Naga Year End Job Fair Dec. 28 (Wed) 8:00AM - 3:00PM STI Covered Court jardet December 20th, 2011, 07:58 AM Got an info from the City PESO that Robertson Centro will also be converted into Puregold Naga branch 2. Another local brand folding up? It looks like Robert has some business interest in Puregold and its a "if you cannot stop them, join them" for him. He was very prominent at the opening of the Puregold Naga. :) oragon.com December 20th, 2011, 08:11 AM Another local brand folding up? It looks like Robert has some business interest in Puregold and its a "if you cannot stop them, join them" for him. He was very prominent at the opening of the Puregold Naga. :) Probably Puregold will just occupy the supermarket section as Robertson only had a renovation of its dept store recently. As to the Landbank office, according to one of its employees, after they transfer to its new building at Panganiban-Magsaysay, their office at Robertson will still serve as an extension office. garzland December 20th, 2011, 08:23 AM ^^Good to know that LandBank at Robertson will still be operating as I don't need to go to their brand new building to withdraw. It would be an additional hassle for me to do so plus the added fare :D Chris2pher December 20th, 2011, 09:47 AM Another local brand folding up? It looks like Robert has some business interest in Puregold and its a "if you cannot stop them, join them" for him. He was very prominent at the opening of the Puregold Naga. :) That was exactly what I had initially thought of that maybe Obiedo made some sort of an arrangement w/ Puregold taking over its supermarket in centro (and not giving it up entirely) as it is his Villa Caceres Hotel's food pantry. garzland December 20th, 2011, 03:27 PM ^^Why give the Supermarket up when in fact it's making profit the most? sonofignatius December 20th, 2011, 04:39 PM porta mariae and the moon http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/267863_1753453195765_1221968915_31372064_565988_n.jpg errol pederio on FB sonofignatius December 20th, 2011, 04:43 PM lupi-sipocot http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/291778_2374396680670_1273151100_32921646_355486922_n.jpg rodolfo san buenaventura virtus on FB sonofignatius December 20th, 2011, 04:51 PM Starbucks Naga Magsaysay Av http://a6.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/385904_2479582383021_1056362743_32695379_1612156412_n.jpg arra suarez on fb http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/377515_2276806199263_1221968915_31724615_20550897_n.jpg errol pedrio on fb http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/374592_2210192861212_1439215648_2136183_1515418700_n.jpg lolit de castro on fb http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/386471_183475268408487_100002380460716_376417_1889916642_n.jpg http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/309770_182304335192247_100002380460716_373947_182248479_n.jpg tintin dihiansan on fb sonofignatius December 20th, 2011, 04:59 PM something familiar in the Naga landscape http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/401442_2279770633372_1221968915_31725740_639666298_n.jpg errol pedrio on FB sonofignatius December 20th, 2011, 05:00 PM http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/404934_2283265920752_1221968915_31727337_1588406464_n.jpg errol pederio on FB garzland December 20th, 2011, 05:02 PM A boom in Philippine tourism Posted by Online on Dec 13th, 2011 // Comments off There are many of things going for Philippine tourism. Tourism in the country is booming, thanks to the warmth and hospitality of Filipinos and natural attractions, and historical and cultural sites. More tourists are expected to arrive for the Christmas season. In the first nine months of 2011, 2.88 million tourists came to the country, 12 percent higher than last year. Domestic travel remains the backbone of the Philippine tourism industry. There has been a marked improvement in domestic tourism, as municipalities nationwide promote their tourist spots. Airline companies, through their promo fares, make it possible for Filipinos to fly and visit the country’s tourist spots. With the growing trend in regional travel, the government is looking at getting more tourists from neighboring countries. Malaysia has been among the country’s top 12 sources of foreign visitors in the past five years. Last year, 79,694 Malaysians visited the Philippines, the highest visitor arrivals on record. The figure for the first nine months of 2011 is already about 69,000, an 18 percent growth from last year. It is projected that the number of arrivals will hit 85,000 by year’s end. The goal of the government is to increase the number of tourists to 6.3 million international arrivals and over 32 million domestic travelers by 2016. From Metro Manila to the 12 regions of the country, there are destinations that tourists will certainly admire and appreciate. The top domestic tourist destinations outside the metropolis are Camarines Sur, Cebu, Davao City, Cagayan Valley, Baguio, Boracay, Zambales, Puerto Princesa, Bohol, Negros Oriental, Camiguin Island, and Ilocos Norte. There are still many untapped natural resources in the country; they are waiting to be discovered and developed for the enjoyment of local tourists, including balikbayans who continue to come in droves, especially at this time of the year. source (http://www.tempo.com.ph/2011/a-boom-in-philippine-tourism/#.Tu3sw-xMSsY) sonofignatius December 20th, 2011, 05:10 PM ^^:cheers::cheers: sonofignatius December 20th, 2011, 05:13 PM san francisco church http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/216630_1684356550283_1278710168_31494214_1991132_n.jpg eric ian baduria sereno sonofignatius December 20th, 2011, 05:28 PM ^^ marhay na odto padre! They won't be outdone unless they have done something bigger to compete against the giants. Robertson will be remembered as the first big mall complete with cinemas. I agree with you guys. Robertson Mall Naga- Centro had (if I remember right) 2 Cinemas, escalators (the first in the city), huge basement supermarket and a three level Department store. Slowly the cinemas and escalators disappeared and were never seen again until LCC Central Mall Naga came along. LCC Central Mall Naga also started with a huge supermarket and department store, large food court and the very first indoor theme park in Bicol called Fantasy Land complete with Roller Coaster and Bump Cars and a huge gaming arcade, Even before SM came in, LCC decided to lease the Fantasy Land space to tenants- among them was Jollibee. They removed the space- occupying roller coaster and bump cars in favor for the more compact World of Fun and Tom’s World as tenants. That move, I believe spelled doom in LCC. My daughter who was very young by then was asking- what happened to Fantasy Land Papa? The theme park may not be earning as much as what Jollibee, World of Fun and Tom’s World are paying but it was attracting the w whole family crowd looking for a complete air- conditioned weekend getaway within the city. When SM came, I was expecting them to fight head on. I was happy to see the mall being renovated and beautified, but lo and behold- they made the supermarket smaller, squeezed in the department store to the old supermarket area together with the Home Center. LCC Home Center used to have a separate two- level building at the back of the mall. I understand that building would then be occupied by Convergys. With the very beautiful and spacious SM Mall, the bright and airy Robinson’s supermarket in E Mall and the huge Puregold Mall as main competitors- I would not wonder if these local malls would fold up in the near future if they would not get their act together. H’wag naman sana. Robertson has been too complacent. They thought that their location is the edge and could be the reason not to innovate but shoppers nowadays are choosy and always compare everything to SM that's why LCC is renovating their mall that has resemblance with SM. I went to LCC yesterday and amazed to see many shoppers shopping in the department store and other stores in the mall. Their food court was even full unlike the previous weeks. This happens only when LCC started to renovate their mall. Their department store is somewhat looks like SM department store...Though the renovation is still on-going, customers can already feel the new LCC is really coming. garzland December 21st, 2011, 03:19 AM and the escalators  balik balik kadto ta nali pa sa escalator. :ohno::ohno::ohno: Before the news of Puregold take over of Robertson ALDP, I noticed that they started using their old plastic white bags (90's pa at un), with their signature tagline "class na mura pa" and even reach the point that they are using the long green plastic bags use only for garments and school supply. Yesterday, drop by at Robertson Centro and was surprise that they are packing their goods with ordinary white plastic bags. Is this a sign of Puregold Centro? see, pao remembers! maayong aga sa tanan -- sweet, sugared greetings from bacolod, naga's sister city! sonofignatius December 21st, 2011, 04:29 AM http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/383839_10150525339980867_117387315866_10956332_115216785_n.jpg a surprise each day for PAL's 12 days of christmas promo www.philippineairlines.com sonofignatius December 21st, 2011, 04:30 AM Gov tells tourism players: Up ante By Juan Escandor Jr. Inquirer Southern Luzon 2:01 am | Wednesday, December 21st, 2011 NAGA CITY—Camarines Sur Gov. But maybe the supermarket [as well as its department store - of which we all know is facing tough competition from its more prominent peers] isn't really making any substantial revenue that prompted its management to device a plan on how they could draw more crowds and turn its current mediocre state into grand one? With a crowd drawer like Puregold (of which i really now have a strong hunch that Obiedo is a stock holder of its branch in the city) as Robertson's anchor supermarket, they're probably hoping their newly renovated department store will also enjoy the benifit of an increased foot traffic. I could be totally wrong into thinking that Obiedo, as wise as a successful old Chinese businessman he is and who employ a Manila based business consultant, wouldn't give up Roberson centro without attaching any strings on this particular property because for one it sits on a very, very prime location that can be furthered turned into a shopping center with condominium units on its top floors development. Barrameda The total amount of money that ebbs and flows in Naga is large enough to justify the boomtown image of the city. Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) Chairman Philip Imperial estimates the flow of money at around P2 billion on regular days and at least P800 million during holidays. The figures represent the combined tax collections, profits and savings. The bulk of the money that goes around Naga City each day, Imperial says, is shared by at least four industries. These include the food, service, and information and communication technology (ICT industries). The service industry includes hotels and convention halls while the information and communications technology (ICT) industry encompasses business processing and outsourcing (BPO), which is buoyed by the emergence of call centers in the city and its suburbs. GROWTH PROSPECTS He also projects that industries in Naga City will grow at varying rates in the next few years. Cottage industry (souvenir shops, accessories, pasalubong shops) will flourish and survive at geometric rate while the service industry will grow at the same rate as it has done in the past five years, he says. Publishing and advertising industries are expected to boom with the emergence of tarpaulin shops and new establishments that provide media solutions to meet the increasing demand for advertising and publicity. Meanwhile, the prospects of accommodation businesses and marketing and events firms will be dependent on the tourism industry. Probably tomorrow will be the opening of 7-Eleven Ateneo branch. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND A PROSPEROUS NAGA, IRIGA CITY AND CAMARINES SUR :banana::applause::applause: wow that's a huge amount of money. Naga is Naga! trully the econmic center of this region. People here have high purchasing power. with the international/national brands here in the city - coffee shops, pizza house, restos, RTWs, malls and etc who are confident enough to put up and sustain business here. And with our local brands that continue to compete and survive, Naga, Iriga, CamSur will continue to boom! And this will also create a domino effect to other towns in CamSur. CamSur, CamSoar! sonofignatius December 23rd, 2011, 07:03 AM Another good project by the governor which i hope being seen to it that this is followed up by monitoring to ensure that these seedlings grow up to become trees in the future to cover our mountains and watershed. We should have learned from the Ormoc experience. The CDO disaster is another grim reminder. :) :):banana::banana: At last, this is being prioritized now which should have been just after the typhoon. This is the window of Caramoan Peninsula where every constituent and tourist go back and forth to the peninsula- the very reason to prioritize it. caramoan has brought much to the province chest; it only deserves this attention. May parts na mas malala pa dyan/ I remember that bridge na ang width nya garo 3/4 lang kang width kan tinampo. Kaya dai pwede magsabatan an duwang truck or bus. Jeep lang. And pati yung tulay na yun lubak lubak, ten meters lang gayud ito. hopefully, your effort to expose these bad roads here will bear fruit- and lead to long-awaited positive results, geri. hope the matter reaches the officials concerned. akosijamir December 23rd, 2011, 07:08 AM “Naga’s tracking app forewarned Sendong’s fury” By JUAN ESCANDOR NAGA CITY---Locally innovated typhoon-tracking app has correctly foretold the track of deadly Typhoon Sendong (Washi) early morning Friday last week several hours it rampaged through Cagayan de Oro City that left more than a thousand dead and homeless. mobile gadgets jointly produced by programmers from Ateneo de Naga University and the typhoon forecasting center of the Naga College Foundation, had released an advisory as early as 6:00 a.m. of Friday, Dec. 16, the intensifying Typhoon Sendong to be passing Cagayan de Oro in the evening of the same day. “On the forecast track, the core of Washi will make landfall over Surigao del Sur later this afternoon. It will then move accross Northern portion of Bukidnon and will pass very closely to Cagayan de Oro this evening,” the tracking update of iTyphoon showed. It further advised: “Residents living in low-lying and mountainous areas under Public Storm Signal are alerted against flashflood, mudslides and landslides...” It forecasted the rainfall accumulation to be “High” at 200 mm and rain rate to be “Heavy” at 20-30 mm/hour. The brainchild of programmer Magno Conag III and typhoon enthusiast Michael Padua, the iTyphoon is an app which is focused on typhoons entering the area of responsibility of the Philippines and made easy through animation, graphic display, concise forecast using visual language and complemented with access to Google map. Released to Android market in Google on Sept. 6 and iOS in Apple on Oct. 7, the i-Typhoon app is downloadable in the two Internet sites. Conag enthused that the iTyphoon was listed on the top of new apps downloaded by users for seven straight weeks since Oct. 7 in the Apple site for gadgets using iOS, Apple’s mobile operating system. Conag noted it had been on No. 4 in the ‘‘What’s Hot’’ featured list with close to 6,000 users from the Philippines, the United States of America, Singapore and Hong Kong. source: Bicol Mail (http://www.bicolmail.com/issue/2011/dec22/b-story.html) ^^ great innovation from Naga's Mind and Heart! from the passion to track typhoons in order to help/warn other and to the excellent program concept. whew! this is a great help to everyone, not just to our government agencies but also to every individuals who are always victims of storms. this is one practical app that every tab and gadget should have. sonofignatius December 23rd, 2011, 07:19 AM http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/312948_300782486604515_100000182986968_1395430_293298680_n.jpg http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/301907_300782509937846_100000182986968_1395431_1017332319_n.jpg Starting last week of September, we noticed that we have 1 typhoon per week: MINA, NONOY, ONYOK, PEDRING, QUIEL, and today, RAMON. Bongat has declared this city as a “Zone of Discipline” and adopted for the purpose “The Ten Little Things a Proud Nagueño Should Do” as its advocacy for responsible citizenship. Inspired by the city’s vision statement, the city mayor stated in his proclamation that Nagueños have envisioned the city as a model of good governance and responsible citizenship driven by a shared development direction that is crafted, implemented and continually improved in an inclusive manner and sustained by a citizenry that asserts and accepts its role and responsibilities in nation-building. The proclamation underscores that discipline and moral values are the keys to responsible citizenship. “It is through discipline that we become productive, affluent, strong, and an enlightened people.” In order to make effective the declaration, “The Ten Little Things a Proud Nagueño Should Do,” which the mayor himself penned, has been adopted as the city’s advocacy on responsible citizenship. The “Ten Little Things a Proud Nagueño Should Do” has been inspired by the more popular “12 Little Things a Filipino Should Do,” by Atty. Alex Lacson, a fraternity brod of the city mayor at the UP College of Law. [There was] no fastfood restaurant. I don’t remember eating out. All we had was the cinema.” Back then, Naga City residents had already heard of the arrival of McDonald’s in Metro Manila and were already curious with the food the multinational restaurant had to offer. Camarines Sur Association of Bankers President Byronjose M. Barrameda, however, says that no particular industry in Naga monopolizes sizeable contribution to the total amount of money that circulates in the city throughout the year. Businesses tend to flourish and gain over others during certain seasons, Barrameda explains. “During fiestas, graduations, Christmas, New Year and other holidays or seasons associated with gift-giving, profits of stores that sell gift items naturally skyrocket,” he says. Bookstores and bookshops, according to him, gain most during school openings while hotels and restaurants accumulate more profit during special events and conventions in the city and in Camarines Sur due to the influx of visitors. Physicians, health specialists and pharmacies achieve their peak income during rainy season when the cold weather result to illnesses. The food industry, he says, gain steadily. Barrameda says all businesses, particularly those that supply raw materials, practically gain more during gift-giving seasons and special events But Imperial is quick to point out that although new industries keep the city afloat, Naga still sees its agriculture sector profiting the most. “If our local government and the Department of Tourism (DOT) would make improvements on infrastructure, security, promotion and incentive packages, we would be able to exploit the entire potential of our tourist spots,” Imperial notes. “Despite competitions from other municipalities and cities, Naga sees a bright and unhampered progress during the next decades.” Since Asia is rapidly growing in financial and economics. A new Millionaires in Asia is growing so fast. I believe Naga, Iriga City and Camarines Sur Enterpreneurs are growing in numbers too of millionaires  MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NAGA, IRIGA CITY AND CAMARINES SUR. The Bicol Express now runs daily between Manila and Naga City. The railway is expected to spur activities between Bicol and Calabarzon-Metro Manila, and boost local trade and tourism by connecting provinces. The Bicol Express transports passengers from Tutuban in Manila to Naga City in Camarines Sur with daily trips at 6:30 p.m. The Philippine National Railways (PNR) is set to deploy special trips, depending on passenger demand, like what it did during the All Saints’ Day break. It is ready for the influx of passengers who may opt to ride the “Bicol Express” than go to the provinces by bus or car. Fares are lower and travel time is faster by one hour than the 10-hour trips of air-conditioned buses. The Philippines received 20 refurbished train cars from the Japanese government, paving the way for more commuters to use the Bicol Express. Another 30 coaches are set to arrive. With more coaches and increasing passenger demand, PNR can add train trips to better service its patrons in Metro Manila and in Bicol, which would mean less waiting time for passengers. The refurbished coaches offer comfort to passengers. Three of the coaches are air-conditioned and can accommodate 81 passengers. The PNR expects passenger base to increase from 400,000 a month to 600,000. The train service to Albay will start its regular daily trips in January, 2012, with the completion of the Travesia bridge in Guinobatan town that would extend the line to Camalig, Daraga, and Legazpi City. Extension of railway connection to Batangas, Camarines Norte, and Matnog, Sorsogon, are also planned. In 2006, the operation of the Bicol Express was suspended after super typhoon Reming battered the Bicol region, damaging lines, bridges, and railroad tracks leading to the province. In 2007, the government started a rehabilitation project, removed informal settlers from PNR right-of-way, revitalized commuter services in Metro Manila, and partly restored the Manila-Bicol route. As the Bicol Express provides a good alternative for commuters, the government will continue to improve its services to benefit more commuters. When the Manila-Bicol route is fully revived, it would mean more jobs in the countryside, lesser expense, faster travel, and smoother movement of goods and services. Luis Raymund Villafuerte rallied tourism industry players in the region to raise their levels of branding and marketing following the successful holding of the 22nd Philippine Ad Congress in the province. The Bicol Association of Travel Agencies and Tour Operators (Batto) congratulated the governor for the success of the Ad Congress that also brought a spike in tourist bookings in the province and income for tourism players. Catchy, positive Batto sponsored a lunch ceremony for the governor recently. “The secret in successful ventures like tour and travel businesses is having catchy branding, effective marketing and good service,” the governor said in a speech during the event. Villafuerte said positive promotion to outweigh the negative cases of a place was important for tourists to come. He said negative cases couldn’t be prevented in any place, but excellent service, warm reception, courtesy and hospitality could outweigh these negative factors. “Before you know it, there will be repeat visitors, tugging along with them their family and friends because of their positive experience,” Villafuerte said. 2-syllable trend Villafuerte said tourism promotion required out-of-the-box ideas and catchy phrases. “We branded the province as CamSur, following trend in international promotion that uses two syllables to promote products and places,” he said. Villafuerte said tourists tend to remember two-syllable names like CamSur. He said this was true also in the case of Boracay, which many tourists now refer to as “Bora.” Package tours The governor said there was also a need to prepare menus for package tours that he said would be cost-effective. CamSur, he said, would continue to draw in tourists because Bicol is a “gateway” for the Visayas and Mindanao. He said extra care should be taken in providing tourists with their best experience because any negative experience would have a multiplier effect on any place’s tourism business. sonofignatius December 25th, 2011, 11:46 AM May the love of God always shine in your life! Gran Prix Econotel By Louise M. Francisco from Entrepreneur Philippines Magazine, May 2010 A chain of budget hotels gives franchisees an intriguing investment alternative There’s an ocean of choices for travelers and tourists apart from the five-star hotels and small inns found throughout the Philippines. A Swiss-educated Filipino hotelier, however, is giving weary trekkers a handful of great alternatives with a chain of budget hotels across the country—and has opened up his business to franchising. Collectively, the Gran Prix Hotels and Resorts have rooms from economy first class, giving guests a range of options to satisfy their pockets. It’s how Jan Vincent Kierulf, president of the hotel chain, wants it to be. “Conforming to the name itself, which means ‘grand prize’ in French, we want our clients to feel they received a grand prize in our rates and services every time they visit any of our branches,” says Kierulf, who gained his Bachelor of Arts in International Hotel Management at the IMI International Hotel Management Institute of Switzerland. With a capital of P12 million, the 42-year-old hotelier put up his first econotel in Pasay City in 2004. Branches in Cubao, Quezon City— like the Pasay branch located near the terminals of Luzon’s major bus lines—and Cebu City soon followed. Gran Prix also operates an “express inn” in Tarlac City for business people and transients and a “hideaway” in the resort island of Boracay. Its latest addition is a boutique hotel in Manila’s Ermita tourist district, which opened in December 2009. The room rates for each branch vary, but the lowest starts at just P799 per guest a night for a deluxe room at the Tarlac branch. The priciest is for a suite in Boracay, at P5,580 a person a night. Judging by Gran Prix’s expansion plans—it aims to double its branches to 10 in the next three years—its guests seem to be coming in droves. Kierulf says: “We are now looking at locations in Cagayan de Oro, Tacloban, Dumaguete, Bohol, Baguio, Ilocos Sur, Camarines Sur and Bicol for our future expansion.” from CDO thread bobbymay74 December 26th, 2011, 01:13 AM any info about this project?
