The problem with Avenue Plaza is the number of rooms. It's the main reason why it stays a 4-star hotel despite of its 5-star quality service...

270 disaster response soldiers get rescue equip’t
PILI, Camarines Sur – At least 270 soldiers belonging to the 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army were issued rescue equipment and gear by Army Division commander Major General Josue S. Gaversa, Jr., during the weekly flag raising ceremony at Camp Elias recently.

A playwright and poet, Carlo himself belongs to a family rooted in literature and committed to its advancement. His great-granduncle Tomas was a propagandist and legislator, in whose honor Carlo’s family has sponsored the annual Premio Tomas Arejola para sa Literaturang Bikolnon, the region’s most prestigious literary competition, now on its ninth year, as well as a creative writing workshop, the Juliana Arejola-Fajardo Workshop sa Pagsurat Bikol. The Premio Tomas Arejola and the Juliana Pagsurat Bikol Workshop will also be re-launched at the 2012 Pintakasi kan Literaturang Bikolnon (Bikol Literature Festival) on February 16 and 17 in Pili, Camarines Sur. The Sangguniang Bayan of Pili declared February 6 Aldaw kan mga Parasurat kan Kabikolan (Bicol Writers’ Day) and February 7 Aldaw kan mga Librong Bikol (Bikol Books Day). MANILA, Philippines — More than 2,000 couples all over the country will say "I Do" Tuesday, Valentine's Day, as part of the mass wedding program of the Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF) for its members.

The event, “I Do. I Do. Araw ng Pag-IBIG,” will allow lucky couples to get married or renew their wedding vows in civil ceremonies simultaneously at the SM Mall of Asia and other SM malls in Baguio, Naga, Bacolod, Cebu, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro (CDO).

HDMF, more popularly known as Pag-IBIG Fund got its acronym the Filipino word for "love." The acronym stands for "Pagtutulungan sa Kinabukasan: Ikaw, Bangko, Industriya, at Gobyerno (Pag-IBIG).

Vice President Jejomar C. Binay, concurrent chairman of the Pag-IBIG board, will witness the mass wedding ceremony for 600 couples at the Bacolod New Government Center in Bacolod City.

Another 348 couples from the National Capital Region (NCR) will also participate in the mass wedding; 200 in CDO; 200 in Davao; 80 in Baguio City: 150 in Naga; 300 in Laguna; 200 in Cebu, and 200 in Kidapawan.

Local government units (LGUs) in the areas where the mass weddings will be held also supported the undertaking through the speedy or free processing of the required documents.

Pag-IBIG Chief Executive Officer Darlene Marie B. Berberabe said the mass wedding is meant to help couples who wish to be married, but have no finances to do so.

More than helping the couples undergo the rites of marriage, Pag-IBIG hopes to use the event to promote financial literacy and greater appreciation of the concept of savings among the newlyweds.

“We also hope that these couples will see Pag-IBIG as its partner, an integral part of their lives as they build and provide for their own families. After all, the first thing that newly-married couples usually think of is having their own house as they start their families. Pag-IBIG wants the couples and their families to have a house that shelters them from the elements, and a home that nurtures them through the years,” she said.

With membership to the fund being a prerequisite for at least one of the bride-and-groom pair, the member already enjoys the benefits of Pag-IBIG membership, which include savings and access to its short-term and housing loan programs.

“The event is one way for us to reach out to our members, helping them maximize their membership by informing them of the benefits of being a Pag-IBIG member,” Berberabe said.

“The event is unlike the usual mass wedding where the celebration ends after the exchange of ‘I Dos’ between the couples. Pag-IBIG’s” kasalan” not just enables couples to legally bind their union but it also paves the way for the newlyweds to start a financially-solid future for them and their family. Pag-IBIG stands witness as the couples celebrate their love for each other on their special day,” she said.

The couples will also be eligible to win raffle prizes.

A grand prize of one house and lot package from the Pag-IBIG Fund’s pool of acquired assets valued at around P400,000 will be awarded to a pair among the participating couples nationwide.

Bicol Access Health Centrum Phase 2 Expansion has commenced.

Unversidad de Sta. Isabel, Panganiban Campus renovation is on going.

Sogo Hotel has started construction.

ALDP Condominiums are also on the rise.

These developments would change the face of the CBD 2 this 2012.

Chic Boy will open in two months in the former Banco Filipino Building.

Banco Filipino will apparently re- open (as per Central Bank Order) in another site.

The three storey- BCDC (Bicol Cardiology Diagnostic Center) and NICC Doctor's Hospital are fast rising.

Bicol Access Health Centrum Phase 2 Expansion has commenced.

Unversidad de Sta. Isabel, Panganiban Campus renovation is on going.

Sogo Hotel has started construction.

ALDP Condominiums are also on the rise.

These developments would change the face of the CBD 2 this 2012.

The 2nd runner up took home Php200,000 and the 1st runner up had PhP300,000. :D All from the Department of Tourism (as was told, of course. :) ). But in fairness, there were a number of foreign tourists that day. They were all hovering VIP ids. There were also a few officials from the Department of Tourism Regional Office who were here (at the resto, literally :D ) and watched the parade, the floats, the showdances.

Rains trigger power outages in Naga
NAGA City -- Continuous rains for the last two days damaged a major sub-station supplying 20 MBA of electricity in 19 villages of the city and neighboring towns of Minalabac and Milaor, Cam. Sur, causing power outages in at least 45 percent of Naga’s commercial and residential areas since Sunday night.

In a report from Camarines Sur Electric Cooperative II (Casureco II) Engineering Department Manager Rolando A. Pante, the power outages since Sunday night affected Feeder 5, covering three city barangays and two towns; Feeder 8 (seven barangays), and Feeder 6 (nine barangays) in the city. 17 Bicol schools to impose tuition hikes
LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines - Seventeen higher education institutions (HEI) in Bicol region signified intentions to raise tuition fees on school year 2012-2013, the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) here confirmed.

Janette Naag, CHED-Bicol supervisor in-charge of tuition fees, said the 17 HEIs were the only ones who submitted “Letter of Intent” as of February 13, the last day of filing LOI.

Among the applicants for tuition fee hikes included:

DB Pena Memorial Colleges Foundation, Oas Community College, Immaculate Concepcion College, all in Albay province, Mariner’s Polytechnic College Foundation in Camarines Sur, Masbate College and Southern Roosevelt College in Masbate, St. Louise de Marillac College, RG de Castor College, Sorsogon College of Criminology in Sorsogon, the Mariner’s Polytechnic College Foundation, Divine Word College and Aquinas University in Legaspi City, Ateneo de Naga University, Mariner’s Polytechnic College Foundation, University of Santa Isabel and University of Nueva Caceres in Naga City and Catanduanes College.
