Congratulations! Is this the first time that we have a first class hotel in Bicol?

Any other 1st class hotel in Bicol which I can recommend to foreign guests

How do you classify a hotel as first class? is it different from being 4-star or 5-star?

GOOD NEWS!
I'm currently watching the program of Mike Enriquez sa GMA News TV.

BIR-Naga aims for P1.3-B target collection
By Lizel S. Macatangay
Philippine Information Agency
May 8, 2012

NAGA CITY, May 8 (PIA) -- The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Revenue District Office (RDO) Number 65 - Naga City has already collected a total amount of P328,036,497.63, which is equal to 23.57 percent of its collection goal of P1.392 billion for 2012.

Revenue District Officer Socorro R. Lafuente said for the current year, BIR RDO 65 – Naga City is bent on achieving P1.392 biilion as it inched forward to reach its target collection before the end of 2012.

La Fuente is confident that they will be able to get hold of the said amount as they impose stricter measures to collect taxes due from the taxpayers.

The Tax Compliance Verification Drive, OPLAN Pasilip, and OPLAN Kandado are some of the programs that the bureau is implementing to ensure that they will be able to reach their goal collection every year.

In 2011, the revenue district office was able to collect a total of P1.258 billon as tax collection. It is significant to note that if the actual collection for the first quarter of 2012 versus 2011 are compared, which is 328,904,497.96 and 301, 915, 377.38, respectively, there is an increase of 26,989,120.58 or 8.98 percent.

RDO 65 Naga City cover what areas?

1.3B tax collection is indeed huge for a small city

We were scheduled for a team building this weekend at Stonehouse and the price for a wholeday stay is P500.00 inclusive of welcome juice, use of cavana, play tennis, swim. Overnight use of rooms is P5,500.00. good for 2.

McDonald's Trivia according to the contractor.

McDonald's Pacific Mall, Daraga, SM City Naga and Magsaysay were franchised by a single person.

McDonald's Bichara Theater Mall and McDonald’s Plaza are non- franchised branches (company owned).

The McDonald's in E- Mall food court stall is an extension of McDonald's Plaza.

NGCP invests P355M to stabilize Luzon grid
By Amy R. Remo
Philippine Daily Inquirer
May 9, 2012

The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines is investing P355 million to increase the expansion of South Luzon Naga substation, to ensure the efficient, stable and reliable delivery of electricity within Luzon.

In a statement, the NGCP said the installation of additional equipment is expected to increase the “operational capabilities” of this substation and at the same time, help avert overloading of the existing transformers.

Scheduled to be completed within the third quarter of this year, the Naga substation expansion project involved the installation of an additional 100-megavolt ampere transformer, nine units of 230-kiloVolt and three units of 69-kV power circuit breakers and substation accessories.

The project is under NGCP’s Luzon Substation Expansion I, which included the upgrade projects for Naga and six other substations in North Luzon. The Luzon Substation Expansion Project is aimed at accommodating the expected increase in load, or power supply that will run through NGCP’s transmission assets as soon as the new power projects start commercial operations.

These projects will be partly funded using a portion of the P14.3-billion capital expenditure budget set by the NGCP for this year alone.

NGCP is a privately owned corporation in charge of operating, maintaining and developing the country’s power grid and electricity superhighways. Its regular maintenance activities and ongoing projects aim to enhance the system reliability and maintain the quality of power delivered to electricity users.

NEW BEGINNINGS By Bum D. Tenorio, Jr.

May 6, 2012

Like a beautifully choreographed dance, Caramoan is a masterpiece of islands, sea and people coming together in a synchronized beat, rhythm and motion.

In this municipality on the Caramoan Peninsula in the province of Camarines Sur, Caramoan effortlessly showcases what seems to be a timeless and unbelievable imprint of God on earth. Pick an island, say a prayer, and be assured that God will hear your plea. After all, Caramoan is a paradise where its lush and unadulterated bounty is a testament to a graceful and symbiotic relationship between man and nature.

http://imageshack.us/a/img13/802/allure3m.jpg

Island hopping in Caramoan is a totally sublime experience. Just when you are savoring the allure of Sombrero Island, another nearby isle seduces your senses. And you just simply give in.

Is Holy Angel University the one that has a small but very comprehensive collection of Kapampangan historical artifacts? If so... don't miss it Hakz. It will give you an idea. Ang gandang museum.:)

It's the Center for Kapampangan Studies. We've got a film showing there about Kaspampangan history, culture, heritage and famous Kapampangans thorughout history :okay:

What if we have that one in Bicol too?

I am so impressed with Holy Angel University campus. Constructing inside is the building for their law school.

I got a reply from Mayor Bongat when I asked him about the plans in beuatification of dinaga and J. Hernandez Ave. Here it is:

"Right now we are already starting to upgrade that area, in Dinaga we are already placing streetlights; along J. Hernandez (People's Mall Area), we are already constructing new drainage networks. Perhaps should the budget for this year permits, we plan to construct a new storm drainage along J. Hernandez and start the asphalt overlay along Dinaga St."- Mayor John Bongat:banana::banana::banana:

Pilgrim Train To Carry ‘Ina’
By KRIS BAYOS
May 11, 2012, 10:06 PM

MANILA, Philippines - The government-owned and operated Bicol Express will transport a replica image of the Our Lady of Peñafrancia in a special trip from Naga City to Manila tomorrow.

The Philippine National Railways’ Bicol Express will bring Bicolandia’s “Ina” in a special trip to Metro Manila where she is set to visit different parishes to spread the centuries-old Marian devotion.

PNR Operations Manager Estelito Nierva said that “Ina’s” Pilgrim Train will leave Naga City at 7 a.m. tomorrow with other Manila-bound passengers.

“The image of Ina will stop at train stations in Ragay, Hondagua, Lucena, San Pablo and finally in Tutuban, where a welcome Mass and vigil will be held to honor her arrival,” he said.

The pilgrim image of “Ina” is brought, upon invitation, to parish churches and chapels of institutions and offices to spread the Marian devotion among the youth and beyond the borders of Bicolandia.

But this time, “Ina’s” pilgrimage is also meant to invite the Catholic faithful in a crusade to raise three million rosaries for Mama Mary. These rosaries will be distributed to public elementary and high school students of catechesis nationwide.

Nierva said it was not the first time that the government-run Bicol Express carried the pilgrim image of Ina—the first was when then Transportation Secretary Pete Prado was the general manager of PNR. “Bicol Express will also carry ‘Ina’ back to Naga City in September, just in time for the Peñafrancia feast.”

Financial services confab to be held in 5 key cities
The Philippine Star Updated
May 12, 2012 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - Online platform b2bpricenow.com will hold FinServ 2.0 on Financial Services Summit on May 24 and 25 at the Philippine Trade Training Center (PTTC) in Pasay City. This conclave offers a venue for the underserved market to discuss and provide new ways to improve their personal, business and financial needs.

“Because the technology now supports how to service the unbanked [or those not yet in the banking channel], now is the time to come up with FinServ 2.0.,” said Edgardo B. Herbosa, managing director of b2bpricenow.com.

FinServ 2.0 aims to gather key industry players both in the financial and IT sectors, and bring major technologies, innovative services and solutions within the reach of everyone. This two-day conference will integrate significant programs, such as a trade show of technologies and solutions, hands-on-trainings for cooperatives and local government units (LGUs), industry seminars on financial services, and product demonstrations. What’s more, it will highlight the launching of the b2bpaynow online payment service.

“So the FinServ2.0 is basically the debut of the financial services industry itself, for the first time different sectors and businesses that cater to the entire financial service industry will bond together and showcase their company, services, products, etc. It’s like a coming out party telling the LGUs, cooperatives and SMEs [small and medium enterprises] that are with Landbank and those that are not, that these are now the solutions that the entire industry offer,” Herbosa noted.

B2bpricenow.com is endorsed as an official e- Marketplace of the Philippines by the Congressional Oversight Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization (COCAFM). Operating as a social venture more than a business, it will hold the FinServ 2.0 as its first trade show project together with Landbank of the Philippines as its co-presentor.

“FinServ 2.0 really is to help the industry. What we’re doing here is we’re getting banking solutions and accessibility to the ground. And we plan to do this annually,” Herbosa stressed.

For the benefit of visitors, such as Landbank key cooperative officers and members, SMEs, LGU representatives and walk-in guests, related electronic financial services and solutions will be showcased in trade exhibits and sponsor booths during the summit. They may also hop on to b2bpricenow.com, where they can rightly register on their website.

Entrance to the summit is free of charge. For those who can’t make it to the Manila-leg of the conclave, they still have the chance as FinServ 2.0 Summit is also scheduled on June 14 and 15 at the Cebu Grand Convention Center in Cebu City; July 25 and 26, Davao Convention Center, Davao City; August 15 and 16, Supreme Hotel Convention Plaza, Baguio City; and August 30 to 31, Avenue Plaza & Convention Center, Naga City. For more information, contact FinServ2.0 secretariat at telephone numbers 029020952, 025091811, or 09328499364 or visit website: wwww.finserv20.com for more details.

UNEP student shares experiences in Japan sojourn

RIGA CITY — Fresh from an island nation in East Asia, Maria Jela Mendones Moran, an incoming third year Bachelor of Arts Major in Political Science student of the University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP), shared the invaluable insights she has gained during her 9-day sojourn in Japan.
Moran was among the lucky recipients of the Japan East-Asia Network of Exchange Students and Youths (JENESYS) Programme which was initiated by Japan during the 2nd East Asia Summit (EAS) held in 2007. The 5-year programme includes an annual exchange of about 6,000 youths from its 10 member states, including the Philippines .
Her stay in Japan from April 10 to 18, Moran shared, has exposed her to the culture and way of life of the Japanese people, thereby appreciating the uniqueness of our own nation.
“Few of the historical places that we have visited include the Hiroshima site where every nook and corner seemed to speak of the tragic piece of history. We were also brought to the environmental center in Hiroshima and made to experience their customs through the homestay program. All of those experiences made me appreciate more the value of being a Filipino,” Moran added.

Caramoan, one of 10 best beaches

http://www.bicolmail.com/2012/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/EXOTIC2-300x163.jpg

PILI, Camarines Sur – The Philippines is made up of over 7,000 islands, all of them quaintly tropical, most of them awesomely attractive, and a goodly number downright pure and simple beautiful.
A jewel of an islet, offshore Gota Village Resort in Caramoan Peninsula is one of them.

The entire peninsula of Caramoan is in fact a virtual tourism Eden, replete with exotic islets, pristine beaches, lagoons, rock formations, freshwater pools, underground cave and rivers, diving spots of diversified corals and marine life.
These unique and natural features of Caramoan are the reasons why Caramoan has become a favorite location site by producers of the highly rated reality TV series “Survivor.”

Coupled with CamSur Gov. LRay Villafuerte’s uniquely judicious but aggressively innovative tourism development program, Caramoan Peninsula has substantially boosted the province to the stature of top tourism destination of the country.

Caramoan itself with Gota Village Resort project of the provincial government as centrepiece was chosen by Top Resa Paris, Europe’s largest travel and tourism forum, as best tourism destination in the world in 2008, the same year that Nature magazine selected CamSur as best eco-tourism site of the world.
CamSur was also cited top player in this part of the world by Condé Nast Travellers Survey for Asian Islands Destinations.

Occupying the other spots in the short list of fabulous islands and beaches of the Philippines are El Nido in Palawan, Boracay in Aklan, Palaui Island in Cagayan Valley, Panglao in Bohol, Bantayan Island in Cebu, Samal in Davao, Siargao Islands in Surigao del Norte, Great Sta. Cruz Island in Zamboanga, Pagudpud/Bangui in Ilocos Norte.

Our Lady of Peñafrancia pilgrim image due in Manila Sunday
GMA News Online
May 12, 2012 9:50am

The miraculous pilgrim image of Our Lady of Penafrancia, patroness of Bicolandia, will arrive in Manila from Bicol on Mother's Day on Sunday for a three-day visit.

According to the Philippine National Railways, the pilgrim image is to arrive along with devotees aboard a special PNR coach for a three-day prayer or triduum.

In a news release posted on its website Friday, the PNR said the special PNR “Pilgrimage Train” will leave Naga City in Bicol at 7:00 a.m. Sunday.

"The purpose of the visit is to spread the devotion to Ina, as how Bicolanos address Her, and to invite participation of the lay faithful in the crusade to raise three million rosaries for Mama Mary. These rosaries will be distributed to public elementary and high school students of catechesis nationwide," it said.

Upon arrival in Manila, the pilgrim image will be welcomed at the PNR Tutuban station by PNR officials and personnel. It will stay there for an overnight Vigil where devotees can pay homage to it.

On Monday, it will be transferred to Sta. Monica Parish Church in Tondo via a procession that will go around the Tutuban Shopping Mall at 4 p.m.

After the Triduum, there will be a “mantling,” a healing session where Ina’s “manto” (cape) will be laid on the faithful.

Since 2010, the pilgrim image of Ina is brought, upon invitation, to parish churches and chapels of institutions and offices, where either a three-day prayer or a novena is held.

Caceres Archbishop Leonardo Legaspi initiated the pilgrimage to spread spreading the devotion of Ina among the youth and beyond the borders of Bicol.

PNR currently operates two commuter rail services in Metro Manila and Bicol.

One leaves at 6:30 p.m. bound for Naga and another at 8:30 p.m. bound for Ligao, and vice versa.

The PNR's newly renovated railways aim to revitalize commuter services in the capital, and restore the Manila-Bicol route. — ELR, GMA News

Bicol nga ang naisip ko when I visited the University earlier this year. It would be nice to have a one-stop museum show casing the history and beauty of Bicol. Sana may philanthropist na mag donate ng funds for a project like this.... and a group of people capable of charming private citizens/ Institutions to either lend or donate their materials for the Museum. Putting up a permanent exhibit like this is no joke.... hard work.. and expensive... but very fulfilling lalo na kung dadagsain ng mga turista. During the times my family and I traveled, in our list of things to do was to visit the local museums. Through word of mouth then from what displays impress visitors during such visits, the more people you will attract to COME and SEE CAMSUR. Cheers!!!:banana::banana:

Naga PNP reinforces crime-busting program
By Gerald O. Enguero

NAGA CITY — The Naga City Police Office (NCPO), with the support of the city government, formally launched during the flag-raising ceremony at the city hall compound here a new program aimed at reducing the incidence of crime against property.
Moved by Mayor John Bongat’s earnest desire to bring back security and order in the streets and in the homes, the city PNP here launched the “APRUB” program that is aimed at facing the problem squarely, to be made more effective by ensuring the active participation not only of concerned law enforcement agencies but also by the people themselves.
From the word “APRUB” A stands for “Aratubangon” which means to face the problem head-on with all the concerned offices and officials discussing and giving their all-out support in addressing the problem of theft, robbery, snatching, and similar petty crimes. P stands for Panirimbagon which means that violators should be punished for the crimes they committed. R stands for Ralamagon or to run after the criminals and bring them to the bar of law and justice. U stands for Uruntukon or to put a stop to these criminal activities, while B stands for Baraguhon, or give the criminals an opportunity to reform after being meted with the penalties they deserve so that they could go back to the mainstream of society and become productive citizens once again.

OPINION: Naga as convention capital?
Eufronio K. Maristela

ALL roads lead to Naga City and Camarines Sur as several national organizations opted to hold their national conventions in Naga City and Camarines Sur. As I write this column several lodges of the masonic organizations are gathering at the convention hall in Pili for their annual convention. Several other organizations are also slated to gather here. It would not be far-fetched that someday Naga City and Camarines Sur may be dubbed as the convention capital in Southern Luzon if not in the entire country. Cebu City in the Visayas Region and Davao City in Mindanao have already earned for themselves the monicker as convention cities in their respective regions. If you had been to either Cebu City and Davao City you would readily agree that their being situs of many national conventions is indeed, well deserved. The local adminstrations of these places have seen to it that tourists and delagates to the convention find the place worth going to. The local administrations of Naga City and the province of Camarines Sur may as well follow the examples of Cebu and Davao if they wish to attract more national conventions and tourists to the province and the city. For one thing, there is not much tourist attractions in Naga unlike Cebu and Davao. Nonetheless, the beautiful beaches in the Caramoan peninsula and those in the suburbs of Naga may yet beckon tourists to our place. If this column may be allowed to suggest, both the city administrations of Naga and the province should provide brochures and pamphlets at the airport with informations of places to go and see. This has been the practice of many tourist oriented places abroad.

TRIVIA:

Speaking of national convention, the Knights of Columbus is slated to start its national convention at the Manila Hotel tomorrow, (Thursday April 26). Delegates from Naga and Camarines Sur left last night. Unfortunately, some professional pre-occupations here in Naga made it impossible for me to come with the group.

MANILA, Philippines—As Filipinos mark Mother’s Day on Sunday, the image of Bicol’s famed “Ina,” the Our Lady of Peñafrancia, will begin a voyage on a pilgrim train to various Metro Manila parishes, including the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines website said the image will depart Naga City at 7 a.m. Sunday on board Philippine National Railway’s “Pilgrim Train” after an overnight vigil and a morning Mass.

The image will be accompanied by a 15-man delegation from the group 3 Million Rosaries for Ina Crusade.

CamSur Watersports Complex: Undoubtedly a Paradise to Many Tourists
It’s really more FUN in the Philippines and most especially when you are in CamSur Watersports Complex (CWC). CWC is located within the Provincial Capitol Complex, Cadlan, Pili, Camarines Sur. It is indeed one of the province’s top tourist drawers; this unique water sport park features excellent facilities for wakeboarding, water skiing, and water skating. It also has a six-point cable ski system that’s great for any level of water skiers, from beginners to professionals.

Last 2011, CamSur launched a new Slogan : ‘Camsun. Camsand. Camsur’. This is to market CamSur and CWC effectively. According to reports, Tourism arrivals in CamSur reached an incredible 1.9 million. Everyone, it seems, wants a piece of the CamSur mystique and adventure. In fact, in October 2011, Camarines Sur hosted the 22nd Philippine Advertising Congress — outbidding Baguio and Cebu in the process.Read more (http://www.callataxi.com.ph/article/camsur-watersports-complex-undoubtedly-a-paradise-to-many-tourists/)

By the way, construction of BDO Elias Angeles St. ( formerly Bangko Central ng Pilipinas ) will start nextweek or this May. Once, renovated and ready to operate, the BDO Plaza will start it's reconstruction, I heard it will be a higher level if I'm not wrong they will have to at least level it either Land bank building ( Puregold ) or PNB building. Ms. S visited one time and said " why is my bank is smaller than the two buildings?"

Here's the accompanying article of this photo....I am not so sure if it was a typo error but the trip from Manila to Legaspi took more than 24 hours? Was that correct? in 1971?....GorioB

PNR MAYON SPECIAL: NEW BUT STILL LATE
By NOLI AYOSTE
Of the Express staff
Daily Express – July 18,1972

“This is our answer to along public clamor.”

Col. Nicnaor Jimenez, general manger of the Philippine National Railways, made this statement after the successful inaugural round trip of the Mayon Limited Special from Manila to Legaspi and back last Saturday and Sunday.

The Mayon Limited Special, sometimes called the “Prestige Train “ owing to its spic-and-span look left Tutuban station 5:30 am Saturday. It arrived in Legaspi City at 9:00 pm Sunday, carrying 273 passengers, which included government and PNR officials, guests, and print, audio and visual media representatives.

The Delay

The train was scheduled to arrive at 6:15 pm, but several stopovers along the way delayed it almost three hours.

The Mayon Limited Special left Legaspi at 9 am Sunday, arriving at the Tutuban station at 1:30 am Monday morning.

Paraphrasing President Marcos, who declared that the railways is the lifeline of the Bicol region, the PNR general manager said that the railroad is the pulse and heartbeat of the economy of the Bicol region.

“It is the main transportation artery for the economic and industrial progress of the southern provinces,” Jimenez said.

The PNR general manager made this observation even as he expressed the hope that the improvement and construction work o in the Manila South Road would be hastened to cope with the increasing demand of commuters and traders for an increased and better rail and land transportation service.

Other ranking PNR officials opined that with the advent of the rainy season, the overland trip to the Bicol region would hardly be bearable on the part of the riding public.

Limited Run

It was also learned that the Mayon Limited Special which is composed of tow motor-power-baggage cars will start its regular Manila Legaspi run on Friday, July 21.

The two-motor-baggage car has a distinguishing feature from the ordinary one: the car need not turn around since there is one control car at each end, Jimenez explained.

The Mayon Limited Special is part of the 17 units acquired from Japan though reparations at a cost of $1.7 million. Unlike the ordinary Mayon Limited, the Night Express and the Bicol Limited, the Mayon Limited Special will not have an economy units, it will have first class de luxe and tourist compartments.

^^ Sisay may aram kung sain ining 0.4 has. property kan Robinsons Land Corporation sa Naga? 0.4 has. is how many sq. meters?

This is an old property of RLC located in Blumentritt St. (formerly owned by the Trivino's) meant to be their Digitel Office until they acquired a bigger property in Penafrancia where present Digitel Office is located.

According to my friend from RLC, Robinson's was able to acquire 2 new properties in Naga City. One in Almeda Highway and another in Concepcion. This we will have to check.

Crusade for Our Lady of Peñafrancia’s 3M rosaries goes to Manila
By Juan Escandor Jr.
Inquirer Southern Luzon
11:11 am | Sunday, May 13th, 2012

NAGA CITY, Philippines – Aboard the iconic Bicol train of the Philippine National Railways (PNR), the image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia or “Ina” to the devotees of the Bicol patroness journeyed at 7 a.m. on Sunday to Manila to visit parishes and campaign for the completion of three million rosaries for distribution to elementary school children.

Initiated by a group called “3M Rosaries for Ina Project” or “3M for Ina”, operations director Marilyn Flores said the crusade of producing and distributing rosaries to elementary student started in 2010 during the tercentenary of devotion to the Bicol patroness.

Flores said the 3M for Ina was endorsed by Archbishop Leonardo Z. Legazpi as part of the continuing celebration of the Bicol patroness’ 300-year devotion that started in 1710.

She said the 3 million rosaries would help spread the devotion to Ina outside of the Bicol region by giving out rosaries with the image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia on it and at the same time solicit support for the project.

So far, Flores said, they have gathered and distributed half a million rosaries to the school children in Archdiocese of Caceres.
