Sen. Tecla San Andres Ziga Road stretches from corner Magsaysay and Peñafrancia aves up to Panicuason.

She is a Nagueña. She is the first female bar topnotcher (1930). Although elected member of the phil senate, she was not its first female member (I am correcting my previous post).

Cathedral St. is one of the short streets perpendicular to Ateneo Ave. towards north.

thanks for the info, jardet. didn't know Ziga Road- quite a long stretch covering 4 barangays, making it one of naga's longest. didn't realize she is from naga. sabagay, dakul nanggad mga San Andres sato.

yes you and jamir got Cathedral st right! parallel to this (as one heads to the ateneo campus) is siena road now mother francisca road, named after the17th century Filipina founder of the Dominican Sisters of St Catherine of Siena. she is a candidate for sainthood. the OP-Siena Sisters run a dormitory on that street.

Igualdad Interior is the name of the barangay.

thanks for this info, too :-)

Liboton Extension now M. T. Villanueva Avenue

AFTER more than three years of waiting, the currently named Liboton Extension will now be officially known as M.T. Villanueva Avenue. This was made possible through Republic Act No. 9704 signed recently by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

It was April 2, 2006 when the NCF Alumni Association sent a petition to Congressman Luis R. Villafuerte calling for the renaming of the street. Though the petitioners were met with some criticisms for the initiative, they also earned support, such as the one extended by the local city officials.

The street has been renamed in honor of Dr. Melchor Trinidad Villanueva, the founder of the Naga College Foundation. A private school, NCF started as a single-built building. Today, it houses the tallest school facility in the city --- the 7-storey Melchor Trinidad Villanueva Hall.

Dr. Villanueva, who brought quality yet affordable education to Bicolanos, is not only a dedicated educator but also an acknowledged war hero having served as a lieutenant during World War II. In fact, he was awarded the prestigious Presidential Gold Medal for his heroic exploits as member of the guerilla movement.

Dr. Villanueva was a man of talents and skills. He was a musician, a violinist in particular. He was also considered a sportsman; as he was a weightlifter and boxer during his time. His physical regimen helped him live up to the age of 93. Dr. Villanueva passed away June 13, 2000; leaving a legacy as educator, hero, musician, and sportsman… but above all as an inspiration to all those in search of knowledge and wisdom. He and his outstanding accomplishments will be immortalized by the street fittingly named after him.

here's the tentative plan for the proposed SSC Roadtrip:

Date: January 1, 2010
Time: 12:00 NN - 5:00 PM
Itinerary:
1. Naga City Ecology Park (we can play like kids in their labyrinth)
2. Bicol Hydro (deep into the relaxing therapeutic hot water )
3. Mt. Isarog (enjoy the cool breeze and panoramic view of Naga)

for your perusal guys
thanks!

happy road trip! has anyone been to Naga View Academy (or college?), the school of the adventist church on the slope of isarog facing naga? good view of the city.

do they still sell fresh young coconuts in the Eco Park? i remember enjoying freshly harvested tipong during our first visit there. park staff climbed the coco trees as we ordered.

how much is entrance fee per pax at Hydro now - P100 or P150? in the 90s when we would bike all the way up to panicuason, it was absolutely free! but of course, it wasnt as developed as it is now. the drive to the hot and cold springs is breathtaking - top of jeep is the place to be to enjoy the forest, stream, the wild and the cool, fresh breeze brushing your cheeks!

not sure if they still have "tipong for sale" @ Ecopark, but we can enjoy climbing chico tress and picking ripe guava.

P80.00 the last time we visited Bicol Hydro..they even put up a beer house on top of a cliff near the pool offering a blissful view of Naga.

Dato’s Dam Vital to Improve Lives of CamSur Farmers (http://www.brbwmp.ph/)
By Ed G. Yu

NAGA CITY --- The claim of the Institute of Environmental Conservation and Research (Inecar) of the Ateneo de Naga University (AdeNU) that the Libmanan-Cabusao Dam is unnecessary is without basis and a case of seeing the trees instead of the entire forest, the Bicol River Basin and Watershed Management Project (BRBWMP) said.

Assistant Secretary Tomasito B. Monzon, BRBWMP program director, lamented that what Inecar did is to solely focus its study on the cost and perceived detrimental effects of the project. He said Inecar totally ignored the benefits of the LCDP, which are very substantial in terms of improving the lives of its beneficiaries and the local economy of the towns of Libmanan and Cabusao in the first district of Camarines Sur.

He said that once the LCDP is finished, it will increase the annual net production value of the farmer-beneficiaries from P207.5 million to P593.6 million. From the present 1,686 beneficiaries, the project will directly benefit 3,005 farmers and their families as a result of the increase in the irrigated area from 2,900 hectares to 4,000 hectares.

Monzon said that with the increase in the annual net production value from P207.5 million to P593.6 million, the LCDP is deemed financially and economically feasible that is why it got the favorable endorsement of the Bicol region’s Regional Development Council (RDC) and the approval of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).

RDC Bicol endorsed LCDP for funding on Feb. 4, 2009 as the project supported the objectives of the Bicol Medium Term Regional Development Plan and because of its social and economic benefits.

Monzon clarified that contrary to the claim of Inecar, the cost of the dam is only P700 million, not P1.9-billion.

Based from the data of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA), which is the implementing agency of the project, the P 1.9-billion is the total allocation for the four major components of the Libmanan-Cabusao Dam Project (LCDP), which include aside from the dam, the construction of a 10.28-kilometers of link canal, 10.75-kilometers of service road, and the construction of new and rehabilitation of existing irrigation and drainage facilities to serve some 4,000 hectares in the towns of Libmanan and Cabusao.

The BRBWMP chief, who is also the presidential assistant for Bicol said the dam is being built so that the national government could save P6 million to P7 million yearly in precious taxpayers money to pay the fuel cost alone of the operation of the four units of 250-horse power diesel engines that run the four pumps of the Libmanan-Cabusao pump Irrigation System (LCPIS).

The LCPIS was constructed by the Philippine government through the assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It was completed in June 1981 at the cost of P 85.6 million. After 28 years of operation, its pumps, engines, irrigation structures and facilities badly need repairs and improvement. From the original irrigated area of 2,195 hectares, LCPIS at present serves some 1,500 hectares only.

The national government’s investment on the dam is justified in terms of its socio-economic and cost saving benefits. With the unabated and spiraling rise in the price of diesel fuel expected to continue in the future, the funds given to the project is worth its benefits, Monzon added.

He also belied Inecar’s claim that 13 villages in Lupi will be inundated once the dam becomes operational. The dam feasibility study prepared by NIA revealed that only eight of the 38 villages in Lupi and two of the 46 barangays in Sipocot would be affected by the back water of the dam.

The initial result of the recent survey conducted by NIA to validate its previous surveys and the flood that happened on Nov. 5 where the water level in in the area actually reached elevation 15 (15 meters), showed that the flood affected only nine houses in barangay Lupi Viejo, the town’s poblacion, instead of the estimated 210 households previously identified by NIA in its previous surveys.

The BRBWMP plans to relocate some 323 households in 10 villages in Lupi and Sipocot as they would be affected by the rise of the water level once the dam is finished. But with the survey result and actual flood level that occurred on Nov. 5, Monzon said that the number of residents that need to be resettled will be lesser than the original number.

A comprehensive development plan for the affected residents is now being finalized by the BRBWMP’s Project Management Office(PMO). Aside from the provision of resettlement program for the affected residents who will be given houses and lots, the plan covers: payment of just compensations for damage to properties and crops; livelihood opportunities; replacement of three spillways that will be submerged with new concrete bridges; and other packages of benefits.

BRBWMP is working out a P500-million fund to finance the comprehensive development plan that will be sourced from the President’s Social Fund and the National Housing Authority.

As to the recommendation of AdeNU’s environment institute for the government to consider less costly alternatives to the dam, Monzon said that the dam is the most economical and the only viable alternative to the expensive operation of the existing pump irrigation system. “It’s a long time investment to ensure that the livelihood of the 3,000 farming families in Libmanan and Cabusao is uplifted and sustained.”

He also added that the project was issued ECC because the dam poses low risk to the environment and the biodiversity of the flora and fauna in the areas surrounding it. Environment Secretary Lito Atienza approved on April 20, 2009 the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) for the dam project.

Hydroponics: A new way to grow vegetables, other agricultural crops (http://businessmirror.com.ph/component/content/article/53-agri-commodities/20243-hydroponics-a-new-way-to-grow-vegetables-other-agricultural-crops.html)

PILI, Camarines Sur—Even urban areas in the country can now produce in commercial scale high-quality vegetables and other agricultural crops through a revolutionary approach in farming called hydroponics.

This newly introduced urban-farming system is a potential approach to revitalize agriculture by fundamentally altering the manner of how crop is produced. This included eliminating the dependence of plants on soil by completely changing their growing medium.

The concept of hydroponics proves that soil is no longer crucial for the plant to thrive when the required mineral nutrients are artificially introduced into the plant’s water supply and plant roots absorb them, said Jose Dayao, the regional executive director for Bicol of the Department of Agriculture (DA) based here.

Dayao explained that hydroponics makes use of crafty facilities, and resource-efficient and cost-effective cultures and systems to allow the effective use of land, nutrient, water and labor in a comfortable and sanitary working condition.

It also permits the grower to exercise better control of weeds, pests and diseases and in modifying the plant’s diet, resulting in the larger yield of better-quality vegetables up to 10 times the yield of geoponically cultivated crops.

While some plants grow better than others, almost any terrestrial plant will grow hydroponically, a clean and safe horticulture technique that offers economic and healthy alternative to organic gardening, Dayao said.

In organic gardening, he added, growers rely on higher yield and longer period of harvest season to offset the increased cost of maintaining the system and greenhouse structure.

In hydroponics, the use of any growing medium is possible, but raising plants in a sterile growing medium with no reserved nutrients is advantageous. However, the choice is a question of economics and availability.

Rice hull, an agricultural waste abundant in most rice-producing regions of the country; and pumice, an extruded stone plentiful in lahar areas; and coco peat, a byproduct of the coconut industry, are better choices.

A system can also be designed as a recovery system that would ensure every plant gets the precise amount of water and nutrients it needs in exact doses at prescribed intervals.

Sweeter and larger fruits can be produced using a flow rate of 1 to 3 liters per hour and an application interval of 24 x 15 minutes per day. Recovery or recirculating systems guarantee tremendous savings in water and nutrients, Dayao said.

He said recent developments in the Central Luzon State University in the Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, have proven that honeydew melon can be successfully cultured hydroponically using rice hull, pumice and coco peat as growing media with nutrient solution delivered by low-head submersible pumps powered by a low-cost automatic controller.

Under tropical greenhouse conditions, good-quality melon fruits were harvested about 70 days after seeding and increased the growing season to four per year. The system has 36 percent of the harvest to break even.

Hydroponics is still in its infancy in the Philippines as it is only practiced by hobbyists, businessmen, research-oriented institutions and universities for research purposes.

“Thus, promotion of this high-technology farming system in the country requires a concerted effort from the government, businessmen and technocrats,” the DA regional chief said.

Given preferential attention and top-priority advocacy, it can become a technical reality to produce yields never before realized and provide positive future to feed millions, he said.

Hydroponics was applied to rice farming in Japan several years ago when they converted an old and dilapidated train station into a progressive hydroponics system and were able to grow rice four times a year with harvest up to five times higher than the traditional way, he said.

Growing vegetables sans harmful chemicals (http://businessmirror.com.ph/component/content/article/53-agri-commodities/20244-growing-vegetables-sans-harmful-chemicals.html)

PILI, Camarines Sur—Producing quality vegetables without the use of chemical fertilizers or insect repellents while preserving a healthy environment is the focus of an ongoing series of technology-transfer activities being initiated by the Department of Agriculture (DA) Bicol regional office here.

These activities under the DA’s Organic Vegetable Production Program provide training and hands-on exercises to farmers initially in some parts of the province and later to all vegetable-producing areas in the region.

“We are arming farmers with the know-how that would contribute immensely to a much efficient and improved production of vegetables, as well as other high-value commercial crops [HVCC],” DA regional executive director Jose Dayao told the BusinessMirror over the weekend.

It would equip them with the competence in various stages of vegetable production, including pest and disease prevention and control management, he added.

“If there is a Farmer Field School [FFS] for rice farmers, there is also one for vegetable producers both put up by the DA regional office at barangay La Purisima here that focus on new technology that does not use chemical repellents, but utilizes indigenous materials to drive away harmful insects from rice and vegetable plantations,” Dayao said.

Each training class is composed of at least 50 farmers required to complete the eight-week sessions conducted weekly and actual participation in practicing together what they learn at the classroom.

The actual trainings are conducted within the experimental site, where they would grow vegetables through organic farming and monitor its progress during the two-month duration of the training course.

The DA Regional Field Unit (RFU), Agricultural Training Institute, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) and the provincial government of Camarines Sur and the local government unit (LGU) here are working hand in hand in making this program successful, Dayao said.

Villafuerte said the program needs all-out support from LGUs that carry with them social responsibilities toward the attainment of food security in their respective localities and provide the constituents with an alternative source of income.

The Camarines Sur OPA had organized a Training Management Team on HVCC for this program and other agricultural productivity undertakings in the province, the governor said.

As programmed by the DA-RFU, he said establishing more FFS in the province would eventually convert local farmers from inorganic using expensive chemical fertilizers and pesticides to organic whose farming practices are more cost-effective and environment-friendly.

Dayao said his office is contemplating on expanding the coverage of FFS not only to other towns of Camarines Sur, but to agricultural areas in the region so that each of the six Bicol provinces can become self-sufficient in organically grown food crops.

“All we need is the support of LGUs so that this program becomes successful in their respective farming communities. Bicol had vast areas for organic vegetable production currently left idle due to lack of interest among farmers and the high cost of chemical fertilizers and pesticides even as the DA provides planting materials for free,” he added.

LRay Nutri-Eskwela benefits school children in public schools (http://camsur.com/CamSur-News/camsur-press-release/lray-nutri-eskwela-benefits-school-children-in-public-schools.html)

PILI, CAMSUR—The provincial government in partnership with the Department of Education-Camarines Sur has launched the LRay Nutri-Eskwela intended to improve the health and nutritional status of school children in selected public elementary schools.

Initially, the target beneficiaries of the Nutri-Eskwela are public schools where the provincially administered hospitals are situated such as in the towns of Ragay, Libmanan, Sipocot, San Jose, Ocampo and Siruma. The nutritionists/dieticians of these hospitals will serve as lecturers during the sessions.
The LRay Nutri-Eskwela complements the LRay Vita Kidz which has benefited more than 25,000 children, aged six years and below, has been successfully implemented in several towns of the province of CamSur.

The beneficiaries of the project are Grade III and VI pupils. The program’s implementation in identified public elementary schools will run from 15 to 30 minutes per session and the lessons include lecture on proper nutrition, backyard gardening and animal raising and meal planning.

Nutri-Eskwela has already been launched and completed in Hanawan Elementary School in the town of Ocampo. The launching of the project in the said school was attended not only by the pupils and teachers but also by barangay officials and Provincial Health Office (PHO) representatives.

Liboton Extension now M. T. Villanueva Avenue (http://www.bicolmail.com/issue/2009/dec24/xlibot.html)

He and his outstanding accomplishments will be immortalized by the street fittingly named after him.

this is part of naga's character - its active night life, its sleepless lifestyle. even when i was a kid when the family would watch the last full show at Emily Theater, there were always people in the centro streets and there were always restos for late-night cravings.

back in our college years when our pockets were yet poor and deprived (merely subsidized :-) and on occasion didn't have the budget for the nicer places, there were always the rows of peanut stalls to choose from and the thousand and one ways you wanted your peanuts cooked - linabonan, sinanlag, salted, sugarcoated, pahingurag bawang, burles, burles na maharang. (it's the last for me!)

or there were the barbecue stalls, too. (does anyone remember Rosana's barbecue near what used to be Nehru's supermarket? way before Sa Harong, there was Rosana's)

or there was always Lucky 9 convenience store where one could get a gallon of selecta, some chips and softdrinks (pagkatapos mag arambagan) and wipe all this out in the plaza. (we really did this!)

and did you know that one paramani family has sent all children to school, some of them finishing their degrees in manila? (so an uncle tells me; his thesis for his AB economics at the ateneo was on these paramani)

BPI also as the most branches in Naga City

Region V BPI Branches:

Legazpi- Rizal St cor Mons. Reyes St, Old District.
Legazpi-Rotonda, Rizal St. cor Quezon Ave., Legazpi City, Albay
Tabaco- Ziga Ave. cor T. Cabiles St., Tabaco, Albay
Naga-Caceres, BPI Bldg., Elias Angeles St. cor Padian, Naga City
Naga-Penafrancia Penafrancia Ave., Naga City, Camarines Sur
Naga-Evangelista Evangelista St., Naga City, Camarines Sur
Naga-Magsaysay Magsaysay Ave., Naga City, Camarines Sur (soon to open)
Daet- Cor Moreno & Joaquin Coreses Sts., Daet, Camarines Norte

Oh you mean BPI has the most branch in Bicol Region. Kasi if you say that BPI has the most number of branch in NAGA,,,then you are terribly mis informed. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO ANGELES CITY, SAN FERNANDO IN PAMPANGA...IN TARLAC CITY (Huwag na sa Metro Manila)...IN DAGUPAN... hi dustin! thanks for visiting the thread. if you don't mind may i just help clarify the post a bit :-)

indeed what the post refers to is only the Bikol Region.

i don't think the claim extends to places outside Bikol. For certainly there are cities far bigger and more developed, hosting more banks and a much bigger number of bank branches.

if one follows the preceding pages of the discussion, one will see that Naga Boy's posts respond to a previous question raised re: banks in Naga.

thanks for reading. and good evening!

1. more job opportunities through new establishment/businesses that will open in 2010. Hopefully new BPO companies will open in Camarines Sur. These will affect the purchasing power of the people here if they have jobs, especially good paying jobs. And also good income for our businesses here.Ü

2. beautification of Plaza Rizal. Since Naga has already the ownership of the plaza, it's about time to renovate it or fix some damages in the plaza and make it one of the best landmark in the city.

3. beautiful Naga City Public Market. Hopefully, we could regain the glorious years of our city public market when it was dubbed as the largest public market in Southeast Asia. Maybe now, we can't claim that we have the biggest since of the limited space that we have for possible expansion of our market but at least we can claim for 2010 that we have one of the most beautiful public market in Southeast Asia.Ü

4. sustained good governance. 2010 would be a crucial for Naga politics since for sure we will have a new mayor, not anymore our beloved Mayor Jesse. Hopefully, yhe next mayor would still exhibit good governance.
For Iriga and CamSur, hopefully they can still have credible and reliable politicians who can lead, care, love and somehow show a good standard of governance.

5. more projects for Iriga and other towns in CamSur. It's about time that Iriga make a big forward in economy. It has a lot of potentials and resources. It is just need to be used properly and effectively.

6. no more tiangge in Plaza Rizal, no more pirated DVDs stall, no more substandard products to be sold in Naga. We are not helping to improve the look of our local economy / our local businessman. Most of the owners of these tiangges are not from Camarines Sur. (di nga marunong mag-bikol)

7. Improvements for Naga/Pili Airport. Hopefully, this year we can see some actions about this issue. It will boost our local economy. It means more local and foreign tourist will opt to use our airport if they have direct business in CamSur!

8. Since 2010 is election year... Hopefully we can have a new credible and reliable leaders in the government. Leaders with fresh ideas, service oriented and not profit oriented. We need TRUE SERVANT LEADERS!

9. More local and foreign tourist for CamSur. We still have a lot to offer to our visitors.

10. More high-class hotels and other business establishments. For big accommodation for more big gatherings/conferences/conventions in our province.

11. Pilgrim City, Light City, History and Cultural City, Convention Capital, Most child-friendly City, Most business-friendly city, most cleanest/greenest city (hopefully, we could have this again), highly urbanized city wakeboarding capital, extreme sports capital, best tourist destination in the region and soon in the Philippines (hopefully) and many more... - hopefully we could sustain these titles and regain some and have some more.Ühehehe

12. more taxis and less tricycle. To level-up our mode of transportation here in CamSur. less traffic and more well-mannered drivers (for all mode of transpo).

ano pa??? kayo naman...(you can add guys!) what do you want to see in Naga City, Iriga City and Camarines Sur in 2010????

*clap*clap* for the PSO. they should be vigilant in confiscating these things. It might cause great danger to all Nagueños, fire or explosion.

The city government should also be vigilant in confiscating pirated DVDs and CDs... Maating hilingon sa Naga, kun saen saen lang pati minasurolpot asin an iba may pwesto na talaga. They also have porn videos that are easily sold to minors.:ohno:

Since we want to promote Naga City as Pilgrim City, the city government with the church should work hand in hand about this issue.
If the church is concern with the commercialism during Peñafrancia fiesta, they should also be concern about pirated DVD stalls selling porn videos to the public especially during Peñafrancia fiesta. :ohno:

Yeah, as my sources told me. but the 200k is negotiable. Maybe thats the reason why KFC prefer to maintain their SM branch.

IN STA ROSA ...(to name just few) the same things also apply for your Metrobank and BDO trivia.

I know naman NAGA is economically stable and developed. Pero to make such claim is absurd.

hi dustin! thanks for visiting the thread. if you don't mind may i just help clarify the post a bit :-)

indeed what the post refers to is only the Bikol Region.

i don't think the claim extends to places outside Bikol. For certainly there are cities far bigger and more developed, hosting more banks and a much bigger number of bank branches.

if one follows the preceding pages of the discussion, one will see that Naga Boy's posts respond to a previous question raised re: banks in Naga.

thanks for reading. and good evening!

This one is taken from a news article from camsur website.

DENR reforest 210 Hectares of watershed areas in Bicol (http://www.camarinessur.gov.ph/?page=6&pid=100&id=229)

....Mt. Bernacci locally known as Tancong Vaca is a critical watershed area within the municipalities of Libmanan and Pasacao in Camarines Sur. It has a total land area of 2,975 hectares and is covered by four barangays, namely, Duwang Niog and Tanag in Libmanan and Bagong Silang and Salvacion in Pasacao.

The watershed is a major source of fresh water for drinking and irrigation purposes.

The forest area of Barangay Bagong Silang has Caranan and Itulan creeks, and a lakelet called Caliryuhan. It is the source of drinking water often adjoining barangays in Pasacao with about 1,000 households users and an estimated 8,000 family members.

Barangay Salvacion has Azul Spring, Muroc-buroc and Olaniban creeks, and Tinalmod River passes thru its plains. Tanag has Asupre ‘ Creek, Duwang Niog has four springs all located in private lands, two streams at Sitio Mensuro, which lies at the path of Malansad River.

The watershed of Tancong Vaca is the main source of irrigation water for the municipality of Libmanan, a major rice producing area in the Bicol region.

Guerrero said that aside from the DENR initiative to reforest denuded portion of the watershed, the agency has involved the communities in the area to protect and rehabilitate the forest land thru its agro-forestry development and livelihood projects under the community-based forestry program of the DENR. We know the skyway/bridge project in this area but I wonder how simple the design was and not as grand unlike the above pics.

it's very possible as far as I know... however, if we're going to stick to allocated budget, basic will do...

as per Tangkong Vaca... it is the name of the mountain as well as the guerilla unit that was formed there..(formed or based? dunno...) and thus, after Hakz made a research, Tangkong Vaca is undisputedly located in Libmanan/Pasacao area...

We know the skyway/bridge project in this area but I wonder how simple the design was and not as grand unlike the above pics.

Possible but it depends....:)

as per Tangkong Vaca... it is the name of the mountain as well as the guerilla unit that was formed there..(formed or based? dunno...) and thus, after Hakz made a research, Tangkong Vaca is undisputedly located in Libmanan/Pasacao area...

It's located in Libmanan, Pasacao and Sipocot areas and possibly Ragay too.

DOT expects 3M foreign tourists (http://positivenewsmedia.net/am2/publish/Tourism_24/DOT_expects_3M_foreign_tourists.shtml)

BAGUIO CITY, Dec. 30 (PNA) -- Three million tourists from abroad will have visited the country by the end of the year.

In a press briefing here, Tourism Undersecretary Oscar Payabyab said there could have been a lot more but for the global recession that is just beginning to wane.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who presided over her last Cabinet meeting for the year in this country’s summer capital, had been given the same information earlier.

According to Payabyab, the Department of Tourism (DOT) originally targeted five million foreign tourists. The lower projection, he explained, was due “to the contraction of outbound tourist traffic in our usual market, particularly Japan and Korea.

“The increased arrivals from China and Taiwan have enabled the country to make up for the loss,” he said.

He acknowledged that the severe typhoons had a negative effect, on the tourism industry.

“Baguio City, for instance, lost over 2,000 domestic tourists since it had to forego hosting the Advertising Congress because of the floodings and landslides,” he said.

He pointed out that most foreign tourists plan their visit months in advance. Thus, he added, the Maguindanao massacre in November could not have stopped those who had already booked their flights.

“But it may have discouraged those who were still planning their vacations,” he said.

He congratulated the media for the positive role they play in the tourism industry. From their reports, he said, foreign tourists learn where these violent incidents occur, and they are able to avoid these places.

He said that DoT keeps assuring visitors that the country’s popular destinations remain safe.

Also, Payabyab said, domestic tourism received a boost from the so-called holiday economics. He explained that the President always cluster holidays, and that enables workers to plan their vacations around the long weekends.

Among domestics tourists, Cebu City is the most visited destination, with Camarines Sur coming in second. In fact, the Bicol province was number one, with over one million local tourists recorded in the first nine months.

The third most favored destination is Baguio City and the rest of the Cordillera Autonomous Region.

Other favorites are Bohol and Palawan, which both achieved double digit growth in domestic tourism. (PNA)

hi dustin! thanks for visiting the thread. if you don't mind may i just help clarify the post a bit :-)

indeed what the post refers to is only the Bikol Region.

i don't think the claim extends to places outside Bikol. For certainly there are cities far bigger and more developed, hosting more banks and a much bigger number of bank branches.

if one follows the preceding pages of the discussion, one will see that Naga Boy's posts respond to a previous question raised re: banks in Naga.

thanks for reading. and good evening!

I certainly don't mind. Di naman ako nakikipag away. I am just stating facts. Maybe I didnt read the prior posts thats why I was misled. But then again I am not here for arguments. Kaya nga di ba sabi ko NAga is stable economically. Yung iba kasi all they know is to gang up. Minsan na akong nakarating sa Bicol and I am impressed with Naga City. Really I am.

Growing Clientele

http://camsur.com/images/stories/CamSurNews/growing%20clientele.jpg

More and more people with concerns with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) are opting to transact business with the latter’s satellite office at the Provincial Capitol in Cadlan in lieu of the Consular Office in Legazpi City. This is clearly manifested by the multitude that usually fills the lobby and the passageways of the main capitol building, as shown in the pictures at right every first and third Mondays and Tuesdays of the month - the regular schedule of the Gov. LRay Villafuerte’s Mobile Passport Service. Obviously, the shift is due to reasons of convenience and economy. Such was the case with these seminarians from the “Missionaries of the Poor” (left photo) who are bound for Jamaica, as part of their formation program, who had their passports processed at Capitol.

We are not mad at you and we are not ganging you up. Those are what we call sudden burst of emotions.

We just reacted to what we believe are offensive posts.

Otherwise, what you have said are true- but odious and unpleasant.

Again, thank you for visiting the thread Dustin. Let's be nice with each other and let's all be friends.

Good thing you take a picture of this ruin building ( which is now a store for pirated CD's ) . This old building was the FIRST SEMINARY before the Archdiocese decided to transfer the seminary next to the Naga Metropolitan Cathedral. That is why they called the street PADIAN. This building should be considered a National Historical site.
