It's across the road from the other al attar tower but is not part of the same complex.

wow yet another 300m+ but doesnt bat an eyelid because there are just so many now. if this was in paris or london or Australia or sth africa ect it would be a super duper tall!!! and most watched structure ever but because its JUST another 300m tower for booming Dubai it becoming monotinous.

This is indeed a mixed use with part being hotel apartments operated by a Korean group.

So this tower seems to be back on track after over a year on hold. :) And it will have a new design. Emporis still has it with 260m / 61floors: http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=khalidalattartower2-dubai-unitedarabemirates . I'd have preferred the old design, but can also get along with this typical "Dubai style".

This is a nice addition to the wall of towers along Sheikh Zayed Road. Cruising there will be an increasing thrill, when Khalid Al Attar Tower and Ahmed Abdul Rahim Al Attar Tower across the street will be finished.

Indeed this building uses a thin spire to exceed 300m, but it's not cheating more than some other towers IMO, for example the Burj Dubai Lake Hotel. So I support this new thread! :applause:

Btw. the neighbour to the right (Palisades) is also listed as Khalid Al Attar Tower (54 Sheikh Zayed Road) with 116m / 32 floors / built 1998. So this one, referred to as Khalid Al Attar Tower 2 (56 Sheikh Zayed Road), will be more than twice as high, even without counting the roof spire!

The only thing that sucks is the name IMO. In general, the naming after a person isn't that cool, and many are fed up with all those "Trump Towers", and there you only have to keep a one-syllable-name in mind. I hope the Al Attar brothers(?) will choose other final names for their skyscrapers...

when will they begin to clad....this looks until now so ungly...but with cladding i am sure it will be excellent....

They should have kept the excellent old design (260m), just add a few floors, increase the height of the roof feature and integrate a spire on top to reach the supertall status. :ohno:

the tower is supposed to be green. the dark color might be the undercoat.

^^ Yes the bitumen-based undercoat sealant, however that's a sign that cladding instalation time is comming.

8 windows x 8 windows. really boring floor plate. but i enjoy how the extruded height rises up to a unique top section which gives dubai a great skyline./ the cladding looks ok.

This isn't a supertall anymore. I checked out the database on www.ctbuh.com and emailed them about this tower. They said they got the height from adnan saffarini who's the architect.

The height is now 294m

I mean, who designed this tower? The LEGO company? This has got to be the most unimaginative design for a tower this tall in the history of mankind.... Unless this is a poor spoof on Aldo Rossi (RIP)...

Yes, I hope the scaffolding won't last too long. Most likely this spire will be clad.

When we take a look at the render on the board (http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/8840/imresolt084yk1.jpg) from posting #1, we can see that the erected spire matches with the lower part, but there's a thin upper part as well, which is still missing. So I suggest that Khalid Al Attar Tower is NOT topped out yet, but up to 275-280m only!

So here's the top... very shiny rondel with that aluminium, but still not a magnum opus overall. I like the spire though, even without that thin upper part from the renders.

Btw. does that mean a change of height, or are the given 294m for sure?

Personally I'm not a fan of this at all. Very sloppy design in merging the crown with the main part of the building. I don't normally mention negatives in case it offends but in this case I had to.

I kinda like the top :dunno:
