Remember: A City's tallest highrise or notable highrise, would most likely be allowed, while the local Best Western will not. An innovative design like Foster's Swiss Re would be OK, but a slab like NYC'S AT&T Longlines Building would not...

I don't like it

This building is ugly and awkward when seen in a skyline shot or a wide pano shot. I agree, it's horrible. However, at street level this building is a wonder. The colour matches the two older blocks next to it perfectly, and the larger windows at the top make for an interesting perspective change. The overhangs are vertigo-inspiring from the street, and the window-washing machines drop down from the overhangs through trap doors. For a building of its period (late seventies/early eighties) this one is a gem. And, it's really nice on the inside too (unlike many of the buildings we admire from HK).

I care more about what a building is like when you exit the taxi or subway and walk up to it. How does it make you feel. I care much less about how it looks from a helicopter, boat, or distant suburban park...because people who use those things aren't going to use the building.

Look at Seattle or Houston: great skyline, but many of those buildings are disgusting up close. This Boston building turns that problem on its head: terrible from a distance, but great up close. Few Bostonians complain about this one, (and many local critics respect it) it just works.

Why it could do with some denisty around it to hide it a little still a great looking tower
