Privatizing the BRTTH in Legazpi would help boost the chances for the BU College of Medicine to materialize.

It would pave way for a BU takeover making BU- BRTTH College of Medicine possible.

We are in dire need of a good medical school in the region and BU is our only hope.

The only hindrance is its authority over the BRTTH which is under DOH and would need a legislation for a BU takover.

This bill would be of help.

Model Bicolano students teach children of Naga love for reading

Between stacks of memorabilia of two well-loved sons of Bicol—Raul Roco and Bienvenido Santos—about 40 young listeners huddled for the Inquirer Read-Along session held at the Raul S. Roco Library in Naga City during the program’s fifth anniversary.

Through theatrical presentations interspersed with book reading, the finalists of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP) in Bicol, along with students of the College of Education of Ateneo de Naga University (AdNU), came to share their love for reading in the storytelling sessions.

They presented three stories and made vivid the values of thrift, courage, perseverance, cleanliness and curiosity to the pupils of nearby Mac Mariano Elementary School.

Donna Mae Delfino, Daniel Philip Dy, James Robert Macatangay, Reejeem Monsalve, Ramish Baldoza, Clarissa Bombase and Marlon Pontillas took turns in giving life to the stories that included “Si Langgam at si Tipaklong (The Ant and the Grasshopper)” and “Si Ching na Takot sa Dilim (Ching Who Is Afraid of the Dark).”

GMA Network for sale at P100 billion - Gozon

MANILA, Philippines - The three major owners of broadcast company GMA Network will sell their stakes to a buyer that will offer P100 billion for 100 percent of the company.

“I will sell for P100 billion, and this includes the 23 percent held by the public. At P100 billion, I will sign with my eyes closed,” GMA chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon said.

According to Gozon, more than one conglomerate has offered to acquire GMA and one of them is the group of Manuel V. Pangilinan, which owns rival TV 5. There were earlier reports that Pangilinan had offered P40 to P45 billion for a 100-percent stake in GMA.

Capital expenditure for 2012 has been set at P679 million of which P183 million has been spent. Of the remaining amount, around P150 million will be used for the construction and equipping of two new regional stations in Ilocos Sur and in Naga, while another P100 million will be for the further upgrade of transmitter networks in rural areas.

MANILA, Philippines - The 2nd largest media group in the Philippines, GMA Network Inc., saw net income slump 27% to P388 million in the first quarter of 2012 from P534 million in the same period last year, on the back of a dip in revenues and a rise in expenses.

Gilberto R. Duavit explained that of the expected P679 million 2012 capital expenditure, P120 million is "allocated to the upgrading of existing digital facilities," roughly P150 million to the construction of 2 new regional stations in Illocos Sur and Naga, about P100 million to the upgrade of the transmitter network, especially in rural areas.

FOR their exemplary academic performance and selfless service to the community, four Bicolanos will represent the region in the national search of the Ten Outstanding Students of the Philippines (TOSP).

Considered as the country’s highest award-giving body for students, TOSP annually recognizes students who have not only excelled academically but also have dedicated their talents and leadership abilities in making a difference and becoming socially involved in their respective communities and organizations.

The region’s representatives are Ateneo de Naga’s Daniel Philip Dy, Central Bicol State University of Agriculture-Sipocot’s Ramish Baldoza, University of Nueva Caceres’ Ma. Clarissa Lavena Bombase and University of Saint Anthony’s Marlon Pontillas.

CamSur capitol backs women empowerment

Techvoc studes in coastal town hurdle courses

PRESENTACION, Camarines Sur — A total of 67 students graduated in the short-term technical vocational courses last May 25, this year, Buklod Training Center, Barangay Cagnipa, this town.

Of the total number of graduates, sixteen achieved the needed proficiency in Dressmaking; twenty in Baking and Food Processing; thirteen in Electrical Installation and eighteen in Automotive Mechanic.

Implementation of the short-term technical vocational courses for the four barangays of Cagnipa, Lagha, Ayugao and Pili in the municipality of Presentacion is part of the Convenio project being pursued by the Caceres Social Action Foundation, Inc. (CASAFI) in partnership with the Partido State University (PSU) – TESDA Extension Services.

DTI Camarines Sur spokesman Jay T. Ablan said that aside from the popularly known conveniences that online businesses provide, it was also observed that such enterprises could help save the environment or at least lessen the factors that cause pollution in the surroundings.

NAGA CITY — Short of a distinctive definition of Bicol literature, writers attending the fourth quadrennial Bicol writers’ conference “Pagsurat Bikol”, held recently at the Ateneo de Naga University, took comfort with the fact that Bicol is in their hearts and minds when they weave pieces of literary work.

“Bicol literature is poetry, novel or fiction written about Bicol. Not necessarily in the Bicol language, not necessarily published in Bicol, and not necessarily by a Bicolano, but it’s about Bicol. Meaning, if it’s a short story the setting is in Bicol or its character is a Bicolano. It’s about Bicol,” according to Marne Kilates.

NAGA CITY — Slated to coincide with the celebration of the 114th Independence Day of the Republic of the Philippines, the celebration for the 63rd Charter Anniversary of Naga City, set on May 28-June 19, is expected to feature the continuation of cultural and environmental efforts set moving by the local government during the past three years according to City Information Officer IV Allen Reondanga.

“Pilimania,” a series of tree-planting activities started last year for the propagation of pili trees within the city, is set by the local government on June 13-17 with a activities ranging from the actual planting of trees on June 16 and 17 (citywide Mass Pili Planting on June 16 and Pilimania Extreme Charter Day Plant, Run and Exhibit on June 17), a motorcade on June 13 with a Kick-Off Motorcade, the 2nd Pilimania Charter Fair on June 13-16 and a Pilimania Extreme Jam free concert on June 17 at the Naga City Coliseum.

Kaogma fest’s new format bared

PILI, Camarines Sur – CamSur will celerate this year’s Kaogma Festival to mark the 433rd Foundation Annniversary of Camarines Sur with some new twists – a different format and a more meaninful perspective.

This developed with the announcement of a two-week long program of activities recently approved by Governor LRay Villafuerte clearly showing a marked difference of this year’s celebration from the festivities of previous years.

The first time the foundation day of CamSur was celebrated was in 1998, after extensive research that extended up to archives in Spain conclusively established only late in 1997 that it was on May 27, 1579 that the royal decree was issued ordering Spanish soldiers in the area that is now Bicol Region to establish a community to be called Nueva Caceres where colonists may settle. The decree eventually led to the establishment of the present province of Camarines Sur.

NAGA CITY — In a joint and collective motion, the Sangguniang Panlungsod here passed Resolution No. 2012-243 authorizing the City Treasurer and the City Accountant to disburse the amount of P1M to cover probable expenses of the city government in addressing the alarming increase of dengue cases in the city, chargeable against city hall’s calamity fund.

This came after City Health Officer, Dr. Vito ‘Butch’ Borja II, during the Sanggunian’s regular session last Tuesday reported that there was a dramatic increase of 91.77 percent in dengue cases in the city from January to May this year which was posted at 303 cases, as compared to the same period last year which had 158 cases. Fortunately, in all these cases, no fatality was reported.

Donning the catchphrase ‘Pilimania Extreme’ as it enters its second year in June, this year, in time for the celebration of the 64th Naga City Charter Anniversary, the project will lead a citywide planting of 15,000 pili seedlings until December, this year. The figure intends to overshoot the target of 30,000 trees.

SPLIT, divide, never has there been a good outcome into it (LRV sees split CamSur plebiscite in 2012, Bicol Mail, May 17, 2012). Look, in the U.S., when the confederate states decided secession from the union, civil war immediately ensued. The 4-year war resulted in the industrialization of America and the victory of the union. Nevertheless, the intended split, the south-envisioned division, did not materialize; rather, the union, the constitution, democracy and liberalism made America stronger and industrialized. For us, Filipinos, we always resort to division. Why? Personal interest. Are we not enough to be in power for, say, 3 terms (9 years)? Why do we always want to perpetuate ourselves in power? Even up to the point of dividing a united entity? Cebu, Cavite, Pangasinan, Bulacan, Pampanga and Laguna are richer than CamSur by more than double in figures, but, did any of these provinces ever think of dividing their respective province?~ENGR. The last Pagsurat Bikolnon 4 was an event that must be remembered for the variety of creative and critical thoughts shared for reflection, so that as Bikol writers and cultural workers, we can continue to engage in discourse and forge linkages with kindred spirits who are no longer confined to the narrow definition of Bikol literature.

Some writers believe that Bikol literature must be spoken or written in Bikol. Solely, I disagree. Write— we must in Bikol tongues. However, we should also recognize that given our historical experience, we must also look at the works of other writers who come from Bikol, love Bikol and continue to write about Bikol, even if they continue to write in “a borrowed tongue.” Our historical situation has given us the “power” to move/translate (with grace) our thoughts in one language to another. Why should we lose this rare gift for the sake of “Bikol sana”? The arguments here are highly polemical. But I contend that Bikol literature must include rather than exclude.

It is not known whether Archbishop Santos subsequently pursued this idea but it is clear to us that his request to have the old shrine granted the title of Basilica did not materialize.

And so we come to the year 1960 when Archbishop Santos was again toying with the idea of a Basilica for Our Lady of Peñafrancia. This time many other people shared the dream with the good Archbishop. The Association of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, approved to be organized by Bishop Jorge Imperial Barlin by virtue of a decree he issued on September 18, 1908, and in charge of spreading the devotion and upkeep of the shrine, expressed the same sentiments and they proposed not only a title for the old shrine but, as a matter of fact, a new edifice, a new Basilica of Our Lady of Peñafrancia. Archbishop Santos then, with the help of his co-adjutor bishop who later succeeded him as Archbishop of Caceres, Archbishop of Caceres, Archbishop Emeritus Teopisto Alberto, started to scout for the place for the new church and home for the Ina. He was able to secure a donation of about three hectares from Mr. & Mrs. Macario Mariano at Barrio Balatas across the Naga River from the old Peñafrancia church.

The Seminar-Workshop for new Lectors entitled “The Ministry of Lectors and the Commitment to Proper Liturgical Service” was held last May 5-6, 2012 at the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary Auditorium.

303 lay faithful attended and participated in the said Formation Program. Rev. Fr. Glenn Ruiz, Director of the Commission on Liturgy, started the series of talks given by discussing the Lectorate Ministry as a Liturgical Ministry of the Church. In addition, he also went into detail about the kind of spirituality that a lector must possess.

126 complete seminar for new Eucharistic ministers

A total of 126 men attended the Seminar-Workshop for the new Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion last May 12-13, 2012. Entitled “The Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and the Commitment to Proper Liturgical Service,” the said Formation Program was held at the auditorium of the Holy Rosary Minor Seminary.

Four lectures were given over the course of two days. Rev. Fr. Glenn Ruiz, Director of the Commission on Liturgy, discussed not only the role of an Extraordinary Minister in the Liturgical Ministry of the Church but also the eucharistic spirituality that he must embody.

Diarrhea outbreak declared in CamSur town

MANILA, Philippines – A diarrhea outbreak has been declared in the town of Nabua, Camarines Sur after the number of diarrhea cases reached 200.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) said 2 people have died from the illness, which has affected 11 villages in Nabua.

Deep wells and water pumps in the area have been chlorinated to ensure that the water supply is free from contamination.

Health officials continue to remind residents to boil drinking water and avoid eating street food.

Ice sold in stores should also be washed with clean water.

Hope it will be the official logo of this annual event. If I'm not mistaken, the landmark building at the back of the Quince Martires found in the logo is the City Hall.

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — Tomas Martinez of One Tarlac sustained his daring attack in the last 10 kilometers to rule the opening leg of the LBC Ronda Pilipinas in runaway fashion here.

Bucking a mild stomach trouble that bothered him at the start of the race, Martinez outdistanced his three fellow breakaway rivals to win the 183-kilometer race in 4:24.13. The stage started and ended at the heart of this bustling city – named after his great “kababayan” Gen. Paulino Santos.
Rindole came in second at 4:50.59 followed by Benosa (4:51.02). Merculio Ramos and Joseph Millanes clocked identical times of 4:52.20. Rey Martin followed suit with 4:52.21 while Reinhard Gorantes and Nicardo Guanzon checked in similar times of 4:52.22.

For his feat, Martinez won P50,000 while Rindole got P25,000, and Benosa, a Bicolano riding for Philippine Army/RC Cola, pocketed P15,000. Their prizes were awarded by Mayor Darlene Antonino Custodio.

I heard the theme for this year's Kaogma is Good Governance. So they're going to do caravans throughout CamSur to conduct medical missions, etc. Maybe they're going to use this opportunity to campaign for the plebiscite and the upcoming midterm polls.

Filinvest plans to sink in P25B in power projects

MANILA, Philippines—Filinvest Development Corp. (FDC) plans to invest roughly P25 billion this year to jumpstart the construction of new power plants with a combined generation capacity of 200 megawatts.

Apart from these “green field” projects that will start from scratch, FDC is keen on some of the “brown field,” or already existing power assets slated for privatization, particularly Unified Leyte Geothermal (640 MW), Caliraya-Botocan-Kalayaan hydropower facilities (728-MW), Malaya thermal power plant (650-MW) and Casecnan power project (140-MW), top officials said.
FDC Utilities president Jesus Alcordo said his unit was targeting to sign up 200 MW in additional power-generation capacity this year. The unit has prospective projects in Camarines Sur, Davao, Cebu, Negros and other parts of Mindanao. At the same time, Alcordo said the group would look at power-generation assets to be bid out by the government.

FDC To Start Power Investments

MANILA, Philippines --- Filinvest Development Corporation (FDC), the investment arm of the Gotianun family, is aiming to invest in the acquisition or construction of power plants with a total generating capacity of 1,000 megawatts in five years.

In an interview after the firm’s annual stockholders’ meeting, FDC chairman Jonathan Gotianun said they are looking at an initial investment of P25 billion to put up 200MW of generating capacity.

FDC already has power supply contracts in Camarines Sur, Davao and Cebu and is now looking at Negros and some more in Mindanao. Gotianun explained that biomass plants do not have to be near sugar mills since existing technology will also allow them to use other agricultural waste and fibers.

Ang Protégé Season 2 ay open to all male and female Filipinos, 13 to 21 years old, with a unique and striking personality, a compelling story to tell, and immense likeability factor. That's right. Just look at tripadvisor's #2 and #3. These two are small hotels but they have better reviews than those big hotels.

^^Travelers can give the testaments about the quality service as they have the first hand experience. May it be favorable or not (we cannot please everyone), what is important is that the hotel administration has to address negative concerns for the better service so as travelers will keep coming back. :okay:
