So three new restaurants will soon open at SM City Naga:

Maki Yaki is still available at Avenue Square.

Bicol Regional Nutrition Council V Declares Iriga City Outstanding

The Department of Health (DOH) National Nutrition Council Region V cited Iriga City as its Outstanding City in the Bicol Region for its efficient and effective implementation of nutrition programs for its constituents.

In addition to this milestone, Barangay Nutrition Scholar (BNS) Rosario C. Llagas of Barangay La Trinidad of this city, was also placed 1st runner-up in the 2011 Search for Outstanding BNS, while her barangay was recognized as one of 11 outstanding barangays in implementing Nutrition Programs in their locality.

Mayor Madelaine Alfelor-Gazmen and Iriga City Nutrition Action Officer Jeannie P. Bolivar will formally receive the awards in a ceremony dubbed “Salud Bicolnon Award” on July 31, 2012 at the Oriental Hotel in Legazpi City. The occasion, themed “Salud Bicolnon, Salud Para Sa Kagabsan”, will have as its guest of honor DOH Secretary Enrique T. Ona.

It had earlier climbed to the top to become a classic example of a small entrepreneur which started by learning many things every step of the way.

Completion of 1st Phase of Covered Courts

We give thanks to the Lord for allowing us to complete the roofing of the covered courts started by Fr. Rolly Bonoan in 1998. This newly completed facility will now allow the university community to hold major events without having to worry too much about space and inclement weather.

The next phase will try to provide a sturdy back wall, louvers, flexible stage, fencing and a public address system. But this will have to wait until we can generate enough savings and/or generous donation from benefactors. So if you know of any generous souls wanting to help us, direct them to my office! MANILA, Philippines - Two military officers have been named to key positions in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) with the retirement of two generals, who are members of the controversial Philippine Military Academy (PMA) class ’78.

Brig. Gen. Benito de Leon was named acting commandant of the AFP Command and General Staff College (CGSC), succeeding Rear Adm. Victor Martir, who retired from the service on Tuesday.

On the other hand, Brig. Gen. Aurelio Baladad was designated acting commander of the 9th Infantry Division based in Camarines Sur. He succeeded Maj. Gen. Josue Gaverza, who bows out of service on Wednesday.

Martir and Gaverza are graduates of PMA class ’78, which adopted former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as honorary member.

my best hopes for UNC, too. my mom is an alumna at the college of education. she was asked to teach full-time in UNC high school while she was doing her last sem of teaching internship. :)

If the Police station will be transfer in Concepcion Grande. I believe there is a possibility to make the are a tourist activity. Barlin Monument, Cuartel de la Guardia Civil and the historic GSIS building. Only the Business group, Local Government as well as the Church can work together to achieve the goal

I don't think there is any portion of the edifice. In-case there is a plan for a Cuartel de la Guardia Civil. that would mean working with our historians to trace at least the design of the Cuartel. I believe click na click iyan mag laag ning Caurtel of the Guardia Civil right at the heart of Barlin St.

The Naga City Police Station on Barlin Street was the site of the Cuartel General of the Guardia Civil in Camarines that was constructed in 1870, but was razed by fire caused by faulty electrical wiring.

Centro Naga Business Club

Happy to announce that J. Barlin street will soon be Naga's Heritage walk. It was once the main street of Naga City and that it extends to General Luna. Due to road constructions and changes, it now forks into P. Burgos and General Luna. The PNP headquarters used to be the Cuartel of the Guardia Civil.

Another historical edifice is the old provincial jail at the Penafrancia Avenue. It was later used as the post office.

was in BCD about 2 wks ago and stayed in mandalagan. brought home chocolate cake from calea (saw at least 15 boxes of this treasure at boarding time), bingka and buko pie from El Ideal and very good pili pie from Bob's (a gift from the owners). :)

AdNU Hosts Caceres Clergy Assembly

The Ateneo de Naga University once again hosted the monthly Caceres Clergy Assembly this July in honor of the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus. The assembly was attended by one hundred seventy-seven (177) priests in the Archdiocese of Caceres. The event started with a holy hour at the University Church which was presided by Fr. Sammy Dizon SJ. A luncheon and raffle followed at the Arrupe Convention Center.

Yes. His Dad, Johnson Dee used to be a Unilab medical representative until they moved to Manila.

His grandapa still lives in Jardin Real de Naga and I think that is where they stay whenever they are in Naga.

FOR Smart Communications Inc., the rains reinforce the need to pursue reforestation efforts not only to make the earth greener but also to help protect low-lying areas from severe flooding.

Last July, Smart jump-started this year’s tree-planting season at the Marikina Watershed with some 1,250 seedlings planted with the help of its employees. As part of the initiatives under its Kabalikat sa Kalikasan program, the telco has been encouraging its employees to take part in maintaining, preserving and rehabilitating the country’s forests, come rain or shine, in partnership with various institutions, local government units, communities and other stakeholders.

Planting sites include the Ipo Dam and Marikina watersheds, Calatagan, Subic, Mt. Banahaw, Puerto Princesa and Cagsao in Camarines Sur for Luzon; Cebu, Lapu-Lapu, Negros Oriental and Occidental, Iloilo, Guimaras and Bohol for Visayas; and Misamis Oriental, Surigao, Zamboanga, Sarangani, Digos, Davao City, and Tawi-Tawi in Mindanao.

MANILA, Philippines - Summer bid us farewell two typhoons and several weather disturbances ago, but traveling did not leave with it.

While most people would prefer to stay home and sleep, travelers won’t let the rain dampen their spirits. They will still choose to wander and discover the beauty that the Philippines has to offer, whether in sunny or stormy weather.

Kill the boredom that the rainy season brings. Here are suggested activities that one can do even on a rainy day:


1. White water rafting / kayaking

Water sports enthusiasts love the rainy season. It’s when the rapids are stronger and water levels are high.

Lakwatsero’s Angel Juarez recommends white water kayaking in the raging Tibiao River in Antique. If you want to experience the wild river with a group, Kara Santos of Travel Up suggests braving the rapids of Chico River in Kalinga.


2. Surfing

The Southwest Monsoon — locally known as the Habagat season (June-September) — blends perfectly with the waves.

Siargao, known as the surfing capital of the Philippines, is best experienced during Habagat.

“It is a fun and rewarding experience to brave the waters with bigger waves,” says Pinoy Adventurista.

Another preferred surfing spot is Baler in Aurora. Philippine Travelogue’s Brenna Bustamante says that she adjusts her activities according to the weather condition.

“Ever since I started surfing in Baler while raining, I came to love it. The rain adds to the drama and the thrill of riding the waves,” she says.

3. Wakeboarding / kneeboarding

If you need a dose of adrenaline rush, head to Camarines Sur and try wakeboarding or kneeboarding at the Camsur Watersports Complex.

Doi Domasian of The Travelling Feet recalls how the bad weather welcomed them in June but that didn’t stop them from enjoying their trip.

“We had a marvelous time kneeboarding and playing at the inflatables in the waterpark of the Camsur Watersports Complex. It’s a must-visit rain or shine,” says Domasian.


4. Hiking under the rain

Climbing mountains during the rainy season may be considered dangerous, but Jovial Wanderer and mountaineer Christine Fernandez chooses to continue conquering heights except when there’s a typhoon or threat of flash flood.

“I don’t mind hiking under the rain. One of my favorites is the Mt. Makiling Traverse or MakTrav. The trail begins in Sto. Tomas, Batangas, and ends in UP Los Banos, Laguna. A MakTrav experience isn’t complete without surviving the thick mud,” says Fernandez.


5. Reflecting, relaxing and writing by the beach

Who says that going to the beach is not fun during the rainy season? James Betia of Journeying James sees it differently.

“It’s better to go during the rainy season because you have the beach for yourself. After all, most Filipinos don’t want a tan, they want to get wet,” says Betia, who seeks solitude in the beaches of Palawan.

This was echoed by Darwin Cayetano of Treasure Tracker who loves to sit by the shore of Patar Beach in Bolinao, Pangasinan.

“I just love hearing the strong waves hitting the shore. It’s also fun playing under the rain; it reminds me of my childhood days — simple and carefree,” says Cayetano.

Melody Co of Guiltless Getaways visits Boracay every August when hotel and airfare rates are cheaper.

“The beachfront is not crowded. There is no sun to burn you and the winds are perfect for Paraw sailing,” she says.


6. Indoor wall-climbing

If you’re just around the metro and want to stretch your muscles without getting wet, try wall-climbing.

Kara Santos does indoor wall-climbing at Power-up, which has branches in Centro Atletico Cubao, Old Balara and R.O.X.


7. Visiting the museum

If you want to spend less but have a meaningful weekend trip, go to the museums and appreciate the greatest works of Filipino artists.

Pinay Traveller’s Pauline Mangilog-Saltarin visited the Vargas Museum of the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City one rainy day.

For an entrance fee of Php 20.00 (for UP alumni, students) or Php 30.00 (for non-UP visitors), you’ll have a visual feast of the masterpieces of Juan Luna, Felix Resurrecion and Fernando Amorsolo.

The Vargas Museum is open from 9am-5pm from Tuesday to Saturday.
