So am I right about [F]? [A] is a state capital, Illinois, I suspect, but until I find that other atlas ... I'm going for Illinois!

States of the USA with towns/cities called Springfield large enough to feature in a cheap atlas:

Colorado
Georgia
Illinois
Masssachusetts
Missouri
Ohio
Oregon
Tennessee
Vermont

Just a guess [B] is Missouri

[E] (with the freeways) is Ohio

I am sure there are more than 9. There are two Springfields right here at opposit ends of suburban Philly and at least one in New Jersey. For one of the majors I will contribute the one in Massachusetts (my favorite)

Yes, but what does that have to do with it?

These threads sometimes get a bit twisted .... my comment above referred to a posting a bit further back that there must be more than 9 Springfields in the USA.

btw, I live in Melbourne Australia, about fifty times larger than Melbourne, Florida. There's another Melbourne of note in the UK, but it's just a village (but where the former Princess Diana's family hung out).

Here's two things to think about (after the various states here have been resolved):

Which two cities in the world sharing the same name are the largest?

Which city name is most common? (is it Springfield? I have another suspicion).

F is Oregon?

So what is it that is so special about "Springfield" that every state has to have one? There probably are a few here, but I can't think of one offhand.
