The countrys biggest broadcast firm, GMA Network Inc., has already reached its entire 2009 target of P2.8 billion net income as of the end of last month and expects to do much better in the coming election year 2010, Chairman and CEO Felipe L. Gozon told reporters Monday night.
GMA is likewise confident that it will achieve its P11- to P12-billion target revenues for 2009. Already, the company has benefitted from some P400-million airtime sales from political advertisements ahead of the presidential elections and kept ahead of competition though it does not plan to increase its advertising rates until February, next year.
Its two international channels GMA Pinoy TV (GPTV) and GMA Life TV (GLTV) have also boosted revenues. Both channels are now available in the US, Canada, Europe, Middle East, North Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Guam, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Hong Kong and other countries.
Subscribers totalled 266,000 as of end-November, according to Gozon.
For its 2010 capital expenditure, the network has allocated P400 million, or less, he disclosed. The bulk of the amount will go to upgrading facilities.
GMA is continuing its regional expansion to strengthen signal coverage in key provinces. It has activated its new five-kilowatt TV relay in Mt. Amuyao, Mt. Province which airs in Channel 5 last Oct. It has also upgraded transmitters and antenna systems for TV-10 Sto. Tomas, Benguet, TV-12 Cagayan de Oro, TV-7 Naga City and TV-12 Mt. Banoy, Batangas.

Talagang ang parihas na lado dai mapahunod ta parihas may ipinaglalaban, pero kun legalidad an pag urulayan, (di nmn sa nagmamarunong) maski pa sinda nagfile ng petition and the fact that there is no ruling yet sa petition ninda, the province is bound to follow the last ruling whereas the city govt. of naga granted the ownership of the said plaza..

indeed! I remember years back that each time a discussion about TV shows was made, I only hear of ABS Shows...
back then, GMA tower(more like an antenna) was at NCF and the signal's really bad. And when we had subscribed to cable, we experience interruptions in signals, particularly at 4 to 6, during the airtime of animated kiddie shows.

Naga Boy December 16th, 2009, 05:06 AM Is it a full store? I never noticed it when I went home last Nov.:ohno:
No, just an outlet but it serves full McDonald's meals.
The one in E mall is also a small outlet for burgers and sundaes.
We actually have 5 McDonald Stores in Naga.
1) Bichara Theater Mall, General Luna (24 hours open)
2) City Plaza (24 hours open)
3) SM City
4) E mall
5) Shell Magsasay
kevinb December 16th, 2009, 05:21 AM ^^ But that's still good to hear. Time will come that the Magsaysay area will be needing a full-fledged McDo store in after a few years.

There are three competing lifestyle centers in Magsaysay:
1. Avenue Suqare
2. Cereza
3. Westpark
I hope the two others would have their different promos as well.
kevinb December 16th, 2009, 05:33 AM ^^ The two other should create their respective niches. With that upon the helm, Magsaysay will transform to a different level!
Naga Rivers December 16th, 2009, 05:35 AM yup.. may action sa plaza... naisip ko pati magduman asin magtabang man sa paghali kan mga tent...
maybe we can do that..hehehe if the people here in Naga doesn't want to have those eyesore in plaza quezon, as Nagueos, we can go there and guard our plaza and remove those tents.
garo man lang arog kadtong kukunon kan Regional Police ung city hall because of the property issue (Mariano). Nagueos went to city hall and guard the place para the ma-take over kan regional police..

oh! So it's only a small store... I haven't noticed... :)
anyways, I think a McDo Cafe(what's the Coffee Shop of McDo called?) would make a great addition to Magsaysay or Naga.
I've went to Centro last Sunday and noticed that CBD I is slowly reviving, (Caramel Bakeshop and Mang Inasal Centro...)
and we're also having a bit of boom in the Ukay industry....

randism December 16th, 2009, 07:37 AM PGMA to sign SSS condonation bill
By Lilybeth G. Ison
MANILA, Dec. 15 (PNA) -- President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is set to sign the proposed "Social Security Condonation Law of 2009", which grants the Social Security System (SSS) a one-time authority to condone penalties on unremitted or delinquent contributions by employers.
Deputy Speaker and Cebu City Rep. Raul del Mar, one of the principal authors of the measure, said the bill grants a one-time opportunity for delinquent employers to pay all contributions due and payable to the SSS.
Del Mar said once signed into law, the SSS condonation measure would not only encourage early and/or immediate settlement of the unpaid or unremitted contributions but also help in the rehabilitation of distressed businesses with the end view of contributing further to economic growth and productivity.
Quezon Rep. Lorenzo "Erin" Tanada III, another author of the bill, said the measure provides a strong incentive for companies in arrears on their principal payments for their employees' contributions to immediately settle what is due and overdue.
"This reduces the huge burden of dealing with the delinquency penalties that have been slapped on them," he said.
Tanada said this is the most important and immediately needed stimulus package directed at ordinary, privately employed individuals.
"With collected and settled principal payments for the SSS members' contributions, they can now avail of the privileges of a good standing SSS member -- claim benefits and get loans -- benefits that would otherwise not be available had their principal payments remained unsettled," he said.
The bill provides that upon approval and payment in full or in installments of contributions due and payable to the SSS, all such pending cases filed against the employer shall be withdrawn without prejudice to the re-filing of the case in the event the employer fails to remit in full the required delinquent contributions or defaults in the payment of any installment under the approved proposal.
In the event that a delinquent employer chooses to submit an installment proposal, the SSS shall give due course to approve and grant the same, subject to the implementing rules and regulations of the Social Security Commission provided that the employer shall remit, upon submission of the installment proposal, a down payment of not less than five percent of its total contribution delinquency.
The measure further provides that the employer shall remit the balance in equal monthly installments within a period not exceeding 48 months from the date of approval of the proposal, provided, finally, that the installment payments shall bear an interest of three percent per annum.
Co-authors of the measure are Deputy Speaker Ma. Amelita Villarosa (Occidental Mindoro), Reps. Felix Alfelor Jr. (4th District, Camarines Sur), Eufrocino Codilla Sr. (4th District, Leyte), Lorna Silverio (3rd District, Bulacan), Narciso Santiago III (ARC party-list) and Candido Pancrudo Jr. (1st District, Bukidnon). randism December 16th, 2009, 07:42 AM Tourism: Sustaining growth in top destinations for the first nine months of 2009 (http://www.pna.gov.ph/index.php?idn=0&nid=6&rid=247544)
By Lynda B. Valencia
MANILA, Dec. 15 (PNA) -- Tourist arrivals to the countrys tourist destinations in the third quarter of 2009 grew by 17 percent to 5.2 million.
Cebu regained its lead as the most visited destination with 1.24 million visitors, posting a growth rate of 1.8 percent vis--vis the previous year volume of 1.21 million.
The opening of new tourism destinations, products, facilities and activities as well as increased in flight frequencies of major airlines from Manila and other islands in the Visayas and Mindanao to Cebu gave impetus for enhanced domestic travel movement.
Tourist influx to Camarines Sur remained robust as domestic visitors increased by 163 percent while foreign arrivals rose by 29 percent for an overall growth of 124.6 percent or 1.23 million tourists.
Major events such as the International Kite Boarding Competition, World Wakeboarding Competition, Ironman Run, and the International Dragon Boat Competition have greatly contributed not only towards increasing awareness but also growth in international travel to the destination.
Despite the lean season in the third quarter, tourist arrivals to Boracay Island rose by 5.3 percent with domestic visitors fast increasing by 10 percent for a total volume of 506,896.
Bohol registered a 21 percent growth in foreign arrivals and 10 percent increase in domestic visitors.
Tourist volume to this destination accounted for 4.3 percent of the total traffic to major destinations in the third quarter of 2009.
The North East Asian market accounted for the bulk of the total foreign tourists at 59 percent, with the Chinese and Taiwanese arrivals posting a share of 23 percent and 16 percent, respectively.
Arrivals to Puerto Princesa City rose by 18 percent with foreign tourist growing faster at 23 percent vis--vis domestic visitor volume which went up by 17 percent.
In the third quarter alone, influx of tourists to Puerto Princesa City posted a 34 percent growth, the highest registered among all destinations during the period under review.
Increase in the meetings, conferences and incentive travel market in the destination triggered the hefty growth in visitor volume.
During the first nine months, the volume of domestic tourist increased by 21 percent while foreign tourist grew by 2.7 percent. This performance positioned the industry for greater growth in the fourth quarter. (PNA)

HOW UNFORTUNATELY ACCURATE!!!
nakakainis talaga! It was about 8:00 in the evening, I get off the bus at Robertson, I call for one of the tricycle drivers and asked him to take me to SM! "DOUBLE RIDE SIR!!!"
and worst! the worst I've had with these tricycle drivers was in LEgazpi! from the old terminal to Baag, I had to pay 120!!! "Special na ito sir..." 30 for each person for four passenger and since I'm the only one in the vehicle. and to top it off, from Baag to Naga on a bus, I only paid 100.
damn! I'm still bitter about that! grrrr! Just had to let out that steam off... hehe

Michael Jaucian
Inquirer News Service
DONNE CASEY LEAO Calara surprised her family and their guests when she was able to identify a note struck from a piano key by her aunt. She was 2 years oldand blindfolded.
Since then, Casey has shown a love for music, her mother Glenda said. Although she did not have formal piano lessons, Casey was able to master simple notes.
Seeing her potential, her parents and aunt, Annamaria, decided to give her lessons. In just one session, Casey learned and played Birthday Song perfectly on the piano.
When Annamaria brought Casey to school, her music teacher, Teresita Hidalgo, was surprised and impressed when the little girl played the keyboard and enjoyed doing it.
Hidalgo volunteered to give Casey piano lessons for free because she believed that the child would become a good pianist and violinist.
Aside from being a fast learner, Casey was very talented and diligent, Hidalgo said. Casey could easily memorize and play any type of music.
At 3, Casey was the youngest student in all the music classes of Hidalgo. She learned how to play the violin at the age of 4.
Hidalgo also taught Casey how to play the marimba at 5, the organ at 7, and the kulintang at 8. Last summer, Melchor Idian of the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music taught her how to play the drums.
Her other tutors in violin were Mark Oliquiano of the UST Conservatory of Music (one semester of 2001), Dr. Jose Bernas (private tutorial in 2002-03), and Jaime Rebustillo (since 2004).
Casey attended two summer workshops at the St. Scholasticas College in Manila on violin under Mary Grace Martinez in 2002 and on piano under Nelia Mitra in 2003.
Classic
Her parents believe that Caseys musical talent was nurtured when she was still in her mothers womb. Glenda said she had heard classical music being played on the piano at the receiving room beside their bedroom by Annamaria.
Annamaria, who was then taking her Bachelor of Arts in Music course at the Universidad de Santa Isabel, was practicing for a recital.
At first, Glenda recalled, she was irritated but she later learned to love and appreciate the classical songs.
Caseys grandmother, Evelyn Marco Calara, said that when Casey was still a baby, she could not sleep unless she heard music from the radio or television.
Solo concert
Now 10, Casey can express her feelings and convey her ideas by playing six musical instrumentspiano, violin, marimba, organ, drums and kulintangbefore huge crowds.
She impressed the audience during a solo violin concert at the Universidad de Santa Isabel auditorium on Sept. 8, with her rendition of classical pieces by Bach, Gossec, Beethoven, Dvorak, Boccherini and Seitz. She also played local classics, like Sarong Banggi, Dandansoy, Minamahal Kita, Nasaan Ka Man and Dahil Sa Iyo.
Caseys father Esmeraldo said she has always been among the top of her class. She was first honor in Grades 1 and 2, third honor in Grade 3, and second honor in Grade 4.
Casey won first prize in the National Music Competition for Young Artists under the piano category A-1 on Nov. 26, 2004 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
She said she would like to become a renowned Filipino composer, like Ryan Cayabyab and Cecile Licad.

oragon.com December 16th, 2009, 12:45 PM Los Angeles, CA – Classical music goes contemporary with the Philippines first all-male classical-pop tenor group, Angelos. Their L.A. concert debut will be happening this November 9th, 5:00 P.M. at the Torrance Cultural Arts Center.
Gaining popularity in Philippines as the “Asian Il Divo”, Angelos is composed of George Sison-Tagle, Floyd Tena, James Uy and Jon Joven, four young singers from different backgrounds in singing and performing classical, Broadway, and pop music.
Launched in September of 2007, their first solo concert “Angelos Live” was at Teatrino, in Greenhills, Philippines. Since then, they have made regular appearances on GMA7 and have performed at special live events throughout the Philippines and with the likes of artists such as Ivy Violan, Nanette Inventor and Kuh Ledesma. 2008 marks Angelos’ first anniversary and the group will be making their L.A. debut after stops in Texas, Spain, Hong Kong and Prague.
The repertoire of Angelos includes popular and romantic songs rendered in a classical manner, plus well-loved Filipino ballads and classics. Members of the media who have seen their performances have dubbed the group, the “Asian Il Divo” because of their Filipino/Asian looks coupled with the singing talent that can compare to international performers.
This 2008, shows lined up for the group include “Angelos: An Evening Serenade” at Teatrino on January 17, “Our Love Affair” back-to-back concert with the Spirit of ’67 band on February 12, and two shows on Valentine’s Day, February 14 – at the Peninsula Manila with Ivy Violan and Nanette Inventor and at the Makati Shangri-La back-to-back with Kuh Ledesma.
The Members of Angelos
GEORGE SISON-TAGLE
George Sison-Tagle, known as the “singing painter”, is the son of renowned painter E.R. Tagle and philanthropist/producer Beth Sison-Tagle. An artist in his own right, having had his own share of exhibits here and abroad since 1995, George was inclined to classical music at a young age. He received his classical music training from mentors such as the late Al Mendoza of the Ryan Cayabyab Music School, Abet de los Reyes, Nolyn Cabahug, and Philippine Opera Company founders Jay Greyoso and Karla Gutierrez. Currently, he is taking lessons with premiere soprano Rachelle Gerodias. As a solo artist, George has performed in various shows alongside the likes of Ivy Violan, Dulce, Janet Basco, Jinky Llamanzares and other notable singers. He performed as Prince Tamino in Mozart’s opera, “The Magic Flute”, produced by the Philippine Opera Company and was a special performer during the NCCA Cultural Summit in 2005 where he performed “Kurakot”, the winning song of the 2005 NCCA Songwriting contest. In 2004, George was nominated Best New Artist at the Aliw Awards. In September 2007, he launched his self-titled light CD which includes original compositions by Vehnee Saturno such as “Sa Panaginip Ko”, “Make You Mine Again”, “You’re Supposed to Love Me”, ”Give You All My Love” and a classical-pop revival of Jaya’s “Dahil Tanging Ikaw”. According to Saturno, George has the distinction of being the first solo classical singer in the country to ever record a classical-pop album.
FLOYD TENA
Floyd Tena, a Bicolano, is a product of the Ateneo de Naga Music Ministry where he often sang as a soloist. After graduating from a course in Development Communication, civic-minded Floyd joined the Jesuit Volunteers Philippines (JVP) and worked as a senior coalition builder helping farmers in Compostela Valley, Mindanao with paralegal services. He does freelance consultancy on Marketing, Events, Brand Management, Product Development and Corporate (Behavioral and Skills) Training. With a keen interest in arts and culture, Floyd also dabbled in dance and musical theater as a member of Teatro Dignos and played the role of Andres Bonifacio in the centennial presentation dubbed “josebonifacioandresrizal”. He has been playing classical guitar (left-handedly) since his grade school days. A radio talent, he regularly gets invited as host or singer in various formal and corporate functions. Floyd is also a commercial model, having done print and TV ads for companies such as Smart, Eight O Clock and Rustans Fresh. He counts the Madrigal Singers, Bukas Palad, Himig Heswita, Basil Valdez and Andrea Bocelli as among his musical influences, and loves to discover beautiful music from unsigned artists.
JAMES UY
James Uy is a fresh face to professional singing. The youngest member of Angelos at only 22 years old, James is a graduate of Computer Information Systems at the Heritage College in Nevada, USA. While in the US, he joined and landed the runner-up position in the Las Vegas Pinoy Pop Superstar singing competition. He discovered his passion for singing at 5, watching his older brother Jon Joven sing and perform Broadway classics. During high school at Lourdes School in Quezon City, James bagged the lead role in the school’s original play, “Manora”, and has represented the school in several singing competitions. Being a “techie”, James enjoys tinkering with computers, and plays basketball and table tennis. James has also had solo vocalist and choir experience, and has done minor stage performances here and abroad, usually guesting at concerts of other Filipino performers such as Mykel Laygo and “Miss Saigon” US alumnus Johnny Fernandez.
JON JOVEN
Broadway singer Jon Joven has had extensive Broadway experience for the past 10 years. Joven was part of the “Miss Saigon” production in Germany where he played Thuy and “My Fair Lady” in the US where he played Freddy Einsford Hill. He was also part of the ensemble of the US productions of “South Pacific” and “West Side Story” in Wichita, Kansas. On local stage, he was part of “Himala” the musical where he played the principal role of Orly and “Noli Me Tangere” where he played Crisostomo Ibarra. He received the first Academy Special Citation for theatrical excellence from the Famas Awards in 2004 and was nominated Best Actor in a Musical Play (Noli Me Tangere) at the 2005 Aliw Awards. At the 2006 World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) in Hollywood, California, Joven won several medals including one Gold for Broadway, two Silvers for Pop and Opera and one plaque for Overall Champion Male Solo for Broadway.
Portion of the proceeds from this concert will go to Bantay Bata, a project of the ABS-CBN Foundation USA, Inc. (see www.abscbnfoundation.org) and The Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (see www.esipa.org). The Angelos: The L.A. Debut is sponsored by The Asian Journal and by the Office of Van Dichoso, C.P.A.

kevinb December 17th, 2009, 04:11 AM Yesterday was also the launching of Astoria Plaza's partnership with Villa Caceres Hotel.
We were supposed to attend the Genesis Hotels Promo Launching in Naga City but failed to do so. We were im Buhi.
Question:
Is Villa Caceres going to put up another hotel in the city under the management of Astoria Plaza? Or is it the other way around? Astoria to open a hotel here with Villa Caceres managing it?
The Genesis Chain of Hotels is a budget hotel chain in Malaysia right? I didn't know they have branches here in the country. Are they opening a hotel as well or are they just doing their marketing promotions in the city?
EDIT/CORRECTION:

If it's just for marketing purposes only, they could've just put up a booth in SM or Avenue Square, just like what they did in Legazpi via the Embarcadero. Partnering with another hotel will be more expensive IMO.
On second thought, if it's indeed for marketing purposes, Villa Caceres could be using the partnership to promote the hotel here in Manila. Could be. But let's wait for Doc's rejoinder.

I hope I'm at Naga by that time and drop by.. it so happens that our batch reunion would also be held at that date, about the same time but in another venue, tough in the same city... :)
anyway, may I ask kung saan makakabili ng map ng Bicol? complete with roads and location of poblacions and barangays? I have one here but it seems old and too big... or rather, what government agency provides us maps?
thanks...

Hi Ms. Ina! ingat po sa biyahe!
hmmm... as for the taxis, before, papuntang Pacol or Carolina, double ride pa, pero after siguro nagmeeting or kung ano pa man, basta w/in Naga, regular fare lang.
I often see Taxis going to and from Pacol...
i hope they soon consider the nearby towns part of their normal route. camaligan, for example, is closer to the centro than pacol or carolina! but it's good they have reconsidered the double ride rule for Naga Uptown as this is a fast-growing residential zone and has long been a recreation zone (resorts, hot and cold springs, waterfalls, sports complex, eco park).
any idea how much airport to centro rate is? will probably take cab when i arrive on the 22nd.

Good morning Father.
As much as I hate most taxi drivers here in Manila due to "sapilitang tip" (e.g. no change, asking for extra pay since there's heavy traffic or rain or flood, etc), I think it's OK for that rule to be done in Naga since not all people can afford riding taxi cabs. But if the the route is very near the old CBD though outside the city, especially Camaligan and Gainza, I hope they lift that rule. In that small way, it's like living up to the so-called Metro Naga conurbation.
Regardless of the small number of taxi cabs operating in and around the city, I find it really good that it's little by little increasing. From the initial 10 to 30 and now 40 units. Within the next year, I'm rooting for 20-30 more units to be operational.
Go for gold, Naga!

that's a good investment if canaman (and even neighboring towns) venture into tourism tapping the natural and historic spots in the area. bohol has set a very good example with its loboc river cruise. song-and-dance performances are now shown at certain stops along the river cruise. the river and its surroundings are clean and well-maintained.
if i remember the rate correctly, i think it's about P300/ head for the loboc river cruise, including the buffet lunch, a sampling of visayan cuisine. surely worth it!

I hope Naga does what Singapore does with their taxi drivers. In SG, taxi drivers have like a code of conduct. Whenever they break any of their code, they are sanctioned. That's why their taxi drivers are good.

The church decoration during christmas has been sponsored alternately every year by different Institutions (mostly educational institutions) and NGO's even in 70's, 80's and up to present. Commercialization has never been an issue for Irigueos attending the mass during misa de gallo even though a very intense rivalry of the 2 universities who often sponsors the said activities church goers just simply appreciate this.
Now, I think started last year, plaza decoration followed suit. Commercial establishment, educational institutions and NGO's are the one rendering decoration and lightings of the PLAZA during christmas season. sonofignatius December 17th, 2009, 05:38 AM Iyo tlga po sir, i am wondering why this artifacts are not properly documented.. :ohno:
perhaps because as a people we have not really been history-conscious. some tend, for example, to throw things away when they tidy or spruce up their homes, not paying attention to items or scraps (pieces of old wood, etc) that may have historical value. buildings can be torn down or renovated quite easily without taking note of their signficance. renovations at times (or often?) become a total overhaul of the structure without retaining elements of the original.
this can perhaps be explained in some way by our way of life thousands of years before the colonizers came. the precolonials were mostly nomadic people who left their homes to build new ones when food source had become scarce. they worshipped spirits believed to be present everywhere so there was no need to erect large and permanent monuments and shrines. (Small statues, though, called lagdong in Bikol, have been found.)
they also wrote on barks of trees and leaves which disintegrated in time.
but the good news is there's a growing history-consciousness (and also literary- and art- ) in our place. this we can see in the museums maintained in Naga, the monuments built or in progress, old houses now properly maintained and marked (eg, one along Penafrancia Av with "Villafrancia" on its facade). Naga has hosted in recent years historical conferences. the old Seminario hosted one a few months ago.
there's a city hall committee on history and culture. this is a good start.
PS: i suspect if careful excavation is done along the Naga River where old settlements are believed to have established themselves, precious items will be found.
ancient burial jars were found in a cave in Libmanan many years ago.

certainly a good practice to nurture the community spirit. very pinoy. much like the groups that take turns in sponsoring novenas before the town fiesta :-)

It's never going to be the last one Pau! New ones can created and then installed in and around the city. The Cathedral complex can be one.
Even if new ones are not classic designs, they can still make up for the beauty that it may hold. Look at the New Govt Center in Bacolod. It's only less than five years old yet it looks very grand due to the fact that neo-classicism has been imbued very well. It's not tacky, it's not mushy - it's just neo-classical! Now, if Naga does the same with small things like plazas or the historical markers planned to be installed, we can never go wrong.
Modernization is inevitable but I'd still love to see Naga's old side revived.
randism December 17th, 2009, 05:51 AM Smart exceeds '09 tree-planting target
Together with partner organizations nationwide, Smart Communications, Inc. has exceeded its 2009 target of planting 300,000 seedlings and propagules in selected areas.
As of end-October, some 332,500 seedlings and propagules have been planted under SMARTrees, a tree-planting initiative under Kabalikat, the companys corporate social responsibility and community service program.
We thank our employee-volunteers and program partners for helping us contribute to increasing our forest cover, said Smart Public Affairs Group Head Ramon R. Isberto.
Since August, a series of planting activities have been held in 13 provinces across the country. Planting sites include Quezon, Batangas, Bulacan, Bataan, Palawan, and Camarines Sur in Luzon; Cebu, Iloilo, Negros Oriental, and Guimaras in Visayas; and Misamis Oriental, Zamboanga del Sur and Surigao del Norte in Mindanao.
Smart is working with local offices of government agencies such as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the National Commission on Indigenous People, NGOS like the Corporate Network for Disaster Response, and the Philippine Business for Social Progress, and the local government units in the tree planting program.
The reforestation effort is part of a three-year tree-planting agreement forged in 2008 between telecoms leader and parent company Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., Smart, the PLDT-Smart Foundation and Japans leading mobile telecommunications company NTT Docomo, Inc.
During the first year, Smart planted some 167,000 seedlings and propagules in about 10 provinces nationwide. A group of NTT Docomo employees also joined a tree-planting activity in Mt. Banahaw in Quezon.
The visit was duplicated last September when employees from NTT Docomos Global Business Division and Corporate Citizenship Department offices in Tokyo, Japan joined a tree-planting activity at the Ipo Dam Watershed in Norzagaray, Bulacan.
In addition to contributing to the reforestation of forestlands and mangrove areas, the tree planting program has also opened opportunities that will benefit the local community.

It's not only Nagueos, Father, it's the entire Filipino race. Just look at what they did to heritage buildings in Manila. The old Grand Opera Hotel torn down to make a new one, the Metropolitan theater in Lawton which closed down and is still not undergoing renovations, the former Sta Ana Race Track which was demolished for SM City San Lazaro. Tsk. It saddens me.:(

I think so too. A few names, though most are forgotten by my brain except for Danny Gerona, have been sprouting. Literary pieces in Bikol have been surfacing. A few groups of painters, particularly Kurit Bikol, are gaining following.

sonofignatius December 17th, 2009, 07:02 AM yes, kevin, my son, when i say 'as a people ' i don't mean the people of naga but we pinoys as a people :-)
so that the lack of monuments and permanent structures, the animist nature of precolonial religion, and the non-durable writing materials are certainly meant not for Naga alone but the much wider bigger Filipino people.
there is a discussion on Bikol culture and literature under one of the Philippine forums.

I guess this is one of the few artifacts na documented for libmanan.. this a cover for a burial urn.. Lokdo nin Libmanan as whatn they call this^^
this is exhibited at the Seminario Museum, right?
from our bikol history and culture lessons back in high school i associate libmanan with Culapnitan Caves and Mt Tancong Vaca (which looks like the back of a cow; the Tancong Vaca Guerrilla Unit or TVGU of WWII was named after this mountain).
siyempre pa, i think of the sense of hearing when i think of libmanan :) of course, Libmanan's label has nothing to do with its sense of hearing but more with how people respond (an automatic "Ha?" even when they have heard and understood what was said)
this is an interesting part of our culture (again, not just unique to our part of the country but surely highlighted here) - associating characteristics with, or attaching labels to places and their residents.
when a classmate was seen with feet up his seat, our elementary school teacher asked him: Ano ka, taga-Milaor? as we all know, Milaor is a low-lying area and is thus prone to floods.
if you are familiar with the English literary piece Man with A Hoe ("bowed by the centuries..."): did you know that it actually refers to a resident of Partido district in CamSur?
when you listen to the taga-Partido speak, they use a "hoe" (actually, "ho") hehehe...

Siguro it would be best Plaza FRizal will be included in Priority List of the City Govt. when it comes to renovation:)

hakz2007 December 17th, 2009, 09:16 AM OPERATION ADOBO #5
Am now considering a third railway adventure during the upcoming Philippine trip.
This would be to cover the rest of the south line from Lucena through to Legaspi, any rollingstock, stations or other structures.
Probably drive direct to Legaspi (mostly for the Mayon), spend a day there and then a couple of days slowly coming back checking things out.
North of Lucena I hope to catch up on a few locations visited earlier this year, but washed completely out by rain.
Have plenty of research to do between now and then, especially the location of Bicol stations etc and how to get into Hondagua.
Perhaps we could have a gathering of PRHS/SSC members in Bicol if there is enough interest.
This would at least help fill in many more gaps amongst my south line collection - The Horny Toad has been busy covering the north for us.
Regards
Brad
This would be interesting!
aidz December 17th, 2009, 09:20 AM This would be interesting!
we therefore need to formally induct our SSC-CamSUr Chapter President then!
HEhe!
I recalled once that there will be a move to do so this coming January.

These photos look creepy. Looks like a scene in a a horror movie.
But yes, I see that the fence in the Cathedral is the old one. Good thing that it's been preserved.:okay:
yes, kevin, my son, when i say 'as a people ' i don't mean the people of naga but we pinoys as a people :-)

if you are familiar with the English literary piece Man with A Hoe ("bowed by the centuries..."): did you know that it actually refers to a resident of Partido district in CamSur?
I am familiar with this piece. We used it as a piece when our class entered a speech choir competition back in HS. As far as I know, it's inspired by a French painting. :dunno:

Hi Al. Again, welcome to the forum. It's OK if you don't contribute a lot of photos or any development in Iriga but certainly you can share what you know in every discussion there is in this thread.
But since you're going home this Season, you may want to get photos and bit and pieces of new developments in Iriga.:D
You're welcome.:D

The picture of the Cathedral walls sure looks creepy... speaking of walls... notice that wall at the corner of Blumentrit St. and Panganiban drive... know what once was protected by that wall?

That ground was once a football ground of the Minor Seminary ( at present under the Parish of St. John the Evangelist). Across the small road is probably Abella residence preserving a Spanish build gate. I don't expect the road was too narrow that time. Sayang dae ta na hiling ang Barlin st. .
fil07 December 17th, 2009, 06:15 PM it seems that the level of the ground was lower than iglesia street.

And I just passed by Centro and Magsasay Ave before I went home and the whole strip is colorful and beautiful with street lights, christmas decors and christmas lights. Is this already operational?
Naga focuses so much on enticing investors to invest here in Naga. Budgets are diverted heavily on business, infra, education...less are appropriated for the restoration or at least maintenance of our few remaining history-rich resources :ohno:
^^ I've read somewhere that Mayor Robredo is already focusing on Naga's history since we've already gone so far economically and politically. He says it's high time that we look back to our past. I like it.:D
It's actually one of his weaknesses and thank God he's facing such weakness to be one of his strengths.
I'm glad that the city is now focusing on our proud history.
we therefore need to formally induct our SSC-CamSUr Chapter President then!
HEhe!
I recalled once that there will be a move to do so this coming January.
:)
And who would that be?:)

Good job!
aidz December 18th, 2009, 04:42 AM ^^ It indeed looks clean. Good! :okay:
the second floor even looks like a hang-out.. there's even a stage for a band to play on... the second floor is filled with carenderias and eateries... and they serve good food. It's really neat and presentable! I hope our new market would follow...
Naga Boy December 18th, 2009, 04:49 AM Good job!
Amazing. Really amazing.:banana2:
aidz December 18th, 2009, 04:50 AM Good job!
indeed! It seems our domestic tourists contributed to our growth the most... however, we should remember that this is only the beginning as Caramoan, as I recalled the older threads, has been visited by foreign journalists/marketers for accreditation I think or something like that so as to be included in travel packages... And there's more! A time will come when it's not just Cam Sur, but the whole of Bicol... when our infrastructure and transportation sectors would be greatly improved! :)
kevinb December 18th, 2009, 04:54 AM ^^ Yes! With those being improved at the helm, there's no stopping CamSur/Naga from being one of the top tourists drawers in the country!
Look at the difference of Cebu and CamSur. A very thin margin of about 4K tourists! Look at CamSur's and Baguio's difference. Almost twice that of Baguio's visitors! :cheer:
kevinb December 18th, 2009, 05:04 AM and take note, they are are first class Ukay Ukay,. I bought one bag for my mom last sunday, authentic Balenciaga ..
I want one! I saw a Balenciaga bag in Greenbelt 3 that I so wanna buy but can't do. Sobrang mahal!:ohno:
yeah! Ali Avenue is one, if not, the best Ukay here in Naga; Presentation wise at least. I haven't tried any of their merchandise yet... however, the best I've seen are their furniture.
Agree! Last year, I bought a trench coat there and a woolen coat (both for office purposes :D) which cost only less than P500. And they look new!

CamSur and Albay should work on a single tourism program and be promoted as a single destination.
Imagine the income and livelihood it would generate to all Bicolanos if Albay would be able to attract at least half of Camsur tourists before heading back home. That more than what Baguio is getting and could place Albay as the third most visited province. And Bicol the most visited Region in the Philippines.
Albay has so much to offer.
If Im not mistaken, according the COA report, CWC alone earned a net income of 150 million last year making CamSur the 10th richest province in the PI according to net income.

There are several subdivisions in Naga developed by Deca Homes. Their office is at Nagaland Hotel.
Are Deca Homes Naga and Deca Home Davao the same developers?
