Congratulations to the Daughters of Mary nuns for being granted pontifical status after waiting for many years.
THe DMs were founded in the 60s but they applied for this status in the recent years.

Naga Boy June 30th, 2012, 03:40 AM Passed by SM Cinemas at 7 AM on my way to the Endolab, all 4 theaters are showing just one movie- Spiderman.
By July 10, SM Cinema 4 Would be fully digitalized and Cinemas 1 an 2 would shortly follow in few weeks.
By the end of July, all four SM Cinemas are fully digital capable of showing 2D and 3D movies.
According to SM management, all SM Cinemas all over the Philippines would be all fully digitalized by the end of 2012.

MANILA, Philippines- Listed Global Estates Resorts Inc. (GERI) said on Thursday that its net income will likely hit P264 million by the end of 2012 given its positive performance for the first five months of the year.
“Coming from our success in 2011, I am pleased to report that reservations sales for the first five months of 2012 blossomed to P3 billion. We are confident that we are on track to meeting a net income of P264 million by the end of this year,” said Ferdinand Santos, GERI president, in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange. GERI is the integrated tourism arm of tycoon Andrew Tan.
Santos added that the icompany has completed 10 old projects with three others about to finish. The projects cover about 190 hectares in the areas of Baguio City, Bulacan, Batangas, Laguna and Naga City.
GERI also said it has already finished the development of a golf course in Forest Hills, Antipolo City and the rehabilitation of its golf course in Fairways and Bluewater in Boracay. It launched three of its major projects in Boracay Newcoast: Newcoast Village, Boutique Hotel District, and Shophouse District.

Yesterday Mom attended a seminar in Ateneo against mining. That geothermal plant was mentioned, i think the petition against it on it's way.

Camarines Sur Gov. LRay Villafuerte admits that he once got in touch with Divine, Sarah Geronimo’s mother, to ask permission for his son Miguel to meet the Pop Princess.
Miguel sent Sarah some flowers and a cake even if the meeting never materialized because of their busy schedules.
The governor and his good-looking US-educated son made this admission during an interview with Kris Aquino when the TV host visited Camsur Watersports Complex (CWC).
Miguel plans to run for governor of the province while LRay reveals that he will most probably run for Congress.
Miguel tells Kris that he admires Sarah but somehow, their busy schedules have not given them the chance to meet personally.

The Luis G. Dato Medallion to be unveiled in 5 days in the Baao town Plaza on a memorial honoring LGD The Plaque will read:
Luis Guevara Dato
1906-1985
"Luis G. Dato was born in Baao on July 4,1906 and attained notable distinction in Philippine Literary History with his poems in English.
He wrote for and edited various Bikol newspapers and was actively involved in local cultural groups and wrote monographs and lexical works espousing the Bikol language
He served his town as mayor twice and pioneered seminal studies on Baao family genealogy, local history, culture and archeological heritage.
His influence as literary artist, scholar and teacher remains to this day.
This memorial erected by the Baao LGU led by Mayor Mel I. Gaite in partnership with the Burikbutikan Artists Collective Inc. in honor of a native son may serve as inspiration to future generations.
Dedicated July 4, 2012"

He served his town as mayor twice and pioneered seminal studies on Baao family genealogy, local history, culture and archeological heritage.
His influence as literary artist, scholar and teacher remains to this day.
This memorial erected by the Baao LGU led by Mayor Mel I. Gaite in partnership with the Burikbutikan Artists Collective Inc. in honor of a native son may serve as inspiration to future generations.

MANILA, Philippines—At least six domestic flights were cancelled Tuesday morning due to bad weather.
According to the media affairs division of the Manila International Airport Authority, as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, four Cebu Pacific flights to and from Naga and Busuanga were called off.
Also cancelled were two Airphil flights to and from Naga.

Citing bad weather conditions, air carrier Cebu Pacific canceled at least four flights between Manila and destinations in the Bicol Region and Palawan.
In a post on its Twitter account, Cebu Pacific said the affected flights included:
5J-521 and 5J-522: Manila to Naga and back
5J-529 and 5J-530: Manila to Busuanga and back
"Affected passengers will be accommodated on the next available flights. You may also rebook within 30 days of cancellation without penalties," Cebu Pacific said.
It also asked passengers for their understanding, saying it prioritizes their safety.
"We always place top priority in your safety; thank you for your understanding!" it said.
Heavy rain had fallen on parts of Southern Luzon, with the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration saying it was due to a low-pressure area.
PAGASA said the LPA, which passed through Southern Luzon early Tuesday, may become a cyclone once it reaches the West Philippine Sea. — RSJ, GMA News

MANILA, Philippines – Cebu Pacific and AirPhil Express on Tuesday cancelled some of its domestic flights due to bad weather.
In its official Twitter account, Cebu Pacific said the following flights were cancelled:
5J 521 – Manila-Naga
5J 522 – Naga – Manila
5J 529 – Manila – Busuanga
5J 530 – Busuanga – Manila
AirPhil Express, meanwhile, cancelled flights 2P 265 and 2P 266 (Manila-Naga-Manila).
PAGASA, in its latest weather bulletin issued at 5 a.m., said the rains experienced in Metro Manila and parts of
Luzon were brought by a low pressure area (LPA) spotted 30 kilometers north of Ambulong, Batangas as of 2 a.m.
It said southern and central Luzon including Metro Manila will still experience rains from this weather system today.
The LPA was moving slowly in a northwest direction. It is expected to be over the West Philippine Sea by Wednesday where it will eventually dissipate.
PAGASA warned residents living in low-lying areas and along mountain slopes to be alert for possible occurrence of flashfloods and landslides.

Since the rainy season started, I have been stuck in traffic because of flash floods a couple of times. Each time was not a pleasant experience but I am still grateful because my cab did not conk out and I got to my destination safe and dry. The tricycle drivers in the neighborhood have taken to wearing rain boots in anticipation of the floods. I try to avoid setting appointments in areas where I have to pass places prone to flooding. Recently, that has meant everywhere outside the subdivision where I live. The roads surrounding it get flooded after a few minutes of heavy rain.
For example, we all know (or I hope that we all know) that protecting watersheds is essential for protecting our water supply. As part of setting up a PES system, a willingness to pay survey is conducted and the users are asked how much they would be willing to pay to protect their water supply. Several speakers said that the survey respondents were agreeable to paying extra for the protection of their water supply. In Naga City, Camarines Sur, for instance, the household respondents said that they were willing to shell out an extra one peso per cubic meter of water to recharge the watershed.

National beauty contests may want to look at the recent Miss Iriga City pageant which, despite breaking conventions, successfully mounted an entertaining production.
The pageant did not have a swimsuit competition—which is an eagerly awaited segment in most beauty contests.
An insider told the Inquirer that since Iriga Mayor Madelaine Alfelor-Gazmen took office, the segment has been scrapped from the pageant.
The source said Gazmen wanted to veer away from physical attributes as a major factor in winning beauty pageants and focus instead on the contestants’ inner strengths. The move also made it easier for the local government to attract aspirants who are not only educated but competitive as well.
Angel May Villafuerte—who bears a striking resemblance to 2011 Miss Universe third runner-up Shamcey Supsup—was crowned 2012 Miss Rinconada in the Miss Iriga City competition held in the city’s coliseum recently.
Miss Rinconada is a title awarded to a candidate residing outside Iriga City but still within the fifth district of the province of Camarines Sur. Villafuerte hails from the town of Baao.
Villafuerte also showed her sense of spirituality—a trait which is likewise associated with Suspsup.
Asked to expound on the Irigueño’s spirituality, as symbolized by the city’s Emerald Grotto, Villafuerte replied: “Irigueños always put God first in everything they do. Because with God, everything is possible … God is a God of possibilities.”
The city’s famous landmarks, tourist attractions and indicators of progress were also integrated in the question-and-answer segment.
One of the judges said Villafuerte ranked first after tallying the scores of the panel. But because she is not eligible for the main title, she was proclaimed Miss Rinconada. Her crown came with a P110,000 cash prize.
The main title of Miss Iriga City went to Maria Lina Prongoso, who took home P120,000. Meryl Angeline King from Daet, Camarines Sur, won P100,000 for the third title, Miss Bicol Tourism.
The pageant also did away with staging a very long production, which was usually the practice in the provinces.
“Pilipinas Got Talent” finalist El Gamma Penumbra gave a spectacular performance, accompanied by the song “Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas.”
ABS-CBN star Luis Manzano was impressive as the evening’s host, trading banters with the crowd and the candidates.
The pageant also served as a crash course on getting to know Iriga City’s famous residents, including the country’s Superstar Nora Aunor, former Sen. Eddie Ilarde, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima and the late Budget Secretary Emilia Boncodin.
All these elements made the 2012 Miss Iriga City pageant a showcase of Bicol’s beauty.

Tired of the usual indoor and outdoor sports in the Metropolis? If yes, then travel 8-10 hours by land or one hour by air to south of Luzon where a wakeboarding paradise can be found.
The CamSur Watersports Complex put Naga City in the world map and became one of the country’s top tourist destinations even hosting big international events such as the WWA Wake Park Championships and Ironman triathlon among others.
“It was actually the son of (Camarines Sur) Gov. LRayVillafuerte who conceived of the idea of putting up the complex as he is a wakeboarder himself,” Provincial Administrator FerminMabulo told philstar.com referring to MigzVillafuerte, the country’s top wakeboarder recognized by the Philippine Waterski and Wakeboard Federation.
The sprawling six-hectare complex is the home of the first world-class watersports facilities not only in the Philippines but in whole Asia. Complete with resort-type amenities and boasting of a six-point cable ski system for wakeboarding, wakeskating and waterskiingaside from other extreme and watersports facilities, the whole complex is a virtual playground.
Philstar.com recently visited the complex to learn the sport of wakeboarding.
Winch Park (where beginners take the first crack at wakeboarding) supervisor Bart Rellama taught us the ropes of wakeboarding and here are the three basic things you need to know before plunging to this sport.
1. Float on your back
Rellama said the basic start for first-time wakeboarders is to float on your back. Once you master this technique, you can try the jump and sliding start (which we also tried doing but ended up plunging into the water than standing up on the wakeboard).In this basic technique, the board should be perpendicular to the rope with your arms either side of your front knee. Once ready, you’re now ready to be pulled by the rope.
2. Toes up
As you are pulled slowly forward, put your toes up and just let the pressure against the board allow you to get into the proper starting position. Let the pressure on the board push your knees into your chest, then put your weight into your front foot (your strong foot)to direct the board. Slightly bend in a crouching position until your stance is stable then slowly stand up.
3. The more pull, the more you will fall
One of the basic tenets taught by Rellama in wakeboarding is that do not pull the ropes back. The more you pull the ropes, the more you will lean back and fall off the board. Just let the ropes pull you and focus on your stance. Once mastered, you can now jump to the next level and learn the tricks such as the jumpstart, switch stance among others and take your act to the Lake where the longer cable ski system and ramps of different heights await you.
Wakeboarding develops your reflexes and mental focus to stand up on the board against the speed of the ropes. It is hard at first but never give up. If you feel like giving up then you don’t need to go that far to draw an inspiration. Just imagine how Camarines Sur was able to get up on its feet from being one of the worst typhoon-hit areas in the country to become one of the top tourists destinations.

MANILA, Philippines – Several villages in the town of Bombon, Camarines Sur were submerged in floods on Tuesday following non-stop rains since Monday night.
According to the province’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, floods swept through barangays San Roque, San Jose, San Isidro, Sto. Domingo, Pagao and San Antonio.
Authorities said worst-hit by the floods is Barangay San Roque, where a creek overflowed.
Some residents used sandbags to try to prevent floodwaters from entering their homes while others decided to evacuate.
Several residents, meanwhile, called on the government to address a concern regarding logs swept down river that have been gathering at a bridge.
Classes were cancelled in the towns of Pamplona and Magarao but a teacher said floods quickly subsided in their area and its possible classes will resume on Wednesday.
In Naga City, the rains caused knee-high floods in Barangay Caluag.
The Naga airport had to cancel flights due to the bad weather.

This 2nd Prize winner of FIBA 80 Years Anniversary photo contest was taken in Araneta last July 13, 2009 PBA 34th Season Commissioners Cup FINALS Game #5 between Ginebra vs San Miguel. On the photo is long time SMB Ballboy Edwin Cortez. While picking up all the ball(s) I was able to snap a shot on him coz I was amaze on how he handles all that balls.
