View Full Version : Rate Yourself! How F$%^&-up are you really?

OK, since this forum continues to function primarily according to seemingly nationalistic comparisons that spark cyclical and often times hurtful arguments, I would like us all to openly rate ourselves according to a few categories I have listed below. I believe that by way of self analysis and public honesty we can begin to see how enlightened or narrow-minded each of us may or may not be! Perhaps this is a path to individual and/or collective growth... Or it may be another reason to start bashing one another. Let's see!

For each category, give yourself a rating from 1-10!

A) Nationalist (we all know this one)
B) Regionalist (ie: European, North American, etc...)
C) Cosmopolitan (definition: International identity with global consciousness and open-mindedness)
D) Religious
E) Emotional Intelligence
F) Intellectual Capacity
G) Architectural Knowledge

If you feel other categories should be present, please make a suggestion. However, for now let's stick to this initial list of categories in order to keep things simple.

B) Regionalist = 3/10 ( Somewhat European, somewhat North American and somewhat East Asian just cause I live(d) there for a while.)

C) Cosmopolitan = 9/10

D) Religious = 5/10 (I am officially supposed to be Christian, though in reality I live life according to my own philosophy/religion that is based on personal preferences, theories and certain elements taken from many cultures around the world.)

I am sure that the architects study math and science at the beginning just like the engineers. Plus, the first few years of Aircraft Engineering is basically Mechanical Engineering, which I am sure is very close to architecture!

E) Emotional Intelligence- 1/10 Emotions are a barrier to progress. You only move forward if there is no emotinal attachment to your actions.
F) Intellectual Capacity- Has anyone ever said that he was dumb? I think answering this question would actually mean you lack either Intelligence or Modesty.

Of course what you are implying is that you are both modest and intelligent. Upon a second observation however, you actually did answer the question without giving yourself a rating, whilst passing on your opinion and judgement. This is different than simply leaving a blank! So then using your statement and my 'pointless' analysis therein, are you also telling us you are not modest and/or intelligent? If you were modest, shouldn't you have given us a rating of your intelligence in order to show us that you too are dumb like the rest of us, and therefore kind enough to not show us how smart you are by writing a brilliant judgement codemning our stupidity? :)

Ah you caught me, all that jibberish about me answering the question must in fact truly mean that I did answer it. It does appear that you look at the simple fact wheather or not I actually had an answer and not at what that answer had to say or if in fact was answering the question in effect. You must be one of those 10/10, since you could not grasp the details of that answer. So my initial assesment of your intelligence level was not that far fetched after all.

For a guy that tries to write the present-continual tense of wonder (ie: wonders) and actually writes "wonder's" thereby managing to give a possessive quality to a verb, you really do have a lot to say. Also, those who "don't give a f**k" as you say, don't respond to what offends them... They simply go on about their lives, which by way of your reaction, you didn't do.

BTW, I'd love to see the picture of the caveman chasing the "mamooth". What is this "mamooth" anyways? Or did you mean to press 'm' twice and instead pressed 'o' an extra time just cause you were too uspet to calm down and take your time with your poetic response? I "wonder's" why... :tongue4:

He's a very progressive politician who cleaned up the Socialist Party from all its rotten members and loyalists of Fatos Nano, the previous leader.
Thanks to him Tirana emerged from a grey and dull communist capital into a colourful and vibrant city with a very bright future.
And he'll do the same for the whole country once he takes over as PM in '09

In a some research during olympic games in Salt Lake City, 70% of people thought that Croatia is a Russian province. U know...I really don't care, but if I can know and recognize every American state, and I only live in "miniature" Croatia, so why couldn't average man with normal education in America know what is Croatia. At least that it's a state. Neither a province, nor national dish.

Yes, I'm well avare of that. But anywayz...Afghanistan or any other "3rd world country" also isn't that important on world, but I know some basic data about them. Is that hard? No it isn't. It only shows my culture and good education.

I know every country of Europe (name, language spoken, capital(s), approx. pop., maybe important cities and other data... more or less), I know most of the countries in Asia, the Americas, Oceania and Africa. That doesn't mean that for each one of this countries I know the same things I know about an European country, but dude... when you say "Chad" or "Myanmar" I KNOW you're talking about countries, and I can locate them on a map. Also, the trick I saw in one video on the net, when some Americans were presented with a World map having swaped say Australia for Iran, doesn't work on me, except for some tiny countries in Africa... this is what I consider normality and somewhat more than decent knowledge of the world we live in. Saying Croatia is a Russian republic or Romania, a salad (yep! heard that one) means you're just an ignorant.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying only Americans are ignorant. I can think of some people I know that wouldn't be able to locate Croatia, know the capital of Switzerland (they might not even be able to produce the "Zurich" answer:lol:), or tell me on which continent is Laos. But all these people are plain ignorant, and I can assure you their ignorance is not limited to geography. So Masonic has every right to be pissed when some dumb *insert nationality here* thinks his country is a gourmet dish or something...

Errr....I really don't care what some US retard thinks about my country. You see, if he is dumb and negligient, that's his, not my fault and I don't think of any reason to be pissed off.

OH, and BTW don't blame so hard those guys. For example I can't recall the name of Chad's capital. When I hear the name of an African country...I know it's an African country, but at least for 1/3 of them I know nothing about. I don't know of anything significant that distringuishes between Chad and Namibia for example. I don't know much about those peoples' history and culture: they are all black, all former colonies of Europe, all poor, I know only about some African regimes that were racist to white guys and even performed genocides (that weren't even criticized by the UN, lol :) ). And I know this because I found it very strange in a book about world history.

I can't make any difference between Marocco and Tunisia for example. I've always thought Lybia is a poor country with a tyrannical islamist regime. Until I went to Sozopol, Black Sea together with the kids of a Bulgarian diplomat in Lybia, 3 years ago (they were friends of my friend...anyway). They told me many things about Lybia. And now I know some things about their country...not surprisingly, most Bulgarians hate Lybia and think it's some kind of underdeveloped islamist hell, that's what they keep on telling us on the media when they speak about the court trial of our Medics. But actually, Lybia has GDP/capita almost the same as Bulgaria, and they have great oil deposits with many foreigners working there. The road infrastructure of Tripoli is much better than this of Sofia, I've seen images.

About Iraq, everyone thinks this country suffered severely during Saddam's regime. But I got acquainted with a guy from Iraq, he fleed Iraq and migrated to Bulgaria during the start of the war with USA. Now he has a business here, a small chain of Duner Kebap places. He told me stories of Iraq during Saddam's regime. Man, they lived much much better than us. Better than most countries in the Balkans. He wasn't allowed to EU back then. Now he speaks Bulgarian very good. And despite his family did not like Saddam and though his brother was in Saddam's prison because he did not like the regime...this guy went to Bulgaria not because of Sadam, but because of Bush...anyway, what I'm trying to say is that most of us have a very skewed opinion about Iraq.

We simply don't know much about their culture. And shit, many Bulgarians are not even well-acquainted with the Western European culture, despite most people have been there, despite we're in the EU now, I've heard on numerous occasions those unrealistic expectations and opinions about the EU, radi6404 is the perfect example.

Anyway, the globalisation is kinda good thing. We travel more and more to foreign destinations...and though local cultures fade (which is sad)...we become more and more similar to each other. Now if only there were not so great contrasts between developed, developing and third world countries...ehhh...

bgrs, what you say is right. But what you don't understand is that I'm not pissed because X guy knows too little about Romania, my country, but because it knows nothing about it! I don't care if he's American, British, Polish or Bulgarian... it's the same, and it's called ignorance! And I'm not talking about some poor guy from the country, that didn't even went to school, but of people with at least high-school, part of the so called "middle class". Trust me, I see lots of these guys HERE! People that don't know the capital of Poland or Sweden!

On the other hand, I also know people that I can talk to without having to explain that Bern is actually the capital of Switzerland, and that Switzerland is that mountainous country with chocolate and purple cows... people that know BART* is more than a character in The Simpsons... why can't more people be at least 25% of that?!

See, D8Masonic, BGRS got my point as well, it's not that I think that people should not know where Croatia is, but that is does not matter if some arrogant asshole has no idea - it's his ignorance/problem (sometimes arrogance as well), not yours. We can only be relatively proud of having the idea of world geography/geopolitics while most of the Americans I have met could not show me, let say Poland, on the map for the life of them. I think it's a pity that people with so many resources available are so horribly ignorant of the world around them......but, oh well, they're the super power - there's no need to learn anything else in life (all the sarcasm is intentional).

ye but not a lot of people go to vacation outside the US. i think people have high expectations of the US. most people are educated but only to the sciences and arts, not the humanities and world cultures. few head in that direction. geography and world cultures are also not an important aspect taught during secondary school. most people will only learn of ancient greek and roman culture, the first and second world wars and thats it concerning europe. we dont even study the cold war that much and when we do we mostly focus on the fears of communism and how it affected US policy (ie McCarthy) not really the geopolitics.

The problem with the japanese language is the reading and writing. The japanese language has 4 kinds of writing (katakana, hiragana, romaji and kanji). You can see in a sentence all these 4 kinds of writing. Romaji means roman characters (used only for things like km, Kg, 4, USA, etc.). Katakana and Hiragana characters are ok : 50 characters everyone sou you can learn it fast. THE PROBLEM is the fucking Kanji (chinese characters). There are 50.000 strange kanji characters. If you know 2000-4000 is sufficient to read newspapers. For a foreigner 1000 is more than ok IMO ! I know only 300 and I want to know 1000 in one yearif it is possible. More than 5000-10000 kanji is ipossible even for the japanese peoples ! I think that an educated person in Japan knows maybe 5000 kanji. The rest of the kanji are combinations of the basic kanji !

I have. On a gas station in Texas the cashier girl notices mine and my German friend accents. She asks where are we from and being tired of explaining where the hell Germany and Macedonia are, we both just said we're from Europe. And she asked, where was that north or south of Texas? 12 years ago , Champs'Elises, Paris. me and a couple of friends exchange currency in an exchange bureau. After giving us the money and hearing us talk in our language the cashier says
"Spasiba!"(Thank you in russian) ...
we smile and reply "Not spasiba! Blagodaria! We are from Bulgaria." ...
The cashier is surprised and replies "Ooooh! Stoichkov! " :)
We smile at each other and say ...

"No ... Not Stoichkov ... Kostadinov! "

(Kostadinov is the player who scored 2 goals at "Parc des prences" stadium on 17 November 1993 when Bulgaria defeated France and went to the world cup instead of the french football stars)

I was amased but in that time Bulgaria was known with its football players, and esp. Stoichkov. 90% of the times you said Bulgaria , the reply you received was "Ooo, Stoichkov" :)

Absolutely true! Good for you that you speak Japanese.

I speak and write Madarin Chinese (advanced level) and I can definitely say it's been the best investment I've ever made! Knowing this language has given me the kinds of opportunities that 99% of Westerners can only dream of! I am also starting to learn Japanese and my goal is to have it and Korean down by 2012. So, I now have to start spending more time in Japan and Korea and I'll be on my way.

Errr dunno, I find it very strange. I can only understand some words cause they are common Slavic...but the language itself is very different. And I can't understand it in its written form too :)

Anyway, the dialect they speak in the region I was born is kinda most Russian-like in Bulgaria. I've never had any problems speaking proper Russian (unlike some stories about students in Pernik trying to speak it, hehe) when I taught it in school. Anyway, now I can't speak it, though I can understand it, almost 100%
