Naga Airport Improvement - Night Landing Capability

$18 Million VOR/DME faciltiy earmark for 14 Airports
May 19, 2012

The Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) announced Tuesday the earmarking of $18 million dollars (P800 million) for the upgrading of 14 domestic airports across the country.

Secretary Manuel Roxas said the fund has already been transferred to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) for project implementation covering major domestic airports to be capable of night landing operations as part of the solutions to the seasonal congestion at the airport.

Phase one of the project covers the airport of Tagbilaran, Legaspi, Butuan, and Naga, while Phase II covers the airports Dumaguete, Ozamis, Cotabato, Dipolog, Roxas, Pagadian, Tuguegarao, Busuanga, Surigao, and San Jose.

Caticlan airport upgrade for night flight operation is currently ongoing.

CAAP presently has 14 airports capable of night landing operations. They are the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Clark International Airport, Subic International Airport, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, Davao International Airport (Davao), Iloilo Airport, Cagayan De Oro Airport, Bacolod Silay Airport, Kalibo International Airport, Tacloban Airport, Puerto Princesa International Airport, Zamboanga International Airport, General Santos International Airport and Laoag International Airport.

The installation of night landing facilities on the 14 airports will pave the way for the domestic carriers to ease traffic at the NAIA where they can now schedule their flights out of NAIA on non-peak hours. They can then make a turn-around flight and still be able to leave some provincial airports at anytime of the day.

Meanwhile, Roxas also announced during the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with domestic airline operators for the integration of the terminal fee into the airfare, that another 100 million pesos was approved for the rehabilitation of the 30-year old Terminal 1 and another 50 million pesos for the repair of Terminal 3.

this is great news! this can mean more flights -- and more travel options. with late evening flights one can maximize one's stay in naga/ camsur.

they're still silent, though, about runway expansion :)

Just an observation guys. When we had our school saturation campaign along the streets of Naga, I observed that even as late as 11 PM jeepneys and tricycles are still plying to centro proper. During my college years, at 9PM onwards, I find it hard to look for a jeepney servicing Del Rosario to centro.

more and more residents now in Del Rosario due to the opening of more subdivisions in the area.

remember when, in the 80s, to live in "Housing" (Villa Grande Homes) was to live far! i think the limited jeepneys even only stopped at the Pepsi Cola plant. now it's a hive.

Are there any plans to come up with a new Naga welcome arc?

IMO, a new one must be constructed with a historical and cultural theme.

Talk to Arch. Priela a while ago and he mentioned that next month will be the start of the renovation of the Penafrancia Museum.

Hope so, with the presence of Tugawe and Tinago Cove along with existing small scale resorts spread out in the different islands of Caramoan is more than enough to serve the surging tourists in Caramoan.

Just an opinion, why not build resorts far away from the shore :) lets' say, 2 kilometers. Building resorts and hotels near the shore will surely contaminate the water as most of the waste are pump directly to the shore.

I agree with that :okay: A distant hotels from the beach will prevent any environmental-marine problems, and in-case of Tsunami a higher level would be more safer.

arog kaini ang magayon na ilaag sa caramoan.
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vdq0HMHcbCY/TqRjYBbdiXI/AAAAAAAABrg/OZjb96nzAIc/s1600/063_63.JPG

Magayonon na marhay, with this huge industries would mean a state of the art tech waste management system.

while i hope for more tourists and more progress for caramoan i certainly do dont want "development of boracay proportions" happening to caramoan. boracay now is full of concrete structures. Even fastfoods and restos found in Manila are there. It gets so crowded with visitors that the place doesn't become relaxing anymore.

The local and Provincial Government should learn from the mistakes in Boracay so that it will not happen in Caramoan. Too much commercialism without proper policies, and poor environmental restriction /regulation will cost environmental disaster in the future.

we have collected travel books in our library
as they give us a thorough information
of what to do and what to expect
in our country of destination

Lonely Planet has been one of our reliable travel guide in the past
and the last two issues 2006 and 2009 editions
gave glowing reviews about Naga and CamSur
as one of the best destinations in the Philippines.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh616/rcaceres_jr/Lonely%20Planet/IMG_3759.jpg

As early as 2006, during the pre- CWC days
it described Naga City
as a very hip and cosmopolitan city
and together with CamSur
as South Luzon's best kept secrets.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh616/rcaceres_jr/Lonely%20Planet/IMG_3762.jpg
2009 edition again had a
glowing review- this time
they included Caramoan and CWC.

2009 and 2012 a, they edited out the
best kept secret tag
may because after being one of the top
tourists drawer-
the secret has been out for long.

New tag line has be added though:

Welcome sir!

I think what makes it a bit expensive despite of its not so big studio is due to its complicated and expensive equipments.

Haven't heard on the construction of ABC5 regional network. I assume the station is U/C at Concepcion Pequena.

And state-of-the-art equipment :okay:

I haven't seen a construction on at Concepcion... I assume it's still on hold.

AFP Helps In Renovation of Schools
In Camarines Sur, for instance, the AFP is planning to tie-up with the local DepEd and support the on-going Alternative Learning System (ALS) program particularly on employing troopers to act as facilitators to augment the barangay literacy workers and instructors facilitating the out-of-school youths and adults.

Currently, 14 barangays in Tigaon, Camarines Sur are benefiting from this learning program. In the past, indigenous community folks and some of AFP’s Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGU) deployed in far-flung communities benefited from this ALS program. NEDA sees 15% annual BPO growth
By Cai U. Ordinario, BusinessMirror
Posted at 04/11/2012

MANILA, Philippines - With more foreign companies looking at cutting costs for their business operations through offshoring, the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) disclosed that the business-process outsourcing (BPO) sector may see a growth of not below 15 percent every year.

Based on the 2011 to 2016 Road map of the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP), the Neda said the projection of the association for an annual growth of 15 percent every year would be more feasible in the sector than a low of only 9 percent or a high of 20 percent every year.

A 15-percent growth, the BPAP said, would generate 3.15 million direct and indirect jobs and taxes in the amount of $6 billion every year. The Neda said this is likely considering the global economic environment.

Majuca said the next-wave cities that have been identified by the BPAP and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) include Davao City, Sta. Rosa in Laguna, Metro Subic in Zambales and Naga City in Camarines Sur, among others.

Is it safe to post the additional BPO to operate here in Naga. I think it was sir Bob who posted in our account about _______ BPO soon here in Naga :)

MANILA, Philippines - TOTAL similarity in names, while some with just a letter or two of difference, abounds in towns and cities in the country. Not only that, these names are also found in Spain, Mexico, North America, and in South America.

No historical explanation from government agencies concerned or from historical societies was sought by this columnist as to why this curious duplication.

This peculiar enumeration is just to provide our readers a wholesome human-interest reading.

But how many individuals out there – college students and professional alike – are aware of this odd listing?

Naga in Cebu recently became a city. Can it some day be at par with the old, bustling city of Naga in Camarines Sur?

DID YOU KNOW???
Contrary to popular belief, Papaya is actually an aphrodisiac.
Papaya is estrogenic, meaning it has compounds that act as the female hormone estrogen. It has been used as a folk remedy in promoting menstruation and milk production, facilitating childbirth and increasing the female libido.

i'm really confused which is which.. i thought ang bitukang manok is the one in CamNorte. When I Googled it, the one in Atimonan is also being called bitukang manok? :dunno: ribong lugod

the one in Atimonan is higher and stiff, but in CamNorte it's not

This is Bitukang Manok, Camarines Norte,( located not far from Camarines Sur & Norte border ). The picture is quite similar to the Bitukang Manok Atimonan, Quezon.

I think that's the reason many travelers get mix-up with the location

Bumped off? Airlines now have to pay you more

Airline passengers bumped off flights due to the practice of overbooking by carriers will now receive higher compensation for their trouble, the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has ordered.

Amid increasing passenger complaints about budget carriers bumping off passengers arbitrarily, the CAB on Monday published Economic Regulation No. 7 defining the rights of ticket holders.

The main provision covers an increase in compensation for passengers who, through no fault of their own, are denied boarding a flight.

“Carriers shall pay passengers holding confirmed reserved space—who had presented themselves for carriage at the proper time and place and fully complied with the carrier’s check-in and reconfirmation procedures—but who had been denied boarding for lack of space,” the new rule says.

Passengers on domestic flights will be entitled to a full refund of their ticket plus compensation of P3,000, up from the previous compensation rate of P150 that was set in the 1970s.

International passengers that are bumped off would also get a refund and compensation of P5,000, up from the previous P500.

“If accepted by the passenger, the compensation shall constitute liquidated damages for all damages incurred by the passenger as a result of the carriers’ failure to provide the passenger with confirmed reserved space,” the CAB said.

The new rule also states that before an airline can bump off a passenger due to lack of space, the company should first ask for volunteers to give up their seats. Airlines should give those who volunteer priority boarding on the next available flight.

The CAB said that in cases where the number of volunteers is not enough, passengers who would still be bumped off should be compensated based on the above rates.

The new CAB rule also says that passengers who are bumped off should be provided with refreshments or meals and hotel accommodations if the next flight leaves the next day, as well as transportation to and from the airport, free communications such as phone calls or Internet access and first aid, if necessary.

Passengers affected by flight delays of more than two hours that are an airline’s fault are also entitled to the same benefits. A passenger that opts out of his or her flight due to protracted delays should be given a full refund, the CAB said.

The airlines’ rights are protected by the new rule as well.

The CAB said airlines would be exempt from liability if trip delays are caused by safety and security reasons, “acts of God,” weather, labor strikes and other reasons beyond a company’s control.

The airlines are also absolved if it is the passenger’s fault that he missed his flight.

Contrary to popular belief, Papaya is actually an aphrodisiac.
Papaya is estrogenic, meaning it has compounds that act as the female hormone estrogen. It has been used as a folk remedy in promoting menstruation and milk production, facilitating childbirth and increasing the female libido.

but with bigger impact on masses.

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh616/rcaceres_jr/Summer%20Over/Kaogma001.jpg

According the Gov. LRay during an interview
With Jo Osabal- there is no truth to the rumor
that they is budget for the Kaogma…

http://i1254.photobucket.com/albums/hh616/rcaceres_jr/Summer%20Over/Kaogma003.jpg

The celebration this year however was designed
as the Kaogma at grassroots level
where pocket festivities will be held
in different towns of CamSur
celeberated with merriment
distribution of free Philheatlth Card,
Medical and Surgical Missions.
Dalan Kalangitan and Miss Kaogma
with the finals to be held on a later date.

Shades of electioneering pretending to be a festival?
Kaogma is a good excuse
considering the election is just a year away
and the looming Nueva Camarines plebiscite.

Yes Virginia.
There is Kaogma and would be celebrated
with a different intention this time.:)

8 solons vow to block bill turning gov’t hospitals into GOCCs
Philippine Daily Inquirer
8:57 pm | Tuesday, May 22nd, 2012

DAVAO CITY—At least eight militant lawmakers formed what they said was a coalition to block the passage of a bill that would convert at least 26 public hospitals into government-owned and -controlled corporations.

Calling their group Makabayan Coalition, the lawmakers said the bill would deprive the country’s poor of access to free health services.

Rep. Teddy Casiño, of Bayan Muna, said House Bill No. 6069 was simply “anti-poor.”

Health Secretary Enrique Ona had expressed support for the bill saying it would make the hospitals efficient.

Among the hospitals covered by the bill are Cagayan Valley Medical Center, Veterans Regional Hospital, Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center, Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center, Dr. Paulino J. Garcia Memorial Research and Medical Center, Jose B. Lingad Memorial Medical Center, Bicol Medical Center (Naga City), Bicol Research Training and Teaching Hospital (Legazpi City), Quirino Memorial Medical Center, Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Rizal Medical Center, Amang Rodriguez Medical Center, San Lazaro Hospital, Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, Eastern Visayas Regional Medical Center, Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital, Western Visayas Medical Center, Northern Mindanao Medical Center, Southern Philippines Medical Center, Zamboanga City Medical Center, Cotabato Regional and Medical Center, Caraga Regional Hospital and Davao Regional Hospital.

Privatizing the BRTTH in Legazpi would help boost the chances for the BU College of Medicine to materialize.

It would pave way for a BU takeover making BU- BRTTH College of Medicine possible.

We are in dire need of a good medical school in the region and BU is our only hope.

The only hindrance is its authority over the BRTTH which is under DOH and would need a legislation for a BU takover.

This bill would be of help.

Robinsons Land earns P2.24 B in end-March

By Zinnia B. Dela Peña (The Philippine Star) Updated May 22, 2012

MANILA, Philippines - Gokongwei-led Robinsons Land Corp. (RLC) posted a net income of P2.24 billion in the first half of its fiscal year ending September this year, up 10 percent from P2.04 billion in the previous period, on steady growth in sales.

In a financial report submitted to the Philippine Stock Exchange, the property developer said unaudited revenues from October 2011 to March 2012 grew 13.6 percent to P7.11 billion while EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes depreciation and amortization) rose seven percent to P3.93 billion.

Combined real estate and hotel revenues rose by 12 percent to P6.68 billion from P5.94 billion.

Interest income grew 37 percent due to higher level of money market placements.

Costs and expenses, however, climbed to P4.28 billion from P3.68 billion due to higher level of repairs and maintenance for various malls, higher film rentals, and higher cost of sales from residential division, among others.

The commercial centers division contributed 49 percent or P3.5 billion to total revenues, posting a 15-percent growth.

Amusement revenue went up 21 percent to P396 million.

RLC’s residential division accounted for 32 percent of total revenues or P2.26 billion, up 15 percent year-on-year due to higher level of realized sales based on project completion.

Meanwhile, the office buildings division pumped in 10 percent or P698.8 million, an increase of nine percent.

Lease income is derived from eight office buildings – Galleria Corporate Center, Robinsons Equitable Tower, Robinsons Summit Center, Robinsons Cybergate Centers Towers 1, 2 and 3, Cybergate Plaza and Cebu Cybergate.

Revenues from the hotels division reached P679.9 million, an increase of nine percent. Crowne Plaza Galleria Manila, Holiday Inn Galleria Manila, Summit Circle Cebu (formerly Cebu Midtown Hotel), Summit Ridge Hotel, Go Hotel Cybergate, and Go Hotel Palawan posted occupancy rates of 83 percent, 81 percent, 48 percent, 40 percent, 90 percent and 37 percent, respectively.

As of end-March, RLC’s total asset base stood at P72.4 billion.

What is good with the project is that though the primary source is entirely on waste the investor still come up with a handsome looking design. It looks more of mall or a hotel to me
