If we guess, it might be.. but we really dont have a specific guide.. as for last year the passing rate of USI was only 42 % lowest ever since..I'm still hopeful that USI is still the best as for now.

 di ba dapat mas mataas yung passing rate because of the leakages?
Mond87 March 16th, 2007, 02:08 PM  di ba dapat mas mataas yung passing rate because of the leakages?
No... naghigpit kasi nalaman na merong leakage... Heheh... my mama jane has her own nursing review center... Their normal passing rate is around 80%. Last June 2006, 69% lang ang nakapasa. Then, noong December, 80 out of 100+ ang pumasa... Mostly pati ng mga reviewers niya eh taga Universidad de Sta. Isabel... So magaling talaga yung mga nursing students dun...

Iba kasi nangyari dito eh nung nagkaleakage tumaas yung passing rate i think 2 schools dito yung kasama sa top10.and may passers din na nakatop5...well kelangan na rin naman mag retake test 3 and 5..

Yup, pero I think most Bicol takers were not recipients of the leakage... kaya bumaba yung passing rates dito...

marlon_ld March 16th, 2007, 06:51 PM Well, i haven't heard any latest news about the nursing education in Ateneo de Naga Univ, but as i know last school year, Nursing Dept. have slashes it's number of enrollees because they would like to maintain an average or small number of nursing students, but the best among the best.. for short choosing "Quality students" creame ala creame.. This strategy is uncommon to Ateneo as i know.
I really don't know much about their Objective why.. but as far as i know many ateneo nursing student transfer to Naga College Foundation.
excuse me po...pwede makisama...
im a bsn student po sa adnu..nd i jz wanna clarify some things...hehehehe!!
1. last yr our dept had a major screening, frm 10 sections they narrowed it down to 5. meaning, almost 200 students were screened out because of poor academic performances. the guidelines for screening were skills, knowledge and attitude. we had a series of interview, exams and we shud maintain a grade that they set(i forgot the exact numerical grade) and QPI should be atleast( nkakalimutan ko n nman). kya i think yung mga lumipat sa NC mga screened out yun.
2.ang latest news nman sa adnu bsn ay we are having our first manila affiliation, actually the first batch had already left last march 8. nsa 2nd batch kc ako. those left here in naga(kmi n ngang mga batch 2) will have our red cross basic life support training and our local affiliation s BMC and sa BRTTH s albay. wen the first batch of students come back, kmi nman frm d second batch pupunta s mnila and cla nman mg rered cross training and duduty s mga local hospitals.
yun lng po...sna nliwanagan kyo..hehehehe!
garzland March 17th, 2007, 01:31 AM ADNU may excel because they chose the brightest students as well as USI but NC excels because of good quality of education despite their students have been screened out from other schools...

garzland March 17th, 2007, 01:46 AM Location
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/5738/mapofnagave1.png
Naga City is centrally located in the Bicol region, a peninsula found on the southeastern tip of the Philippine island of Luzon. It is 377 kilometers south of Manila, the nation’s capital, and about 380 kilometers north of Cebu.
Despite having a relatively smaller land area compared to other cities in Bicol, Naga City is undeniably the region's most progressive city, popularly referred to as the "Heart of Bicol". It is the only chartered city and the commercial, educational, financial, religious, and cultural center of the Bicol region. Residents of Naga City are called Nagueños.
The city is at the core of Metro Naga, a fast-growing area formally comprised of 15 municipalities belonging to the Metro Naga Development Council (MNDC). All in all, the MNDC covers the entire 2nd district of the province of Camarines Sur and part of the 1st and 4th districts.
Naga is easily accessible using air and land transport. Air access is through a 45 to 60-minute trip from the international airports of Manila and Cebu. By land, the city is a 7 to 8-hour ride from Manila; and approximately 22 hours from Cebu with ferry transfers in Sorsogon, the southernmost province of Bicol. Daily rail services to and from Manila are provided by the Philippine National Railways.
garzland March 17th, 2007, 01:54 AM Banking and Finance
Naga City is the acknowledged financial center of Bicol with more than 50 banks locating their branches in the city. The city hosts the regional offices of Philippine National Bank (PNB), Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company (Metrobank), and Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC). A number of banks have several branches in the city, like Metrobank, RCBC, Equitable PCI Bank, Bank of the Philippine Islands, and Banco de Oro Universal Bank (BDO UniBank). A leading thrift bank, RCBC Savings Bank, enjoys wide patronage of both Filipino and Chinese businessmen. Robinsons Bank of the Gokongwei group has also set up its branch in the city. The two biggest rural banks in the country, Bank of Makati and the Golden 7 Bank (G7Bank), a consistent Most Outstanding Rural Bank awardee, are also found in the city. Two small albeit very active banks, Asia United Bank and Philippine Farmers Bank, are the two latest banks to open in the city.
Commerce
With its burgeoning local economy that has outpaced other local economies in Bicol, Naga City is undeniably the center of business and industry in the entire region, even being named as the Most Business-Friendly City by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry for three successive years. It has several commercial business districts. It has a lifestyle center, three shopping malls plus a number of strip malls scattered at the heart of the CBD-I, popularly known as Centro.
Spankingly new Avenue Square along Magsaysay Avenue is Bicol's premiere lifestyle center. It has two modern 400-seater convention center (Avenue Convention Plaza); restaurant/ music bar (Lolo's Music Bar); restaurants (Max's Restaurant, Naga Oriental Wok, Shakey's, Peaberry, Little Asia); a specialty coffee shop (The Coffee Beanery); dermatology clinic (Skin Systems); European salon (David's Salon); signature flip-flops shop (Havaianas); and nationwide franchising drugstore (Mercury Drug), among other well-known stores.
LCC Central Mall Naga; Robertson Mall; and Nagaland eMall, housing Robinsons Supermarket, are the city's other major shopping malls. Bichara Theater Mall; Emily Arcade; Divisoria Mall; and Paseo de Caceres, which has a Chinese-theme Roman Catholic chapel - Navidad de Naga Chapel - are just some of the city's strip malls.
SM Prime Holdings and Landco Pacific Corp. have both expressed interest in the city's capability of hosting bigger shopping complexes. SM has started to lease its first mall site in Bicol located at Naga's CBD-II while preparing construction plans. On the other hand, Landco is expected to start construction of its Pacific Mall Naga during mid-2007.
A number of restaurants-cum-bars and bistros are found along Magsaysay Avenue, dubbed Naga City's "Malate District". Chili Peppers, Bob Marlin, Grilling Point, Molino Grill, Juno's, ClubM8, and CocoLeaf are just some of the few exciting joints found there. Aside from these restobars that seem to sprout everywhere in Naga, numerous popular fastfood chain outlets abound like Jollibee, McDonald's, Chowking, Pizza Hut, Max's Restaurant, Greenwich, KFC, and Shakey's, among other.
Naga City is also the first city in the Bicol region to host specialty food restaurants like Naga Oriental Wok (fine dining Chinese), Hokkien (casual Chinese), Makiyaki (Japanese), Peaberry (fine dining Mediterranean), Resto di San Giuseppe (casual yuppie), and Green Earth Cafe (health food). For coffee enthusiasts, coffeeshops have also sprung up in strategic places around the city, the more popular being Mudbugs Coffee & Co., Aljosh Cafe, Starmark Cafe, Beanbag Coffee,The Coffee Beanery, Cafe Frederico, Coco Cafe, Cafe Trevi, and Cafe R.
Quite interestingly, Naga's investor-friendly economy has encouraged growth and development of homegrown business chains like New South Star Drugstore, Graceland Foods Industries and Bigg's which are successfully competing nationwide with industry leaders Mercury Drug, Goldilock's and Jollibee, respectively.
garzland March 17th, 2007, 02:20 AM GROWTH AREAS
http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/1425/cbd1gd0.png
More popularly called by locals as “centro”, CBD I is the traditional commercial hub. The Naga River, Hernandez Avenue and Arana Street bound this 30-hectare area.
Being the location of most businesses engaged in services and wholesale and retail trade, CBD-I teems with people-- which swells to as much as 250,000 at daytime-- from the city and its neighboring municipalities. The Naga City Supermarket, the biggest in Southeast Asia when it was built in 1969, is found at the core of this district.
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/6972/cbd2zl9.png
CBD-II, inaugurated in 1996, is designed for medium-end commercial development. It is dubbed as Naga's Transport Exchange.
This 265-hectare land is bounded by the Philippine National Railway (PNR) tracks and runs through Roxas Avenue (Naga Diversion Road). A 27-hectare property, developed by Ruby Shelter and Development Corporation, serves as the core. This is referred to as CBD-II Central. The surrounding area is called CBD-II Peripheral.
The area's development is anchored on transport and cargo terminals which bring in a considerable market. The existing terminals, located within CBD-II Central, are the Naga City Integrated Bus Terminal (with 800 bus trips daily) and 2 privately-owned integrated jeepney terminals servicing two-thirds of all inter-municipality public utility vehicles.
Warehousing, distribution and transport service companies abound within CBD-II Peripheral.
CBD-II is also the location of the 12,000-seat Metro Naga Coliseum, still under construction. It is also the site of the soon-to-be built SM Mall, the country's largest mall chain.
South Riverfront Growth AreaLand Area: 30 hectares
This area is found only a few blocks west of CBD-I. It is geared to accommodate medium- to high-end commercial development.
South Riverfront is composed of the whole of Brgy. Sabang-- except those areas which are socialized housing sites or are otherwise excluded by the Naga City Land Use Plan for commercial or industrial development. Aside from CBD-I, it is bounded by the Naga River and the town of Camaligan.
The development of the area is anchored on Naga City's biggest shopping mall-- LCC Central Mall.
CONCEPCION GROWTH CORRIDOR
http://img185.imageshack.us/img185/4322/concepciongrowthareaej0.png
This 241-hectare site comprises the area along and immediately contiguous to the Maharlika Highway from Concepcion Pequeña the Del Rosario boundary, leading towards the capital town of Pili, Camarines Sur. It is ideal for for medium- to high-end residential and commercial development.
The corridor has traditionally been a location for beverage bottling plants, warehouses and distribution centers. Many companies have also established regional headquarters within this area. A 96-hectare high-end residential and commercial development along the Almeda Highway will be established.
East Highland Tourism Zone
Land area: 1,026 hectares
Located at the foot of Mt. Isarog, this area is ideal for tourism-related activities and development. It is only a 15 to 20-minute drive away from the city proper.
The East Highland Zone covers barangays Pacol, Carolina, and Panicuason. It is characterized by relatively cooler weather and abundant water resources. Several mountain resorts already operate within the area.
Mt. Isarog boasts of the biggest remaining rain forest in Southern Luzon, several waterfalls, and freshwater and hot springs. It is frequented by adventure sports enthusiasts.
Much of real estate development in the city currently happens within East Highland or in areas leading to the zone. Naga's universities are locating some of their facilities in the area. The Ateneo de Naga University relocated its high school department in 2003.
The Metro Naga Sports Complex, the site of the 1997 and 2002 Palarong Pambansa (national scholastic games) is located in the zone.
Road networks linking the area to the Naga City Agro-Industrial Zone and other towns in Metro Naga have already been completed.
Naga City Agro-Industrial Zone
Land area: 309 hectares
This area is envisioned as an agro-industrial hub, capitalizing on Bicol's extensive agricultural resources, the market offered by Naga itself, and the city's character as the regional center of trade and services-- providing access to markets in Metro Naga, Camarines Sur, Bicol and South Luzon.
The Agro-Industrial Zone spans barangays Del Rosario, Cararayan, San Isidro, Pacol and Carolina-- Naga's traditional agricultural areas. It has an area of 309 hectares. It will be the site of the 105-hectare Naga Agro-Industrial Ecozone, operated by the Pacol Agro-Industrial Corporation with incentives from the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

koltuvtbm March 18th, 2007, 07:22 AM To garzland, congratulations for initiating this new thread! Remarkable start.
Let me hasten to add, though, thread title is rather limiting since Naga City is not just Bicol's Business Capital, but the center for just about anything here in the region. (Naga was just knocked off from being the regional political center despite its obvious advantage because of a Marcos decree enforced to assure viable occupancy of Mayon Imperial Hotel in those dark years.)
Though not been contributing myself, always made it a point to read contributions/ entries here every now and then.
Allow me to take this opportunity to correct recent entries in the last Naga thread. That imposing structure (Aristocrat International Hotel) along Naga river & near "daungan ni Ina" and which now houses Philhealth, a gun & ammo store, appliance store, among others, is slowly being built not because the owner lacks construction funds. The owner is acknowledged as among the local Chinoy tycoons we have and owns the biggest sports apparel manufacturing concern in the country. He can very well afford to finish construction in one shot. The slow pace is more due to a feng shui warning to go slow, otherwise dire consequences on the owner's life and health would ensue.
By the way, if you are in Avenue Square, you will notice a big construction ongoing at the back, near the parking area. That is reportedly a four-star hotel.

sugarboy March 21st, 2007, 01:17 PM Guys, I need your help. Does anyone here live in Magsaysay Street? What Barangay is that located in?
koltuvtbm March 21st, 2007, 02:27 PM @sugarboy Perhaps you mean Magsaysay Avenue, among Naga City's exciting prime residential & commercial places? I live in the place. Our family started real estate development there. Portion of Magsaysay Avenue belongs to Barangay Balatas and portion is part of Concepcion Pequeña. Magsaysay Avenue is sort-of the boundary between these 2 barangays.

garzland March 22nd, 2007, 01:24 PM The regional office of the Commission on Population, in partnership with the Naga City natural Family Planning Council, launched the Responsible Parenting Movement in Bicol last Feb. 21, at Villa Caceres Hotel here.
The activity was followed by a 3-day trainers’ training aimed at enabling the participants, mostly LGU health and POPCOM personnel, to be aware of and appreciate the concepts, issues, and concerns of responsible parenting.
The lecture package talked about presidential directives that encourage every Filipino family to observe three years birth spacing, and breastfeeding, which are good and advantageous on the part of the mother, child, family, and community.
The government has directed DOH, PIOPOCOM, and LGUs to take full responsibility in the implementation of responsible parenthood and natural family planning program.
The training also provided participants important inputs that encouraged them to discuss responsible parenting and natural family planning topics, develop orientation course design for target clients, and obtain additional inputs to come up with an enhanced and effective facilitator’s guide in the implementation of RPM activities.
The Naga City Family Planning Council has been chosen to host the launching of the activities in recognition of its effective and sustainable program implementation on family planning and parenthood.
The council, chaired by Fr. Joey Gonzaga worked hard for the realization of a happy family in every home, which is among the primordial goal of the local government in accord with the dogma of the Catholic Church on responsible parenthood and family planning.

Robredo will welcome the delegates during the opening program at Plaza Quezon on April 13 which will be ushered in by a parade of colors by representatives of each participating region or delegation. The last time that the ILC was held during the same month last year was in Davao City, Naga businessman Macario ‘Boy’ Apin II, Couples for Christ Bicol Area Coordinator, said.
Joe Perez, overall project coordinator, and Jepoy Meneses, YFC head of event, said colorful parades, games, workshops and seminars would highlight the conference.
Engr. Joel Martin of the city’s motorpool who chairs the transport committee with his YFC counterpart said it would require 54 jeepneys and 15 buses to convey the delegates on a daily basis from Metro Naga Sports Complex which is the main venue of the youth conference to their 7 selected public school campuses that serve as their billeting area, and vice versa.
The Naga City transport group led by Pio Samonte of the Naga City People’s Council transport sector, Jun Morano of the CBD II transport terminal and Rafael Duque of Pistton Naga has been coordinating with the organizers to map out a strategic plan to ensure a smooth transport and conveyance system for the duration of the conference.
It is estimated that for transport requirements alone, the organizers would be pouring in a minimum amount of P715,000 for bus and jeepney rentals for three days alone.
Ambulances and mobile clinics under the supervision of City Health Officer Butch Borja would also be set-up at the venue and other strategic points to provide medical support and ensure the safety of the participants.
Lito del Rosario, executive officer of the Public Safety Office, is finalizing a traffic and public safety plan to the youth organizers.
Perez as concurrent head of the Naga City Visitors Center said the windfall that the conference would bring to the city, particularly its food and service industry, could run to at least P20 million where every delegate would spend an average of P500 a day for 3 days. The amount estimated to be expended by each delegate covers 3 meals a day, snacks, intracity transport fares, plus spare cash for pasalubong and other personal expenses for 3 days.

By Henry C. Villalva
THE Philippine men's national basketball team will make occasional appearances in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Fiesta Cup and will be pitted against PBA ball clubs or invited foreign teams by way of tuneup matches. This is part of their buildup for a tough Olympic qualifying event in Japan in July.
This is good news for Negrense PBA fans since this means that the nationals have a chance of playing in Bacolod City since eight out-of-town Fiesta Cup sorties include a May 26 playdate in Bacolod City as announced early last week by the PBA office in Manila.
The other out-of-town games are San Miguel Beer against Coca Cola in Lanao on March 17; Welcoat versus Talk 'N Text on March 24 in Cabanatuan City while Alaska takes on Purefoods on March 31 in Cagayan de Oro City.
Other playdates are April 21 in Tacloban City, May 5 in Urdaneta/Bataan, May 12 in Cebu and May 19 in Naga.

Tourism and investment promotion.
At the same time, we will strengthen our tourism and
investment promotion efforts to invite more people to
visit Naga, and encourage them to invest or spend
their money in availing of the services or investment
opportunities we will make available. These efforts
will focus on the following:
Naga highland development. We will position
Naga as a top health, wellness, recreation and
retirement destination. This effort will focus on the
development of the Pacol-Carolina-Panicuason-San
Isidro triangle as our own version of Tagaytay. We
will add an outer radial link to the existing loop that
terminates in Carolina by developing a Carolina-
Panicuason circumferential road. This will open up
access to the area, consistent with our radialcircumferential
pattern of development, and promote
it as a quality retirement and wellness haven.
Convention city. During the last decade, we
hosted the Palarong Pambansa three times,
maximizing the benefits out of our investments in the
Metro Naga Sports Complex. Come April, we will
have the YFC international youth leadership
congress that will bring in around 10,000 delegates
to Naga. The national convention of the Philippine
Eagles Club will also be held here this year, the
second time we are hosting the same event. The
annual Bicol Business Week of MNCCI will also bring
both regional and national participants come June
this year.
The same opportunity of optimizing use of
government facilities will present itself when we
finally complete the Metro Naga Coliseum –
unfortunately set back by super typhoons Milenyo
and Reming – before the Peñafrancia Fiesta this
September. Together with the ongoing development
of a golf course integrated in the Naga highland
property development projects, the coliseum will
raise our profile and enable us to bid for bigger
events that will help enhance our reputation as a
convention city.
Digital city. Finally, we will position Naga as a
“digital city” anchored on widespread access to
wireless technologies, particularly in the upland areas
we have identified as priority growth centers. This
will enhance our effort to niche on the emerging
sunshine industries like business process
outsourcing, digital animation and medical
transcription.

Sind24 March 31st, 2007, 09:32 AM Robredo: Something fishy
about DPWH city projects
NAGA CITY – Barely a day before he and his party mates were to formally file their certificates of candidacy this Thursday, City Mayor Robredo fired the opening salvo by taking to task the alleged overpriced repainting of road markings along the asphalted Panganiban Avenue and the road leading to Bgy. Carolina.
He disclosed that shortly after the typhoon, workers commissioned by the DPWH were seen hastily applying road surface markings in remote Bgy. Carolina while the city crew and Casureco II linemen were busy restoring fallen electric poles.
Panganiban Avenue, on the other hand, was freshly painted with road markings when after a month asphalt overlaying followed that effectively buried the costly markings into oblivion. When the overlay was done, road remarking or repainting followed. “How much did these projects cost, considering that the same job order (in Panganiban Avenue) was done twice?” Robredo asked.
Both projects were claimed to have been made possible through the efforts of Cong. Villafuerte, as rows of conspicuously installed billboards show.
In an interview with the local media, Robredo said information had reached him that a staggering amount of P10 million may have been allocated for the white paint road markings.
He urged the 2ng Engineering District of Camarines Sur and Cong. Luis R. Villafuerte to tell the people as taxpayers how much was the cost of the project.
“Except for the name of the congressman, obviously for political mileage, no other details have been provided on the billboards announcing the project,” the mayor said.
He explained that per Commission on Audit (COA) rules, the billboard should indicate the cost of the project and the name of the contractor implementing the project.
Billboards with the congressman’s name on it have suddenly sprouted in various parts of the city, even for a small project such as a pathwalk, but which do not indicate the project cost or name of contractor.
Robredo, however, expressed confidence that Naga voters would not be baited blind by cheap gimmicks for their votes as past city elections where no Villafuerte ever won show.
Asked to size up the chances of his poll rival, Jojo Villafuerte for mayorship the second time around, the mayor bluntly replied, “the real foe is not Jojo but Rep. Villafuerte himself.” Aram yan kan mga Nagueño, he added.
Broken promise
Meanwhile, a number of poor students and residents have expressed dismay over the alleged promises made to them by Rep. Villafeurte during the 2004 elections.
Thirty homeless families in Zones 2 and 7 in Bgy. Abella, this city, claimed that sometime in the heat of the local elections three years ago, then congressional candidate Luis R. Villafuerte allegedly promised to give them free lots in Bgy. Del Rosario.
They said they had already spent time and money for papers in preparation for their supposed relocation but nothing has materialized.
The same promise, according them, was also made to an even larger number of homeless residents in Bgy Sta. Cruz, but to no avail.
Three years later, the poor residents are still cramped in their dilapidated shanties squatting unsteadily on someone else’s lands.
They vowed never to be glib-tongued again.
Elementary and high school students in Bgys Sta. Cruz and Sabang told the Bicol Mail that Congressman Villafuerte had promised to shoulder their school fees in the amount of P599 each, but of the 81 would-be cash assistance recipients, some 53 of them had already graduated or are graduating without seeing the money.
The promised unreleased amount should have totaled P30,000, it was learned.

The projects have been implemented with PHILSSA-COPE as NGO partners.
During a luncheon meeting, Me Ann of PHILSSA will introduce the Naga City JDS Slum Upgrading Program after a briefing by Mayor Robredo about Naga’s pro-poor programs.
A dialogue with representatives of the various sectors of the community will ensue before a tour of the project sites to be led by the city mayor and other local city officials led by vice mayor Gabby Bordado.
The whole WB entourage, along with DSWD Secretary Cabral, will then proceed to Legazpi City for a meeting on Bicol Post-Disaster Reconstruction Program that the World Bank is fully supporting, Joe Perez of the Naga City Visitors Center, which is coordinating the visit, said.

garzland April 5th, 2007, 04:12 AM City Mayor Jesse M. Robredo and the city’s local officialdom will warmly welcome some 8,500 delegates and participants from all over the country and abroad when the 14th International Youth Conference of the Youth for Christ formally opens on Friday next week, April 13, at the Metro Naga Sports Complex.
Top national officials from Couples for Christ and Gawad Kalinga have been invited to grace the opening rites and the conference proper.
Youth for Christ is the youth ministry of the Couples for Christ (CFC). The city government has spruced up the typhoon-damaged sports complex which shall be the main venue of the exciting big event, including other venues, such as the Ateneo de Naga High School campus in Bgy Pacol, and 12 other public schools which would serve as the delegates’ billeting centers for the 3-day youth extravaganza. The event will show how much the youth can be an embodiment of hope, light and life for the whole world, Jepoy Meneses, YFC event head, said.
Activities will include booths showcasing the best of what the youth can offer, creative competitions like band, dance and pop-capella, and sports competitions such as basketball, badminton and cheering. Also included are production numbers in variety shows and a huge party with homegrown bands.
Joe Perez of the Naga City Visitors Center who was designated project coordinator representing the city government said all aspects of the conference involving accommodation, transport and traffic, conference grounds maintenance and mobilization, medical assistance, waste management, communication support, and light and water supply have been tackled and covered preparatory to the big event whose scope, energy, dynamism and fun will take place in this city for three days and three nights.

Sind24 April 5th, 2007, 11:08 AM NAGA CITY – As expected, city mayoral challenger Jojo Villafuerte (KAMPI) the other day filed a petition to disqualify re-electionist Mayor Jesse Robredo (Liberal Party-Drilon wing) from the race whom the former accused of being a Chinese citizen and for “falsely representing himself (Robredo) as a natural born citizen”.
A copy of the petition was received by the Office of the City Mayor at about 4:25 p.m. of Tuesday, April 3, 2007.
When interviewed, Robredo said the petition filed re-enforced his wise decision to allow his wife, lawyer Leni Gerona-Robredo, to file her certificate of candidacy for the same post as a strategic move to deny their opponents’ malicious design to wrest power outside of the electoral process.
Robredo said that the move, which was no longer original as it would have been the fourth attempt to question his citizenship every time there is an election, is the highest form of harassment, especially by the Villafuerte camp that claims to be very close to Malacañang.
Jojo’s uncle, Rep. Luis R. Villafuerte, is the chair of the Kapisanan ng Mamamayang Pilipino (KAMPI) and a staunch supporter of the Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Robredo said that should he be disqualified by foul means, his wife Leni would lead the slate to another overwhelming victory.
In his petition, Jojo Villafuerte pointed out that the principla issue raised against Mayor Robredo is that his father, Jose Lim Robredo, being a Chinese national, while his mother is a Filipino citizen, Jesse Robredo “deliberately” did not elect Filipino citizenship upon reaching the age of majority “because of his (Robredo’s) false, fraudulent and material representation that his father was a Filipino citizen.”
Unfazed by Jojo’s arguments, Robredo expressed optimism that conspirators working for his disqualification would fail the next time around because the truth is on his side.
He recalled that in an earlier decision on the petition filed by a Villafuerte ally, former city councilor Rodolfo Fortuno, the Commission on Elections without reservation declared Robredo a Filipino citizen.
The order which denied Fortuno’s petition clearly noted that respondent Robredo was born and raised in Naga City and that he continuously resided in the Philippines and never registered as an alien.
To further buttress its argument that Robredo is beyond doubt a Filipino citizen, Comelec stated that there are two ways to elect Philippine citizenship in the case that parents or one of the parents are not natural-born Filipinos or Filipino citizens. One is thorugh the exercise of the right of suffrage and participation in election process which is a recognized mode of implied election.
The Supreme Court further expanded implied election to include not only the right of suffrage but also the practice of a profession open only to Filipinos, serving in public office where citizenship is a qualification, voting during election time, running for public office and other categorical acts.

Sind24 April 5th, 2007, 11:09 AM Bicolanos to miss RP’s first
bus company landmarks
By Romeo Olea
IRIGA CITY – “It is their prerogative to sell it; we have no right to interfere with their decision.”
This was the terse statement of City Mayor Madelaine Alfelor-Gazmen during an interview with local newsmen referring to reports that Philtranco Services Enterprises Inc. (PSEI) has decided to dispose of its real properties in different parts of Bicol and Southern Tagalog.
The properties which have been used as transport terminals are located in Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Albay, Sorsogon and Quezon provinces. The 24,301 Sq.m. Iriga Terminal which has a value of P8,000 per sq.m. is also up for sale.
Alfelor-Gazmen disclosed that the City Government has been providing financial assistance to Philtranco management to help them augment their expenses in maintaining the terminal.
The mayor said the City government even planned to purchase the property to preserve it as a historical landmark “but we are not financially capable of doing that,” she lamented.
The country’s first bus company had its beginning here when in 1914, a former American serviceman, Albert L. Ammen, converted a two-cylinder Graw-Bosky truck into a passenger bus.
This became the forerunner of the present Philtrancom fleet of buses which established Iriga as the birthplace of the country’s bus transportation industry.
Ammen’s driver, Max L. Blouse, would also set up the BLTB four years later in Batangas.
Today, the structures inside the Iriga Terminal are either overused or dilapidated and are more likely to be reduced to rubbles should another Milenyo or Reming strikes.

My advice ...Better you read from the start ..from the previous page 4
garzland April 6th, 2007, 03:17 AM Over the years, people empowerment and access to basic services has characterized the CSO engagement of the state, whether in the national or local levels. In the Philippines, the enactment of the Local Government Code in 1991 placed more powers in the hands of the Local Government Units while at the same time providing for avenues wherein the people can directly participate in governance.
In the city of Naga, the organized groups welcomed this development as an opportunity to institute reforms in the local government structure. Thus, after years of discussion, meetings and consultations, the City Government enacted City Ordinance No. 95-092, “An Ordinance Initiating a System for Partnership in Local Governance between the City Government and the People of Naga” otherwise known as the Empowerment Ordinance of Naga City.
The ordinance widened the areas for people participation and bestowed powers upon the people’s council to send representatives to all government committee, councils, boards and task forces and there participate in the deliberation, conceptualization and implementation and evaluation of government projects and activities. The people’s council may also propose legislation and participate and vote at the committee level of the local legislative council.
These provisions for direct people’ participation was maximized by the Naga City People’s Council (which was recognized by the Sangguniang Panlungsod as the people’s council referred to in Section 8 of the Empowerment Ordinance) to bring about reforms and to make service delivery more responsive to the needs of the people.
NCPC worked hard to make both the people and the government ready for partnership. While implementing capability-building programs for its members, NCPC also reachedout to the local officials in order for them to appreciate people’s participation in governance.
Representatives from the different sectors were mobilized in 2001 for the NCPC Sectoral Congress where the where the different sectors identified their development agenda in pursuit of each sector’s vision.
Alongside the partnership, NCPC maintained its role as a critic of the government in issues that it finds detrimental to the cause of the CSOs. The promotion of the agenda of the sectors were done within and outside of formal avenues offered by the government bodies.
The engagement of NCPC in partnership with the city government institutionalized people’s participation in the governance affairs of the city. More than the mandated partnership under the Empowerment Ordinance, both NCPC and the city government maximized the opportunities available for participation.
NCPC’s experience in partnering with the city government provides important insights for civil society groups and local government units. While the experience of NCPC may not serve as an exact blueprint in moving towards and making the partnership work for both partners, it however introduces the systems and processes that needs to be in placed to make the partnership work. It also shows that engaging the government in a partnership undertaking uses less of CSOs energies and resources and, at times, yields better result than traditional modes of engagement. For local governments, enjoining people’s participation facilitates dentification and implementation of client-focused and demand-driven services.

cool down:lol:
Yes, villafuerte or even one from his family never got a chance to hold on the position as mayor in naga but his brother, Mariano Villafuerte Jr. became the vice mayor for some time and even resigned to run for city mayor. Even so, Mariano Villafuerte, his father, had been a congressman and governor of cam sur. During the Marcos time Villafuerte had been very influential in the province. The villafuertes were threatened when Roco appered. The villafuertes needed someone who could win the position of mayor so they had robredo. It may still be considered part of the villafuerte political dynasty because luis is robredo's uncle. Robredo has been a good mayor because he is doing his job in his own. When disagreements started between villafuerte and robredo, villafuerte soon started accusing robredo everytime robredo runs for mayor but naturally villafuerte fails.

who are the mayoralty candidates apart from robredo and the challenger, villafuerte?
Jojo Villafuerte, another relative, is Robredo's rival this coming elections. Jojo had rovaled Jesse lots of times in the past but had never won. Iba kasi ang ugali niya, and the people knows it.

kevinb April 6th, 2007, 09:59 AM Arroyo son Dato is up against 'Bicolano pride'
MANILA, Philippines -- A wall of supporters surrounded Sabas "Abang" Mabulo as soon as he alighted from his motorcycle for a campaign sortie in Camarines Sur, his home province, three days ago.
Oblivious to the searing afternoon heat, they walked him to a luncheon meeting with local officials and, later, accompanied him on a five-kilometer trek that took them to the most obscure corners of Barangay Tambo.
Taken as a whole, these places have only around 500 voters, many of whom stood in rice fields during Mabulo's visit. The outgoing mayor of San Fernando town didn't mind. His supporters didn't, either.
Joining him on that arduous trip was the least they could do for someone who dared to go against a seemingly unbeatable foe.
Mabulo, 47, is contesting the province's first congressional district against no less than Diosdado "Dato" Arroyo, the younger son of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
"It's about the natural Bicolano pride," the mayor told the Philippine Daily Inquirer Wednesday. "We can't allow ourselves to be represented in Congress by someone who's not a Bicolano."
This pretty much is Mabulo's political battle cry. If the congressional district were private property, his supporters would have probably put up a sign, "No outsiders allowed," referring to Arroyo who grew up in La Vista, an upscale subdivision in Quezon City and whose mother's home province is Pampanga.
"Come to think of it, he should be running in Pampanga," said Cezar Belangel, Mabulo's longtime friend and a member of his campaign team. "But probably because they already control Pampanga, they're now trying Bicol."
Metaphors aplenty
Metaphors were aplenty in describing the Mabulo-Arroyo political tussle: David vs Goliath, a sheep against a pack of wolves, a car ramming against a wall, a person inexplicably hitting himself in the head. Even Mabulo once described the battle as "risky and unthinkable."
Arroyo's candidacy is the result of the unusual alliance between the top political clans in the province -- the Villafuertes, Andayas and Alfelors.
Drawing even more curiosity is the fact that Budget Secretary Rolando Andaya Jr., widely expected to run for his old congressional seat, has given way to the young Arroyo, a political neophyte.
Insult
"It's like the position is being rented by Dato in the meantime," Belangel said in an interview Tuesday evening. "The idea of an outsider running for Congress is a big insult to Bicolanos. Many are dismayed by this apparent power grab."
Assuming that it's the grass-roots sentiment, this is not reflected among top local officials whose support is key to an aspiring congressman's victory.
But Mabulo said virtually all 10 town mayors in the first congressional district were behind Arroyo's candidacy.
So were many barangay (village) officials who had supposedly received P50,000 each about a month ago for their respective projects, he said.
In his case, Mabulo is fielding mayoral candidates only in the towns of San Fernando, Del Gallego and Pasacao.
Army captain
His younger brother Fermin, an Army captain who had joined the Magdalo mutiny, is seeking to replace him in San Fernando.
Mabulo has only 10 candidates for councilor and no one for vice mayor.
Despite a lineup that pales in comparison to Arroyo's, it's already an achievement of sorts for Mabulo, who is running supposedly on a P200,000 campaign budget, so far. Of the amount, he said P150,000 had been donated.
Personal touch
The financial constraints partly explained why his campaign had been focusing on the "personal," in going "house to house," from one town to another. It's not so much to introduce himself as a candidate for congressman, but to visit constituents with whom he had developed personal ties through the years.
Moral high ground
Many of these bonds were developed much earlier than 1995 when he was first elected councilor. People knew him from way back, as a college boy from Ateneo de Naga University, an active social worker at the Archdiocese of Caceres, and later as executive director of the Pag-Asang Bicolnon Foundation.
"As far as grass-roots support is concerned, Abang has the advantage. He also has the moral high ground," Belangel said. "But Dato has the clear advantage in money. So whatever we do, we will be defeated in terms of political machinery."
Mabulo is relying on the support of key sectors such as church groups, non-government organizations, business and the academe. These same groups have convinced him to run against the "outsider" Arroyo.
Good fight
"I constantly remind myself that they may have the finest arms, the support of the strongest political party, abundant source of resources," he wrote in an article, " I am confident that I will give them a good fight because of the countless [people] who are sick of the kind of politics represented by Dato's candidacy."
But lest he's dismissed for harping solely on his Bicolano advantage, the mayor said voters should also look into what he could offer should he land a seat in the House of Representatives.
"I always tell people not to vote for me just because they don't want a non-Bicolano in Dato," he said. "They should know me first and what I can do for them."
[B]Platform
His platform is focused on enterprise and livelihood development, agricultural productivity, equitable access to natural resources, and health.
In developing his district's "fertile but idle land," for instance, he said farmers needed a "synergistic approach to agricultural development, where every project or program complements and reinforces each other, thereby expanding the effectiveness of such program exponentially."
Three-term mayor
He noted that during his term as San Fernando mayor for three consecutive terms, savings were used to buy farm implements that were given for free to farmers and residents who put up fishponds.
"We assisted them in starting their agriculture business," he said in a two-page legislative agenda.
"Hand in hand with this program, the people of our town assisted the local government build farm-to-market roads to help them bring their produce to the market," Mabulo said.

kevinb April 6th, 2007, 10:04 AM GMA Network sets prov’l expansion
By JAMES A. LOYOLA
GMA Network is spending P170 million to continue its expansion projects in the regions in its drive to gain supremacy in other parts of the country as it continues to dominate ratings in Metro Manila.
With GMA’s signal now vastly improved in major cities like Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Baguio, Dagupan, and Bacolod, the company is now focusing on its other regional expansion projects aimed at improving its signal and program distribution capabilities in other key areas.
Cagayan De Oro (CDO), General Santos City, Batangas Province and Legaspi City will all be covered by new transmitter facilities while Naga City will be the site of a new originating station and transmitter.
GMA Network EVP and Chief Operating Officer Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. expects that the major improvements being done to vastly improve GMA’s viewership in the regions.
"With these regional expansion projects already in progress, every household in the country, including those in remote areas can now look forward to a more enjoyable viewing experience of their favorite Kapuso programs. With our programs now more accessible, we expect the regional ratings to increase significantly," Duavit said.
The GMA transmitter facility in Mt. Sto. Tomas, Benguet, was completed last January. The said transmitter site, which underwent a very comprehensive upgrade, services La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, and Pampanga.

Jueteng war behind top cop’s ‘ouster’?
By: Melvin Casas
JUETENG is more than a form of entertainment involving numbers. It is an evil game played by unseen players who would not hesitate to destroy anybody who block their path.
A top cop in Bicol blamed jueteng as behind allegedly efforts to remove him from his post.
Chief Supt. Ricardo Padilla expressed belief that his impending removal from the PNP Region 5 directorship was the result of the jueteng scandal in Bicol as well as the worsening brouhaha involving two members of a powerful political clan in the region.
However, Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Villafuerte and his son, Camarines Sur Gov. Luis Raymond Villafuerte, denied the allegations, saying the alleged anomaly is “all part of a dirty tactic to ruin their name in the province.”
Rep. Villafuerte said the issue on jueteng was not properly tackled.
Padilla, in an expose published in a national daily, said the worsening feud between the Villafuertes has threatened to cut short his stint as provincial director. His impending relief is believed an offshoot of relentless operations by Camarines Sur police director Senior Supt. Romeo Mapalo against the illegal numbers game. He will reportedly be replaced by Chief Supt. Val Tira of the PMA Class ’78, supposedly hand picked by the elder Villafuerte.
An alleged whistleblower, identified only as Bong, revealed in an interview that a police general from the region and a colonel from Camp Crame are behind jueteng operations in Bicol, including the Southern Police District which covers Parañaque, Taguig, Pasay, Las Piñas and Alabang. A recent expose tried to link the Villafuertes to jueteng, which father and son have vehemently denied.
Bong said the police general and his cohort from Camp Crame fabricated the supposed scam against the Villafuertes in order to gain control of jueteng operations in the region.
The whistle-blower said the general-colonel tandem, a certain Trinidad and Elmer, planned the takeover of jueteng operations in Bicol.
Seeing the Villafuertes as a hindrance, the duo’s camp reportedly launched a smear campaign against them.
The Villafuerte have been erroneously reported to be feuding over jueteng operations.
This is not true, the Villafuertes have stressed. People’s Tonight gathered the their rift started when the younger Villafuerte fired from the municipal hall a long-time friend and trusted employee of the elder Villafuerte. The said employee died reportedly after he was terminated from the service.

^^ So, ibig sabihin pala 'tol Highly Urbanized na talaga yung Naga based on the award gained by the city along with Lucena....
^^ good for Naga ...heres some part of article:
"We will continue with our work despite of our campaign and this award gives honor and pride to the city. We thank the DILG and the PCL for recognizing our efforts. It is however the people who are the best judge of our work," she said.
Councilor Rudy Lim received the award during the awarding ceremony held in Cebu City.
Cebu City got the First Place while Zamboanga city placed second. Other awardees were: Naga, third place; Baguio, fourth; General Santos, sixth; Mandaluyong, seventh; Lucena, eight; Dagupan, ninth; Davao, tenth; Butuan, eleventh; and Iligan, twelfth.
pero magulo ang ranking kaya inedit ko yung sa Lucena thread heres the original...
Here's a response to that. :)
SP bags 2nd place in 2006 national local legislative award
THE City Council under the leadership of Vice Mayor Beng Climaco was adjudged as second place in the just concluded 2006 Local Legislative Award in the Highly Urbanized City (HUC) category nationwide.
A yearly undertaking, the Local Legislative Award is initiated by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) in coordination with the Philippine Councilors' League (PCL) that bestows honors on legislative bodies based on their accomplishments during the year.
"We dedicate this award to the people of Zamboanga and we give all the glory to God who has made it possible for us to reach this accomplishment," Climaco, who is running for Congress in the 1st congressional district, said.
In the regional selection, the Zamboanga City Council ranked first.
Climaco acknowledged the efforts of the City Council staff led by City Secretary Zenaida Jayme and the 2004-2007 Batch of City Councilors, as the contributory factors for this latest achievement.
She stressed that it is a great honor for Zamboanga City to be chosen as the top two local government units for the outstanding City Council selection.
The Climaco-led City Council has passed 109 ordinances and over 2, 000 resolutions since the start of its term in July 1, 2004 to present. These ordinances and legislative measures were based on research work, consultations with the people concerned and close link between the executive and the legislative departments.
Among the important ordinances approved by the City Council are the Zoning law, the Children's Welfare Code, the law creating the multi-sectoral AIDS Council, the ordinance establishing public cemeteries in the different districts of Zamboanga, the Executive Budgets for 2005, 2006 and 2007 and the City Government Plantilla Ordinance and many others.
Vice Mayor Climaco said the legislative body will continue to perform its duties and responsibilities despite the hectic campaign schedule of most of the members who are either seeking higher positions or re-election. "We will continue to do so despite of our campaign but this recognition gives honor and pride to the city and we thank the selection committee for recognizing the efforts of the Zamboanga City Council."
The awarding ceremony was recently done in Cebu City, and Councilor Rudy Lim received the citation in behalf of the City Council. Cebu City got the highest award. Zamboanga City bested other highly urbanized or independent component cities such as Naga (3rd), Baguio (4th), Bacolod (5th), General Santos (6th), Mandaluyong (7th), Lucena (8th), Dagupan (9), Davao (10th), Butuan (11th) and Iligan (12th).
The 2006 Local Legislative Award covered also the component cities category, 4th-6th class municipalities' category and the 1st-3rd class municipalities' category.(SE)

BOLOFER'S Eatery, one of our favorite Kinalas Eatery were totally destroyed by the fire maybe around 5 am to 6 am this morning April 10. The dept. of fire and the Pilipino-chinese fireman had controlled the fire after 6am.
At least the NagaLand Hotel, Ravanera's commercial building, Petshop and a Car wash was spared by the fire, due to their very tall firewall and early intervention of the fireman.
The fire started at the said Rest O Bar, the Bu. of Fire are still investigating what and where it really started. but no one is hurt in that catastrophe

kevinb April 12th, 2007, 10:30 AM Jordan town bags 2006 presidential award for child-friendly municipality
Cebu City (12 April) -- Jordan, Guimaras adjudged as Most Child-Friendly Municipality in the 1st to 3rd Class Category due to its steadfast commitment and unrelenting efforts to protect and uphold the inherent rights of children.
Jordan mayor Felipe Nava said, the town gives priority attention to children with the barangay officials and the community achieving a 100% Fully Immunization of children; 90% exclusive breastfeeding and 96% salt iodization. Jordan became one of the first LGUs in the country to introduce and integrate social health insurance.
With this program, the town was awarded as one of the Top Ten Municipalities for "Social health Insurance Advocate," Best LGU in the Implementation of Adolescent Reproductive Sexual health in region 6; One of the Outstanding LGUs in Western Visayas on Early Child Development, Food Fortification, LCE with Outstanding Program of MDG Localization; and the Most Supportive Municipality in the Implementation of "Kapag Maliit and Pamilya, Kayang-Kaya," a population management strategy.
In its entry briefer, it was evident that Jordan's Barangay Council for the Protection of Children (BCPC) and its Barangay Nutrition Council (BNC) are fully functional and the municipality has proven its mainstreaming the four gifts for children in its governance-State of the Children's Report; Local development and Investment Plan for Children; Kabataan Knowledge Center and the Local Code for Children.
New Lucena, Iloilo as the Most Child-Friendly Municipality for the 4th to 6th Class category. New Lucena is an agricultural town with 21 barangays and a population of 20,344, 37.38% or 7,604 of which are children.
New Lucena Mayor June Mondejar attributed this recognition to the programs that guarantee survival rights of children through its widespread Operation Birth Right program and its own local search for most nutritionally improved barangay and schools and the search for the cleanest and greenest barangay, schools, parking areas and municipal streets.
Mondejar said, the town has established 23 day care centers that are fully equipped with TV sets and playground facilities. It has also recorded an 85% participation rate of 3-5 year old day care children and an alternative education program for the out-of-school youths such as welding, bamboo craft making, paper making and house wiring were provided to secure their development.
The town has also institutionalized the 4 gifts for children. Mondejar was proud to say that several resolutions and ordinances had been passed to promote children's welfare and protection such as milk code; breastfeeding; setting a curfew for minors; prohibition of children from playing video games and billiards during class hours among others.
Naga City as the Most Child-Friendly City for the Highly-Urbanized and Chartered City Category. Naga City is rich in history with its deep socio cultural background. According to Naga City Mayor Jesse Robledo, Naga's desire to be a child-friendly city became a commitment.
It became famous for the many innovations. The town has earned 140 regional, national and international awards that included a 2004 First-Runner Up Child-Friendly City and Six-Time recipient of the Nutrition Honor Award for ensuring lowest malnutrition rate among its children.
According to an award briefer, Naga City out-performed other cities in building a child-friendly city through its innovative programs. It established a comprehensive pre-school education program and made the School Board more effective for quality public education through administrative and organizational reforms.
Other than improving the quality of public education, Naga also made the young people exercise their right to participation. Through its Computer Literacy and Instructional center for Kids, the access to information technology has prepared the youth to be globally competitive.
Other cities and towns that have made it to the finals include; (a) Bangued, Abra; Dumaguete City ; and Maitum, Sarangani-as Finalists to the 1st-3rd Class Category; (b) Bauko, Mt. Province; and Malitbog, Bukidnon as Finalists to the 4th-6th Class Category and Bacolod City as Finalist to the Highly-Urbanized City/Independent Component City category.
Lastly, the RSCWC in the region hopes that a municipality or city from central Visayas will emerge as a national winner for the 2007 Search. (PIA-Cebu)

kevinb April 12th, 2007, 10:35 AM GMA Network embarks on P170M expansion program
AFTER consistently dominating the ratings game in Mega Manila and vastly improving its signal in major cities like Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Baguio, Dagupan and Bacolod, GMA now focuses on its other regional expansion projects aimed at improving its signal and program distribution capabilities in other key areas.
GMA Network is spending P170 million for these projects, some of which have already been completed.
Pinoy Votes: Sun.Star Election 2007 Coverage
GMA's transmitter facilities in Mt. Sto. Tomas, Benguet, was completed last January. As a result of the very comprehensive upgrade on the transmitter site, more homes in La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, and Pampanga now experience a far clearer GMA signal.
And just in time for the upcoming April 15 fight of Manny Pacquiao and Jorge Solis, GMA's transmitter tower in Cagayan de Oro has been fully erected with the antenna system now also in place.
GMA's relay station in General Santos City was commissioned last month. The GenSan station is now powered by a five-kilowatt full antenna system. In July, the transmitter will be upgraded to ten-kilowatts.
Batangas and neighboring provinces will also get a vastly improved GMA signal once the upgrading of the GMA relay site in Mt. Banoy is completed.
Two projects for the viewer rich Bicol region have already started.
Preparations for the construction of a new tower in Naga are underway. The new Naga signal upgrade and transmitter project is set to be completed in July with the commissioning of a new originating station in the city scheduled for within the year. The tower and antenna system in Legaspi City will also be upgraded.
GMA's Iloilo TV studio is now being constructed and is expected to be completed by June.
Construction of the Network's studio complex in Davao and Dagupan, on the other hand, will start this month and are expected to be finished by October.
Currently, GMA airs locally produced news and entertainment programs in Cebu, Iloilo, and Davao. More viewers trust GMA's regional primetime news programs in the said areas and the Network's regional entertainment shows are well followed as well.
GMA Network EVP and Chief Operating Officer Gilberto R. Duavit Jr. expects that the major improvements being done will vastly improve GMA's viewership in the regions.
"With these regional expansion projects already in progress, every household in the country, including those in remote areas can now look forward to a more enjoyable viewing experience of their favorite Kapuso programs. With our programs now more accessible, we expect the regional ratings to increase significantly," Duavit said.
GMA Network is also building two state-of-the-art studios within its compound in Quezon City. The new studio complex, which will house the most modern studio equipment and facilities, costs around P1 billion.
GMA Network remains to be the leading TV station in Mega Manila based on AGB Nielsen total day ratings data from March 4 to 17, 2007. For the said period, GMA Network posted an average total day rating of 17.3 percent against ABS-CBN's 14.7 percent.
Mega Manila, where GMA Network leads in TV ratings, comprises 51 percent of the total number of TV households in urban areas in the country, based on data from TNS. The whole of Luzon, including Mega Manila, comprises 74 percent. The remaining 26 percent is distributed to other urban areas in the Philippines.

Yap, you're right and that's Mabolo...Magsaysay is an avenue pala hehehe sorry... Maybe MacMariano is part of Tinago or Dayangdang.. I just don't know exactly...
garzland April 13th, 2007, 06:32 AM To garzland, congratulations for initiating this new thread!
Thanks! I just read this post this day sorry.... That's a nice iinfo... Another hotel, a four-star hotel in particular, to rise in the city? That would be good! Tourists are flocking in the city and this is the time to build more to accomodate them....

kevinb April 14th, 2007, 04:52 AM ^^ I actually don't know the extent of the damage.
garzland April 14th, 2007, 04:54 AM Thanks!
That's a sad news... Sayang nung isang araw na benta...
kevinb April 14th, 2007, 04:59 AM ^^ Hindi naman sila nag-close nang buong araw. Half-day lang. At 1PM, nag-open ulit sila.
garzland April 14th, 2007, 05:02 AM ^^ Ah ok.. 'Kala ko whole day... Naglinis pala... Di ba newly painted yung LCC.. Iniba nila yung logo nila na dating parang SM ngayon parang sa cartoons hehehe...
garzland April 14th, 2007, 05:11 AM I just heard over the RMN radio that the groundbreaking of SM Naga will be on April 28, 2007... Can't wait....
bobbymay74 April 14th, 2007, 07:11 AM Nilipat na ung mga awards ng Naga sa Raul S. Roco Library. Ung whole first level, may malaking built-in trophy cabinet. Andun lahat.
Renovation of LCC? Saan mo narinig un? Exciting naman. Hehe
Wow, that's practical for LCC, than looking for places inside the CBD I or II, na very expensive ang rental nang commerical building in those areas.
It's much practical na mag expand na lang ang LCC and make it very beautiful architectural design, which i know the Tan family like it very much to change the design from time to time.I have a confidence that LCC is positive sa competition with SM in the future. I truly admired Romy Tan ( Regional Head of LCC company) for this decision.I know Romy always embraces new ideas specially when it comes to Organizational and Marketing management
Wala na ung Robertson sa Legazpi. Sabi daw nag-close ng pumasok ang PM.
I see, Thanks for the information. I know Robertson originated in Legaspi before they started here in Naga, but i have no doubt they make a very good decision to transfer here in Naga, which make them very very wealthy. Robertson Dept. employed more staff from Albay too, "well thats good".. the sphere of Influence of Naga comes much farther to all provinces. :)
Eh di marami kang nakitang yummy na foreigner? Last April 1o pumunta kami dun. Putek! Naglaway ako.
L-Ray Villafuerte's Project is really successful, it is the Metro Naga businesses that has benefited much of Cam. Sur tourism, specially the Hotel, retail and service business and more here in Naga. In return Naga offer more jobs, public services to all people here and Cam Sur
Metro Naga and Cam Sur. Government work hand in hand continously.. we will be more richer than any provinces and cities in the whole Bicol region
.
I actually have no idea.
I've been at Ave. Square but I didn't notice any construction going on at the back of the center. Meron ba talaga?
SIZE="3"]Yeah, that's true the Hotel construction is been done AT THE BACK of Ave. Square, you can see it. I just learn from you that it is a four level building. That's cool. :) [/SIZE]
garzland April 14th, 2007, 01:05 PM I passed by Magsaysay this afternoon and I've seen the hotel being constructed at the back of Avenue Square, the workers are already working on the 4th floor...

Your Welcome Eric, it's our pleasure to be part of your "accidental itinerary i would say".
my idea is really to pick you up sa terminal, then pass to;
First Stage: (less than an hour, maybe 30 mins)
1. Historical San Francisco Church
2. the Quince Martirez Plaza (spanish designed plaza)
3. the leaning Building of Naga..
malalapit rin sila within that area, sa may CBD I
Second Stage: (less than an hour, 30-40 mins.)
4. Metropolitan Cathedral
5. Holy Rosary Minor Seminary( Seminario De Santissimo Rosario) a century old seminary.
6. Archbishop Palace
7. Universidad de Sta. isabel (first normal school of the Phils. founded 1611)
8. Ateneo De Naga University- famous Four Pillars.
this establishment is as near each other, kaya hindi na tayo lalayo., just within the Church vicinity.
Third stage (less than an hour 15-20 mins.)
7. Old Penafrancia Church then to the Basilica Minore of Penafrancia
Fourth stage ( less than an hour:15 mins.)
8. kung may time pa baka puede pa natin e habol ang beautiful Milaor Church
Fourth stage:
9. CWC ( actually it's outside the city, but not that far)
I promise you, it will not take you too long to take pictures in this famous site, pretty sure you can go back to legaspi at no time
If you have another date to visit Naga, we can go to many places here.. I understand your in tight schedule as of now.
Seen your website, very nice:)
KEVIN join us PLEASE..., i will be excepting you tomorrow.. please come

Syempre I'd like to tour Eric around the city. BTW, CWC is just around 20-30-minute ride from Naga. HELLO EVERYBODY,
WE JUST FINISHED AN ADVENTUROUS DAY. WITH ERIC, KEVIN AND MYSELF. ERIC HAD TAKEN LOTS OF PICTURES FOR METRO NAGA.
AS KEVIN SAID, VISITED MORE THAN WE EXPECTED, EVEN AS FAR AS SAN FRANCISCO VILLAGE IN PACOL.
KEVIN, MARLON, GARZLAND, SIND24, kOLTUVTBM AND OTHER MEMBERS THAT I DIDN'T MENTION HERE IN SSC METRO NAGA.
WHY DON'T WE MEET PERSONALLY AND MAYBE WE CAN DISCUSS LITTLE THINGS, THAT WILL BE ACHIEVABLE FOR THE SSC METRO-NAGA. JUST AS ERIC TOLD US THAT SSC-CEBU MEMBER ARE AS ACTIVE ON MEETING EACH OTHER IN THEIR LOCALITY.

It's in Balatas. MacMariano Village is the subdivision after the Basilica Grounds.
The correct name is Mariano Village Subdivision (MVS), among the oldest subdivisions in the city and certainly continues to be among its prime residential and commercial places.
MVS is neither in barangays Tinago or Dayangdang. With respect to kevinb's rejoinder, MVS is also not wholly located in Barangay Balatas.
MVS' central location is in the intersection of Magsaysay Avenue & Kayanga Street where you find Cody's Magsaysay-Canacu Bldg., Britanico Apartments & Commercial Bldg., Sampaguita townhomes, and a new construction that is envisioned to be like Avenue Square but this time pang-masa.
From this central location, if you stand in the middle of Magsaysay Avenue and proceed towards Avenue Square, to your right is portion of MVS that is in Barangay Balatas, while to your left is portion of MVS that is in Concepcion Pequeña.

Hope this year our SSC metro-naga group will have a get together and meet you pagdating mo ulit..
Hintay ko mga pics mo in your website or sa SSC -bicol.

Eric, ang dapat tawag saiyo Kuratscha.. ang lalaki tourista walang pahinga..
I understand, "adapted or used to" kana sa night shift job.
Eric and Kevin,
I remember noon nag punta tayo sa Holy Rosary Major Seminary, doon malapit sa chapel, and we discuss about the Roman Number. I remember that Archbishop Leonardo Z. Legaspi, OP was assigned last 1984 in this Archdiocese, the roman number should be "1984" based on the Coat of Arms, not what i thought it's 1951 which the Archdiocese of Caceres was installed
It should be MCMLXXXIV

Hi Sugarboy,
Well, IF you see the map that you have posted? the red word MAGSAYSAY Ave is a long road. The word NARRA and MOLAVE St. which is very visible in your upper right of your Map.. see it??
Those areas are occupied by mostly a well known family here in Naga, like for example the owner of Graceland, so the type of house are mixed 80's bungalo design houses and many big ones(contemporary). but if you go further inside and beyond Molave st. it is mostly from average or lower income group of families, meroon na hut type and maraming concrete houses din.
So most of the type of houses inside Mariano Subv. are contemporaries and mixed with the 80's design houses.

Sind24 April 20th, 2007, 01:55 PM Groundbreaking rites set
for first SM mall in Bicol
NAGA CITY -– The much-awaited first multi-million SM Shopping Mall in Bicol will soon rise with the formal groundbreaking rites scheduled on Saturday next week (April 28) at the new central business district here.
SM President Anne S. Garcia and her entourage of top officers last Wednesday (April 18) paid a courtesy call on City Mayor Jesse M. Robredo at the latter’s office at city hall here to announce the date of the groundbreaking ceremonies.
With Garcia were Vice President Cecilia R. Patricio of the Corporate Tax Division of SM, and SM Executive Vice President Jeffrey C. Lim. They were accompanied by Reuel Oliver, executive director of the Naga City Investment Board and Naga businessman and hotel owner Romeo Tan, who owns the property on which the giant mall will rise.
The site is a 5 hectare expanse adjacent to the Naga City integrated bus terminal. It is bounded on the south by St. Joseph School and the railroad line on the eastern site. On the northern portion is the proposed Metro Naga Coliseum which is undergoing construction completion
The groundbreaking rites were announced upon completion of soil testing and demolition of the satellite market and temporary jeepney terminal within the Tan property who reportedly leased it to the Shoemart management for a definite period.
The coming of the SM Mall in Naga City, and for that matter the Bicol Region, has been largely anticipated by both consumers and local business establishments which prompted city hall officials to caution its impact on local traders, especially those based in the old business district.
A CBD 1 renewal and beautification program has been mulled, in coordination with the Metro Naga Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other stakeholders, to preserve and protect the old centro’s dynamism in terms of trade and commerce, in the light of the anticipated the entry of more giant Manila-based firms that have shown interest to expand their businesses in the city and its environs.
Based on latest report, it is estimated that Naga City alone accounts for nearly a third of the volume of trade and commerce in Bicol.
The city’s consumer base has lately been boosted with the mushrooming of subdivisions in the once vacant lots of the city, notably those based in the Pacol-Carolina area within the foot of Mt. Isarog which include the fast-expanding Avida Homes of the prestigious Ayala company and the ambitious Hacienda de Naga of local investor Engr. Boy Aman.
