View Full Version : Eurobasket 2011, Lithuania
whatever... September 16th, 2007, 09:21 PM Thought if Poland has one, why shouldnt we...
So, european basketball championship will finally return to Lithuania - first time after 1939, when the balts both hosted and succesfully defended their european crown that they had wonne in 1937. Back then Lith's were dominating european basketball world winning two out of three championships staged before beeing forcebly incorporated into USSR, adding also, that basketball for lithuanians means way more than football to brasilians or englishmen, rugby for australians or cricket to pakistanis - this championship is uber important for us. And thus we are preparing for it slowly, but with confidence.

Alytus arena
Capacity 5.500 seats, basketball / Status - planned reconstruction
Sports and recreational complex in a 6th largest town of Lithuania, located some 80km southwest of Vilnius, is set to undergo a reconstruction soon. Size of the main basketball hall should be expanded, just as it's vicinities and the complex itself, rebuilt, in a way to meet all of the Fiba requirements.
Alytus sports palace will serve as the 4th host to one of the groups in the first stage of the tournament.
Klaipeda Arena
Capacity - 7450 seats concert, 5486 seats basketball, 4100 ice hochey.
Construction is set to start in the beggining of the next year. Reason for that beeing, the planned relocation of V. Kniausius basketball school, with over 1200 kids. Arena should be finnished in summer of 2010. It should cost 108mln. Litas (~30mln. eur).
