MANILA, Philippines - The province of Camarines Sur, which has become known globally as a hotspot for watersports and extreme sporting events, will host the first leg of the Stand-up Paddle World Series from April 19 to 23.

Having many banks can improve the economy in general. But personally I wish Bicol as well as Naga City will develop MORE home grown businesses that would compete the Manila base businesses coming here. It's true that Manila base can give jobs to our Bicolanos kababayan, but having a local business not only give employment but the cash liquidity will stay here in Bicol

It's great to have such homegrown businesses but the problem is that most of them are not very competitive compared to the Manila-based businesses.

They are still many local businesses. But for me, If we want to have a stable businesses in the future. It should start from a good quality academic or business school. It's important to have a very good foundation.

Aga Muhlach registers as voter in Camarines Sur district

PILI, Camarines Sur—Movie star Aga Muhlach stirred local politics in the fourth district of Camarines Sur, the congressional district dominated by the Fuentebella political clan for over a century now, when he registered as a voter at the Commission on Election office in San Jose, Camarines Sur, on Monday.
Muhlach told the Inquirer Monday evening, at a dinner hosted by Governor Luis Raymund “LRay” Villafuerte, that he was registering as a voter in San Jose but avoided mentioning whether or not he was vying for an elective position.
The post-registration dinner for Muhlach, which was held at the CamSur Watersports Complex’s Villa Del Rey in this town, was attended by Villafuerte, Vice Gov. Fortunato Peña and political leaders in the fourth district towns.
Section 117, Article 22 of the Omnibus Election Code said that to be registered as a voter a Filipino citizen must have been a resident of the Philippines for one year and a resident in the city or municipality, where he intends to vote, for at least six months immediately preceding the election.
Muhlach said the roots of his father, who belonged to the Amador and Borja clans, were from the towns of Goa and San Jose.
He said he had been visiting San Jose since he was young to bond with his father’s kin.
Last month, Muhlach and Villafuerte stood as sponsors of 216 couples during a mass wedding in San Jose. On Monday, Muhlach again stood as godfather of 300 babies baptized in a Catholic Church in the town at around 1 p.m. before he proceeded to register as voter and resident of the town at around 3 p.m.
A source from Villafuerte’s staff, who declined to be named because he was not authorized to issue a statement about details of Muhlach’s political move, said it was the first time Muhlach registered as a voter, not having voted in past electoral exercises.
The source added that Muhlach was also building a house in San Jose to establish his residence.
San Jose Mayor Antonio Chavez said Muhlach’s move to register in his town stirred politics in the fourth district where Deputy Speaker Arnulfo Fuentebella was serving his last term as representative.
The Fuentebellas marked their first century in politics in 2007, which was started on March 15, 1907, by patriarch Jose Fuentebella, one of the founding members and an executive committee member of the Nacionalista Party with then President Manuel L. Quezon and Vice President Sergio Osmeña Sr.

Hi Dandy, Aga has a lot of relatives from Goa (where my wife came from).

In the past, we chanced upon Amalia Fuentes (Aga's) aunt on a popular furniture wood carver Lolo Pinying Abundabar whose house is located near the Partido State University.

Mr. Abundabar was the once who made most of Amalia's furnitures at home. They are apparently cousins.

That would be interesting to observe. How long does it take to go to Calabanga? Can biti also be bought at the Naga market? Once, in Dagupan, I watched ladies deboning Bonuan bangus so I would learn how to do it. I was told that each worker does 300 bangus in one morning. When I do it at home, one jumbo bangus takes me almost 30 minutes to debone but its a great way to de-stress!

ADNU Golden Knights Partner with Jodans Engineering

The Ateneo Golden Knights recently partnered with Jodans Engineering as they participate in the first ever Naga City Mayor’s Cup – Inter-Commercial Basketball Open. Top hoop talents from eight commercial and collegiate teams from Naga and Legazpi City are participating in the league.

The tournament has started last March 17 and is expected to last until the first week May. All games are to be played in the Naga City Coliseum every Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The Golden Knights` main objective in joining the league is to prepare and make themselves better when the Inter-Collegiate season starts in June.

Jodans Engineering is owned by local businessman, Mr. William Delloro. Mr. Delloro’s daughter, Nikki, is a graduate of the Ateneo de Naga High School.

The Ateneo de Naga University, through the Ateneo Social Science Center (ASSRC), in association with CPRM Consultants Inc., signed a six-month consultancy contract with the Millennium Challenge Account-Philippines (MCA-P) to a undertake a nationwide qualitative baseline study of the KALAHI-CIDSS (Kapit Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services) Project.


The contract was signed by Fr. Primitivo E. Viray, Jr., SJ, President of the Ateneo de Naga University (right) and Ms. Ma. Victoria E. Añonuevo, Managing Director and CEO, MCA-P (second from left) in the presence of Mr. Matthew L. Bohn, Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Resident Country Director (first from left) and witnessed by Mr. Elcid E. Pangilinan, Monitoring and Evaluation Director, MCA-P (back) on March 8, 2012 at the MCA-P Office 2nd Floor Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) Building, San Miguel Avenue, Pasig City. The MCA-P, a subsidiary of the Development Bank of the Philippines, was established by the Philippine government to implement KALAHI-CIDSS projects with funding from MCC. The MCC is an independent U.S. foreign aid agency which is created by the U.S. Congress in January 2004. CPRM is a private consultancy organization dedicated to building capacity and institution systems for continuing capacity improvement in developing country governments and their institutions. Also present in the contract signing were Mr. Andres Moll, KALAHI-CIDSS project director, Ms. Bingle Gutierrez, Deputy Managing Director for Operations, Mr. Luis Villalta, Procurement Agent Manager, Dr. Cristina Lim, ASSRC Director and Mr. Lauro Lleno, ASSRC Research Associate.

Budget hotels invade travel

These are standard services in five-star accommodations that now face stiff competition from budget chain hotels which offer the same world-class facilities at much lower rates.

The guests simply want comfortable beds, immaculate bathrooms and safe surroundings.

In recent years, Kabayan, Eurotel, Days Inn and Microtel accommodations have cornered downtown and business centers and prime tourist destinations.

"Different branches have different rates depending on location, but they are competitive with standard hotels," said one Eurotel manager. "Near SM North, our guests are mostly families and foreigners, mainly balikbayans and Americans."

The market is so enticing that the big ones like Ayala Land and the Gokongwei group want to have a share.

"We call it the limited service concept which we pioneered in the Philippines," said Albert F. Banaag, Microtel director of sales and marketing. "And a lot of them are trying to copy our business model of providing limited services at international standards." He said the template has been "a success for many years now."

"When you say a budget or economy hotel, it’s a Department of Tourism classification," he said. "For us, we provide what we believe the regular traveler needs: clean rooms, comfortable beds, hot showers, safety and security."
