The riverfront has done so much to give the skyline a more dense look.

I hope the next wave of development sees buildings that far west that aren't on the river.

So thats what that is. I saw it on all the renderings of the other towers, and was like, why are they all the same. So this is what connects the buildings?

So thats what that is. I saw it on all the renderings of the other towers, and was like, why are they all the same. So this is what connects the buildings? Yeah....maybe tough to explain, but the entry road comes due south from NW 3rd Street and ends in a roundabout at 6 o'clock....at 3 o'clock is the Mint entry, at 9 o'clock the Cima entry, and at 12 0'clock is this water feature (pictured) that flows down to the river. The white surface is supposed to be a non-slippery terrazzo type stuff and the Riverwalk is open to the public and continues all along the waterfront and connects under the Miami Avenue bridge. Sooo....residents of Riverfront, are three walking blocks from Macy's, 3 (big) walking blocks from Mary Brickell Village, and 4 or 5 waterfront walking blocks from PrimeBlue, and the Whole Foods/Movie theatres, etc., and one block from the Metromover station.

HIGHLY doubt it, maybe just the walkway to the far end but not the whole "seating area" which I highly doubt will even be there in the final product anyways.

The River walk is supposed to go along both sides of the river. Pedestrian friendly is the main goal of this project. We'll see.

YEs the riverwalk is supposed to be open and accessible (eventually) on both banks of the river and its supposed to go from the bay all the way west to 22nd ave. As new projects get done the developers must build the river walk and it must be open and accessible!

"Eventually" being the important word. Right now its very discontinuous. I don't think its ever more than 2 parcels in a row right now.

That is correct. In dealing with developers and their rep.'s, they have told me it will all be connected and on both sides of the river. Their "plan" is to unite the projects with amenities (such as shops & restaurants) and even some of the common areas. It will be a good 5+ years until most of the land along the river is developed though and we see this.

It will be a good 5+ years until most of the land along the river is developed though and we see this.Actually, it is outlined on www.miamirivercommission.org in more detail...the Miami River Greenway Plan is an award winning plan put togehter by Kimley Horn. The Greenway extends from the mouth of the River to about the airport (about 6.1 miles).
I happened to work with the Miami River Commission about 5 years ago when many of the Greenway discussions and the plan was hashed out.
It doesn't necessarily happen on both banks at the same place. Because of some land owners have built their structures up to the river bank, you can't just barge into their space and demand a greenway (think "Big Fish").
For all new projects on vacant land or demolition permits...new land owners have to agree to a setback from the seawall of at least 50ft.
For those places where public right of way can't be added the greenway will be diverted to the street and go around the property and continue on the waterfront where it can.
It's mostly a practical matter...the greenway won't always be on both banks of the river at the same point along the river...but you can always cross at at bridge where the sidewalks will be friendly.

Absolutely love that plan and the fact that it stretches so far along the riverfront. That would make for a really interesting walk (albeit a long one) upon completion.

According to the website, they support the marine industry along the river and is part of their goals, to keep the industry there. You can read all about in the website Roark listed.

Based on recent articles though, it seems the county/city is ignoring the river plan as it applies to industry and approving condo developments in areas reserved for shipping.

A plan is only as good as the people who implement it.

I really like what I read on that website. Restoring the water quality, and doing that River Walk would make the Miami River a much more beautiful place, and ultimately more desirable.

Yeah, it's a great organization. Our Miami homer Jeb made sure it happened and the Miami River Commission has been doing excellent work since 1998. Civic projects take a lot of time....especially for those of us in the Internet era. Rest assured that Brett Bibeau (Miami River Commission's leader and senior staffer) is the most passionate and capable advocate that I've ever seen. This guy is tirelessly working to get the river dredged, the riverwalk implemented, and the quality of life for residents and the marine industry to work together in harmony.
The improvements from 10 years ago are stunning...it is very exciting to see where we go in the next 10 years. Water taxi's from the Airport to the Mint at Riverfront maybe?

I'm not sure where it's going to top out, but I don't think it is going to make it to 631 feet tall either. Riverfront turned out to be something of a disappoint to me. Ivy might be 512 feet, but I'm pretty sure Wind didn't make it to 501 feet, and the hardhats on the site told me that Cima had been cancelled. A security guard told me something will eventually go there, but it won't be Cima.

Yea, unfortunatey due to the downturn in the economy and real estate market, some buildings topped out shorter. In any case we still had a good run and maybe next time we will get taller buildings due to the less available land.

If conditions are right to put a building on that lot, it will look mostly the same as Cima...probably the same name, maybe not, but same design. 2007 groundbreaking at Cima was doomed about 2 years ago, they just didn't get enough pre-sales to get a construction loan.
I don't see why they wouldn't call the building Cima when they go at it again, but regardless, the design stays. The developer (Neo____) has an agreement with Key International (Ivy/Mint) to keep the designs of Wind and Cima that Revuelta drew up.

Moss & Associates Completes The Ivy Riverfront Tower in Downtown Miami

Moss & Associates, one of Florida’s largest construction management companies, has completed The Ivy residential/mixed-use tower in downtown Miami, a $121 million construction project.

Located on a 13.5-acre site along the Miami River, The Ivy is a 45-story residential tower with 504 luxury condominiums and nine levels of parking, in addition to restaurants and retail shops located at street level. A dramatic two-story lobby, dual high-speed elevator banks, resort style pool, full-service spa, steam room, sauna, and state-of-the-art fitness facility are among the building’s amenities.

Key International Development is the developer for The Ivy and its adjacent tower Mint, a 52-story, 1.3 million-square-foot residential/commercial tower that shares the same riverfront site. Moss expects to complete Mint in mid-2009. As construction manager, Moss addressed the challenges of working on a tight, urban site in a congested area adjacent to the Miami River, Miami Metrorail, downtown businesses and other active construction sites nearby.

About Moss & Associates

Moss & Associates is a privately held construction company that is ranked among the nation’s top 100 building contractors and third largest in Florida, with annual revenues exceeding $650 million. From its headquarters in Fort Lauderdale and regional offices in Miami, Tampa and Ocala, the firm provides design-build, general construction, construction management and preconstruction services for commercial, residential and institutional facilities developed throughout the United States and Bahamas.
