Nikko's Ark
November 19-20,2010

kaiba ko si mga katrabhao ko dati sa Daet last night and my sister. nag try sa Nikko's Ark, we stayed inside to avoid the smoke :D i had no idea that the enclosed room is being used as the dance floor. :lol: and buti nalang last night was not yet ZouK night kasi if iyo talaga dai man kami ma duman. gusto mi lang ma try. We ordered drinks such as Lady in Red, Tequilla Sunrise and Jellato Iced Tea. Jellato Pizza was in thin crust.. tastes good din.. very cheezzzyyy :cheers:

the design of the place is a bit unique and i was surprised of the parking lot which will keep every car safe in the compound, a plus point for me. Jellato's Resto, The Tent and Nikko's Ark are neighbors, i just don't know who owns what or maybe the three of them.
all i know is the engineer who designed the Ark.

we had fun with the lights. hehe para syang Blue Bar style ang Nikko's Ark only that i comes in three floors.. KTV Rooms on the Ground Floor, 2nd and 3rd for dine ins and they have a dance floor inside

Bicol is now No. 2 in tourist arrivals
verse travel advisory is non-issue

LEGAZPI CITY ---The Bicol tourism industry has remained bullish despite the adverse travel advisories issued by foreign countries like the United States, Australia, and Canada, Tourism Regional Director Maria Ong Ravanilla said in a telephone interview yesterday.

She said that the hostage crisis that claimed the lives of eight Hong Kong tourists in Manila recently and reports about incidents of violence and disorder in other areas did not deter foreign tourists and Balikbayans from visiting the Bicol region.

In fact, out of curiosity these tourists came to the Bicol region to prove their country’s advisories wrong, Ravanilla said.

She revealed that during the recent Peñafrancia Festival last September some 3 million Marian devotees came to Naga City for the 300th devotion to Ina.

Many of those who had attended the religious festival were Balikbayans and their friends.

Ravanilla said that Camarines Sur and Naga City have remained No.1 in tourist arrivals in the Bicol region posting an improvement of 135 percent over last year’s statistics.

She said that during the 3rd quarter of the year some 768,167 tourists had actually visited Naga and Camarines Sur as tourists, staying in hotels and lodging houses.

Meanwhile, Ravanilla reported that Albay and Legazpi City ranked No. 2 in tourist arrivals. For the 3rd quarter of this year, Albay and Legazpi City posted a total of 73,056 tourist arrivals from 35,105 for the same period last year.

Over all, the Bicol region is No. 2 among the 15 regions when it comes to tourist arrivals.

Ravanilla attributed this growth in the Bicol tourism industry to the concerted efforts of local government units and the private sector who have invested much in putting up hotels, restaurants, and beach resorts.

She also acknowledged the role of the Department of Tourism (DOT) with the help of the media in promoting local tourism nationally and internationally.

Got an info from a credible source that the budget allotted originally by the owner of Robertson Mall in constructing its new mall @ Diversion was shifted to the expansion and improvement of his mall branch in Sorsogon. The much-awaited construction of the BIG "A" will be early next year.

good to see the tree house in Consocep still alive! a hike to consocep from hanawan is a sure breather - even if one almost runs out of breath at certain points. it offers a breathtaking view of the province (esp partido area) as it connects with the ocean.

wow, cardiac delight! hope they get their lechon from cebu via the airphil MWFS noon flights. PhP2,800 lang and medium-sized lechon.

before eating lechon, one can also ask for holy anointing na, just in case the next scene that unfolds before your eyes is that of clouds and angels singing and fluttering all over the place :-)

89 DAYS TO GO. met with some of the core team of SFC a few days ago. here are some updates:

- ALL accommodations at CWC are booked by SFC for feb 18-20
- pero KULANG pa! even if they book all rooms in Naga's and Iriga's hotels, kulang; they are looking for homestay sponsors among their contact families
- tour packages after the workshop are arranged with CWC/ Capitol
- organizers and core team arrive as early as a week before the event
- participants frm all over the country as well as SFC communities abroad- Middle East, the US, Singapore, Pacific islands, Malaysia, etc
- kaya madalion maubos pag airfare promo ning mid February ta nakaabang na ang SFC :-)
- Bigg's is among the bidders to do food catering for the 7k to 10k participants

the team were in Naga/ CWC last weekend for planning and recollection. they were impressed by the facilities in CWC and the food trip in Naga. they're unanimous in giving Bigg's high praises

and of course, the lowly kinalas which the adventurous among them sought and found :cheers:

Unfortunately for me, my family has never been to Caramoan. Correct me if I'm wrong, I still have this impression that they still do not have a resort with child friendly facility. We hope to visit the place when my son is a little older.

Together with Misibis, Caramoan is one of the top attractions in Bicol.

Incidentally, together the other Bicolano Thomasian Endcrinologists, we will be having an overnight meet at Misibis tomorrow.

The kids are excited but I had to defer my attendance due to a very a busy Saturday appointment. My secretary failed to block that date.

Baad forgetful and pregnant secretary:ohno:. (I don't know if this is a pregnancy season- we have three pregnant employees- my wife's secretary and my son's yaya):nuts:

The meet will have to go on without us. Since our stay has been pre- paid, we are arranging to have our stay re- scheduled to a later date. They agreed under the condition that it should not fall on a peak season.

Were requesting to have it moved on December 23. I hope the agent would be able to arrange it so we could look forward for a Christmas by the bay.

One can never get enough of the fabulous Misibis Bay.

Lucky Albay and lucky for us in Bicol for having one luxurious resort very near our backyard.

No plane tickets needed.

We went to Misibis 3 weeks ago. Kasama ko mga co-teachers ko. The place is really beautiful.

I just had very animated FB feeback on my former Finance managers Bicol pics posted on their FB accounts. They were very impressed with the boardroom venue :banana::banana::banana:

The Area Finance Manager from South Luzon area who is from Naga acted as their tourist guide and the big bosses really had a blast at CWC and had some funny pictures with Mayon Volcano :)

WWF cites Smart for Project Connect
MANILA, Philippines—Smart Communications Inc. recently received an Environment Leadership Award from the World Wide Fund for Nature-Philippines during the latter’s Partners Night.

WWF-Philippines chair Vince Perez and CEO and vice chair Lori Tan presented the award to Smart chief wireless advisor Orlando B. Vea and community partnerships senior manager Darwin Flores.

The telco was cited for Project Connect, which aims to educate and increase awareness on energy efficiency and conservation among elementary, high school and college students via interactive workshops.

Smart and WWF-Philippines will pilot the interactive workshop at the Palawan State University (Puerto Princesa), Camarines Sur National High School (Naga), and Peñablanca East Central School (Tuguegarao, Cagayan).

The three schools are the champions of the 2009 National Search for Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Schools, a joint activity of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources through the Environmental Management Bureau, Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, and Smart, which aims to recognize schools that promote and implement earth-friendly programs.

Smart is also an active supporter of Earth Hour, the worldwide event calling for action on climate change, led by WWF-Philippines. Aside from turning off the lights on its billboards and buildings in various parts of the country in support of Earth Hour, Smart also engaged its employees in pro-environment activities in an internal campaign.

The partnership between Smart and WWF-Philippines is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility and community service program Kabalikat.

Hi guys. Thanks for the lovely comments. I am now in Albay. We just finished day 1 of our tour of Legazpi and Albay. Grabe nage-enjoy din ako sa Albay. Mayon Volcano is the bomb! lol. :lol:

Anyway, happy to report to you that in Hoyop Hoyopan Cave, we toured with students of Ateneo de Naga University. Mga at least 5 buses sila. Albay immersion tour nila. We saw them again at Santo Domingo Church and in Lignon Hills plus another bus load of students from Naga Parochial School.. Nagmistulang school outing ang attraction ng Legazpi and Albay.. lol.. :lol:

I miss CamSur already..

Isa sa mga na-miss ko ay yung very, very lazy dog sa Barangay Tabgon. The dog was so lazy he didn't even bother to wake up when I invaded its sleeping bench. lol. :lol:

Bikol's first churches were constructed in 1578 in CamSur. Nabua Church is among them, began by the Augustinian missionary Fray Alonzo de Jimenez who started a mission there. but of course, this is not the original edifice anymore as it was destroyed by a fire.

for the stonehouse, can it be possible na inform ta muna duman na makiki shoot lng kita? i saw in their facebook kasi na they do not accept walk ins malamang para sa mga ma stay yun.. although ma visit lang kita, pero mas okay garo na magpaaram? ano sa hiling po nindo?

kung maduman sa stonehouse garo mapipiritan ako mag matang amay medyo alanganin kaya ako morning.. but just in case sa Bigg's Magsaysay ang lunch, maiba ako

what if Lunch nalang mag meet then mga 1 off we go na to those spots? kaya ba sa oras?

Ako nga, i was in a 3 year contract but i resigned at 2 years and 5 months because of family reasons. mAyo naman naginibo ang hospital ko. although they have stopped me from resigning up to my last day in the UAE (I did not get my last pay check until I was back home for 2 weeks more. Ganon nila ako kagustong mag stay pa! :lol:

hi ina. i think USI now offers short-term culinary courses. but let me check on this with my nephew who studies there.

other places that offer short-term courses:

1. Clementine's on Magsaysay Ave (since the 90s, i believe). the owner, Clemen Raneses teaches the courses. very small groups only. sked and subject matter suited to your needs.

2. Cake to Go near Panganiban Bridge/ Beanbag Panganiban

3. Twin Frost (SM City)

4. Green Earth Cafe, Villa Sorabella, Concepcion (organic and vegan dishes only)

a classmate now based in the US came home recently, stayed in Naga for about a month and enrolled in Cake to Go/ Twin Frost's courses. she learned cakes and pastries fast. she plans to go into the cake/ pastry business in the US.

Moratorium on Buhi Fishing Mulled
“Drastic” measures proposed to save lake

BUHI, CAMARINES SUR (16 Nov 2010) —A THREE YEAR Moratorium which will prohibit the operation of commercial fish cages, and confining fish cage operations to only 10% of the lake area are among the drastic measures being proposed by an inter-agency group now conducting studies on the worsening pollution in Lake Buhi.

These measures, together with the dismantling of illegal fish cages and the non-issuance of new fishing licenses, were proposed by concerned agencies during a joint Sangguniang Panlalawigan and Sangguniang Bayan of Buhi session held in this town the other day to probe the fish kill incident that resulted to some P 80-Million in losses to the Tilapia-raising industry in this lake town.

In a report at the joint session, the provincial government’s Environment Disaster Management Response Office (EDMERO) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) regional office stated that Buhi lake-waters had increasing levels of hydrogen sulphite and ammonia from decaying fish feeds and sediments that have settled in the lake bottom and had resulted to decreased oxygen levels which in turn caused the fish kill.

Experts revealed that acquired soil samples in the lake bottom consist of 70% residue and 30% soil, an alarming condition that is contributing to the warming of temperatures in the lake bottom.

Blame

In his address to the joint session, Buhi Mayor Rey Lacoste lamented that only the local government of Buhi seems to get the blame for the worsening environmental degradation of the lake’s eco-system when major government agencies are benefited from its lake resources.

Lacoste noted that the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) has its control structure in the lake which is the source of irrigation for some 18,000 hectares of rice lands in the Rinconada and 3rd districts of Camarines Sur; while the former National Power Corp. (NPC) controls the Baret Hydro-Electric Plant power generation now managed by the People Energy Service Inc.

The Mayor said that these agencies have control over the lake resources but had not contributed to preserve the lake ecology.

He also said that based on President Marcos’ Presidential Proclamation 873 and Executive Order 224, the NPC still has administrative management control over 8,317 hectares of watershed areas of Buhi, including areas of the lake.

He added that even with the advent of the Local Government Code of 1991, the lake resources are not solely owned by the local government.

During the same joint session, Camarines Sur Board member Angel Naval, Chair of the environment committee, had proposed that stakeholders of the lake including some 600-strong commercial fish-cage operators should establish a maintenance fund for the ecological sustainability of the lake.

Trapped sediments

Meanwhile Buhi councilor Edwin Salvamante revealed that millions of tons of residual siltation were trapped at the bottom of the lake unable to freely flow at the NIA’s control structure due to a coffer dam made from armour rocks blocking the flow of sediments from the lake.

Reportedly, the coffer dam that was built as a barrier during the construction of the NIA control structure at the lake in 1986 has not been removed by the NIA until today.

NPC experts claimed about 9,900,000 cubic meters of sediments were trapped in the lake since 2001; present estimates are at 16,200,000 cubic meters or about five meters thick.

Currently, with more than 20,000 fish cages in the lake operated by about 600 fish cages operators, and more than 400 marginal fishermen, the lake area had also shrunk from 1,800 hectares to about 1,618 hectares according to a recent Global Positioning System (GPS) survey.

In the meantime, Vice-Gov. Fortunato Peña said during the session that Gov. Luis-Raymund Villafuerte has expressed concern on the thousands that may be displaced once a moratorium on the fish cages is imposed as an extreme necessity to save the lake.

Iriga City ---- The University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) is all set for the upcoming 4th International ICCS Convention on Media Communications happening next week, November 27. On top of the preparation is no less than UNEP President Atty. Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda.

“We have been waiting for this event to finally materialize and now we’re a week shy from the convention proper. We have invited professional speakers, in fact, the cream of the crop from their generation, to partake with the participants their expertise on communication. This, I know would also give additional learning to our own community here at UNEP, especially our communication students and personnel.”

The ICCS Convention is set to gather all communication enthusiasts and practitioners during the one-day event. Speakers coming from different communication genre are expected to impart their proficiency in various field of broadcast and discuss matters concerning professional media practice.

The event was initiated by ICCS-Manila who prepared relevant and timely topics for the attendees. This includes lecture on Current Issues and trends in Radio and TV Broadcasting which will be discussed by Cecille Lardizabal of Reuters Televison / Inquirer Radio.

Mr. Mark Salazar of GMA Network will also deliver his talk on Media Ethics while Susan Enriquez, also from the same network will give a Lecture on Radio reporting. Salazar and Enriquez will be joined by another GMA famed media personnel in the name of Maki Pulido who will also share her expertise on News Writing.

Another speaker from one of the giant television networks in the country, Ms. Sol Aragones of ABS CBN will also deliver her lecture on Documentary Making.

After each lecture, there will be a Question and Answer portion to give participants a chance to clarify related issues discussed by the speaker.

Before finally wrapping the event, there will be a panel discussion comprised of the aforementioned speakers who will answer and give their thoughts on current media issues.

Early this month we stated that in order to begin saving Lake Buhi, the strict implementation of the Fisheries Code provision that only 10 percent of the total area of any lake be occupied by fish cages ought to be effected. This, we admitted, had very troubling direct consequences to the economy of Buhi where majority of the inhabitants are largely dependent on the fishing industry.

In the recent joint session between the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Camarines Sur and Sangguniang Bayan of Buhi, the above measure together with other “bitter pills” for the lake-side municipality had been proposed by invited experts to save the lake whose waters had been confirmed to be dangerously polluted. These “pills” include a moratorium on the operations of fish cages, the review and possible revocation of fishing permits, and the cessation of issuance of new fishing permits.

The experts’ final recommendations are still pending until the impact assessment of the proposed measures had been completed; yet, it is becoming apparent that Buhi and its LGU will have to make difficult choices soon. For it is clear that the current condition of the lake’s eco-system endangers the very industry which had since throve in it: fish kills will continue if the pollution of the lake persists and remain unaddressed.

As the town of Buhi makes the tough choices in the face of this environmental and social problem, the provincial and national governments must put into place the needed safety nets that will allow support for the said municipality and its community members. An obvious example of these is available funding for alternative livelihoods.

These safety nets, following the well-known proverb, must not just provide the people with fish, but instead must teach them to fish for themselves. Albeit in this case, these safety nets must teach the people of Buhi to fish elsewhere other than the lake.

Still, if long-term considerations are taken into account, and following the above appraisal of the situation, then such a difficult decision must be undertaken by the municipality who stands to lose the most when the Lake dies. In other words, Buhi may just have to limit its Tilapia production if only to save its proverbial goose that lays the golden eggs.

Calling Each Other

The way we call each other now resolves a long and interesting debate about kinship. The old debate was between the search for the universals in human relations and that which saw in the terms we used to address each other the trait of languages – fluid and symbolic.

Fluidity and a strong sense of the arbitrary are the rules in kinship terms. Listen to couples calling each other “Papa” and “Mama” instead of their respective names. Where did this start, and what was the reason for the dominance of this labeling? Some parents I asked informally years ago told me that the reason for this calling was to instill early on in their kids the manner by which they wanted to be addressed. I do not understand this explanation because in my generation, our parents never called each other “Papa” and “Mama.” Does this mean the succeeding generations of children were slow to learn the proper names for their father and mother? Were the children more distracted and dumber?

In my family, I learned to call my elder brother, Manong, even if my father and mother called him by his nickname, Pempe. I knew that he was Manong and that I could not call him Pempe. My parents did not call him Manong so that I would learn to address him in that manner. I just knew that he was Manong.

In families now, elder male children are addressed as “Kuya,” again using the same reasoning that the siblings would then learn to call him as such. This is most interesting because out in the public areas, in internet cafes, for example, staff would usually address little boys as “Kuya.” Again, this has no explanation except perhaps for us to assume that the name boosts the maturity of the male little kids.

Addressing authorities is even a more complex field, as baroque as the studies done by early anthropologists. We have varied choices but “Sir” and “Ma’am” have become current and popular appellation. In campuses, teachers are either “Sir-This” or “Ma’am-That.” The noble sound in those names does not readily translate into respect. You can hear students talking about how gross “Sir __” is, and how dumb “Ma’am __” is.

In Bikol, I know a student is not from Naga when s/he calls his/her female teacher “Madam.” This is eerie because in many novels and short stories “Madam” has collapsed from her shining pedestal down to a more dubious level of being a caretaker of “brothels.”

The universe of titles, to illustrate how complex and fluid it has become, is social-status sensitive. However much you respect or pretend to respect the janitor or the woman managing the canteen, they will never be “Sir” or “Ma’am” but Manong and Manang. This is a Manila import, a practice of students especially in exclusive schools where the term is rural enough to implicate the roots (as perceived by students) and origins of these canteen help and assistants. In Naga, these “Manong” and “Manang” have taken roots also. The variation is “Manay” and “Manoy.” A word of caution: even if you want to go native and go cute, never addresss a teacher “Manong” or “Manang.”

In our highly matriarchal society, there is also the creature called “Mommy.” There is nothing matriarchal however, with this being, for that person who is given this title is usually the despotic type, a kind of a virago in the guise of a good spirit. This woman, far advanced in age and about to retire, is difficult to deal with and is badly in need of attention. To defuse her virulence, a title of warmth and care is then dispatched to her side. Sometimes it works, but even when it works, the “Mommy” always suffocates. There is no equivalent in the male gender. However mature that male manager in your office, he is never called a “Daddy.” If he is called as such, we can assume the relationship between the “callee” and the caller is never patriarchal. You cannot address him also as Papa for that would indicate a kinship that is more economic than filial. Behind the back, however, of all prospective “Mommy” and “Daddy” and “Papa,” they can always be addressed as “Lola.” Finally, the dearest term for our grandmother has been turned into a classification for somebody not endearing.

David Schneider who is the foremost authority on symbolic kinship is right: “kinship . . . is essentially undefined and vacuous: it is an analytic construct which seems to have little justification even as an analytic construct.”

I just had very animated FB feeback on my former Finance managers Bicol pics posted on their FB accounts. They were very impressed with the boardroom venue :banana::banana::banana:

The Area Finance Manager from South Luzon area who is from Naga acted as their tourist guide and the big bosses really had a blast at CWC and had some funny pictures with Mayon Volcano :)

Avenue Plaza Hotels has the best boardrooms on most hotels that I've been in the Philippines. Shangri- La, Oakwood and Sofitel included.

That's the reason why Naga City is attracting so many National conventions.

The organizers can't believe that we have something like it in the province when they see the venue.

The one in the picture is the Tremezzo- Italian inspired architecture, gardens and brick walkways.

Lessandara is made of row houses still with the Tremezzo theme.

The Camella Heights, now pre- selling, (we passed by the site yesterday) is located in a rolling hills terrain- same house models as Tremezzo.

The three subdivisions are interconnected.

Camella Heights and Tremezzo would have their own main entrance gates.

Piazza is one nice corner along Magsaysay. hope they allow an open order policy (for lack of a better term) where waiters from other resto go to the resto where you are to take your orders. they will also deliver them to you. just like what they do in Cereza. One can be in grissini and as one enjoys pasta and pizza, you can ask for the Whattaburger or Kopi Roti staff to take your orders.

ACM ICPC Philippine National Programming Competition 2010

The Ateneo de Naga University, through its CHED Center of Development funding, hosted the fourth Philippine National Inter-Collegiate Programming Competition (ACM ICPC Philippine National Programming Contest 2010) last 20 November 2010. The event was organized by the Computing Society of the Philippines and the College of Computer Studies of Ateneo de Naga. Dr. Rafael P. Saldana was this year`s Contest Director while Dr. Allan A. Sioson was this year`s Deputy Contest Director and Local Organizer. Tertiary students from all over the Philippines converged in Ateneo de Naga to compete in solving ten (10) computing problems prepared by a board of judges headed by Dr. Pablo R. Manalastas of Ateneo de Manila University.

The top three teams all came from UP Diliman. They will represent the Philippines in the upcoming ACM ICPC Asia Regional Contest to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The top three teams are:

Tata Flores Cup 2010

The Tata Flores Cup 2010 was held last 19-21 November at the Ateneo de Naga University Gym. Organized by Coach Jec Claro, Coach Peter Barcelon, and the Ateneo Basketball Program, the three-day event aimed to promote not only the game, but also the values of friendship and fair play.

The main purpose of the Tata Flores Cup (TFC) is to provide opportunities – for the game officials, the opportunity to further hone their officiating skills; for the coaches, their analytical and critical skills; for the crowd, to support more and fall in love with their school and team through the game; and most especially for the players, not only to hone their skills in playing, but to hone themselves as sports men – athletes who value fair play and equal competition – athletes who are humble in victory and graceful in defeat.

This year, TFC is opening opportunities for elementary students, age 12 and under, develop further their talents. It si the aim of the ADNU Basketball Program, through TFC, to create opportunities for those who want to grow more, for those who want to learn more and for those who want to be more.

The said tournament is also a fitting tribute to former Naga City councilor Manuel “Tata” Flores. Tata Flores was an Atenean, whose selfless contribution to the promotion and development of basketball in the City during the 80’s and 90’s paved way to many good basketball players in Naga. Just like the TFC, he provided opportunities for many basketball afficionados in Naga to play the game. His untimely death last 2006 is a big loss to the sporting community of Naga.

Tata Flores was among the first supporters of the ADNU Basketball Program when it was organized back in 2004.

The TFC, on its third year, is a continuation of what Tata Flores started and is a fitting recognition of what he did for basketball as a sport in Naga City.

There must be a lot of demand for housing units in Naga City.

DMCI has already built 3 subdivisions and are building two more.

Avida/Ayala has three sudbivisions.

Fil- Estate has five.

Not to mention local developers like Jamaica (4 Subdivisions), Parkview (4 subdivisions) and Deca Homes (Plenty of low cost housing projects > 6) to name a few.

Never has there been a city in Bicol with this so much Real Estate Boom for the last ten years.

i'm also interested to see the pili groves in this village. must be great to see rows and rows of the fruitbearing hardwood and people gathering the nuts at harvest time.

^^P159k for gov’t workers’ bonuses stolen in Camarines Sur
CALABANGA, Camarines Sur—Cash for bonuses of government employees here was reportedly stolen from the municipal treasurer’s office Monday morning.

Mayor Evelyn Yu said P159,000 in cash was found missing when a janitor discovered that someone had broken into a window at the office.

Yu said the janitor reported the incident at 6 a.m. to the police, whose station was just several meters away from the municipal building where the local government offices are housed.

The mayor said the theft could have occurred Saturday or Sunday night or in the wee hours because several municipal employees were doing overtime work until late Saturday.

She said there was cash at the treasurer’s office because money had just been withdrawn from the bank for the bonuses of the employees.

100 CamSur patients undergo medical operations from 36 surgeons
PILI, Camarines Sur, Nov. 22 (PNA) -- Over 100 patients from all over the province underwent medical operations from the 36 top-caliber surgeons of St. Luke’s Medical Center.

This as Gov. LRay Villafuerte and Vice Gov. Fortunato “Ato” Peña launched the CamSur Surgical Mission, in partnership with the Ramon Tulfo Good Samaritan Foundation, held at the San Jose District Hospital and Bicol Medical Training Center from Nov. 18 to 21.

Patients with cleft palate, thyroid, cyst, ovarian mass, myoma, uterine prolapsed, and hernia availed of the services under the program with specialists in pathology, pulmonary, general surgery, ENT, Internal Medicines, Pediatrics, Anesthesia, OB-Gynecology, Medical Technologists, and volunteers from the newly established Advisory Board of the Office of the Vice Governor and personnel from the Provincial Health Office joining in to assisting.

Provincial Health Officer-in-charge Dr. Adolfo Rosales spearheaded the event in close coordination with the vice governor’s Advisory Board Committee on Community Affairs for Health Director Antonina Capuz.

The comprehensive program on health forms part of the multi-sectoral tasks that the dynamic vice governor is taking on as Task Force on Health Chief in his efforts to further strengthen the thrust of the provincial government in delivering basic services to the people of Camarines Sur that Gov. Clinton tells Filipino Humphrey Fellows to do ‘great things’ on return to PHL
MANILA, Nov. 21 (PNA) -- Six Filipinos who won grants to various U.S. universities as Hubert H. Humphrey Fellows were recently feted by the U.S. Department of State in Washington, in ceremonies keynoted by no less than Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

The delegates are Soraya Faculo, principal of the Cordillera Regional Science High School; Associate professor Serlie Jamias of the University of the Philippines-Los Baños; Atty. Zhella Manrique, assistant provincial prosecutor of Camarines Sur; Police Superintendent and police spokesperson Rommel Miranda of the National Capital Region; Atty. Pepita Jane Petralba, Cebu chief provincial prosecutor; and Professor Luz Taposok, University of Southern Mindanao.

Clinton told the Filipinos, “we expect great things from you when you get home as Humphrey fellows.” She said people-to-people connections through programs such as the Humphrey fellowship serve as one of the foundations of the work done by the State.

Manrique, Miranda and Petralba are currently attending the University of Minnesota, while Faculo goes to the Vanderbilt University in Tennessee. Jamias is attending the University of Maryland, while Taposok is at the University of California in Davis.

Philippine Consul General Nolasco encouraged the delegates to apply and share the knowledge they will acquire to their institutions and communities in the Philippines.

Funded by the State Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, the Humphrey Fellowship program provides professionals from other countries the opportunity to engage in a one year non-degree study in a U.S. university.

Fellows are selected on the basis of a candidate’s potential for leadership and commitment to public service

Still in Washington, nine local government officials from the Philippines traveled recently to the United States to participate in the exchange program organized by the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL).

The group of young political leaders was composed of Councilor Kirk Asis (Bayugan City, Agusan del Sur); Councilor Maria Lina Baura (Tagum City, Davao del Norte); Vice Mayor Conrad Cejoco (Bislig City, Surigao del Sur); Board Member Abeleon Damalerio (Bohol); Board Member Aristotle Gaza (Bataan); Councilor Joseph Juico (Quezon City); Vice Governor Jose Antonio Leviste (Batangas); Councilor Cheryl Sembrano (Villasis, Pangasinan); and Mayor Karen Villanueva (Bais City, Negros Oriental).

The group met with government, corporate and community leaders in Washington D.C. and Kansas and with Philippine embassy officials from October 30 to November 9.

With the embassy, they discussed key issues in the bilateral relations between the Philippines and the United States covering political and security, economic and trade, and the Filipino-American community.

The delegates expressed keen interest on issues that will further shape the Philippines’ relations with the United States, such as the pending Save Our Industries (SAVE) Act, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Thanks Father Xave... i know you always help me with my prayers both for the living and the dead. Just imagine for 2010 ive stayed in 3 areas-- 6 months naga, 4 months Manila and 2 months Dubai/Abu Dhabi... but still i chose to live in Naga as to why only God knows...:)

The BIG "A" update

Got an info from a credible source that the budget allotted originally by the owner of Robertson Mall in constructing its new mall @ Diversion was shifted to the expansion and improvement of his mall branch in Sorsogon. The much-awaited construction of the BIG "A" will be early next year.

So now, Ayala won't partner with Robertson anymore for their Ayala Mall in the city, right? Or will they still have a joint project?

NAGA CITY, CAMARINES SUR – After three years, the annual Animahenasyon 2010 will be held in Naga City in an effort to spur budding Filipino animators in the provinces to go into the industry.

The event, organized by the Animation Council of the Philippines, Inc. (ACPI) and the Ateneo De Naga University will also highlight partnerships between the industry and academic institutions to help develop talents in both 2D and 3D animation among students.

The event’s transfer of venue from Manila to Naga also aims to identify independent animation studios in the provinces and consolidate efforts that will strengthen the industry.

In particular, there have been more independent studios from the provinces that submitted entries for this year’s Animahenasyon 2010 competition.

A total of 143 participants have been accepted to be showcased during the event, which will be held from November 23 to 26. Of this number, 71 are from regional studios and schools while 68 are from Manila.

Four other entries from Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and Iran also made the cut but all of them are from Filipino-owned studios.

ACPI Executive Director Michael Kho Lim said the number of regional entries proves that more talents are coming out of the provinces and can be tapped by the industry for both outsourcing services and to create original material.

Lim said some of these studios are either independent or commercial, which are also offering outsourced services for foreign markets.

“One great thing about this is that graduates of animation can be hired where they graduated. The concentration of outsourced animation work becomes decentralized.”

Lim also noted that the Philippines is one of the top outsourced animation services hubs in the Asia, after India and South Korea. It has approximately 6,000 to 8,000 animators though the demand for outsourced work has been steadily increasing.

“We’re aiming to have 10,000 to 15,000 animators in the next five years,” Lim said.

Part of this year’s activities includes talks from Filipino animators who have worked in foreign studios, like Jess Española from Starz Film Roman.

There are also speeches from Eric Riewer, a professor from France’s prestigious animation school Gobelins l’ecole de l’image, and use of the latest computer servers for animation by technology firm HP (the company that also provides hardware to Dreamworks Animation).

There will also be a feature on the making of the country’s first full length 3D animation RPG Metanoia by Ambient Media.

A lifetime achievement award will also be given to legendary artist, animator, and short film maker Roque Federizon “Roxlee” Lee.

Maybe GMA 7 have not found local advertisers yet in other Bicol provinces so the initial broadcast was in Cam Sur first.

ABC CBN local shows are being shown region wide but with different advertisers from each province.

Except for relay stations, GMA Regional Netwrok group is based only in Naga and does not have offices in other provinces yet.

In contrary ABS CBN has field offices operating in each province with the main being based in Naga.

It's their first show- I believe the coverage will expand in the future once there is an increase demand in advertising. With an increasing demand- they night also expand with field offices to other provinces in Bicol.

I don't think it's a leak.

It's also what I learned from very reliable sources coming from his circle of friends.

But I still have not talked Mr. Obiedo after our last conversation more than a week ago.

Expanding the Robertson operation in Sorsogon is a big plus factor for that province.

yes, rhyz, overnight stay is possible. not sure about overnite rates, though. cottage is around PhP300, regular size.

Credit card is needed.

A barcode would be sent thru text and could also be printed

Barcode sent thru phone or the printout could be scanned by the machine.

No lining up for tickets anymore.

myonee@ sige as of this moment kakadating pa lang ng DFA docs ko via courier and my family still persuading me to stay and accept the job in abu dhabi...pero all my senses are dictating to me to go home and just start life anew there and not here...

Straight from the Horses mouth confirmation.

I just talked to Mr. Jo Osabal the RMN anchor who broke the news of Seven Eleven Stores and identified the businessman franchisee who also happen to be someone I know- but I am not in authority to identify. They are not the Cabral's whom we first thought to be.:)

Yes, Seven Eleven would start construction next year.

Magsaysay Branch will be located at Cereza at the space occupied by Kopi Roti. I don't know what would happen to the coffee shop if they will close it down or move somewhere else as there are still a lot of space left at the said lifestyle center. I will have to ask Mr. Lo about it.

You guys will be so surprised who the Bicolano Frachisee of a total of 18 stores, seven of which will be located in Naga as they are also operating popular convenience stores in Bicol and in Manila. Unfortunately I could not name names.

Don't wonder why if they allow Seven Eleven (and hold your breath guys Wendy's which is 7-11's sister company) to occupy a large building in Centro used to be occupied by a popular fastfood chain...

...that's the tip of the iceberg.

If you can't beat them- join them.:lol:

Yes, they are doing a Robertson- Ayala deal.:)

The building with a blue and yellow dominant color..near Plaza Rizal :) just a guess :)

Hope Kopiroti will just transfer to a new location, dunuh if they are affected by the surge of coffee shops here in Naga.
