official's personal funds, still i believe this practice is inappropriate.

after all building roads, edifices etc is part of the duty they have vowed to do. the people do not owe them naming rights.

i hope our younger officials would set the trend if the older ones cannot do it.

They just keep on rolling in.

Naga City once again garnered another award after the regional office of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) selected its Project Monitoring Committee (PMC) as the most outstanding in Bicol.

Incumbent city councilor and mayor-elect Atty. John Bongat was on hand along with other members of Naga’s PMC during the full council meeting of the Regional Development Council (RDC) for the awarding last May 26. The RDC, headed by Albay Governor Joey Salceda, convened at the NEDA building in Rawis, Legaspi City.

In 2008, Naga was also chosen as the having the most outstanding PMC. The city government placed second the year after before regaining the top spot this year.

According to mayor-elect Bongat, NEDA’s recognition of Naga’s efforts is based on the prevailing culture of transparency and accountability in the city. As the chairman of the PMC and the Appropriations Committee of the City Council, the city councilor has been at the forefront of Naga’s drive to make government projects and contracts more transparent.

Bongat also added that they were not expecting to be declared this year’s most outstanding PMC in the region and only received notice less than two weeks before the awarding.

The establishment of project monitoring committees was enacted through Executive Order 376 during Pres. Corazon Aquino’s term to improve project implementation at the local government level. PMC’s are tasked to coordinate with NGOs and pinpoint problems in the implementation of government projects. They are also required to prepare periodic reports on the status of project implementation.

They are also required to prepare periodic reports on the status of project implementation.

I agree with you ignatius....It's against the law to name public buildings after them even they are not incumbent public servants anymore. We can only name those if they are dead and some considerations to be taken why it would be named after them.

‘First Time’ stars Joshua Dionisio and Barbie FortezaOver the weekend, GMA Network (which is celebrating 60 years of touching hearts and enriching lives) brought some of its brightest stars to Camsur to bring cheer and entertainment to Bicolanos during their annual Kaogma Festival.

At the well-attended Kapuso Night (May 29) held at the SM City Naga, the stars of GMA-7’s new shows and primetime programs led the fun and gave entertainment to Kapusos who did not bother with the heat just to have a glimpse of their favorite stars.

Heading the Kapuso stars were “Basahang Ginto” loveteam Geoff Eigenmann and Carla Abellana, “First Time” stars Johua Dionisio and Barbie Forteza; and “Panday Kids” lead stars Buboy Villar, Sabrina Man and Julian Trono.

Earlier that day, before the Kapuso Night, Joshua and Barbie, together with Buboy, Sabrina and Julian took part in the Kapuso Meet and Greet with the fans at the Capitol Grounds in Pili City.

At the Kapuso Night (which was hosted by the funny tandem of Pekto and Belli Flori), fans cheered and shrieked and delighted to songs rendered by Carla and Geoff (individually before doing a duet), and before them Buboy and Sabrina sang two songs each.

On the other hand, Julian did a very impressive dance number. But it was the tandem of Joshua and Barbie who was called last. Does it mean they are the bigger stars than Geoff and Carla? The overwhelming reaction of the audience to the “First Time” stars proved this, and Geoff and Carla didn’t mind; in fact they were thrilled for Joshua and Barbie, who Balita entertainment editor Dindo Baleres predicted to be the next big stars of GMA-7.
Joshua and Barbie’s next show is entitled “Pilyang Kerubin,” scheduled to start airing on June 7.

Carla and Geoff, who first debuted as a loveteam in the Filipino adaptation of the Mexicanovela “Rosalinda,” are now re-teamed in the remake of the Mars Ravelo classic “Basahang Ginto.” “We’re so happy, pataas nang pataas ang rating ng show natin,” Carla and Geoff said during dinner at Triboo Grill after the Kapuso Night.

Carla is also the lead star of the first episode of “Love Bug,” “The Last Romance” which pairs her with Dennis Trillo.

Kaogma Festival started in 2006 through the efforts of local authorities whose aim was to establish Camsur as a progressive province. Through the years, it has evolved from a promising festival to a dynamic celebration of the best the province could offer.

This year, Kaogma Festival’s theme was “Everybody Happy,” as it aimed further to expand the uniqueness and the global look of the festival by infusing extreme sports and hot parties, hence the Kapuso Night with some of the hottest stars and personalities of GMA Network.

i do hope we stop the practice of naming buildings, roads, etc after the incumbent official. it's like using public funds for self-promotion :ohno: even if, say, the funds for the library come from the public official's personal funds, still i believe this practice is inappropriate.

after all building roads, edifices etc is part of the duty they have vowed to do. the people do not owe them naming rights.

i hope our younger officials would set the trend if the older ones cannot do it.

Mt. Isarog downhill biking race highlights Kaogma celebrations


One innovation introduced in the Kaogma celebrations this year that added color and excitement to the revelry was the downhill bike competition held at the slope of Mt. Isarog last May 29 to 30.

The race tested the skills, agility and fortitude of the participants in maneuvering the risky and perilous turns, drops, banks and bumps of the mountain trails at Consocep, in Ocampo, Camarines Sur developed by experts to cater to the demands and discipline of the new extreme sport introduced in CamSur by Gov. LRay Villafuerte.

Drawing participation not only from local cycling circles and aficionados but from all over the country, the competition was truly a sport spectacle not only for the local residents who, for the first time, witnessed the extreme sport but also for those who came to be part of the groundbreaking event.

Riding in their competition-trimmed bike, which at the least costs Php 40,000 or more to assemble, cyclists careened downhill one after the other at a gravitationally-accelerated speed while performing breathtakingly difficult even dangerous jumps, slides, glides and airborne maneuvers on the loosely-particled and sometimes rocky or bouldered grounds until the end of the trail is reached at the shortest achievable time.

Participants competed for the categories Beginner, Executive, Masters and Pro-open.

According to Cuatro Hundley, the foreign expert for the project, the trail was developed according to accepted standards as adopted by similar competition trails in other countries he and his partners have visited and participated in.

From the provincial government’s end under Gov. Villafuerte’s leadership, the project will not only spawn greater involvement of the youth in sports activities but will also be a big boost to the tourism initiatives of the province thereby providing additional source of income to the residents of Consocep.

Michel Roquel of Sta Cruz, Laguna dominated the Beginners Category, Donn Mikael Robles of Calamba City bagged the top honors in the Executive Category, Lex Evangelista of Quezon City took home the Masters Category bacon while JV Barba of Dumaguete City was champion in the Pro-Open Category. Jesus Antonio M Carpio kicked the bucket Wednesday (May 26, 2010) at 7:10 in the evening just as Bicol Mail was put to bed. He was 78 years, 7 months and 1 day old.

J Antonio M Carpio, married to Bernardita, had 14 children, of whom two are priests and four lawyers. The Carpio family was Model Filipino Family under the Angkan Awards by World Family Institute, Inc. in rites held at Heroes Hall in Malacañang, Manila on March 10, 1994. It was also in this same year that Bernardita passed away on August 19. She was 60 years and 11 months old. The reproduction health program of this present administration is never in this family’s vocabulary.

Exactly at the first death anniversary of Bernardita, J Antonio M Carpio came out with his book “Viva La Virgen!” Verses And Poems & A Pinch Of Prose. He dedicated his book to Bernardita: “My fondest, fairest face in all the world, whose 39 years, 3 months and 15 days of life upon this earth shared with me --- God’s gift --- was the most elevating excitement of my soul. Poetry in its pristine purity.” His writings in verse, particularly the sonnet, were as commanding as those in prose. He was consistent contributor to the defunct The Rainbow Magazine, official publication of the Archdiocesan movement in Caceres, Cursillos de Cristianidad. Every now and then his writings found print in the national magazines and broadsheets, the Philippines Free Press and the Philippine Daily Inquirer as well as in local tabloids such as Naga Times, Balalong, Handiong, and the Paper Newsmagazine.

J Antonio M Carpio stood as defense lawyer for mediamen accused of libel and championed the cause upheld by victims of human rights abuses, an advocacy he shared with his bosom friends Atty. Luis General, Jr. and Atty. Alfredo Tria. For a while, he entered government service under the Revolutionary Government of President Corazon Aquino as National Bureau of Investigation national director while his two friends joined hands to handle the publication of Balalong, then later Handiong. It was the golden decade of local journalism. Now that these three are gone, the generation of giants seemed to have passed away.

Days before the demise of J Antonio M Carpio last week, he must have been pleased to know that Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino Jr. was elected 15th president of the Republic of the Philippines as far as Comelec canvassing is concerned. He must have taken pride in the result. He left this life knowing that the nation is under the care of an Aquino, whose family he had served so well and with dedication. He was leaving his own family under good hands.

Maria Jeline Oliva, the only Bikolano who qualified to enter the semi-final round in the ABS-CBN talent showdown last Saturday (May 29), gave a musical rendition that confirms that she really deserves to enter the final round when she exhibited her dexterity in the use of musical instruments, playing the same musical piece, shifting from the violin to the piano.

A fresh graduate from the elementary department of Naga City Montessori School, Jeline had been a sight to behold on stage whenever there were programs in school. There was never a doubt that she has a very innate talent not often found in girls her age.

The great performance she had last weekend was not achieved in a day or over a week but for years. She had been working on her violin and 11 other musical instruments through the encouragement of her parents who are managing Cuerdas de Naga, a music studio, catering to tutoring young boys and girls. As a student, Jeline is simply exemplary in conduct, never haughty about her talent.

Jeline’s entry in the national finals is an inspiration to Bikolanos, young as those in the elementary grades, that music is something that refines the children’s taste for what is noble and of value in life.

NAGA CITY --- More than eleven thousand fans patiently waited and were not disappointed when the Kapuso Mall Show in SM City Naga unfurled over the weekend as part of Camarines Sur’s Kaogma Festival celebration.

The cast of Pilyang Kerubin, Basahang Ginto, and Panday Kids were warmly received by the enthusiastic crowd that filled up the mall’s open parking lot as early as 4:00 p.m. last Saturday, May 29.

Unmindful of the balmy air, the audience soaked up the fun, took part in the on-ground games, and enjoyed the pre-event entertainment, which was hosted by the funny tandem of Belli Flori and Pekto, before the actual mall show started at 7:00 p.m.

Buboy Villar, Sabrina Mann, and Julian Trono – lead stars of evening primetime telefantasya Panday Kids were the first to be in the spotlight. After a group production number, one by one, they took their places in the stage to wow the crowd.

Buboy was a hit, performing two songs in a row before calling in Sabrina who rendered popular Miley Cyrus ditties. Julian endeared himself to the crowd via a solo dance number that had them clapping most of the time.

The air was soon punctuated by shrills when Belli Flori and Pekto introduced the popular loveteam of Geoff Eigenmann and Carla Abellana. Geoff and Carla are the lead stars in the remake of the Mars Ravelo classic, Basahang Ginto.

Geoff pulled up a lady fan and brought her on stage while the handsome actor rendered a song. Geoff and Carla later performed a duet that had the crowd teasing them to kiss on the spot.

The mall show was already in full swing and the people were cringing for more entertainment when the hosts called in Barbie Forteza – one of the lead stars of the latest Kapuso program Pilyang Kerubin. When Barbie appeared on stage, the flashing of cameras was unstoppable. After her number, Barbie introduced Joshua Dionisio, who had the young girls in the audience screaming, even after he has performed his song-and-dance number.

Obviously, the crowd has not fully recovered yet from their “Joshua-Barbie dose” in the just-concluded First Time series, as they all seemed to swoon when the young stars sang Way Back Into Love.

To cap off the night, the Kapuso Stars took the stage once more, personally thanked the audience and invited them to continue watching GMA shows and programs. Limited edition GMA Network merchandise and items were given away to the crowd just as the Kapuso song was played.

Suggestion: How about, the most-represented City/region in terms of number of participants will automatically become the next host? and that CamSur will pledge or commit to attend the next National Meet with a pre-determined number of delegates. :)

Sportsfest sounds good! But IMO, it's better if we hold a mini-TRIATHLON sort of thing. that way, more members can participate rather than having different events that only some can play. :D but basketball, volleyball, tennis etc. are much easier to organize though. :)

Nursing a slim bonus time of 5 seconds over Cris Joven of Iriga City and 10 seconds over Bryan Sepnio of Nabua, CamSur who finished with him in the lead pack of the first lap, Bonzo conserved power in the final lap coasting along with the second pack of a half a dozen riders as archrivals riding buddies Cris Joven and John Ricafort of Iriga City, running in second and fifth standings just seconds behind Bonzo after the initial lap, broke away very early in the 110-kilometer route from Lagonoy to the Provincial Capitol Complex here.

Unleashing a surge of speed in store typical of a natural sprinter he is, Bonzo at the lead of the second pack gradually closed the distance of over three kilometers Joven and Ricafort have maintained most of the lap, overhauling and overtaking them for a solo head less than 20 kilometers from the finish line in the vicinity of Banasi, Bula.

Bonzo clocked a total running time of 5 hours, 54 minutes and 58 seconds, only 15 short but precious seconds ahead of Joven and Bryan Sepnio of Nabua, CamSur who posted identical time of 5:55:13 and shared second place.

Except for Bonzo, cyclists from the Rinconada district virtually dominated the Tour. PGMA opens new Bicol road linking Albay, Camarines Sur
Manila (1 June) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo opened yesterday (Monday, May 31) the 24-kilometre Sagnay-Tiwi road that connects the province of Camarines Sur to Albay, underscoring the project's importance in linking two Bicol provinces with big tourism potentials.

Albay and Camarines Sur lie in the Central Philippines Tourism Corridor which has been the beneficiary of massive tourism-related investments under the President's super-region development concept.

The President led the ribbon cutting of the of the P320 million road project, Sagnay-Tiwi road that serves as the shortest route connecting the 3rd district of Camarines Sur to the first district of Albay.

She said infrastructure stands as a source of increasing investors confidence in the tourism as well as the driver economic progress in the regions whioch she said will soon feel the impact of the phenomenal 7.3 percent growth rate posted by the national economy for the first quarter of 2010.

The President then talked to Salvador Gacer and Leonin Barasona who both benefited from the road project.

Leonin, who before earns 100 pesos a day from fishing, has doubled his daily earnings as a laborer in President Arroyo's road project.

Meanwhile Barasona whose family lives marginally through farming and fishing said that before the road was built, his crops were easily damaged in storage and due to the lack of roads to transport his goods.

President Arroyo addressed Barsona that because of the road project his post-harvest losses will now be reduced.

Tourism industry still the economy booster in Bicol
LEGAZPI CITY, June 3 (PNA) --- The tourism industry in Bicol posted a positive growth rate generating some P365 million in revenues during the 1st quarter of this year.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) in Bicol reported that the first three months of this year, it posted a 593,241 tourist arrivals with 13 percent growth rate compared to the 524,544 tourist arrivals during the same period last year.

During the 1st Quarter the DOT said 80 percent (454,016) of the tourist arrivals were locals while only 20 percent or 139,225 were foreign nationals.

Maria Ravanilla DOT regional director said the regions growth in tourist arrivals have been delivered by the three “icons” of tourism namely Mayon Volcano in Albay, CWC in Camarines Sur and Butanding (whaleshark) interaction in Donsol, Sorsogon.

Ravanilla said the province of Camarines Sur continue to bring in the bacon posting a 348,139 tourist arrivals generating P197 million in revenues, followed by Albay with 86,518 arrivals with P65 million revenue; Catanduanes – 31,432 arrivals/P35 million; Sorsogon- 31,049/P27.5 million; Masbate 49,061/P20.2 million; and Camarines Norte with 47,042 arrivals/P19.2 million revenues.

This week is the National Mid Year Convention of the Philippine Neurological Association at Avenue Plaza Hotel.

Incidentally, the Bicol Medical Center's Department of Internal Medicine Section of Pulmonology, was the representative of the DOH Region V for it's anti- smoking campaign progran amd was given the DOH Red Orchid Awards.

Tourism industry still the economy booster in Bicol
LEGAZPI CITY, June 3 (PNA) --- The tourism industry in Bicol posted a positive growth rate generating some P365 million in revenues during the 1st quarter of this year.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) in Bicol reported that the first three months of this year, it posted a 593,241 tourist arrivals with 13 percent growth rate compared to the 524,544 tourist arrivals during the same period last year.

During the 1st Quarter the DOT said 80 percent (454,016) of the tourist arrivals were locals while only 20 percent or 139,225 were foreign nationals.

Maria Ravanilla DOT regional director said the regions growth in tourist arrivals have been delivered by the three “icons” of tourism namely Mayon Volcano in Albay, CWC in Camarines Sur and Butanding (whaleshark) interaction in Donsol, Sorsogon.

Ravanilla said the province of Camarines Sur continue to bring in the bacon posting a 348,139 tourist arrivals generating P197 million in revenues, followed by Albay with 86,518 arrivals with P65 million revenue; Catanduanes – 31,432 arrivals/P35 million; Sorsogon- 31,049/P27.5 million; Masbate 49,061/P20.2 million; and Camarines Norte with 47,042 arrivals/P19.2 million revenues.

DOT data reveals that the industry continue to post an uptrend in grow receipts with P443.5 million in 2007, it surge by P782 million in 2008 and hit over a P1 billion mark last year.(PNA)

CamSur has never reached such status until Gov assumed the office..

The Central Bus Terminal is becoming an eyesore on the new CBD 2.

they have nice buidings in that area now, Bicol Access Health Centrum SM City Naga and CBD 2 Hotel to name a few.

^^Yeah, it does not blend with the new buildings surrounding it... I hope the city government will consider a beautification of the said terminal.... and the whole CBD2 as well if they may :D

^^there should always be security check on the road going to Caramoan as few days ago, there were encounters between the government forces and the mountain brotherhood in adjacent Garchitorena...

^^Partido is a haven for nice people but I guess that insurgency problem is being addressed and taken seriously by the government.

In due time, it will totally be eradicated with the impressive tourism development of Caramoan as an engine for prosperity.

I think the idea came from SSC Naga, they just extended the invitation to the rest of the forum. And it seems like they're willing and able to host the event, haven't seen any other initiative being put forth by the other SSC PH locales.
