St. Peter of Cebu. Sa facade ini kan Church sa ADNU?
yup facade of the ateneo university church.
btw soon to be St Pedro is "of Cebu" insofar as this term refers to the then-diocese (of Cebu) which, in the young martyr's time, covered the whole of the Visayas and Mindanao and even parts of Guam. Better to say "of the Visayas" (although some are asking that he be officially named "of Cebu") because the available documents indeed mention only "Visayan youth" and not the exact place of origin. there is then no solid evidence to prove his hometown.
that is why there are several places that claim to be his possible hometown aside from Cebu: Bohol, Iloilo and Leyte. :)

Just got overwhelmed with Sir Bob info that another CBD1 structure would soon be demolished to pave way for a commercial building. CBD1 is having a good makeover not only on buildings but as well as on roads, drainages, parking areas and even on dangling electrical wirings. A year from now, these towering structures will soon compete head-to-head with upcoming new structures, namely; BDO Regional Office, Puregold Centro, Eurotel and the refurbished Shoppers Mall situated side-by-side along the busy strip of General Luna. The construction of the Centro Arc put an emphasis on the vibrant economy of the City. It heralds a bustling metropolis ready to compete and open its arms to investors.
The resurgence of CBD1 as the premier and oldest business address in the City clearly shows the resilient local governance of our City officials in protecting the welfare of our SME's.

The big old wooden building has no historical value in the heart of CBD I, Actually it is an eyesore to most. :) But it's better to wait for the formal closure, I'm also excited the kind of architectural design, hoping a contemporary design .

Morning sir Bob!
You are referring to the old UNC building? during my last visit in UNC, I saw that it is now fenced. Ma'am Jo can also verify it :)
AFAIK, the possibility of demolishing and leasing it to private companies surfaced 2 years ago. The plan is to construct stalls and a multi-level parking area.

Kim Bol Jon July 21st, 2012, 05:16 AM PNR, LGUs sign MOA to prevent more deaths
by Sonny Sales
Saturday, July 21, 2012
NAGA CITY -- The Philippine National Railways (PNR) has started signing Memorandum of Agreements (MOAs) with municipal, city and local government units in Southern Luzon and greater Manila area to manage the more than 100 official railroad crossings.
PNR General Manager Junio Ragragio bared at a media conference here the other day that MOAs have been concluded with Naga and Iriga cities where a recent mishap had claimed the lives of five residents in Bgy. San Isidro, Iriga City last June 22.
The MOA provides the installation of signages, barriers and even battery-operated blinkers while the LGUs will designate personnel to man the barriers at the railroad crossings during passage of train trips and work-trains.

The City Government of Naga, through Mayor John G. Bongat, City Treasurer Helen T. Rosales and City Assessor Ramon R. Albeus, has been honored with a Certificate of Recognition for attaining the highest local revenue per capita among cities in Bicol for the year 2010.
This also means that Naga City achieved the lowest dependence on the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) among all cities in Bicol by collecting P323.17 million for calendar year 2010 against an average annual income of P366.972 million.

Doc posted schedule of new SM malls from 2012-2015 and Legazpi was not included there. To have SM Legazpi is one of the conditions for expanding SM Naga. However, if the city government was able to entice the SM group to expand prior to SM Legazpi then I hope it will happen soon. SM Naga is already congested, IMO.

owing, i believe, to its large population (which is easily the largest among Bikol's national high schools), Cam High is able to offer varied programs, among them its own Science-oriented program within the compound.
the science hs students have smaller class sizes and are distinguished by a different uniform. the boys wear yellow, i think.

July 20, 2012
KUALA LUMPUR, July 20 (Bernama) -- Tourist spots and the rich cultural heritage of the Philippines have been recognised as assets to attract more Malaysians to visit the country.
Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia J. Eduardo Malaya said the country was eager to promote the Philippines among Malaysian travelers thus boosting the number of Malaysian tourist arrivals.
He said some 91,752 Malaysian tourists visited the Philippines last year, while 362,000 Filipinos visited Malaysia during the same period.
Malaya said with 7,107 islands, the Philippines offered a wide array of tourism products for foreign tourists ranging from natural attractions, culture, adventure and shopping.
"The list of sights to see is endless. The world-famous white-sand beaches of Boracay, Palawan and the Caramoan peninsula, world-class surfing in Siargo, the unique indigenous people's culture of Sagada and the Mountain Provinces.
"The breath-taking sights of Mayon and Taal Volcanoes, the seafood delights of Davao and world class shopping havens of Manila and Cebu and also the warmth and hospitality of Filipinos," he said.

this is good news! Barlin deserves a much better and bigger monument, considering his significant role in the history of the Bikol and Philippine Church.
too bad his bones remain undiscovered today. he died and was buried in Rome.

oragon.com July 21st, 2012, 09:18 AM To capture the real essence of the City's project to convert the Barlin street into a Vigan-like they should start by adding amenities that would make the place worth-visiting. IMO, they should start by improving the old GSIS building. Why not convert building into a City-owned Heritage Building with the following amenities; library at the 4th floor, museum at the 3rd or a museum entirely dedicated to Bishop Jorge Barlin, government offices for the Culture and Arts of the City at the 2nd and finally, the ground floor can be utilized for coffee shops, bicolano serving restos and souvenir stalls.

A few weeks ago, a number of Japanese helmets were unearthed though not in Barlin still adds to the rich history of the street. The possibility of improving the satellite market in Barlin is still an opportunity for the City, the best is to convert it into a mercato or possibly a night market. The street is filled with pre-war houses and the rich and famous of the City.
The old clock can be installed again which somehow resemble the Big Ben clock in London, a karetela ride, etc..etc...indeed, Barlin street has a lot to offer.
garzland July 21st, 2012, 09:54 AM ^^That's a good idea, pres. All of those are very feasible and I guess it would just follow after the construction of the new Barlin monument as the whole Barlin area is included as part of the heritage area of Naga.

Kim Bol Jon July 21st, 2012, 11:17 AM Just to set the record straight. :)
Despite jitters in the global economy, the number of registered enterprises in the city increased by 4%, from 907 in 2010 to 944 in 2011. New constructions improved by 12.6%, from 95 to 107 during the periods mentioned. The city is looking at 2012 to be an even better year, as indicated by the fact that during the first semester of this year alone, the city had already attained 86% of total investments relative to the 2011 level. The mayor sees the coming of new big-ticket investments, such as the setting up of GMA TV Network regional headquarters for Bicol, a solar panel plant rising in Barangay Pacol, and several new hotels sprouting in strategic corners of the city. Tourist arrivals in the city, combined with Camarines Sur, as reported by DOT increased by 31.7%, from 1.9M in 2010 to 2.5M in 2011.

My conversion of one of the tenant of E-Mall. What I learned, is that the OLD GSIS Building is not owned by the local Govt. Before there was a plan to put up an escalator but it seems the design is not that possible. It is for sale by the owner. Just in-case Hotel or BPO would be nice
@ Kim, Even-though it is old, It is not a condemned building, it is rented by a school, many businesses and law offices.
It is one of the unique Frank Lloyd Wright building design in Bicol region. Historically it was the first building of GSIS in Bicol.

The old clock can be installed again which somehow resemble the Big Ben clock in London, a karetela ride, etc..etc...indeed, Barlin street has a lot to offer.
good ideas for Barlin. it's a very promising area indeed - business establishments including the satellite market and the Barlin Monument which serves as a kind of starting point for a walk to the Cathedral.
Bishop Barlin's statue actually looks at the Cathedral -- which was once his seat when he was Bishop of Caceres!

It was a great honor for Bicolanos as well as for the Archdiocese of Caceres to have a first Filipino bishop ( colored person) in the history of church, specially in the time of the Spanish period. I don't know if there was already a colored bishop in the new world that time.

Hello friends! Everyone's invited to our stint at the Ayala Museum Design Talks.
This will be a fun day of two-way inspiration and education for us all.
Past DesignTalk torchbearers include some of the creative industry's heavyweights:
Arch ED CALMA, int'l graphic designer & Parson's educator LUCILLE TENAZAS, KENNETH COBONPUE, INKSURGE, EWS, director & Broadway set designer LOY ARCENAS, Mercedes-Benz designer WINIFREDO CAMACHO, FLORIAN THEUER, our very own Jason Magbanua
and more...
IMMENSE PRESSURE. Gulp. No sweat.
To sweeten the deal, we'll be raffling away Olympus cameras, discounted Visual Supply Co (VSCO Film) products/vouchers, QUIRKS merchandise & mangoRED tees.
We're also holding a mini gallery of past & present works (published & unpublished) at the museum's 3rd level.

I'm just wondering if they still have the plans/blueprints of the structures they plan to rebuild along barlin. Re-building the old structures would be a very tedious task but it's certainly better than inventing or merely copying what's on vigan.
these are some of the remaining colonial walls along the city which could be used to re-design the bland/whitewashed walls of the usi, parochial and arzobispado.
