From what I heard yesterday a CWC- he already visited the province last Saturday.

He arrived in the morning and left in the afternoon.

The senator was apparently impressed with the number of tourists that was in CWC last weekend and agreed that there is a need to upgrade the airport in CamSur that could accommodate bigger planes.

Also I was told that the Survivor USA would start shooting next month (March).

NAGA CITY—The first Bicol airline will soon service passengers in four of the region’s six provinces.

The four Bicol provinces to be serviced by the newest local airline are Albay, Camarines Sur, and the island provinces of Masbate and Catanduanes.

Destinations include Manila, Boracay and Palawan.

Albay Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda who is also chairman of the regional development council hailed the investors behind new airline, saying it is the answer to the demand for growing passengers in the region and a boost to the local tourism industry.

Salceda is the brain behind the Bicol international airport project now on the second phase of its construction. The proposed airport is located atop hilly Barangay Comon in Daraga, Albay overlooking the towns of Camalig, Daraga, and Legazpi City. The present airport is located in Legazpi City and has seven daily flights to Manila.

The new airline will have interconnecting flights described as the Bicol-Visayas-Palawan triangle route, according to Capt. Ramon Torres, president and chief operating officer of the South West Air Corp. that operates the newly registered Bicol Air Express.

Torres said the new airline will initially fly a 19-seater LET 410-E turbo-prop aircraft, a British Norman Islander BNI 8-seater aircraft and Fokker 50 twin-engine turboprop with a maximum capacity of 50 passengers.

The Fokker plane, said Torres, will cover tourism destinations not serviced by other airlines while the British Norman Islander BNI 8-seater aircraft will penetrate remote tourist areas such as the Caramoan Peninsula in Camarines Sur and Masbate Island.

The 19-seater LET 410-E turboprop aircraft will interconnect the Bicol-Visayas-Palawan triangle route, Torres said.

Formal launching was initially scheduled on Feb. 10 but was moved to March 8 to coincide with the opening of the Naga City office.

Torres said that the carrier will open the Naga-Virac-Legazpi-Masbate-Caticlan, Kalibo-El Nido-Puerto Princesa routes during the March 8 launch.

The airline, the official said, will also ask the Civil Aeronautics Administration for a Naga-Manila route, saying they are optimistic the regional airline can accommodate the increased passenger traffic after its opening.

Catanduanes Gov. Joseph Cua said his province is being serviced four times a week by two airlines, and that on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, no carriers service the Manila-Virac route.

With the newest local airline servicing the regional route, passengers can now avail themselves of the fastest transportation means in addition to the regular sea transport going to the mainland via Tabaco City in Albay.

Cua said the new airline service will certainly boost the province’s tourism industry.

Lrey disclosed his dream of having a better airport as Naga airport really needs to be upgraded or even replaced as many tourists coming from South Korea and Japan are requesting for a direct flight from their countries to CamSur....Gladly, Sen. Koko will be visiting Naga to see what he can do about the airport problem... He was amazed to know that flights here were only 2-3 flights a week years ago before CamSur was still unknown to 49 flights a week now... And if only Naga airport were in international standard, number of flights would have been around a hundred. Let's hope that Sen. Koko's visit would do well to our beloved province -- CamSur!

NAGA City, Feb. 4 (PIA) -- The fight against poverty is gaining grounds as more and more beneficiaries are being listed as members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Progam being pushed by government to address the problem of poverty and reduce the number of poor families in various part of the country.

To date, Camarines Sur has already 99,619 household beneficiaries enrolled under the said program. This, after 16,037 more members were included in the list as part of the 2012 expansion of the program. Dubbed as Set 5, all cities and municipalities with Indigenous People or IPs and those LGUs which were not covered during the first sets have now been included. AdNU & Cam Sur Doctors Sign MOA on Feeding Program

February 1, 2012 — The Ateneo de Naga University, represented by the University President Fr. Primitivo E. Viray, and the Camarines Sur Medical Society (CSMS), through Dr. Roy Fernando, signed the Memorandum of Agreement for the Feeding program.

Both parties agreed to implement a feeding program for six months at Camagong Elementary School, in Cabusao, Camarines Sur (one of the university partner municipalities). Eighty elementary pupils of the said school will benefit from the program starting January this year.

The Knights Reach Out to the Young

The Ateneo Golden Knights had a tune up game with the Naga City High School Selection last February 3 at the ADNU Gym. The main purpose of the game was to prepare the Naga team for the Palarong Bicol in March. Team Naga is coached by former ADNU assistant Coach Dante V. Pascual Jr. and is assisted by former ADNU player Brian Ayque Ayo. Current ADNU lead assistant coach Peter Barcelon is also part of the Naga staff.

First Aid and Basic Life Support Training

Fourteen faculty and staff members together with the SSG president comprised the 2nd batch of trainees who attended the three day seminar on First Aid and Basic Life Support last December 19- 21, 2011 at the Nursing Amphitheatre. The training seminar was conducted by the Philippine National Red Cross Camarines Sur Chapter supported by the Staff Development Fund of Personnel Services Office (in line with the University Safety Committee).

Participants gained basic knowledge in giving first Aid treatment as well as Basic Life Support (well known as the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation). The duration of the training seminar highlighted lecture series on bandaging, primary rescue, transport, and extrication. The participants also undertook written and practical examinations to test their skills and knowledge in case they have to apply it in times of immediate response during disasters or calamities. The seminar concluded with an actual rescue drill: a scenario of vehicle collision in front of the Four Pillars was set-up and the participants conducted the rescue drill.

Next level of the training seminar by the Red Cross will be Water Safety and Rescue.

CCD Turns Over 20th Bahay Atenista

After seven months of construction, the 20th unit of the BahayAtenista was formally turned over by the Center for Community Development (CCD) to its beneficiary, Mr. and Mrs. Jose Motan, last 31 January 31. Local officials and residents of Barangay Balongay in Calabanga, CCD Staff and student volunteers, and Admin Services Director Mr. Romeo Fajardo University President attended the ceremony, with Fr. Jun Viray presiding the blessing and turn-over ceremonies.

The Construction of the Bahay Atenista unit started in July 7, 2011 with the help of AdNU student volunteers and participants from Sogang University of South Korea. Following Bahay Atenista`s tradition: the formal ground breaking and construction started during the celebration of the Ignatiana last August 30. The Bahay Atenista unit, measuring 4 meters by 5 meters, is located at Zone 2 of Barangay Balongay, Calabanga, Camarines Sur one of the partner communities of the university. Student and University Personnel Volunteers helped in the actual construction of the unit by doing manual hauling of construction materials, brick making, cement mixing, and other construction related activities.

The beneficiary of the 20th Bahay Atenista unit was carefully selected by the CCD with regards to its poverty level and ownership of lot. Donations from various student organizations including the faculty and staff aided in the construction of a sturdy and decent house for a less fortunate family. Aside from the donations, the CCD solicited scrap construction materials such as GI sheets and lumber from university through the Physical Plant Administration.

The next Bahay Atenista unit started its construction last December 3, 2011 during the Xavier Day. It is expected to be completed before the Ignatiana Day on July 30, 2012.

The CCD would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to all organizations and donors who supported the program since its implementation for the last 7 years.

2012 Bicol Mathematics Conference

The Department of Mathematics, College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Education, and the Graduate School presented the 2012 Bicol Mathematics Conference on February 4, 2012 at the CCMF Amphitheater, MCSE Building, AdNU.

With a theme of "Enhancing Mathematical Skills through Problem Solving," its main invited speaker was Ma. Carlota B. Decena, PhD, Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Sto. Tomas. She presented a paper entitled "The aesthetics of problem solving: The link between art and math." Ms. Cresencia Laguerta, Mr. Engelbert Baloloy, Mr. Keneth Dagal, Dr. Ronald Elicay, and Mr. Joel Noche also presented papers.

Remontados Makes it to Grand Finals

The Ateneo Remontados Debate Society made it to the Grand Finals in the recently concluded Raul Roco Cup Regional Debate Tournament held at the Universidad de Sta. Isabel. Arcci Relloso (BMHP) and Kevin Bonafe (AB Literature) were grand finalists, Merryl Garcia (BS Accountancy), Trojan Monoy, JC Tria (BS Accountancy), and Kenneth Taino were semi-finalists, Maria Christina Gumba (AB Political Science) and Vincent Sotaso (AB English) were quarter finalists.

The entire contingent from the Ateneo de Naga University, sixteen debaters who composed eight teams, broke to the higher rounds while eight of them representing four teams, advanced to the next levels.

Among the top ten best speakers were Arcci Relloso, Kevin Bonafe, Merryl Garcia, Vincent Sotaso, Regine Malanyaon (BS Accountancy), JC Tria. Among the top ten best adjudicators were Romeo Lorenzo Wong (BMHP), Dianne Rubios, Grace Tud, Mykel Pazcoguin (AB Economics), and Daryl Cerilio.

The Institute of Politics congratulates the Remontados debaters and their coach, Mr. Percival Tordilla.

Pedro Bautista was a Spanish Franciscan missionary who worked in Bikol in colonial times. He was parish priest of Lupi, Cam Sur.

He volunteered to go to the mission of Japan where he was eventually arrested and martyred by crucifixion in Nagasaki.

He was a appointed Bishop of the See of Caceres (covering the entire Bikol pensinsula and parts of today's Quezon province) but by the time the appointment reached the country he had already been martyred in Japan.

Pedro Bautista is the secondary patron of the Archd of Caceres and is today also honored by the parish and school in Lupi which bears his name.

Camaligan Fish Port Complex


The Camaligan Fish Port Complex (CFPC), is the fourth major fish port project completed by the government under the Nationwide Fishing Port Package I.

Location

Nestled at the bank of the Bicol river in Barangay Dugcal, the CFPC is strategically located just 1.5 kilometers from the poblacion and only four kilometers from Naga City, Camarines Sur's largest urban settlement. A traveler from Manila, which is 425 kilometers away, can reach Naga in approximately eight to nine hours by land or in 45 minutes by air.

I believe many mangrove plantation activities along the shores of Camarines Sur, predominantly in Calabanga and in Cabusao, were actually an initiative of the Ateneo De Naga University's Insitute for Environmental Conservation and Research (ENICAR).

The institute's involvement in advocating various environmental concern in Bicol such as that of Rapu-Rapu mining, Cabusao dam, and preserving Mt. Isarog's rich-laden ecology among many is truly commendable.

Mayor Bongat said the solar-powered lighting system will be installed as lamp posts along Mayon Avenue here. The Ateneo Golden Knights after the tune up game with the Naga City High School Selection last February 3 at the ADNU Gym. The main purpose of the game is to prepare the Naga team for the Palarong Bicol in March. Team Naga is coached by former ADNU assistant Coach Dante V. Pascual Jr. and is assisted by former ADNU player Brian Ayque Ayo. Current ADNU lead assistant coach Peter Barcelon is also part of the Naga staff.

:) :)INECAR has been quite active in the Green Crusade even as it lives out its blue (ateneo heheeh) mission.

Lake bato has also been one of its earliest crusades. the director, Dr Emelina Regis, hold a PhD in environmental science and is full professor at the ateneo. i had her for an undergraduate elective course in ecology and field biology.

was in pampanga earlier this week and met a Fil-Am US Navy officer who mentioned the Davis Cup in Iriga. he is actually going to iriga to attend it. he mentioned that the hotels are fully booked and he has no reservation yet. told him to stay in any of the hotels in Naga instead- just less than an hour's ride anyway.

The Masters of Public Adminstration in collaboration with the Ateneo Center for Local Governance conducted a Lecture-Forum on The State of Governance in Naga City: Issues, Trends and Over-all Performance of the Local Government on February 4, 2012 at the James O`Brien Multi-Purpose Hall, Ateneo de Naga University.

Mr. Florencio T. Mongoso Jr, Naga City Administrator, served as the resource speaker on the said activity. He presented the Naga Governance Model – progressive development perspective, functional partnerships and people participation. On his discussion, he shared the city`s capability building of employees thru the implementation of their Productivity Improvement Program. He also gave importance on the role of partnerships in governance as it leads them into people`s participation and create a sustainable shared responsibility. Challenges of local governance and the risks in the implementation of local ordinances in the city were highlighted in the activity. Application of the “I-GOVERNANCE” to empower an individual citizen was also introduced to the participants. Naga City is looking forward on sustaining and sharing their gains as they continue to create remarkable impacts of good governance in the city.

Mayor Bongat said the solar-powered lighting system will be installed as lamp posts along Mayon Avenue here. was in pampanga earlier this week and met a Fil-Am US Navy officer who mentioned the Davis Cup in Iriga. he is actually going to iriga to attend it. he mentioned that the hotels are fully booked and he has no reservation yet. told him to stay in any of the hotels in Naga instead- just less than an hour's ride anyway.

Archbishop still serving past retirement age
Now 76, Archbishop Leonardo Z. Legaspi is one year past the mandatory retirement age for bishops. As of Wednesday, he is still clueless as to who the Vatican would name as his successor as bishop of the Archdiocese of Caceres, a post which he has served in the last 28 years.

The Vatican will choose his replacement only after the nitty-gritty process of background investigation and approval of bishops, Legaspi said. The final name is submitted to the Pope for appointment.

According to the Archdiocese of Caceres, the oldest and biggest diocese in Bicol, 94 percent (some 1.2 million) of the people of Camarines Sur are baptized Catholics. The Bicol Region (Region 5) also surpassed its 2011 target by 12 percent with 6,303 hectares of open and denuded forestland planted with close to 4 million tree seedlings. In April of 2011, Dr. Francisco Datar of the University of the Philippines rushed to Monreal, in Ticao islands, after being informed that there were two slabs of stones with inscriptions that looked like they meant something and resembled what people know as "baybayin", the pre-Spanish syllabary. Soon, the TV networks were reporting the "discovery" or, rather, the re-discovery: the slabs of stone were there for some ten years, the bigger and flatter one used by students as a doormat... By the first week of August, a team from the National Museum and the University of the Philippines, with Dr. Datar at the helm, visited Monreal and held the First Ticao Stone Conference... At present, the stone tablets are now in the custody of the National Museum. The artifacts had undergone more examination. There are initial findings."
We could be looking at a national treasure but at the moment there no clear answer yet.

Please join us with other academics, school officials, and students in this conference. What is exciting about the conference is that it has stirred exciting academic interest in pre-Hispanic history of our nation.

There will be a registration fee of P500 to cover the lunch and the kits to be distributed. The kits include the papers of those who all looked into artifacts.

The Second Batong Ticao/Ticao Stone Conference will be held at the Arrupe Convention Hall on Feb. 10, 2012, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, under the auspices of the Institute of Bikol History & Culture, with support from the University Research Council and the Office of the University President. An anthropologist, archaeologist, linguist, physicist, a National Museum representative, and two cultural workers/leaders from Ticao Island, in Masbate, will read papers and present their analysis.

National Naga convention for Biology teachers

NAGA CITY --- Some 300 teachers coming all the way from Mindanao, Visayas and Luzon will converge in this city for the 47th Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting of the Biology Teachers Association (BIOTA) of the Philippines on April 12-14, this year, at the Ateneo de Naga University.

Convention Chair Michael A. Clores of host Ateneo de Naga said the annual convention will focus on 21st century innovations in the teaching-learning process and the science inquiry approach like learning Biology the way scientists do.

Among the speakers invited for the plenary sessions and workshops are Dr. Filma G. Brawner, director of Science and Education Institute, DOST; Undersecretary Yolanda S. Quijano of DepEd; Albay Gov. Joey Salceda; Dr. Emelina G. Regis, director of Institute for Environmental Conservation and Research of the Ateneo de Naga; and Dr. Damasa M. 'Bagsakan,' cold storage open with Tinagba

IRIGA CITY --- As the festive atmosphere heightens in this city with the ongoing Tinagba Festival 2012, a new addition to the public market was inaugurated last February 9, Friday.

The new public utility building, dubbed Iriga City Bagsakan and Cold Storage, are facilities for storage and marketing of agricultural products harvested around the municipalities surrounding the city of Iriga, Frank Peñones, Jr., Public Information Officer of Iriga City said.

The facilities were completed after five months of construction to be inaugurated in time for the annual festival which showcases the various festivals in the entire Bicol Region, he added.

Thus, “Cam Sur A” will cover Districts I, II, & V which has a total balance of 22,798 hectares and 2,591 landholdings, while” CamSur B” is composed of District III & IV, with a total balance of 20,693 hectares and 2,584 landholdings, respectively.

Cam Sur A Provincial Office is to be headed by Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer Rodrigo O. Realubit, CESO VI, with the following Division Chiefs: Ricardo C. Garcia, Operations Division; Vicenta R. Homeless Bula folks get GK units

Bula, Camarines Sur --- A new dawn opens for homeless folks of this town with the establishment of the Ben-Ray GK Village at Barangay Pawili as a result of the partnership efforts of Gov. LRay Villafuerte, Gawad Kalinga Foundation and the municipal government.

Blessed and inauagurated last Monday, February 6, the latest GK village has allocation for some 100 homeless families and enough space to start off livelihood projects.

CamSur was named the first Designer Province throughout the country by Gawad Kalinga in view of the determined efforts of Gov. LRay Villafuerte in putting up GK housing site in every municipality of the province and introducing innovations such as the bed and breakfast facilities.

Nice find! It's good to know that our institutions are hosting events like these. Years ago, the burial jar found in Libmanan was also displayed in the Archeological Museum of the Minor Seminary.

This airport has no lane for tourist cabs

Responding to the government’s call to promote the country’s tourism industry, taxis bearing Rainbow Plates, like the Jumong taxis, are ready to transport domestic/foreign tourists to and from different places in the Bicol Region.

PILI, Camarines Sur --- It is ironic that while both the city government of Naga and the province of Camarines Sur are stepping up efforts to bring in more tourists as a flourishing industry, the so-called tourist taxis which are allowed by both the LTFRB and the Department of Tourism to operate to and from any point of the Bicol region do not have a lane at the Naga airport’s parking lot or near its arrival and departure areas to offer their services to both incoming and outgoing visitors and tourists.

3. Birth Certificate (BC) in Security Paper (SECPA) issued by the National Statistics Office (NSO) or Certified True Copy (CTC) of BC issued by the Local Civil Registrar duly authenticated by NSO.
4. Proof of identity / Supporting documents indicating full name, date and place of birth and citizenship
5. Other Supporting documents.

As far as I know, I don't have item #4. Can my school ID suffice? It's the only ID I have. If it cannot be submitted, what other docs can I submit instead? Thanks! :D

Parliament of Youth Leaders this summer in Naga, CamSur

Delegates are in for one hot summer, as they explore hot issues and discuss hot topics during the 9th Parliament of Youth Leaders (NYP 9), which will be held in Naga city.

“Bicolandia will be the venue of plenty of hot discussions on youth issues. Hindi lang summer destination at adventure tourism venue ang Naga, CamSur -- ito ay isang youth-friendly locality," states Commissioner Gio Tingson, National Organizing Committee Chair for NYP9.

While the rest of the country braves the summer heat, around 200 youth leaders face a different kind of heat as they express their opinions and support their views on policy proposals which could become government programs or policies responding to the various issues encountered by the Filipino youth.

The application form may be downloaded at the NYC website (www.nyc.gov.ph). Following are the qualifications of NYP 9 applicants:
• Filipino citizen, aged 15 - 30 years old as of February 29, 2012
• Residing at the place of representation for at least six (6) months at the time of submission
• Must be a member of an organization
• Of good moral character
• Can contribute to the objectives of NYP 9.
