This is probably my ultimate favorite, Ginataang Laing with libas, kurakding, ground chicken, and plenty of chilis.

In Albay, Gulay na Natong is also prepared mixed with Santol (without the seeds of course).

We also have Tinutungan na Manok. This is actually dinuguan na manok cooked the Bicol way, i.e., with coconut milk. The basic difference is in the preparation wherein the grated coconut meat is first partly burned before the milk is squeezed. This is the reason why it is called "tinutungan." yes, bobbymay, there is a small graveyard fronting the ateneo de naga jesuit residence (ignatius house). it was established upon the death of fr mike rooney,sj, perhaps as a way of consoling everyone for his sudden death.

the saintly fr jack phelan is buried in sacred heart novitiate, novaliches, QC, about 8 mins from SM fairview. there is talk of possibly transferring the remains of deceased AdNU jesuits (those who were assigned in naga for a longer period) from novaliches to naga. nothing formal, though.

incidentally, yesterday's issue of the Phil Daily Inq featured the jesuit cemetery in novaliches and mentioned that yes, a few of jose rizal's jesuit teachers are buried there, including the one closest to him, francisco de paula sanchez,sj.

everyone is welcome to visit the cemetery anytime. you will also find there other AdNU assigned jesuits: bro sergio adriatico (the "Fifth Pillar" in whose honor the highest award at AdNU is names); former AdNU prexy Raul Bonoan who is like a second founder of AdNU; former college counselor Frank Dolan (whose theology classes always overflowed with students!); football coach Johnny Sanz (who said Sunday masses in the city jail and in the supermarket); Bikolano New Yorker Jim O'Brien who taught us to love and appreciate Bikol culture; counselor Fr Magtoto who drowned in lake buhi in the 60s, etc

i remember writing to Jim O'B when i was in high school. i wrote in english and he wrote me back in perfect suanoy Bikol! he did not use singkwenta; he used "limang polo"! this incident challenged me to take seriously our own culture and language :)

yan lang ta mabibisto kung gurano kahoben o kagurang ang nagbibisita sa sementeryo: sa bilang kang mga pading gadan na kamidbid hehehe..

may they rest in God's peace!

I just remember Fr. Dolan giving him gift a of Cuban Cigars from the states. He usually smokes cigars. We just hope the Society will consider transferring the remains of deceased AdNU jesuits those who were assigned in naga. ADENU Alumni's will be gald to have them here.

thanks sir bobbymay for sharing some wondrous ideas about the SSC family and your "buhay-buhay' hehehe....last Nov. 1 @ SM City Naga .... marhay na aldaw forumers

Hope to see you again. By the way, how's your meeting with Kevin?

Pang-sinabawan na gulay

ang tawag dito sa Nabua ay "og-og". Ginagataan din ito na parang langka. Sarap nito!

Masarap kasi itong pang-asim.

sigeng siram ang orolay ta; nakakagutom sana!

good to know there are a number of foodies among the forumers.

bikol is a place for affordable foodtrip. naga has many homegrown restos that compete well with big names in the fastfood sector- bigg's and geewan/ graceland are examples.

fish cove looks nice. hope someone can also post pics of GREEN EARTH cafe, a vegetarian place in villa sorabella. nice healthy food, very affordable.

Urolay kakanon talagang nakakagutom.

Iyan batwan looks like "catmon" sa Tinambac. Medyo maalsom pwede talagang pang-alsom sa luto. I am not sure though if there is still this fruit/tree over there or the young ones are ever aware of this citric fruit in that area.

Ining og-og, we call it there ogob. I really love it and like cooking it with crabs or shrimps in coco milk. There is another fruit very similar to ogob (og-og) called gumihan. It is seedy and the seeds are coated with sweet pulp. The seeds can be roasted for another perfect bicolano delicacy.

When I was still a student at UNC, I used to eat lunch at a kitchenette along Barlin fronting Rodson. I would usually order adobo chino and rice. Their adobo chino has hard boiled egg slices which is really yummy.

I miss all of these now

Imelda Papin with Melissa Manchester in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas’ Hotel Orleans has seen many music icons in its showroom – the likes of Engelbert Humperdinck, Neil Sedaka, Gladys Knight, Michael Bolton, Kenny G, Air Supply, Kenny Rogers, Paul Anka and Boys II Men, but for the past two years, it features the same star for its holiday special – the undisputed jukebox queen from the Philippines, Imelda Papin.

Yes! Just like Mary Poppins, the hotel management thinks that Imelda is “practically perfect in every way” as its headliner.

For the past 30 years in the entertainment scene, music aficionados are still in awe as to how Imelda piles success after success as a singer. More so these days, when she’s riding high on her newfound fame as the only Filipino, who made it real big in Vegas – the acclaimed entertainment capital of the world.

“I pray everyday – puro thank you, because it’s different in America. A lot of performers are dreaming to make it big there, pero ang hirap- hirap,” says Imelda.

“Since 1979, I’ve been holding concerts in the US but in 2006, parang nag-iba yung luck ko, parang na-recognize yung talent ko by the American audience. Yes, I was a hit among Pinoys but when it came to American audience in Vegas, there’s a lot of competition because they’ve seen the best.

“And then I met Oscar Parel, a fellow Filipino-American, who believes so much in my talent. He had no plan of producing shows pero sana naman daw may Filipino who will make it big there.”

Parel has become Imelda’s Svengali. Through the 618 International Entertainment, Inc., he launched a concert tour that was meant to reach Imelda’s fans in different parts of the US.

But something happened in Vegas.

“The managers of Hotel Orleans observed my first show,” she continues. Apparently, they liked what they saw.

“Nakakatuwa naman, parang di totoo, everytime na mag-show ako, putok. So, upon seeing that the American audience was responding to me, ginawa akong regular performer.”

On top of that, the management gave Imelda an all-out support by putting up huge billboards inside and around Vegas – a sight that many Filipinos take pride in.

Truth be told, Vegas won’t spend a penny on a billboard if the performer isn’t worth it. After all, each costs $10,000.

Well, Imelda has 11. There’s one near the airport, and many more in bus stations and along the Vegas strip.

“Marquee star ang tawag nila sa performers na ganoon eh,” she adds. “Sabi ko naman, ‘I worked hard for it.’ I always vow my head in prayer every time I have a blessing. ‘Ako lang ang Filipina singer na may billboard?’ Hindi ako ganon. I think, sa buhay ng tao kahit narating mo tagumpay, nagkaroon ka ng pera, yuko ka na lang.”

The secret is in reinvention. Imelda would still shed a tear, at a song or two, but her repertoire is now laced with Tina Turner‘s “Simply The Best” and Kiki Dee’s “I Got the Music in Me.”

“My singing style changes when I perform live,” she says. “In recording, siyempre easy listening yan. But when it’s a live performance, of course it should be bombastic.”

Her passionate performances led to doing concerts with international musicians like Peggi Blu, Oren Waters and Mariano Gonzales. Then came Melissa Manchester, the 1982 Grammy’s best female vocalist who popularized “Through the Eyes of Love,” “Don’t Cry Out Loud,” and “Midnight Blue.”

Two days prior to their three-day concerts last September, they were given a red carpet welcome by Hotel Orleans, with the crème de la crème of Nevada – US Senator Harry Reed, Governor Jim Gibson and Congresswoman Shelly Berkeley.

“Wow! Talagang Hollywood-style. It was like a dream,” describes Imelda of the experience.

Aside from concerts, Imelda has her own TV show, “Imelda Papin In America” aired every second Saturday of the month on LA 18, and a two-hour “Voice of the Heart Radio Show” on KLAV every Sunday.

She has also released a new CD, “Voice Of The Heart” which is being distributed in three countries – the US, Canada, and the Philippines. In it are her own versions of the well-loved ballad “Dance With My Father Again” and “Sugar, Sugar” – a duet with the song’s original singer Ron Dante.

“I’m a positive thinker pagdating sa career at sa family,” admits Imelda. “Yung paglaos is not in my vocabulary. In my heart, I know that I have contributed something in the music industry, and I have my own followers.”

Imelda is the founding President of Filipino-American Society of Entertainers. She says, “I want to give recognition to Filipino performers based in the US like Tita Bella Flores and Oscar Obligacion. Hinahanap pa namin yung iba. We will have our launching this November 15.”

She has also put up the Imelda A. Papin Foundation, which uses a portion of her concert and record proceeds to help her fellow Bicolanos.

“I don’t forget my roots. I have a soft spot for the needy.” This, she reveals, is the reason for the patented tears while singing. “I really feel the song. Naaalala ko kung paano ako lumaki, yung hirap ng buhay. Kaya bawat kanta, lalo ‘pag tungkol sa buhay ng tao, naluluha ako.

“My plan is to continue singing in the States. And then, I will comeback in our country and resume my political career. People say that I did well the last time I was in politics.” Papin served two terms as the first female vice governor for the province of Camarines Sur.

“With my experiences, I think I can contribute something good for our country. I’ve been all over the world, I‘ve met a lot of leaders, and I learned a lot of things that I can share to our people.

“Right now I’m enjoying my career. God gave it to me, so, I don’t want to waste it. But God willing, I’d like to continue serving our people.”

This vegetable, no, actually it is apparently an HERB, fascinated me from the moment I spotted a bunch of leaves in the Legazpi market. They reminded me of rigid hearts of romaine lettuce and the local name, lubi-lubi (Solanum Nigrum Linn.) was rather memorable. A very common herb that grows throughout the Philippines, the new leaves are edible, as are the fruit or seeds.

http://www.marketmanila.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/189.jpg

The mature leaves are kinda hard and thick, and I would never have guessed it would be classified as an herb (banana trees are humongous herbs, as well).

http://www.marketmanila.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/184.jpg

The fruit are kinda knobbly, gnarly balls, somewhat reminiscent of small coconuts, also known as lubi. So I am guessing that the name in Bicol or parts of the Visayas, lubi-lubi, is a reference to the teeny tiny coconut looking fruit.

http://www.marketmanila.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/185.jpg

It is the new sprouts or leaves that are tender enough to cook in a similar manner to other leafy greens, spinach, pechay, etc. They have a wonderful color and the patterns on the leaves are simply striking…

http://www.marketmanila.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/186.jpg

A common dish in and around Legazpi would be lubi-lubi sliced up, with bataw, malunggay and coconut milk, a vegetable stew of sorts… Geez, talk about nutritious and vitamin packed dishes!

http://www.marketmanila.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/187.jpg

Lubi-lubi in bundles for sale at the market.

Here cooked with dried fish and coconut milk with some siling labuyo. It tasted interesting, but after all these photos and attention, actually, I wasn’t too fond of it. Kinda tough and leafy. Maybe it’s an acquired taste and I need a few more exposures to this Bicolano staple…

Bicol has enough rice supply till 2010–NFA (http://businessmirror.com.ph/component/content/article/53-agri-commodities/18110-bicol-has-enough-rice-supply-till-2010nfa.html)

The National Food Authority (NFA) has assured Bicolanos of sufficient rice supply until January next year, allaying apprehensions that the present calamity situation in most of Luzon would bring about a shortage of the staple grain in the region.

Edgar Bentulan, the NFA regional director for Bicol, said over the weekend the agency maintains a rice-stock position of at least 1.7 million bags of rice ready for disposal in the next three months.

The NFA regional office and all its warehouses across the Bicol region, Bentulan said, also have buffer stocks that include the 1.150 million bags of imported rice and over 680,000 bags acquired through the agency’s rice-procurement program that buys a kilo of palay at P17.

“We were able to purchase 1,051 bags of palay from the local farmers under the palay procurement program during the year,” he said.

Purchased from Camarines Sur were 750,673 bags of palay, Bentulan said. The volume purchased showed a very significant growth in rice production that made Camarines Sur the No. 1 rice-producing province this year.

The province, a consistent surplus rice producer, stood out among the provinces of Bicol in terms of volume in palay production, the latest report of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS) said.

The entire region posted a 17.3-percent palay production growth rate compared with the first semester of last year, the highest among the rice-producing regions, according to the BAS report.

The Ilocos region ranked second with a 13.08-percent growth rate for the same period, followed by Central Luzon which registered a 9.23-percent net production growth.

The BAS report attributes the remarkable performance of Bicol to the use of hybrid palay seeds by most farmers and the additional use of inputs and better irrigation system, Jose Dayao, the regional executive director of the Department of Agriculture (DA), earlier said.

A hybrid-rice variety, also referred to as the F1, is the direct product of crossing two genetically different parents. In hybrids, the positive qualities of both parents are combined, resulting in a phenomenon called “hybrid vigor” or “heterosis” that results in better reproductive characteristics.

These factors result in higher yields than ordinary rice by 15 percent, and with proper management, farmers harvest up to 240 cavans per hectare per season or 12 tons per hectare per year, Dayao explained.

The entire Bicol region had a total of about 291,000 hectares of land devoted to rice that contributed almost a million metric tons of the staple food to the country’s overall production per year.

Most of these areas, however, are still using ordinary rice variety, and certainly, when the DA is able to expand the coverage of the hybrid varieties in the region, Dayao said, “we expect more production.”

From Albay, the NFA palay-buying program obtained 127,131 bags; 84,979 from Camarines Norte; 44,638 from Masbate; 40,638 from Sorsogon; and 3,971 from Catanduanes, Bentulan said.

In the per-province stock situation, Bentulan said, Albay has a stock position of 650,382 bags that can last up to 123 days; Camarines Sur with 227,351 good for 44 days; Sorsogon, 99,931 for 67 days; Camarines Norte, 92,722 for 69 days; Masbate, 50,174 for 36 days; and Catanduanes, some 30,412 good for 22 days.

He based the duration of the rice-stock situation on the daily consumption in Bicol pegged at 42,980 bags, to where the NFA contributes some 16,000 bags daily in its sale at the government-subsidized price of P18 per kilo for indigent families and P28 in the open market.

Allocation of imported rice for Bicol this year is about 2.6 million bags.

“We expect to import more next year since palay production is expected to go down until the end of this year following several typhoons that wrought havoc to our rice plantations in the region,” Bentulan said.

At the same time, the region needs to further increase its production even as it registered the highest growth rate in palay yield compared with other regions in the country during the first semester of this year, he added.

Camarines Norte jewellers bank on exhibit to boost sales (http://http://beta.bworldonline.com/main/content.php?id=850)

CAMARINES NORTE-based jewellers are looking to boost sales of gold baubles and promote their forging skills through a state-organized exhibit at the Ayala Museum.

Jewelry designs executed by 24 manufacturers in 18-karat gold will be on display this Nov. 4-12 in a bid to "present their efforts at jewelry-making in the highly competitive and exclusive realm of high fashion," the Trade department said in a statement yesterday. The event, dubbed "Bulawan: the Gold of Camarines Norte" aims to lure buyers for the high-end market and also prepare the jewellers for international trade fairs, said Leora A. Puso, DTI Camarines Norte jewelry industry coordinator.

Exports of fine jewelry rose 8.6% to $17.467 million in the eight months to August over yearago levels, official data show.

We fried and gumyan (in Nabua) seeds just like peanuts.

Small Fish with Beady Eyes… (http://www.marketmanila.com/archives/small-fish-with-beady-eyes)
by Marketman

http://img44.imageshack.us/img44/5536/28757575.jpg

Dulong is the common name used in the markets to sell the fish in the photo above. And I have always to referred to these as dulong, probably because my mom called it that, and thus I did earlier posts entitled “tortang dulong (http://www.marketmanila.com/archives/small-fish-with-beady-eyes)“, and “daing na dulong (http://www.marketmanila.com/archives/daing-na-dulong-dried-anchovy-fry)“. But those were technically incorrect post titles. First of all, “real” dulong is that smallest fish on the planet (if you were in grade school when I was) that some say only come from Lake Buhi in Camarines Sur. However, even that claim to fame by the “real” dulong (pandaca pigmea), has been beaten by an even smaller fish, schindleria brevipinguis (http://www.austmus.gov.au/fishes/fishfacts/fish/sbrevip.htm), from Australian waters, and underwhelmed by an EVEN SMALLER fish (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11022934/), a member of the carp family, found in Indonesia…

http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/3869/80196257.jpg

So while it is technically wrong, I think dulong is commonly (though mistakenly) used to refer to these small fish (which were 5-10 times bigger than then Indonesian fish) with beady eyes in many local markets. As I mentioned in my earliest post on dried dulong, I wasn’t sure if these were anchovy or dilis fry. Some googling confirmed a Visayan term “libgao” some of our crew use to name this fish, as potentially anchovy fry. In my post on tortang dulong, readers were quick to point to several names for this fish, including silverfish (not a scientifc name and I can’t find the scientific name) from Australia and Canada, ipon from Ilocos, nylon in Davao, etc. Suffice it to say that THESE small fish are most likely babies of a larger species of fish and are caught at sea with lambats or nets. Real dulong is presumably caught with nets in a lake. One could be mean and rename tortang dulong into “Several Hundred Cute and Defenseless Baby Anchovies in Egg Batter Fried to a Crisp in Hot Oil.” :)

Sinanglay na tilapia. Fresh tilapias are always available on most fish market in Metro Manila, means fresh and alive. At times, you run out of ideas how to cook them. Today I would like to share an alternate way of cooking the fish. Sinanglay is a Bikol way of cooking tilapia in coconut milk. The fish is stuffed with chopped onions, tomatoes, ginger, libas leaves, tanglad or lemongrass and wrapped in banana or pechay leaves. Libas or hog plum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spondias_mombin) is a kind of tree, the leaves are use for souring in cooking Bicol dishes like laing and fish. On my version for sinanglay na tilapia for the benefit of Pinoy overseas I use ingredients that are most likely available in most Asian store overseas. I also included in the stuffing bagoong alamang or fermented salted krill but this is an option. Here is the recipe.

Noynoy, Liberal Senatoriables Woo Bikol (http://voxbikol.com/bikolnews/1906/noynoy-liberal-senatoriables-woo-bikol)
Sonny Sales
Monday, November 2nd, 2009

NAGA CITY (26 October) -Liberal Party (LP) presidentiable Sen. Noynoy Aquino recently made consultations with multi-sectoral groups and old Liberal party members in Naga City, Calabanga, San Fernando towns in Camarines Sur and Albay province during the weekend.

During the audience with some 300 Liberal party supporters in Calabanga town, Partido LIBERAL Deputy Director General for Organization and Operation Henry A. Bacurnay told VOX BIKOL, that the early Liberal Party sorties in Bikol were practically to introduce "Noynoy" to the grass-roots and to dialogue with multi-sectoral groups on pressing issues confronting rural folks in Bikol.

Bacurnay said Sen. Aquino is pursuing a "People's Campaign" in next year's Presidential election and has made similar consultations with sectors in the Visayas and Mindanao in recent weeks.

He also noted that the Liberal Party is currently on its consolidation stage nationwide and will conduct a general assembly of the party in Manila scheduled on Oct. 26 and a national convention on Nov. 19.

Liberal Party's regional chairman, Naga Mayor Jesse Robredo, was with Sen. Noynoy's group composed of Liberal party senatoriables: former Bukidnon Rep. Neric Acosta, Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon; AKBAYAN- Rep. Risa Hontiveros, and Bukidnon Rep. TG Guingona during Saturday and Sunday sorties in Bikol.

Meanwhile, among Noynoy's party is former Integrated Bar of the Philippines president Joel Cadiz, a native of Naga City who is eyeing the congressional post for the 2nd district of Camarines Sur. Cadiz who is running under the Liberal party faces incumbent Cam. Sur 2nd district Congressman Luis R. Villafuerte. (SONNY SALES)

Laing sa Santol (http://bucaio.blogspot.com/2008/09/laing-sa-santol.html)

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IJQwhqJlyAo/SMdt2ceDxaI/AAAAAAAAA20/4JrvqvMLMSc/s400/IMG_6972.JPG (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IJQwhqJlyAo/SMdt2ceDxaI/AAAAAAAAA20/4JrvqvMLMSc/s1600-h/IMG_6972.JPG)
I would have titled this santol laing, since laing with santol is a novelty. But this is the true laing, from the Bicolanos' point of view, and I am defeating the idea by giving emphasis to the santol.

I remember that during our Saturday lunches, a long-time Bicolana friend squeezed kalamansi (http://bucaio.blogspot.com/2007/09/kalamansi-juice.html) on the laing we regularly had. I let her taste this, and she said it was cooked like a true Bicolano laing. At least the laing from the northern part of Bicol.

The true laing, as are the true ginataan from Bicol, have sour undertones. Ginataan uses vinegar, especially ginataang isda (fish in coconut cream), to cut through the richness of the gata. Laing uses kamias, for the same reason.

The sourness, which mellows down to a mere suggestion of sweetness in the case of the santol, is a surprise element for those not used to the flavor in a laing. The surprise is pleasant, and makes you ponder why all other laing are not cooked this way. The pairing of creaminess with sourness-sweetness, punctuated by varying degrees of heat, is perfect.

I first tasted laing sa santol at the beginning of this year's santol season. It was cooked and brought to the office by a Bicolana, and I couldn't get enough of it I vowed to cook it at home. It was explained that santol was used in place of kamias because they were bountiful at the moment. I am intrigued with the use of kamias, and I will use it next when the santol totally disappears from the markets.

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IJQwhqJlyAo/SNtXI00JHuI/AAAAAAAAA-E/kWLa_CcImjY/s400/IMG_7315_edited.JPG (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_IJQwhqJlyAo/SNtXI00JHuI/AAAAAAAAA-E/kWLa_CcImjY/s1600-h/IMG_7315_edited.JPG)
Laing uses the leaves of gabi (taro, Colocasia esculenta Linn. Schott & Endl.), for some including, and preferably with, the stalks.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IJQwhqJlyAo/SNtXfE1qu5I/AAAAAAAAA-M/PSd-qitz48k/s400/IMG_7321.JPG (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_IJQwhqJlyAo/SNtXfE1qu5I/AAAAAAAAA-M/PSd-qitz48k/s1600-h/IMG_7321.JPG)
The leaves to be cooked into laing are first dried, hanging from the rafters, so the itchy hairs or fur drop off. Some would prefer the leaves to be totally dry, so they don't absorb much coconut cream while cooking.

The dried leaves are then torn into thin strips, and mixed with flaked salted, dried fish for flavor (in Bicol they add the dried, fermented krill rolled into packed cylinders, which I failed to buy when I was Naga (http://bucaio.blogspot.com/2007/08/naga-institutions-biggs-bob-marlin-cafe.html), so I substituted hibe, or dried, peeled whole shrimps). Peeled, crushed ginger, and probably crushed garlic and sliced onions are added for spice, and the santol, diced, and some sliced chiles, both to prevent the laing from becoming cloying.

Laing, as Metro Manilans know it, is rice intensive, or requires a large amount of rice to be eaten with it, because of its richness. Laing sa santol is more intense - more rice is eaten unprecedentedly because of the sourness. You eat more of it since it is not so rich, consequently you eat more rice. I don't know if there's any logic to this, but it certainly happened to me.

One more thing why I love laing sa santol is the fact that with it, I can eat santol and relish its puckering sourness without all the accompanying toothaches. Many, many summers of green mangoes and many, many rainy seasons of santol (http://bucaio.blogspot.com/2008/09/panag-akan-na-pantol.html) have taken a toll on my pearly whites, to the point that just by looking at santol I could feel the familiar pain starting. Growing up has its disadvantages.

Sinanglay na Tilapia (http://overseaspinoycooking.blogspot.com/2009/01/sinanglay-na-tilapia.html)

Often times when we make this at home, we use carp or karpa if it's available; otherwise, we use tilapia. It's always best if the stuffing inludes the piga.

In Legazpi, sinanglay is called "picadillo" and the most commonly used fish is the big "bataway" or danggit in Bisaya. In Naga, karpa or tilapia is more commonly used because these are fresh water fishes while bataway is seawater. This is one of my favorite dishes. Lalo na kun dakulon sanang petsay. For me, the best way to cook laing is called "palu'sag" where you put all the ingredients all at the same time in the caldero, including the natok, then just cover it until it is cooked. When the leaves are almost cooked, you pour in the "liputok" or the kakang gata' then simmer for a while.

I learn from PNR that there rate from NAGA to LIBMANAN is P15 only . SIPOCOT would be like P20  Super barato.
NAGA CITY TO LIGAO is P45 . Hope to visit PNR Central station this days and get more info. Bihira na ang pag de deperencia ang train engine, i hope dagos dagos na ang operation. it's perfect, by the way, with bangot na tinapa and dinailan! ahh, kamurawayan nanngad.

we also prepare palusag, garycooper, the same way you do. your description is exactly how my mom does it! but for the gulay na natong (laing), using dried natong leaves has grown in popularity in naga and camsur. makonsumo sana sa guta pag alang na dahon ang ginamit :)

when i was assigned in mindanao years ago, i would get my supply of dried leaves all the way from naga via LBC. when i would look for it it cagayan de oro's mercado, they would almost always ask how many pigs i was to feed haha. (they don't know what they're missing hehe)

Our Government needs to find a way to increase the production of TABIOS.

A McDonald Meal is about 1,500 calories.

One tbsp of cooking oil is 150 to 200 calories. the same thing with gata (150 to 200 calories per tbsp):nuts:

Palm sized lean meat is about 300 calories.

If you eat 10 tbsps of laing (or any vegetable cooked with gata), it is equivalent to approximately 1500 to 2000 calories per day (rice not computed yet).:nuts::nuts:

No wonder why Bicolanos have one of the highest incidence of fatty liver in the PI:ohno:

Enjoy your meal.:)

See you at Endolab:lol::lol::lol:

PS. This post is a joke- the figures are not.

Thanks a lot hakz.. I've seen this monster too here in Ligao City, 12pm noon.... They probably cleaning the stations tracks and premises in every station they will pass.

Sa Iriga walang clearing and rehab na nangyayari...I wonder why? Palaging pabalik-balik ang mga paninda sa riles......walang railway management sa Iriga yata.....

Hi Hakz, Is the train running the time you take the pictures? It seems the carriages or cars are in motion. If the train is running, delikado sa mga nag aaguing sasakyan. People need to be careful, lalo na sa mga vendors very near sa railway. :ohno:

Yeah, Tumatakbo ang tren na kinunan ko ng pictures...then rumigil para paalisin yung mga nanininda sa riles....:ohno::ohno::ohno:

You are right Hakz. Mukhang test run lang yata ang kaya ng old PNR trains.

And they have failing the test.:lol::lol:

Sain daw digdi sa Bikol mahahanap ang pinakamasiram na kinunot?

Kinunot na Pagi (http://overseaspinoycooking.blogspot.com/2008/10/kinunot-na-pagi.html)

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KC0IeKPFNMo/SOZft4VdEfI/AAAAAAAAB-M/d2DlJ3hpi4s/s400/P1030403a.jpg (http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KC0IeKPFNMo/SOZft4VdEfI/AAAAAAAAB-M/d2DlJ3hpi4s/s1600-h/P1030403a.jpg)

Kinunot is a Bicolano dish made up of either stingray (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stingray) or baby shark cooked in coconut milk with malungay or moringa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moringa_oleifera) leaves. I was raring to cooked kinutnot ever since we had that family dinner at Kinuron (http://www.tiendesitas.com.ph/store.asp?sid=68) located at Tiendesitas (http://www.tiendesitas.com.ph/storelist.asp?vid=3). The food stall specialized in Pilipino cuisine specifically Bicol authentic dishes. We had a big dinner package called family treat and an additional order of kinunot na pagi. The dinner is not bad at all I would recommend the place to any one. There are a lot of food choices from your usual sinigang to the more exotic kinunot na pagi.

I don't know if you will agree with me, but most Bicolanos cook their laing using fresh gabi leaves, while those in the other provinces use dried leaves. In some provinces, they even sautee the "bangots" first before putting the coconut milk.

For me, the best way to cook laing is called "palu'sag" where you put all the ingredients all at the same time in the caldero, including the natok, then just cover it until it is cooked. When the leaves are almost cooked, you pour in the "liputok" or the kakang gata' then simmer for a while.iyo nanggad, hakz. sa itsura pa sana, pati tipo kang kaldero arahit! dakulang pagkakaiba pag lipotok na guta ang ginagamit :)

we also prepare palusag, garycooper, the same way you do. your description is exactly how my mom does it! but for the gulay na natong (laing), using dried natong leaves has grown in popularity in naga and camsur. makonsumo sana sa guta pag alang na dahon ang ginamit :)

when i was assigned in mindanao years ago, i would get my supply of dried leaves all the way from naga via LBC. when i would look for it it cagayan de oro's mercado, they would almost always ask how many pigs i was to feed haha. (they don't know what they're missing hehe)

sauteing the bangot before the guta is certainly unbikolano

our topics are pushing me to borrow the nearest neighbor's kudkuran!

kami rin ganyan din ang pagluto lahat ng ingredients nasa kaldero at lalagyan ng kakang gata pag malapit ng hanguin.....

TRIVIA: ano ta binabansagan ang DINAILAN na PITONG BIYERNES?

by the way, was it hakz who asked about "pinakurat" when iligan's famous sukang pinakurat was mentioned in one of the posts?

"kurat" (cebuano visayan) is kilag in bikol, gulat in tagalog,to emphasize the "impact" of the vinegar on people hehe.. it can be quite addictive. 1 bottle doesn't last 2 days at home. matindi talaga!

in naga, available in the dry goods and exotic foods shop beside maki yaki japanese resto in magsaysay strip. in manila, available in landmark supermarkets. garo igwa naman sa SM. comes in hot and spicy flavor, too.

ngunian ko lang yan nadangog na pitong biyernes an bansag sa dinailan....pero masiram yan...

ako an naghapot kung ano an pinakurat, now i know...thanks son!

Bicol Native Cuisine
(http://www.camarinessur.gov.ph/?page=3&pid=3)

Bicolanos are noted for their gastronomic appetite in fiery or chili-hot dishes. Unlike people from other regions in the entire country, a Bicolano can relish every meal which has for its recipe anything spicy.

Here are some of the list of recipes which are notably pure Bicolano.

Gulay Na Natong (Laing)

This Bikolano recipe is made of finely shredded "natong" or gabi leaves flavored with a "bangut" of "balaw" or small shrimps, or small crabs. Sometimes ground pork with a little amount of fat is added; for an appetizing aroma, a few pieces of whole native pepper (not labuyo) are added just before removing the cooking vessel from the fire.

Langkang Palusag (Bread fruit)

Langka, bangut, garlic, onion are placed in the coconut milk and brought to a boil then allowed to simmer until the langka is tender. Stirring of the ingredients need not be done.

Bikol Express

Made of "balaw", with a little amount of ground pork and "siling labuyo". The amount of pepper placed in the recipe depends upon the capacity of the consumer to savour "hot" food.

Pinangat

Diced lobster meat mixed with the meat of young coconut (lukadon), lemongrass (tanglad) and ground garlic, diced onions are added. All these are mixed together in coconut milk. Each lump of this mixture is wrapped in two layers of well-wiped, clean gabi leaves and pairs of these wrapped lumps are tied together with strips of the paklang (the skin of the gabi stalk). All of these paired wrapped lumps of the flattened mixture are cooked in coconut milk just enough to cover all the packages. Bring the milk to a boil, allow it to simmer until the cooked aroma is smelled.

Ginuygoy

Tender leaves of the gabi (natong na piniripit) are cooked in little water, flavored with dinaelan and when cooked is seasoned with lemon juice.

Inon-on
Sibobog(galunggong) or the remolyetes or any saltwater fish may be cooked with vinegar or lemon juice, garlic, onions with generous amount of oil and as little water as possible.
http://www.camarinessur.gov.ph/images/icon_sili.jpg Ginaring
An appetizing dish which is a roast skewered fish of talusog (dalag).

For Dessert

Ripe guavas may be made into "gulay na bayawas" from small slices and cooked in coconut milk with melted "sangkaka"(panutsa).

Santan cooked from the coconut milk and melted sangkaka brought to the right consistency and pilinut is added for making it.

For Breakfast or Merienda (Snacks)

Ibos of pulutan (malagkit rice) which is allowed to stand for a couple of hours in coconut milk then wrapped in coils of cocnut leaves and then cooked. It is usually dipped in chocolate or eaten with santan.

Sinuman of pulutan (malagkit rice) cooked in melted sangkaka(panutsa) and coconut milk cooked in the same manner as rice is cooked.

Butse, tabog-tabog snacks made from camote (sweet potato)

Linubak- mashed unripe bananas which are sweetened with scrapings of panutsa.

Olog-olog (called holog-holog by some)these are small balls of malagkit flour cooked in boiling water sweeted with sangkaka.

on this rainy evening in manila, all these dishes make a perfect meal!

for those longing for kinunot in manila, go to the Sunday Market at the Lung Center and visit the carenderias. good kinunot is served along with gulay na sili, natong and other bikol dishes.

also those missing bikol food in manila: go to ULOULO (original carenderia; other ulo-ulo places have sprouted nearby), road 2, next to veterans hospital golf area.

long queues for the sinigang na ulo-ulo (cooked the bikol way, cocido style talaga). many times SRO crowd. also serving spicy adobo, kinunot, dinuguan, ginisang piga, natong. pilinuts, polvoron, conserva etc available for dessert.

P100/ bowl ang ulo-ulo with large head of fish. unlimited sabaw.

madaling mahanap ta usually by 11am, dakul nang kotse nakapark sa area, maski sa luwas kang eskinita.

Caceres Priests Forbidden from Running for Public Office –Archbishop Legaspi (http://www.voxbikol.com/bikolnews/1902/caceres-priests-forbidden-running-public-office-%E2%80%93archbishop-legaspi)

Vox Bikol
Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Naga City (29 October) - Annoyed by rumors that some priests in his jurisdiction are being enjoined to run for public office, Caceres Archbishop Leonardo Legaspi declared in a homily that priests in the Archdiocese of Caceres are forbidden from seeking public posts this coming May 2010 Elections.

In a homily delivered last 25 October, Archbishop Legaspi said the Code of Canon Law is clear in forbidding clerics from "assum[ing] public office which entail participation in the exercise of civil power."

Speaking in Pilipino, the Archbishop explained that priests were not meant for politics "kundi ang kaligtasan ng kaluluwa" (but for the salvation of souls).

He made this clarification in view of rumors circulating that some priests in the Archdiocese are planning or are being enjoined to run for elective positions during the 2010 National and Local Elections.

Archbishop Legaspi, however, stated that despite the Canon Law provision against clerics holding civil authority, it is not impossible that a priest assume a public post.

"... [M]aliwanag rin na hindi imposible na mangyari na ang isang pari ay makaupo sa political positions," the Archbishop admitted.

He indicated that, nonetheless, Canon Law also provides that priests may hold civil power when "the need to protect the rights of the church or to promote the common good requires it in the judgment of the competent ecclesiastical authority."

In the case of Caceres, however, the Archbishop stated that such need is not present, hereby denying the possibility of allowing any priest under his authority from being a candidate for the 2010 elections.

For the past several weeks, speculations in the local media have indicated that two priests of the Archdiocese are being urged to run this coming election. No formal declarations from the rumored priests have been made as of yet.

Good news for me! :D

Dae na muna maki sabayan mga ibang padi sa next election. Si Msgr Nono muna mag dalagan against the OLD GUARD. It is not important If Msgr. Nono wins or not.But the essential here is that somebody had to face the OLD and traditional system.

Aquino unveils ‘Ninoy and Cory Avenue’ in Naga

By Jan Rev Davila
Inquirer Southern Luzon

Filed Under: News, Politics, Elections, Personalities, Cory Aquino

NAGA CITY, Philippines—Sen. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and key members of the Liberal Party visited Naga City Saturday to unveil the “Ninoy and Cory Avenue,” a thoroughfare named after his illustrious parents, former President Cory Aquino and Ninoy Aquino.

Despite the midday sun, hundreds of Aquino's supporters clad in yellow flocked to the lobby of SM City Naga to catch a glimpse of Aquino and his partymates.

Noynoy and his Liberal Party-mates visited the province of Camarines Sur Saturday to help drum up support and welcome new members from the ranks of local politicians.

Noynoy was accompanied by the Liberal Party’s senatorial aspirants—Former Bukidnon Rep. Neric Acosta, Rep. Teofisto Guingona III, Muntinlupa Rep. Ruffy Biazon, and Akbayan Party-list Rep. Riza Hontiveros-Baraquel.

Naga City Mayor Jesse M. Robredo was with the group during the motorcade.

After meeting with Archbishop Leonardo Legaspi and attending a brief press conference with local media, the Aquino party made its way to the outlying towns.

The convoy made a short stop in Calabanga town before heading back to Naga for the unveiling of the avenue.

On August 4, three days after the death of the former president, Naga’s City Council passed the ordinance giving the name.

A previously unnamed main artery leading from one of Naga’s main roads linking it to the national highway will now bear the name of the Aquino couple.

It is the only avenue known to bear two names, supporters of the measure said.

The same avenue is also home to a newly constructed mall, the central bus and jeepney terminal, as well as the soon-to-be-completed Naga coliseum.

Naga City Mayor Robredo said the inauguration and naming of the avenue is part of the city’s recognition of the Aquino couple’s great contribution to the restoration of Philippine democracy.

Robredo, who is on his last term as mayor, added the unveiling is a symbolic gesture of how Naga came to be because of “People Power” and the Aquino legacy.

climbed this hill and spend a night there (caglago?) 13 yrs ago before i left naga. caramoan then was just a secret among backpackers and adventurers.
there were four or five of us- and we each had one isle to ourselves at one point. hinatod sana kami kang bangkero saka sinundo pagkatapos pirang oras.

we climbed the hill at dusk- and we were greeted by the amazing sight of a firely-filled tree! the view of the sea from atop the hill was breathtaking; i suppose, still is.

PNR UPDATES: PNR CENTRAL STATION

I just talk to Engr. Toledano, and had given me updates. PNR operation will resume it's regular trip around the mid of November. They are starting to finished installing the cemented block ( concrete ties ) from Libmanan to Sipocot. and 3 houses in Concepcion Pequena and one in Iriga needs to be renovate or remove, because they are too near the railway. The old train engine (DEL) General Motors will be available but he said, there will be a possible mechanical problems in the future ( As usually ). I did ask him about the 18 Korean Coaches purchased. He said it was already been used, probably in Metro Manila. It is a light rail coaches, with limited capacity and short distance usage. Plus it doesn't have the capacity to run in a higher level areas like in Sipocot to Tagkawayan.

In my interview, i ask if there is a possibility to change the machine engine. He said, yes there is a plan to purchase CATERPILLAR engine as a substitute to the old DEL-General Motors. But the cost of one (1) Caterpillar Engine is around P300 Million. Still it is a question if the government is capable of purchasing this engine .

About the PNR central station area. There are already working to remove houses inside PNR coverage area to make a STATION MALL. But at the moment this area are occupied by 37 houses. They have a time table to remove them would be this year until early nextyear and develop a STATION MALL. Both PNR and CITY Government will have them relocated inside the city.
The first priority is in PNR CENTRAL STATION -NAGA, if they finished this, Iriga will be the next.
Under the M.O.A. of PNR and SM this year , I really don't know exactly if it covers only Metro Manila or the entire Philippines. But in-case they don't have one here in Bicol, PNR can probably choose other companies like Robinson. Engr. Toledano said that there was already a rendering of PNR NAGA Station Mall during the Ramos Adminsitration and the area of the mall will cover the entire PNR station both sides, it is like a big dome within the PNR station and the mall itself. Again when are they going to start this.. will depend upon the removal of illegal houses this year and nextyear. PNR main office in Manila has the final say who will be the winning bidder for this construction.

CamSur personnel tapped in disaster management gab (http://camsur.com/CamSur-News/camsur-press-release/camsur-personnel-tapped-in-disaster-management-gab.html)

PILI, CAMSUR- The International humanitarian group Action Against Hunger/Accion Contre La Faim (ACF) joined hands with the Provincial Government of Camarines Sur in launching the 5-day Disaster Risk Reduction Training for PDCC members of Catanduanes and MDCC of Cabusao, Camarines Sur held in Legazpi City, Oct. 26-30, 2009.

Well-trained in disaster management and preparedness, key personnel from the Provincial Government of CamSur ably served as resource speakers during the 5-day training.
The province's trainors included Erwin Oliver of Provincial Social Services Office (PSSO), Edgardo Apolinar of Provincial Governor's Office (PGO), and Erwin Gaston and Jonrick Galban of the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) who conducted in-depth discussions and training on the Geographic Information System (GIS). The training on GIS included validation, maintenance, updating, and replicating GIS-based multi-hazard maps for more informed disaster management decision-making.

Gov. LRay Villafuerte's partnership with Naga College Foundation Typhoon Prevention Center (NCF-TPC) had earlier put to test the Early Warning System program aimed at reducing the risks brought about by calamities through the installation of typhoon tracking charts. The program, along with other pre-emptive measures that were launched at the height of the recent calamities, proved to be effective tools in considerably reducing the effects of the recent typhoons which visited CamSur

CamSur ups tax collections (http://camsur.com/CamSur-News/camsur-press-release/camsur-ups-tax-collections.html)

PILI, CAMSUR. The provincial government has made considerable inroads in its efforts to collect taxes from delinquent real property owners.

This positive outlook came out from the report of the Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO) for the year 2009.

From January to October this year, PTO was able to realize collections from arrearages in real estate taxes amounting to P 5.2 Million. Aside from this, PTO was also able to collect some P3.3 M in delinquent franchise tax from an electric cooperative.
The province’s collections in delinquent real estate taxes amounting to P8.4 M was much higher compared to last year’s collection totaling P3.5 M.

The administration of Governor LRay Villafuerte has been relentless in the campaign to enhance the revenue collections of the province. More revenues mean more money to fund social development projects, it was explained.

PTO officials attributed the enhanced collection this year to the public awareness of real property owners to pay their tax arrears. The PTO regularly sends notices to delinquent taxpayers. Some of the delinquent real estate owners update and settle their accounts before the scheduled public auction.

The province still has some P400 Million collectibles in delinquent franchise taxes from several major telecom and power companies. Hopes are high that the province may be able to collect from them as they are now in constant contact with PTO and negotiating to settle their tax arrears.

AcadFest 2009 winners bared; Ateneo declared champ (http://naga.gov.ph/journal2/?module=popup&page=2&id=1546)
November 5, 2009

NAGA CITY --- Defending champion Ateneo de Naga University secured the top crown in the recently concluded Academic Festival (AcadFest) 2009 held October 28-30 at the Naga City Youth Center here.
Universidad de Sta. Isabel was first runner-up, followed by La Consolacion Academy of Iriga City as second runner-up. Third runner-up was Philippine Science High School, Bicol campus, which was dislodged from its first runner-up rank in last year’s academic fest.
AcadeFest is an annual academic and public speaking competition among high school students in this city and the province of Camarines Sur. It is hosted by UP Harong, an organization of University of the Philippines-Diliman Bicolano students, in cooperation with the City Government of Naga and private sponsors.
This year’s theme, “Breaking the Apathy: The Critical Role of the Bicolano Youth in Political Participation and Social Transformation” challenges the Bicolano youth to partake in political activities and to initiate social change.
Participants vied for cash prizes, medals and certificates in at least six academic events in the 3-day competition.
Janine Patricia G. Robredo of the Universidad de Sta. Isabel, the mayor’s daughter, was adjudged Best Speaker of the Tingog nin Rason Debate Tournament final round and Dwight Garvy Tan of the Ateneo de Naga University was picked the Best Over-All Speaker during the Tingog nin Rason Debate Tournament where the Ateneo de Naga Debating Team emerged as champion.
Following are the champions of the other events: 2ndd Ladawan nin Kabikolan Photojournalis-- Jainee Khyara Almazan (La Consolacion College, Iriga); 6th Gayon Bikolnon Poster Making Contes-- Gil Bustilla (Baao National High School); 7th Sural Essay Writing Contest -- Deborah Nolasco (Naga College Foundation); 8th Harong nin Dunong Quiz Bee – (Team A, Philippine Science HS – Bicol); 12th Boses kan Jovenes PublicSpeaking Contest -- Dwight Tan (AdNU); 14th Tingog nin Rason DebateTournament – (Team A, AdNU)

Tanya Mia Perez, AcadFest chairperson, said the event is part of the organization’s role of honing well-rounded individuals and developing their potentials. “It aims to promote awareness among the students of their being a decisive force in determining the future of our society,” she explained even as she added that “the various contests shall exhibit the advocacies of our organization and uphold the value of camaraderie, intellectual freedom, and social awareness.”

RP targets $2.5-billion geothermal development (http://mb.com.ph/articles/228059/rp-targets-25billion-geothermal-development)
By LEONORA WALET, Asia Green Investment Correspondent
November 5, 2009, 4:46pm

HONG KONG, Nov. 5 (Reuters) – The Philippine government aims to approve contracts to explore and develop the country's massive geothermal energy resources, which could attract more than $2.5 billion in private investment, an official said.

The Philippines, the world's second-largest developer of geothermal energy, plans to approve 19 deals in the next five months to allow foreign and domestic companies accesss to geothermal projects, the division chief for geothermal energy at the Philipine Energy Department, Alejandro Oanes, told Reuters.

Philippine power producer Energy Development Corp and Envent, a unit of Geysir Green Energy, one of Iceland's biggest geothermal energy companies, were among groups vying for contracts to tap the country's geothermal resources, he said.

''Incentives for renewable projects are giving (the country's) geothermal development a much needed boost,'' said Oanes in a telephone interview from Manila.

Tax holidays and tariff exemptions for renewable energy projects are boosting investment in clean energy in the Philippines, with the government recently awarding 87 contracts to develop alternative energy sources.

Geothermal power accounted for 17 percent of the country's total power mix at the end of 2008, with installed capacity close to 2,000 megawatts, energy department data showed.

The government was issuing tenders for the development of 10 geothermal sites and negotiating nine more deals directly with various companies, Oanes said. Combined, the deals could harness more than 620 megawatts of geothermal energy.

Geothermal sites covered in the deals include Mount Isarog, in Camarines Sur province, where about 70 MW of geothermal power could be developed. The government is also looking at resouces in Mount Labo, Camarines Norte with a potential capacity of 65 MW.

Other provinces identified with geothermal resources include Benguet, Cagayan, Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, Surigao del Norte and Laguna.

Good evening Naga, Iriga and the Camarines provinces! :D

I hope you all don't mind if I do a little OT plug. But anyway, if you're between 18 and 35 and you want to be a driver of change in Southeast Asia, then join SEAchange, Southeast Asia's largest youth movement for personal change! Also, you may win one of 500 trips to Kuala Lumpur to attend the 2009 Youth Engagement Summit (YES2009). Hurry, there are only 200 slots left!

Visit http://philippines.youthsays.com/seachange/go/Fcw to find out more and join. Membership is free! It's time we become true agents of change, in Naga and Iriga, the Camarines provinces, the Philippines and throughout Southeast Asia! :D

(I hope I'm not being overly spammy here. I'm just bored. :tongue2:)

Anyway, if time (and plane schedule) allows, I was hoping to go down there for one of my daytrips (this will probably be in 2010, since my sched is booked and I'm short on funds). Any ideas?

GMA-7 income up 10% in third quarter

By Mary Ann LL. Reyes (The Philippine Star)

MANILA, Philippines - Broadcasting firm GMA Network said it remains on track of reaching its yearend target as it finished the first nine months of 2009 with a 10-percent increase in net income, the company said yesterday.

Net income jumped to P2.15 billion from the P1.96 billion made in the same period in 2008 despite a series of natural calamities that recently struck the country and the global financial crisis that caused a decrease in ad spend among major advertisers this year.

GMA chairman, president and CEO Felipe Gozon expressed confidence the network can achieve and even exceed its net income target by yearend.

“We remain ahead of competition in terms of sales. Barring any major event that will affect the company’s performance for the remaining months, I think 2009 will be another breakthrough year for the network,” he said.

Gross revenues for the first nine months went up seven percent to P10.02 billion. Airtime revenues from TV and radio contributed P9.24 billion, while subscription fees from international operations and other revenue-generating activities of subsidiaries made P782 million.

Total operating expenses were kept to a single-digit growth of nine percent to P5.55 billion. Production costs increased two percent year-on-year to P2.92 billion.

Nine-month earnings before interests, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) settled at P3.71 billion.

Subscription revenues for GMA International jumped 54 percent over last year. Officials pointed out that the steady growth in the subscriber count of GMA’s two international channels — GMA Pinoy TV (GPTV) and GMA Life TV (GLTV) was responsible for the revenue upswing. Both channels are now available in the US, Canada, Europe, Middle East, North Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Guam, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Hong Kong, and many other countries to cater to the international audience.

GPTV subscribers totaled 225,000 by the end of the third quarter, or a 17-percent increase year-on-year. The channel has an estimated 1.1 million viewers worldwide. GLTV subscribers are now at 109,000 worldwide, growing 142 percent since last year.

GMA Worldwide Inc. (GWI), meanwhile, has syndicated locally-made programs to as far as Africa, Middle East and Europe. GWI had a positive revenue contribution with P28.3 million worth of syndication sales in the third quarter, equivalent to 90 percent of its total projected revenues for 2009.

Just recently, GWI sold the rights of the Philippine adaptation of Marimar and Dyesebel to countries such as Kenya, Uganda, Singapore and Malaysia.

The network continues its regional expansion to strengthen signal coverage in key provinces. The new five-kilowatt TV relay in Mt. Amuyao, Mt. Province which airs in Channel 5 was activated last Oct. 12. Transmitters and antenna systems for TV-10 Sto. Tomas, Benguet, TV-12 Cagayan de Oro, TV-7 Naga City and TV-12 Mt. Banoy, Batangas were likewise upgraded.

Hi Kevin.

Good morning SCC Naga Forumers.

Why don't we plan for a Grand SCC Naga Forumers Club Launching on December on January. It would be a very good start for the year.

I could arrange for use the SM Activity Center for the occasion.

I'm committing the Endolab as one of the corporate sponsors. I'll also solicit support from other Naga Businessmen to become corporate partners.

Kevin, being the thread pioneer you could be an ideal and symbolic first president.

. I would be in Manila next week for my daughter's Kumon Advance Student Awarding at PICC. We will be staying at the Trader's Hotel at Roxas Boulevard just across PICC. I could meet you guys (and other Manila based forumers) there for a dinner.

I'm very busy in Naga- but I will arrange a separate meeting here for the Bicol based group on my lean days.

If you're not free on that time, my Family would be traveling to Bangkok on November 25 to December 1. I could meet you in Manila on the 24th or after we arrive on December 1. We will be booked at Intercon in transit to Thailand. It would also be a very good venue for a meeting.

PM me if the plan is feasible.

Our Target: SCC Naga Grand Launch 2010.

Ngak! Ideal and symbolic first president. :D

It'd be such an honor but I dunno if I can carry out such privilege and responsibility as well. I'm just a 21-year old kid working in Manila, FYI.

I'd be willing to meet you though with other Manila-based Bicolanos/Nagueños when you go here. We can talk about the prospective SSC Naga Forumers Club. As far as I know, Bobby has been wanting such a group even before SSC Naga was small.

Bobby and Hakz would welcome this suggestion very much. I do too. But don't put me as President. Please. :D

It's one of my favorite dishes!

Tapos an kasabay, inun-on na sibubog sa lubas. Sabayan mo pa ki pili.
The same in Partido, we call it Picadillo.
