ZZ-II September 17th, 2007, 08:34 PM i hope we don't have to move this thread to the highrise section, i read something with 284m as height
xXFallenXx September 17th, 2007, 08:37 PM very pretty.
the location looks great, btw.
AltinD September 17th, 2007, 08:39 PM i hope we don't have to move this thread to the highrise section, i read something with 284m as height
With 80 floors, a roof featurew and a spire ... I don't think so.
mikeleg September 17th, 2007, 08:40 PM This building looks quite similar to Q1, but it doesn't matter anymore...
Stephan23 September 17th, 2007, 08:44 PM ^^Yes, it is the twin. And the height of 284 should go to the top out section.
ZZ-II September 17th, 2007, 08:47 PM With 80 floors, a roof featurew and a spire ... I don't think so.
the render on their website don't show a spire as i can see.
AltinD September 17th, 2007, 08:51 PM ^^ But the models displayd do.
BlackSmith! September 17th, 2007, 09:05 PM Nice one, reminds me of Burj Dubai Lake Hotel a little.
Gaeus September 17th, 2007, 09:09 PM This is the first time I saw a render that just is pretty simple in Dubai. Excellent location though.
ZZ-II September 17th, 2007, 10:25 PM ^^ But the models displayd do.
time will tell :)
Sentient Seas September 17th, 2007, 10:58 PM Another awesome project for Dubai.
malec September 18th, 2007, 12:35 AM This building looks quite similar to Q1, but it doesn't matter anymore...
It's actually being created by the same developer as Q1 and it to be a sister tower. The website originally said 350m but now it says 284m.
Insane alex September 18th, 2007, 12:37 AM Where in Dubai is this being built?
Alle September 18th, 2007, 01:02 AM I like the model, it stand out good amongst the lower buildings. Wel see if it gets built aongst lower ones in reality. What a view that would be, a true eyecatcher.
CULWULLA September 18th, 2007, 01:03 AM the model with spire is actually Q1 on the Gold Coast, Australia, which is currently worlds tallest resi towe at 322m to spire (275m fin). the D1 i assure you is 350m to top of fin. there wont be any spire.
The reason why it looks like Q1 is because the developer visited Q1 last year and said he wanted same design, literally!!!
Q1
http://jimboland.hautetfort.com/album/architecture/q103.jpg
malec September 18th, 2007, 01:05 AM ^^ Are you sure it's 350m? That's what it said some months ago but the official website now says 284m, which makes sense considering it has the same amount of floors as Q1
http://www.d1tower.com/residential-apartments-dubai/building.htm
CULWULLA September 18th, 2007, 01:08 AM oh, it was 350m .now 284m? sounds right. Q1 has 78floors to 250m roof.
if D1 is 284m,this thread has to be moved to highrise.
malec September 18th, 2007, 01:11 AM Done
DG September 18th, 2007, 01:18 AM Where in Dubai is this being built?
near the new Business Bay Bridge.
Sander- September 18th, 2007, 02:15 PM I really like this design. Classic, yet progressive. Though I'm not able to pinpoint the location - would anyone care to point it out on a map? :)
ElVoltageDR September 18th, 2007, 03:52 PM Looks great. I love the Q1 in Australia, so I don't mind this one so much.
Dan Hochhaus September 20th, 2007, 07:29 AM Superb, another nice tall one for Dubai. :|
It's not so common that a design prototype is shown so frankly like here with the announced Q1/S1-sisterhood. Maybe the investors try to bring a little bit of Gold Coast livestyle to Dubai?
Although it doesn't look like a cheap rip-off, e.g. considering the sleek full-glass cladding of D1, whereas Q1 points out the floor plates.
The D1-webpage names Dubai Creek as the tower's location (http://www.d1tower.com/residential-apartments-dubai/location.htm). I remember that's the place of the first, smaller skyline with buildings like the National Bank of Dubai. But D1 doesn't appear to be placed amidst other towers, there's so much green around... is it far away? A solitaire? And what's the distance to the new skyline at Sheikh Zayed Road?

Dan Hochhaus January 17th, 2009, 04:52 AM After almost 9 months without an update here during times of a banking crisis,
I wouldn't have been very surprised to find D1 suddenly on some "On hold"-list.
But yesterday Imre came along with these pics on the Burj Dubai thread, labelling them "Burj Dubai, D1 and Versace Palazzo".
And I 100% trust him - so D1 is alive and rising :cheers2::

potipoti January 20th, 2009, 02:36 PM nice pics, thanks for the update :)
Sentient Seas January 22nd, 2009, 10:44 PM Ah, another great looking monolith for Dubai... I'm beginning to lose track...
Phobos January 24th, 2009, 12:58 AM ^^This is not a monolith.
Anyway,it's the kind of tower we would never see equal in any other city in the world
CULWULLA January 24th, 2009, 01:43 AM well its 284m to roof. one of the few WITHOUT a spire. all it needed was a tiny spire and would be a supertall.
even a 16m spire. it deserves a 50m spire. like sister Q1.
CULWULLA January 24th, 2009, 01:45 AM Q1 is 275m without spire. but 322m with.
http://img395.imageshack.us/img395/7382/olympiamodelym0.jpg
D1 is 10m higher but no spire.
http://img105.imageshack.us/img105/434/d1ae6.jpg
OMH January 24th, 2009, 03:14 AM The design is definitely very similar to Q1, but since its concept as a "sister" tower its no wonder...i like it a lot, and its also good that it doesn't have a spire, almost every skyscraper, esp. in Dubai, nowadays has one, so it's positive to see one without.
Btw, regarding the location, how far is it exactly from Burj Dubai?
CULWULLA January 24th, 2009, 06:48 AM http://www.d1tower.com/
its at dubai creek, only a few kms away

Dimethyltryptamine September 18th, 2010, 03:38 AM Stunning building, D1. If only it were taller it could have been one of the best in Dubai. It looks better than it's bigger brother, Q1. Will be interesting to see how Palazzo Versace turns out too, as we also have one of them here.
saeed September 20th, 2010, 02:14 PM I agree if taller is always better! but even though, if this height it will be in the top 80 tallest buildings in the world
thats not very bad if u ask me!

baigarman36 October 27th, 2010, 01:02 PM It simply sad that you cannot see that a cultural background is a necessity for a desireable city. Have you ever been in Europe or Asia, or even only New York / San Francisco (for example)?
Paying foreign architects and foreign low-income workers with oil money to construct endless lines of hotels and shopping malls will only deliver you a soulless accumulation of buildings, but nothing that is worth mentioning in history books.
Indeleble October 29th, 2010, 03:11 PM ^^+1

Nope, we have someone who likes to speak the truth, and someone who is too blind to see that.
Dan Hochhaus October 30th, 2010, 03:43 PM ^^ No matter who's wrong or right: such general discussions might kill any specific construction thread - at least it gets annoying after a while. :speech:
Especially if critics don't belong only for the topic's project, but for a city, lifestile or skyscrapers as a whole, they should be posted in Citytalk and Urban Issues (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=9) or in the Skybar (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15), AFAIK.
Of course the Dubai Creek area around D1 looks mostly like a bleak desert right now, but big developments need time. I bet landscape designers will surely plant greening and help to improve the environment in the wake of the property. And maybe there'll be a vivid neighbourhood in a few years - let's see.

Yes I'm a mod and I DO think before I speak, unlike the primadonna whiners I was referring to.
Now tell me smartypants, when moving to a place, what's wrong on looking how the quality of life is in the 21st Century, instead of glorifying how it was or wasn't in the 16th - 18th one?
Dirty new yorker July 5th, 2011, 05:43 PM Whoa I didn't realize how isolated from the downtown clusters this building is until now
DZH22 July 5th, 2011, 09:29 PM So, would this building be considered Q1's big brother or little brother? It is taller than Q1 in every way, except unfortunately the "official" way because Q1 has a pole on top and D1 does not.
Dimethyltryptamine July 6th, 2011, 02:37 AM Just says
"The tower is the sister of the world's tallest residential building, Q1 in Gold Coast, Australia. Although they will look similar, D1 will be structurally shorter, whilst having a taller roof height at 284m (932 ft). This is because Q1 has a roof height of 275 m (902 ft) with a spire increasing the total height to 323 m (1,060 ft)."

I think it would be fair to call them fraternal twins. I do, however, feel that D1 is getting the better cladding, basically the quality that I expected for Q1 based on its renders (only it would have been greener). They are both wonderful buildings.
AltinD July 7th, 2011, 01:53 PM The original plan was for a spire too and a total height of 330 meters or smth. I guess it was the height restrictions due to Airport vicinity that "deleted" it (we know the area is effected).
