We did actually go out last night at 2 am and strolled the city center and dined at Biggs after the socials. As usual, even at 2AM, people were still awake and having fun. It's very refreshing to stroll at night in the city center.

centro has always been sleepless even in my younger years. we would stroll even at midnight and there would still be stores open, places to go to, and people to be seen. :)

Pahali pa lang po ako saaga for Manila. Tuesday po ang flight mi. :)

enjoy japan, kevin. sayang dai mo na inabot ang cherry blossoms.
enjoy the cold air and the healthy, healthy food.

i texted Gio (NYC commissioner) to welcome him to Naga and suggest to him the must-visits and the must-eats. his reply:

"ganda talaga ng naga! of course kinalas pero sa bolofers pa lang ang breakfast ko when i arrived. craving for kinunot and the famous halo-halos..."

Finally, pasacao has indeed found a match. But one good thing about the place is its uniqueness as it has pebbles not sand. Somehow, it does not rival pasacao as both are unique.

This brand new song by Maher Zain (one of my favorite singers actually), "Number One For Me" is dedicated to my mother and to all the mothers in the world :okay:

f4J7-WR1QOY

Lyrics:

I was a foolish little child
Crazy things I used to do
And all the pain I put you through
Mama now I'm here for you
For all the times I made you cry
The days I told you lies
Now it's time for you to rise
For all the things you sacrificed

Chorus:
Oh, if I could turn back time rewind
If I could make it undone
I swear that I would
I would make it up to you
Mum I'm all grown up now
It's a brand new day
I'd like to put a smile on your face every day
Mum I'm all grown up now
And it's not too late
I'd like to put a smile on your face every day

And now I finally understand
Your famous line
About the day I'd face in time
'Cause now I've got a child of mine
And even though I was so bad
I've learned so much from you
Now I'm trying to do it too
Love my kid the way you do

CHORUS

You know you are the number one for me (x3)
Oh, oh, number one for me
There's no one in this world that can take your place
Oh, I'm sorry for ever taking you for granted, ooh
I will use every chance I get
To make you smile, whenever I'm around you
Now I will try to love you like you love me
Only God knows how much you mean to me

CHORUS

You know you are the number one for me (x3)

Oh, oh, number one for me

Yes. I passed by the construction of 7- Eleven Nabua yesterday.

It was the old Sampaguita Department Store. It was a corner store location and looks huge.

I wonder if the 7 Eleven Libmanan is already open by now.

So far we already have ten 7- Eleven stores in Camsur

6 stores in Naga
2 stores in Pili
1 store in Nabua
1 store in Libmanan

Mga Oragon na Taga-Baao!!!

Jake Letts
Member: Philippine Volcanoes - Rugby Team
Position: Scrum Half

A Lola Sa Mother Side Brigola.

Jake may not fit your idea of a huge, massive rugby player—he doesn’t have to be. Since 2005 he has been on both the national men’s and under-20s teams as the scrum half, the linchpin of the team—linking the power of the forwards to the speed of the backs. “That’s the beauty of the game,” he points out, “it suits all sizes and body types.” A native of Newport near Sydney in New South Wales, Jake grew up playing a variety of sports—cricket, softball, swimming, surfing, athletics, track—before deciding to specialize in rugby. He is currently taking his master’s in sports management. At 23 he’s one of the veteran Volcanoes.

“I don’t really take offence when critics say we are not real Filipinos,” Jake says. “In saying that, they mean we’re not real Australians, either! You can’t take away the fact that we have both Filipino and Australian blood running through us, and we are proud of it.”http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/550207_251682988264357_100002679745432_462437_306096376_n.jpg

1 store in Libmanan

welcome to 7 Eleven country

an April 29 post on
FB centro naga business club:

Happy to announce that J. Barlin street will soon be Naga's Heritage walk. It was once the main street of Naga City and that it extends to General Luna. Due to road constructions and changes, it now forks into P. Burgos and General Luna. The PNP headquarters used to be the Cuartel of the Guardia Civil.

Another historical edifice is the old provincial jail at the Penafrancia Avenue. It was later used as the post office.

BAAO Children´s Choir Grand Prize Winner at the 18ª Certamen Internacional Juvenil de Habaneras 2012
http://www.philembassymadrid.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/Images//BAAo-choir1.gif

03 May 2012 – The Philippine Embassy in Madrid reported to the Department that the Baao Children’s Choir won the grand prize at the 18ª Certamen Internacional de Juvenil de Habaneras 2012 which was held from 27 to 29 April 2012 in Torrevieja, Spain.

During the competition, the group sang the following songs for which the choir received a standing ovation: El Negro (obligatory Habanera competition song interpretation); Qué bonita es Cuba; Dicen que se muere el mar (arranged by J. Madurga Oteiza); and Scenes from the North (arranged by Fidel G. Calalang Jr.). The choir was directed by Mr. Virgilio Briones.

Baao Children´s Choir is the first Asian choir to join the said competition. For 2012 alone, more than 40 choirs around the world auditioned and only 8 choirs were selected for the finals.

The Baao Children’s Choir, established in 2003, is a community and church – based choir composed of children ages 11 to 18 years old. It annually holds auditions and training programs in different public and private school in the Municipality of Baao, Camarines Sur.Read more (http://www.philembassymadrid.com/baao-children%C2%B4s-choir-grand-prize-winner-18a-certamen-internacional-juvenil-de-habaneras-2012)

Is Caramoan still a secret?

It has been aired everyday on primetime TV in Asia and Europe due to the numerous Survivor Series shot in the peninsula.

Almost everbody's eyes light up in delightful recognition whenever Caramoan is mentioned.

With the upcoming two seasons of US Survivor next year (now being shot) in CamSur, we should get ready for a big time media exposure.

Caramoan and CamSur would be a by word everywhere then.

The secret is out.

Chef Doy’s Culinary Journey

IT WAS a hearty meal that consisted of Bicol express, Pinangat, Pininyahang Manok, Longgansiang Bicol, Lapu-Lapu sa Buko, Paella Bicolana and other well-known Bicolano delicacies. It was a luncheon of fiery flavors - fiery and delicious enough to make one feel as if they are out dining in Bicol itself.

The delectable dishes were all prepared by Chef Leandro “Doy” R. Sto Domingo of Chef Doy’s Gourmet Restaurant, one of Naga City’s top dining destinations. Although the young chef claims to be an “adopted son” of Bicol, his expertise in the region’s cuisine is remarkable.

“I really love spicy dishes, not only Bicolano food,” he admits. “I also like Laksa, to name a few.” With Bicolano food, it is the dishes’ characteristic combination of the sweetness of the gata (coconut milk) and the spiciness of the chili that made him fall in love with it.

Manileño Doy first stepped foot on Bicol six years ago, when a friend of his invited him to be a consultant in a fine dining restaurant. He soon became the Executive Chef at The Avenue Plaza Hotel in Naga City, which then made him decide to bring along his family and reside there.

His first major culinary venture is Chef Doy’s Gourmet Restaurant, which he opened in 2008. Both locals and tourists troop to his restaurant for a taste of his Pinangat, Kinunot, Laing, Karekareng Litson Kawali and Binagoongang Bagnet.

Doy is also a part-owner of Italian restaurant Grissini Ristorante and The Pro Chef’s Office. The latter is a coffee shop and studio that offers culinary workshops.

“My dad used to tell me that when I was a kid, they would let me cook egg and then the egg would come out differently,” Doy recalls amusedly. “It had garnishing, parang innate na talaga ang passion ko for cooking.”

Doy initially took up Computer Engineering in college, but realizing that his heart was not in it, he eventually decided to pursue his culinary dreams. Prior to relocating to Naga City, Doy had worked at the Pan Pacific Hotel, Pagliacci Sappore Italiano and Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

Indeed, one’s mastery of a region’s cuisine does not always stem from a sense of long-term familiarity, but rather it is through genuine passion in learning it. Before formulating his own take on the spicy Bicolano cuisine, Doy researched on the local dishes and travelled extensively around the region.

His culinary talent has led him to become one of Bicol’s renowned chefs. He is frequently invited to take part in cooking demos and to serve as a judge in local culinary competitions. Recently, Doy was a guest chef at the Marco Polo Plaza for the hotel’s Culinary Journey series - giving the Cebuanos an opportunity to taste his impeccable creations.

On a personal level, Chef Doy’s very own culinary journey is far from halfway done.

With Bicolano cuisine under his belt, who knows what other cuisines he aims to perfect? Needless to say, many more delicious masterpieces can be expected from him.

The secret is out.

and a secret we all are just too willing to share

Baka pwedeng i-relocar na sana ninda ining cuartel duman sa Barlin. Kun plano talaga nindang gibohong heritage walk ang Barlin. Arog kan ginibo sa Las Casas Filipinas de Acuzar sa Bataan. (see picture below)

http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l4itzgdqjc1qc2zn8o1_500.jpg

I don't think it's proper to relocate the jail to las casas. first of all the building loses its history if you take it away from its original site. also, las casas is situated near the sea where buildings are more prone to weathering and deterioration. if the resort owner's primary goal is really to preserve those buildings, why put them there?

Happy to announce that J. Barlin street will soon be Naga's Heritage walk. It was once the main street of Naga City and that it extends to General Luna. Due to road constructions and changes, it now forks into P. Burgos and General Luna. The PNP headquarters used to be the Cuartel of the Guardia Civil.

Another historical edifice is the old provincial jail at the Penafrancia Avenue. It was later used as the post office.

The two old buildings are the former Provincial jail, at the left side ( with a cemented flatform is the former Post office ( building was totally demolished ), that time they were around 3 or 4 buildings including the bureau of telecommunication ( I can still remembered the sound of the Morse code) in this compound.
At one time, Metro Naga Football assoc, request if the compound can be used temporarily for the inter-barangay games, but Phil-Am life Naga ( the owner ) can't make a decision since the main office have the last say.

Paradise country
FULLY LOADED By Mikael Daez
The Philippine Star
May 06, 2012

It’s the middle of summer and every day seems to get hotter and hotter. We sweat as soon as we step out of the shower, it’s impossible to walk outdoors without getting burnt and our clothes always feel sticky and annoying yet with all the complaints and problems we have with the heat, once we hit the beach, we just forget about everything else.

Nobody can blame us because our country just looks that magnificent. Just look around the Internet and you’ll find that most of the beaches, vacation spots and scenic pictures usually come from our magnificent tropical paradises. It’s not even singular for our country — we have a lot of places to show off! For us Filipinos, finding paradise is a regular event and just to be able to say that says so much about what we have to be thankful for. The following are just a few examples of what we have to offer.

Boracay — All the environmental issues aside, just sit down in front of the beach during sunset and you will be mesmerized. I admit that it’s a lot different nowadays compared to the first time I visited that beach back in 1999. There were just a handful of resorts and more than half of the shoreline was uninhabited. Nevertheless, Boracay is still gorgeous and will always be a trademark of how beautiful our country is.

Palawan — From the El Nido resorts to the booming town of Coron, this is the kind of place that Hollywood movies have to use computer graphics to recreate. For most countries not named the Philippines, what we have in Palawan is fantasy — only to be recreated by computers and imagination. For us Filipinos, it’s reality! That’s an insane idea once you wrap your head around it and one that we should appreciate and cherish.

Caramoan and Calaguas islands — These remote and virgin islands are probably what Boracay and Palawan looked like decades ago. I’ve always wanted to take a trip to visit them but I’ll have to settle with staring at their pictures first and hearing about them. From the stories I’ve heard, there are no man-made distractions on these islands — just you and the island in all its pristine glory. Imagine seeing paradise before anybody has a chance to impose their footprints on it.

Mt. Pulag — Aside from our many heavenly beaches, we also have other places to offer. I hear the peak of mount Pulag makes you feel like you’ve gone to another world. It’s freezing cold, the clouds are under you and the view is simply overwhelming. It’s a few days hike which probably makes the prize of hitting the summit all that sweeter. Besides, I like having to work for what I want and this is definitely an experience that I am looking forward to.

Some of you may know that the places I’ve just mentioned are already quite popular among the traveling crowd. The thing is, once a location starts to trend on the Internet, it’s almost impossible to visit it in isolation. Unfortunately for me, that is one of my dreams. I want to discover my own paradise in the Philippines. I don’t mind hiking, swimming, trekking or channeling Leonardo DiCaprio’s character in the movie, The Beach, because the thrill of finding paradise is well worth the journey. Even just the act of looking for that virgin paradise is an amazing high in itself and enough to satisfy my adventurous hunger. But, if ever I do stumble upon a place that is beautiful enough for me to call paradise then that would be the ultimate bonus!

All in all, I think the most special part about my dream is the fact that it is very possible to find my own paradise in the Philippines. We have thousands of islands and so much more places that have yet to be discovered. Channeling the traveler in me, I would love to be able to go on a trip without and plan and just stumble onto a place that even for a few hours, I can call my own. One of these days, I have a feeling, it’ll finally happen.

Five drive-to-destinations for travel junkies
Business Mirror
April 17, 2012

Is your car in tip-top shape for the summer?

There is nothing quite like hitting the road in the summer. Wherever the destination, be it a spontaneous trip to a secret island cove or a meticulously planned trek in the woods, Filipinos are known to have a voracious taste for adventure.

While self-confessed travel junkies would jump at any chance to drive off into the sunset without a care in the world, one should never roll out of the city without having one last car-care check. While Filipinos take extra care to get fit and fabulous for the summer, they should also make sure to get their cars ready for any trip. After all, no one wants an exciting adventure to turn into a Class-A roadside nightmare.

Here are five of the best summer road trip destinations that would get anyone with wanderlust roaring their engines. And to ensure you vehicle is in tip-top shape for that long drive, Bosch offers some tips to help motorists ensure a worry-free vacation.

1. Camarines Sur

Most if not all water sports enthusiasts who are worth their salt have endured eight hours on the road just for a day or two at the Camsur Watersports Complex, one of the finest watersports parks in the country. Get an adrenaline rush whilst trying something extreme like wakeboarding, wakeskating and waterskiing. What’s a challenge without battle scars, they say, and truer words have never been spoken in CamSur.

Before heading to CamSur, have all the filters of the vehicle checked. Filters should be changed according to the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendations or once a year, but for financial reasons, many motorists change filters less frequently. Neglecting to protect the vehicle from pollutants in a timely manner can unknowingly damage high-grade technical components of their car. Bosch filters, including fuel, oil, air and cabin filters have an optimum balance between filtration efficiency and pressure drop. They are made of special micro-fibre paper integrated with synthetic resin that separates up to 99% of all impurities. By regularly using Bosch filters, motorists are guaranteed a smooth drive while enjoying the scenic Pan-Philippine Highway to Camarines Sur.

2. Cagayan Province

Quite the versatile tourist destination, a trip to Cagayan Province is surprisingly fit for a diverse group. The introverted traveller who dreams of peace and quiet would love the sweet serenity of the Callao Caves. The active, adrenaline junkie, on the other hand, would relish at taking on the vicious rapids of the Chico River. It may take a gruelling ten-hour trip from Metro Manila, but Cagayan Province is truly worth the long drive.

Cagayan can be a tedious drive, as some roads are not well-paved. Inspect the tires for wear and tear, including the spare. Tires should be inflated to the proper pressure, depending on the make of the vehicle. If not, for example, low pressured tires may lead to a blowout due to heat build up. Bosch Car Service centers can check all tires have enough air & the right air pressure, or if they are in good condition for possible rough road travel.

3. San Antonio, Zambales

All beach-lovers unite for an unforgettable beach-hopping experience in San Antonio, Zambales! Quite the popular summer destination, San Antonio’s Big Five – Anawangin Cove, Camara Island, Capones Island, Nagsasa Cove and Pundaquit all boast of a tasteful mix of surreal landscape, pristine waters and just the right amount of solitude a tired workaholic would be sure to indulge in. Not to mention, Zambales is a quick two-hour drive from Manila.

The drive is an easy one given the excellent condition of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX); nevertheless, it is important to mind the vehicle’s hoses and belts as finding a nearby car repair shop on NLEX may be difficult. Bosch Car Service centers can help ensure that hoses and belts are connected properly and nothing is loose, leaking or frayed. Waiting by the side road for assistance is never a good way to start any vacation.

4. Ilocos Norte

Motorists can test their car’s power over winding mountain roads en route to this fantastic northern gem. Being able to feast one’s eyes on breathtaking sights like the Bangui windmill farm, the Cape Bojeador lighthouse in Burgos, and the Patapat Viaduct at the foot of the Northern Cordillera Mountain Range is a rare treat for those who are used to seeing enormous billboards and ubiquitous concrete buildings. An eight-hour drive from Metro Manila, travellers are sure to expect a trip that is well-worth the straining drive.

Smart motorists will want to check their battery life before proceeding. It is wise to have battery’s condition checked at the nearest Bosch Car Service center, where service engineers will simulate high load conditions and will also check the battery cable and terminals for cleanliness and wear. While the battery may need replacing it’s also important to have the alternator checked as well, as this is what’s used to maintain the charge in the battery under all conditions.

5. Lucban, Quezon

A three-hour drive from the bustling city of Manila, avid travellers should make it a point to catch the Pahiyas Festival in Lucban, Quezon. Celebrated every 15th of May, the festival boasts of a variety of local delicacies and handicrafts, as well as a delightful display of colourful masks and decorations – a treat for any photographer in pursuit of the perfect summer shot.

Quezon is known for blistering heat, so before setting out, have all car fluids checked at the nearest Bosch Car Service center. The right amount of gasoline, engine oil, transmission fluid, coolants, brake fluid, windshield washer fluid and power steering fluid should be ensured. If possible, change all fluids for a long road trip to avoid any car trouble such as overheating, or worse yet, brake failure.

Know who to call when on the road

In the unfortunate event of car trouble during a trip, Bosch has 25 accredited workshops nationwide that offer general mechanical vehicle repairs and provide expert, cross-brand service in the field of automotive electrics. Whether coming for repair, a regular maintenance or a truthful vehicular assessment before a long road trip, Bosch care service workshops offer personal and convenient services for every need.

SURPRISE! Another mall is coming to Naga!

http://logo.jobsdb.com/PH/JobsDBFiles/CompanyLogo/Starmall.jpg\

Already, Starmall plans to have more branches within the next five years with the goal of having a total floor area of at least 1,000,000 square meters. Expect a Starmall soon at Molino, Cavite; Dasmariñas, Cavite; Sta. Rosa, Laguna; Tanza, Cavite; Gen. Trias, Cavite; Naga, Bicol; and Santiago City, Isabela.

Surprise.:)

Two future projects officially confirmed in their respective webpages.

Ayala and Starmall.

Robinson's where art though?

Without counting Robinsons, Naga City and CamSur would be having four major malls in 5 years.

SM, Puregold, Starmall and Ayala in Pili.

And 2 minor malls LCC (hope it survives the onslaught) and E-mall.

By the way VistaLand (Camella) Sales Office Building is rising in del Rosario. The rendering js beautiful.

Vistaland and Starmall I understand are sister companies owned by the Villars.

Starmall should be built in Almeda. I'm sure it would be a major catalyst for growth in that business district.:banana::banana:

I saw the rendering of Vistaland office and it's indeed beautiful, doc.:banana::banana:

But one thing I'm concerned of is that while Almeda is not yet fully developed, the city government must place better road network or infras for anticipation of the influx of major businesses in that area.

Hmm. Nice. :D

Pero sana magayon ang floor plan and design ning mall ninda na ilalaag igdi sa Naga. Other Starmalls that I've been to, eg Starmall Alabang and EDSA Starmall, don't appeal to me that much. :)

Surprise.:)

Two future projects officially confirmed in their respective webpages.

Ayala and Starmall.

I tried looking for the news article of Ayala announcing its mall here in CamSur. I didn't see one though. :(

Could you post it here, Doc? :D

Father, ano po symbolism kan pineapple dyan sa altar?

If I may po. :D

It symbolizes CamNorte, whose main product is pineapple. :)

Hi Kevin! Apply ka na po. My wife was a SSEAYP Alumnus and it was life changing daw. That was 10 years ago and up to now close pa din sila ng mga SSEAYP friends.

Hi po! Gusto ko ngani talaga magsali. However, I can't do it just yet. My Japan stint this week with the Japan-East Asia Network for Youths and Students (JENESYS) is entirely funded by the Japanese government and the Japanese International Cooperation Center (JICE), which also sponsors the SSEAYP. NYC, which is the domestic partner of both programs, said that after you are given the opportunity to join an international program, you must wait for two years before even trying to apply for another international program. So, I'm planning to apply with the SSEAYP after two years pa. :D
