Filinvest shelves LNG project for P25-B coal-biomass power plant

MANILA, Philippines - Filinvest Development Corp. (FDC) is putting aside its plan to build liquefied-natural gas (LNG) power plants with a capacity of 1,650 megawatts (MW), and is instead pursuing putting up power plants running on clean coal and biomass with a lower capacity in the meantime as it waits for the government’s master plan on LNG.

“We are in the meantime, not concentrating on LNG,” FDC utilities president Jesus Alcordo told reporters following FDC’s stockholders meetng yesterday.

He said that the locations being eyed for the power plants are Camarines Sur, Davao, Cebu, Negros as well as Mindanao.

This power plant will not only generate electricity but also jobs for CamSur. :banana::banana::banana:

Maybe the P25 B biomass power plant will be distributed to those places mentioned.

FDC: Harnessing Energy for Community Development

Filinvest Development Corporation (FDC), through its newest subsidiary, FDC Utilities, Inc. (FDCUI), is progressively re-entering the power generation market and joining the water distribution and treatment market in 2012.

Since its incorporation in December 2009, FDCUI has been building its portfolio of clients for power generation and water distribution services in key growth areas in the country. FDCUI signed an Electric Power Purchase Agreement with Camarines Sur II Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CASURECO II) for a total of 40 megawatts (net of 32 MW) over a 25-year period. In addition, the company is evaluating a potential water desalination facility to address the water requirements of a key business district in the Visayas.

Presently, FDCUI is pursuing multiple power generation projects in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao employing the latest in clean fuel technology with close to 40% of the total targeted capacity for the projects located in Mindanao. FDCUI is also in the process of evaluating a hydro power plant and mine mouth potential in Luzon. The company also plans to participate in the retail electricity market through its affiliate, FDC Retail Electricity Sales Corporation.

That's right. Just look at tripadvisor's #2 and #3. These two are small hotels but they have better reviews than those big hotels.

AFAIK, they will entirely demolished the existing museum and replace with this ultra-modern, chic looking museum :lol:

Its proximity to the river also has purpose, it serves as a docking area for the Pagoda ni Ina.

Hi Kiasog. We we're supposed to be Philadelphia this week. Dai kami nadagos. It was too late when we discovered that my daughters' passport was expiring in three months. One should have at least a passport valid for six months before travelling.

We just returned from Legazpi yesterday where we stayed while we renewed her passport.:)

What kind of Amaia will be here? There are three Amaias -- Scapes (subdivision-type), Steps (low-rise condominiums) and Skies (high-rise condominiums).

It looks like a really huge jump from the classical design to an uber modern one. I don't like it. Modern museum designs are home for the modern artifacts, not the old ones like Ina. Even if I don't believe in Her, I think She deserves a more dignified place to stay.

Hi Kiasog. We we're supposed to be Philadelphia this week. Dai kami nadagos. It was too late when we discovered that my daughters' passport was expiring in three months. One should have at least a passport valid for six months before travelling.

Camella Naga commences Bridge construction

Naga City –“Fulfillment of a promise”, this was Camella Naga General Manager Natanette Pardito stated in her opening remark during the groundbreaking of the much awaited proposed Camella Bridge last May 19. It was in December of last year when its soft launching was effected simultaneous with the blessing of the Camella Heights Site Sales Office. “The actual start of the construction has been moved earlier than scheduled following the visit of our President and CEO, Senator Manny Villar last month. He was pleased with how the development of our two communities (Camella Main and Camella Heigths) are going on so far, yet still he accounts the need to make it even swift. He finds it essential to start now than later so as not to miss its target opening this September in time for the annual Penafrancia Fiesta.”, Pardito added.

The Camella bridge which will approximately cost P35M – P40M has been a part of Camella Naga’s master plan since its real estate development operations started here in Naga City four years ago. And finally, this plan will soon come to materialize – the bridge will cross over the Yabo River which runs from Mt. Isarog down to the Bicol River and will ultimately adjoin the two Camella communities, the Camella Main and the Camella Heights.

Filinvest keen on power

A wholly-owned unit of Filinvest Development Corp. is still interested in building new power generation projects across the country.

Filinvest chairman Jonathan Gotianun said the company, through power unit FDC Utilities Inc., is looking at putting up at least 200 megawatts of combined clean coal and biomass power plants worth at least P25 billion.

He said the Filinvest was reviewing the design and location of the plants, including Cebu, Camarines Sur, Negros island and Davao City.

It looks like a really huge jump from the classical design to an uber modern one. I don't like it. Modern museum designs are home for the modern artifacts, not the old ones like Ina. Even if I don't believe in Her, I think She deserves a more dignified place to stay.

the design is very appealing but I have to agree with kevinb. Penafrancia compound just gives off a different kind of ambiance. The new design blends well though within the premises of the Basilica Minore.

Camarines Sur has new police director

NAGA CITY (May 26 2012) - Camarines Sur has a new officer in charge at the Provincial Police office in replacement of Senior Supt. Procopio G. Lipana who was at the helm of the Philippine National Police (PNP) office of the province for 11 months.

In an ceremony presided by Police Bicol Director, Chief Supt. Arne M. Delos Santos, Lipana turned over his command to the new director, Police Senior Supt. Ramon S. Ranara.

Lipana, who is credited for major infrastructure facelifts and repairs of the provincial police headquarters located in barangay Concepcion Grande in this city, said before the turn-over ceremonies that the incoming provincial chief shall be the one to see the transfer of the Police Provincial Office (PPO) to a 1.9-hectare site that was recently donated by Baao Mayor Melquiades “Mel” Gaite.

Lipana also said that the present site of the PPO shall be the new headquarter of the Naga City Police Office whose office at Barlin St. in downtown Naga City is now deemed too small.

I'm a fan of minimalist architecture but when it comes to museums, I prefer some classical touch in and around. Anyway, I hope this project will push through. It might just be one of the must-see places in the region in the future. In the meantime, keep our rich cultural and religious heritage afloat! :)

good to see you here, swing. good point. considering that the old penafrancia shrine is in the immediate vicinity and that many old structures in the city are of the Spanish colonial style following the "old look" is a good idea.

Camella Naga commences Bridge construction

The Camella bridge which will approximately cost P35M – P40M has been a part of Camella Naga’s master plan since its real estate development operations started here in Naga City four years ago. And finally, this plan will soon come to materialize – the bridge will cross over the Yabo River which runs from Mt. Isarog down to the Bicol River and will ultimately adjoin the two Camella communities, the Camella Main and the Camella Heights.

This will drastically lower power rates within Cam Sur and nearby towns. AFAIK, Cam Sur is also keen on wind energy, it was posted here that the scouted site of a multinational company is somewhere along the coast of San Jose. Rep. Mitos Magsaysay was interviewed over at GNN Naga 48 and gave her insights on our country's ballooning energy crisis. She mentioned that wind energy is not practical as the cost in purchasing and maintenance of the facility is costly. She even mentioned of a wind energy existing up north that during their visit only half of the wind facility is fully functioning due to poor wind pressure on the area thus limiting the output of energy to be processed and convert into energy.

On the part of the City, investing into waste-to-energy IMO is the best step of the City to entice more investors. The City already resolved the CASURECO issue and is now ready to make amends with its board despite of the fierce opposition from Sec. Attended a meeting with the Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce concerning the series of events for the upcoming Gayon Bicol and one of the notable endeavor of the group is the creation of the ITC and BPO council of the Bicol region.

These 2 BIG investments by Filinvest in Camarines Sur and CJ Global in Naga City will surely catapult local investments and entice investors.

DAR to expedite land distribution in Camarines Sur

LEGAZPI CITY, May 26 (PNA) -- Some 43,000 hectares of agricultural land in Camarines Sur are to distributed to thousands of farmer-beneficiaries under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program, a top official of the Dept. of Agrarian Reform in Bicol said Saturday.

Maria Tam, DAR regional director, said her agency will expedite the distribution of the identified areas as part of the land distribution program pushed by the Aquino government.

Tam said the scheme is pursuant to the department’s desire to provide an equal chance for farmer-beneficiaries to own the land they had been tilling for a long time.

‘Our Lady of Peñafrancia’ to visit parishes in Metro Manila, Tagaytay City

MANILA, May 27 (PIA) -- After its arrival in Manila two weeks ago, the pilgrim image of Bicolandia’s famed “Ina,” the Our Lady of Peñafrancia, is set to visit various parishes in Metro Manila, as well as Tagaytay City.

In a release by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), Ina is scheduled to visit parishes such as the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Cupang, Muntinlupa from May 24 to June 1; Jesus, Lord of the Divine Mercy Parish in Novaliches, Quezon City from June 2 to 10; Ina ng Lupang Pangako Parish in Payatas, Quezon City from June 10 to 13; Divine Mercy Parish in Sikatuna Village, Quezon City from June 13 to 15; and the San Pablo Theological Seminary in Tagaytay City from June 17 to 24.

Marilyn Flores from the "Three Million Rosaries for Ina Crusade" said Ina’s itinerary until August is not yet final pending the confirmation of inviting parishes and organizations.

“Ina will return to Naga City on September 2. Until then, any parish, group, or institution can invite her to visit,” Flores said.

BUHI, Camarines Sur (May 27, 2012) - Lake Buhi now attracts the attention of investors on water sports after the local government successfully revived the viability of the lake in a recent major clean up drive.

Over the weekend as the town celebrated its town fiesta, one potential investor showcased its line of water skiing gears and equipment, as local talents rode jet skis and tried their skills on wakeboards pulled by a speedboat.

An earlier water skiing exhibition was staged back in April 30 to test the Buhi waters for suitability to water sports.

Buhi town Mayor Rey Lacoste said a firm that is active in the transport industry is interested in offering water skiing facility to tourists at lake Buhi and likes to stake undetermined investment in millions.

it's about time Buhi resurrects and bounces back -- it has great potential, considering the number of beautiful natural spots in the area.

it has great-tasting (not mud-tasting!) tilapia in its lake :)
