Iyo, Renz. Su mga iskolar man baga daa niya an mga extra duman

ahahaha... kaya palan.. hehehe.. haizt... remember kan nagkasabay ugwa presentation ang duwang lado, ang saro sa USI Auditorium and duman sa Villa Caceres Hotel, I just forgot the exact date but mga August 2011 siguro. Everybody is expecting that the proponent of the bill would be there sa Villa Caceres Hotel to explain things and they even confirmed na makakaabot sinda, but unfortunately si gov lang ang yaon.

hmmmm.. napano daw? hehe... :)

Maybe adapting a design resembling this fence below could put more emphasis on the character of the city, especially on the bare fences of the USI-Palacio area. The masonry of this old structure near lerma/panganabian area is quite the same with the minor seminary's, the fence of the old house in elias angeles near e-mall, and the fences near the ramaida centrum that are already painted white today.

I'm still not impressed by the new design of San Francisco. The neo-gothic bell tower for example looks very out of place in the current exterior. I really hope they don't remove it together with the historical brick tower. First thing they should have done before redesigning the church was to consider the context of the site which have existing historical and iconic structures.

the new design looks good. But it just doesnt fit well in the reconstruction of a historical church. I wonder how the old church looked like before the wwii. this is by far the oldest picture i've seen from the net.

Sana maganda ang layout ng buildings. So excited to see its rendering. :D

Nuarin daw maopen ang Bench Fix? :/

According to radio interview of Mr. ALDP himself the ALDP Condos would be composed of 10 Condo buildings, 8 storey's each.

Why don't they make it a high-rise instead (say 30 floors up) of building so many in order to save lots....10 condo buildings is GREAT.. I didn't realize that the demand for condominium is that high... Or most probably, they would build them after they succeeded with the first one and not actually building them all at once.

I think last summer was the renovation. I'm just disappointed that the vintage WW2 jeep was no longer to be seen. If we can still recall, at the entrance of Kayumangi resort is an old WW2 jeep....a silent witness to the grim experience of Naga during those chaotic days.

If i'm not mistaken the Lawin is owned by Msgr. Nono Zanado

I think there are 3 or 4 lawin inside the cathedral patio. They should be in the wild..right? though they are not listed endangered. Disappointing :ohno:

Do we have the grand old pics of PNB in our thread archive? I think it was mentioned here how magnificent PNB was, a water fountain infront rising almost 2 floors.[/QUOTE]

too bad the vintage jeepney went with broken tiles of kayumanggi.

i still remember the big pond in front of the PNB Bldg sans the fountain as it had long ceased to spout by my childhood years. it was removed when the bldg was renovated for the common PNB look.

when the structure was there it served a good purpose many times- for spectators to stand on as they watched Dalan sa Kalangitan and other events in the crowded Kiosko/ Plaza quezon. It was a perfect place to be for the military parade pass-in-review by the countless marching units!

According to radio interview of Mr. ALDP himself the ALDP Condos would be composed of 10 Condo buildings, 8 storey's each.

taller than PNB :-)

Bicol revs up economic engine
By Fernan Gianan, Jonas Cabiles Soltes, Mar Arguelles

In this Year of the Water Dragon, Bicol is poised to take off. The optimism stems from the region’s economic growth in previous years as most of its provinces turned to tourism and services to boost their standings. Some, however, were hobbled by challenges brought about by high power costs.

Why not indeed?

Kinalas Party in Naga.

While they have the traditional Crayfish parties in Sweden and Finland- Naguenos can promote Kinalas Party to our tourists.

:banana::banana::banana:
i hope someone puts up a kinalasan in the airport area-- just a carenderia-like place to retain the kinalas ambiance :)

one of caramoan's many must-sees!

not just the beaches and sandbars, caves and rocks but historic landmarks and religious shrines like this are worth one's time :)

i can just imagine the patience and zeal of the Spanish missionaries and the locals in building a structure like this in those times -- sourcing and transporting all the heavy materials to a place as remote as caramoan in an age of cumbersome travel by sea and land! :)

this is patience and zeal in stone :)

Just to highlight some interesting facts

CamSur-driven

In the first-class province of Camarines Sur (annual income: more than P450 million), which is embroiled in a politically charged “partition” issue, a sustained boost in the economy fueled by steady tourist arrivals is expected.

Provincial administrator Fermin Mabulo, who spoke in behalf of Gov. Luis “LRay” Villafuerte, says that aside from tourism, the financial standing of the largest province of Bicol was fed by a boom in the housing industry.

The entry of real estate giant Ayala Land in the property adjacent to the Capitol complex would be complemented by the improvement of the facilities of the capitol, including the Camarines Sur Watersports Complex (CWC), he says.

“The improvement of the CWC is included in the overall development of 9,000 square meters of provincial land near the capitol, which would be turned into a convention area as Camarines Sur poises to market itself as the convention hub of the country,” says Mabulo.

While CamSur would be harshly affected by the cut in the internal revenue allotment from the national government this year, he says it would remain an affluent province—even if the proposed Nueva Camarines province materializes. He says the partition could hurt growth plans, but he remains hopeful it would not push through.

In Naga, planning and development coordinator Wilfredo Prilles says the city’s economy did very well amid continuing challenges, mainly coming from a slowdown in the property sector.

Last year, the total number of registered firms grew by 33 percent in terms of new business and renewals, says Prilles. “For 2012, we expect this trend to continue,” he adds.

“We see more businesses opening at the same pace, especially with the PNR (Philippine National Railways) services to Bicol now restored. Tourism will continue to be a sunshine industry, with at least two hotels expecting to operate next year,” he says.

In Iriga, tourism is expected to provide an “additional shot in the arm in the short term” as Iriga stages the second “Gayon Bikol” Festival in February, says city information officer Francisco Peñones Jr.

Maj. Angelo Guzman, spokesperson of the Army’s 9th Infantry Division based in Camp Elias Angeles in Pili, Camarines Sur, sees “improving peace situation” as the government’s anti-insurgency program that was implemented starting last year “was slowly harvesting its fruits.”

He claims that more communist rebels will go back to the fold of the law because of dwindling mass support.

CALABANGA, Camarines Sur (Jan 22, 2012) —The local government of this town has launched a create solid waste management program called “Plastic-to-Rice-Swap” that gives residents 1 kilo of rice for every half kilo of plastic garbage they collect.

Strict screening to reduce fish cage operators in Lake Buhi
http://www.voxbikol.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/400xY/LakeBuhi_0.jpg

BUHI, Camarines Sur (Jan 22, 2012) — Starting this year, the local government of this town shall be very selective in issuing permits for fish cage operations at Lake Buhi with end view of salvaging the viability of the lake as a fishing ground by progressively reducing the number of cage operators that has ballooned to 1,037.

The Lake Development Office of this town is tasked to implement policy decisions to allow only local residents to engage in commercial fishing activity and permitting only 20 to 25 fish cages restricted to an area of 160-hectares, or 10% of the total 1,600 hectares of Lake Buhi.Read more (http://www.voxbikol.com/article/strict-screening-reduce-fish-cage-operators-lake-buhi)

Ayala is coming...very soon!

A visiting balikbayan-cousin who just finished his schooling at U Berkeley shared to me his monthlong experience here in Naga, Cam Sur.

His top 3 priorities for his visit are; indulge Bicol cuisine, try wakeboarding and try a different extreme sports - as he's a greco roman player of his school.

For his Bicol gluttony. We tried the shellfish menu at Geewan coupled with fresh lumpia, the delictable sweets at Geewan and Bob Marlin's all Bicolano dishes. After a day of eating at our hearts content, he admit that Bicolano dishes are somehow a fusion of Chinese and Western foods found in the Latin cities. (haven't tried both, I just remain mum with his reviews:)).

Wakeboarding. A smooth ride for a newbie but one thing lacking is the presence of other amenities and recreation. he added that adding 2 or 3more pools with varying motif may somehow ease the boredom of those not into wakeboarding. The soon operation of Ayala is the answer to his request. He also added the inclusion of crash course for wakeboarding as no one was there to give him tips on wake 101. He circled the CWC lagoon 3x and he's done, aching muscles and regular splunges finally made him realized he's not into wakeboarding.

What thrills him most, is his constant request to ride on "skates" from Diversion road passing through greenfields leading to Pili town. He then tried the "koto-koto" ride somewhere in Sipocot.

He's fascinated with "bulastog", "isaw" and never ceases requesting for "balut" but only crave for the white part.

Overall, before heading to Thailand for another trip, he concluded that Cam Sur still has vast resources neglected just waiting to be tap and use at its fullest.

Contrary to claims of some quarters, Bicol tourism is up due in large part to CamSur! Go CamSur!

AFTER 28 YEARS
Archbishop Legaspi, D.D.
to leave a legacy of growth
By JUAN ESCANDOR JR.

NAGA CITY --- Still clueless as to whom the Vatican will pick to succeed him, Archbishop Leonardo Z. Legaspi of Caceres, who is a little more than one year passed the retirement age of 75, is about to leave a legacy of growth of the Catholic Church in Naga City and Camarines Sur.

In his 28 years of reign as archbishop, Legaspi was able to almost double the number of parishes from 39 to 75 and from at least two to an average of eight ordinations per year.

At present there are 230 priests of which 175 were ordained under his watch. Aside from the parishes, 34 religious congregations for women and eight religious congregations for men are based within the area of jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Caceres.

Is it Ayala Mall or Ayala Technohub?

If it's Ayala Mall, great! If it's Ayala Technohub, greater!

I believe we need Ayala Technohub more than a mall since we are already full of malls and what we need are industries that would really employ and give decent wage. However, a mall that is Ayala tops all the malls we have, better than SM! :okay:

Services undisturbed by P42m ira cutback
Naga overshoots business tax target
By Jason B. Neola

NAGA CITY --- Amassing a collection of P134, 887,838.94 in business tax via city hall’s Business One Stop Shop (BOSS) that received taxpayers from January 2-22, this year, the City Government of Naga is optimistic that it will meet its social and economic services targets despite the P42-M cutback in this year’s Internal Revenue Allotment.

The revenue collection overshot the city government’s P125-M target for this year. In 2010, the City Treasurer’s Office registered P101, 647, 732. 61 in business tax collections which climbed to P124, 372, 845.75 in 2011.

In Real Property Tax, the city government chalked up P42, 297, 674.46 in 2010 which improved to P58, 734, 365.37 last year. This year’s data for RPT will be available by the end of March 2012.

Naga's pride captures 2 top crowns
in Manila age group championship

http://www.bicolmail.com/issue/2012/jan26/pictures/xpride.gif
WONDER GIRL. Eleven-year-old Monica Therese Cruz of Naga City rules the age group tennis championship at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.

LIVING up to her lofty moniker “Tennis Wonder Girl," Naga City's pride, Monica Therese Cruz, capped the championship crown in the 12 & Under Girls Singles Category of the prestigious 23rd Andrada Age Group Tennis Championship held Jan. 2 to 8, 2012 at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center in Manila.

The score of 6-1, 6-0 in the finals proved Monica was too strong for the seeded No. 2 player, Rafaela Villanueva. And as if that achievement was not enough, she went on to win the championship crown in the 14 & Under Girls Doubles Category together with her partner, Nicole Amistad. What makes her triumph more significant though is the fact that Monica, 11 years old, was fighting against 14-year-old competitors.

Currently ranked Number 4 nationally in the 12 & Under Girls Category, Monica Cruz has already amassed enough points to propel her to the top once the new rankings will have been determined by Philippine Tennis Association by the end of January.

There's already Ayala Technohub in Iloilo I think so it's not far fetched to have one like that and that is really what we need...

:okay:

whichever it is, Ayala's brand of malls -- green elegance :) -- will be a most welcome presence in this part of the region.

^^Ayala malls are more elegant than SM and considered to be an upper class mall.

And just like what I said previously, having the big 3 (SM, Robinson, and Ayala) means no more other malls should be permitted to invest in the city because they are already the best of the best....

Bicol Air: Flag carrier soon to soar
By Jose B. Perez, Editor

NAGA CITY --- With only the minor details being mapped out, Bicol will soon have its own airline carrier with this city as the base of operations.

Meeting with City Mayor John Bongat yesterday, Captain Ramon M. Torres, president and chief operating officer of South West Air Corporation told Bicol Mail in an exclusive interview that his company will soon launch the “Boutique Air Taxi” operation in Bicol that will service passengers from Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes and Masbate, with their cities or capital towns as major hubs and from thereon fly passengers to and from Manila and farther to Caticlan (Boracay) in the Visayas and El Nido and Puerto Prinsesa in Palawan.

The newest airline carrier, which has been registered as “Bicol Air Express,” will be the country’s practical alternative to inter-island travel, possibly turning sleepy towns to ones with robust economies,” Torres said. Specifically, it will connect prime tourist destinations from the Eastern to the Western side of the country, interconnecting the Bicol-Visayas-Palawan triangle route.

^^Ayala malls are more elegant than SM and considered to be an upper class mall.

And just like what I said previously, having the big 3 (SM, Robinson, and Ayala) means no more other malls should be permitted to invest in the city because they are already the best of the best....

Based on official press releases all posted previously on this thread- from PHINMA that owns Microtel Hotel stating they are building a hotel in an Ayala Hub in Naga City (which may mean CamSur), and this time from Provincial Administrator Fermin Mabulo confirming their patnership with the Ayala Land, I think the posh Ayala Mall may come up ahead of Robinson's.

Aside from acquiring a property in Naga City we have not heard any official press release coming from RLC that they are building a mall this year.

Although we have based our Robinson's speculation on them (the company) acquiring a lot in the city and from two (very reliable) high ranking officials of RLC none of these statments were officially confirmed formally by any press statement. In reality these RLC officials are just like us- speculating until further confirmation.:)

Anyway, with or without Robinson's yet- I'm happy we're having an Ayala Mall very soon.

We just have to be contented with the Robinson's Supermarket at E Mall for the moment.

Peñafrancia de Mayo 2012

http://www.penafrancia.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/santacruzan-475x250.jpg

The regular monthly meeting of the Basilica priests this month focused on activities for summer, dubbed Peñafrancia de Mayo, to avoid previous use of the word “festival” that has become closely associated with non-religious events. The planning starts this early because in May 2012, Ina’s basilica will celebrate the 30th anniversary of its solemn blessing and dedication that took place May 22, 1982 and officiated by the late Jaime Cardinal Sin.

Five major activities are slated: (1) Archdiocesan Pilgrimage and Flores de Mayo on the four Saturdays of May to be assigned to the four districts of the Archdiocese of Caceres; (2) INA’s Visit to the Naga City People’s Mall; (3) Reyna Elena and Santacruzan 2012; (4) 30th Anniversary Dedication Mass and Ground Breaking of the site of the new Museo de Peñafrancia and Center for Marian Studies; and (5) Medical and Dental Mission for the Children of Barangay Balatas.

The Our Lady of Peñafrancia Association (OLPA) spearheads the search for Reyna Elena 2012, a fund-raising activity to generate funds for the construction of the new Museo de Peñafrancia and Center for Marian Studies, which will be erected within the Basilica compound. It will house artifacts, paintings, photos and documents related to Ina’s more than 300 year-old devotion, and a modest library for studies and research on the Blessed Virgin Mary. Let us help put up the Museo de Peñafrancia and Center for Marian Studies! (Msgr. Rodel Cajot)

Five banks more opening this year with three confirmed.

Naga City would the having its 6th Banco de Oro Bank and 4th (or is it 5th?) MetroBank.

BSP confirmed that Naga City and CamSur is the center of Trade in Industry.

Tourism driven economy.

Way to go CamSur.

So, Ayala mall will be coming here first? That's unexpected and I excited about it... Whoever comes first doesn't matter what is important is they they will both come here ...:banana::banana:

That's according to his dad who runs a business in Pili centro.

I am looking a Nuvali like project in CWC. A townhomes, a lifestyle center/mall and of course wakeboarding.

The investment of Gov. Lray and tie up with Ayala by hosting a wakeboarding facility at Nuvali, Laguna propels the realization of this BIG project in Cam Sur.

^^It's because of the presence of CWC.. I guess, it is patterned after the Nuvali in Laguna where there is a wakeboarding facility and an ayala lifestyle center... That's probably one reason why Ayala chose Pili...

And it's good actually that they have chosen Pili instead of Naga. Naga is already developed and what we need is an equal distribution of development, spread out across the province and Pili is just one of the places that badly needs that... :okay:And besides, Pili is a city in the making, the most qualified for cityhood in the province as of to date...

It would depend on the land area I guess.. If the lot is huge, it could mean a mall with 2 floors just like SM but if it the lot is small then expect a higher mall....I don't think they would open up a mall twice the size of SM... The demand is just enough for tourists in that area.

Dining with Bob Marlin
YOU MIGHT have assumed that this restaurant is home to Jamaican cuisine, particularly seafood. The word play between the name of the famous Jamaican artist Bob Marley and the fish marlin aside—Bob Marlin Restaurant & Grill actually serves well-loved Filipino dishes amid a smooth Rastafarian ambiance.

The Bob Marlin brand originated from Camarines Sur. It was brought to Cebu by young chef Evan Lester Fernando. Tweaking the menu choices a bit, then adding his own touch of culinary magic, Fernando made sure that the Cebu-based Bob Marlin offers something distinctive and appealing to local taste buds.Read more (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/lifestyle/2012/01/27/dining-bob-marlin-202892)

^^Ayala malls are more elegant than SM and considered to be an upper class mall.

And just like what I said previously, having the big 3 (SM, Robinson, and Ayala) means no more other malls should be permitted to invest in the city because they are already the best of the best....

It would depend on the land area I guess.. If the lot is huge, it could mean a mall with 2 floors just like SM but if it the lot is small then expect a higher mall....I don't think they would open up a mall twice the size of SM... The demand is just enough for tourists in that area.

kahit 3 floors ok na sakin but un wish ko is 4 para nman masaya diba sana malaki un lugar
