Cultural and Educational thematic Destination
The Sanderson Design Group contracted - Master Planning / Design Development / Project Management
'Taman Tamadun Islam' is an interactive journey of Islamic monuments of the world. It is an entertainment and educational destination. The Sanderson Design Group was asked to provide the initial conceptual designs for the project and following the clients approval of these has now been engaged to complete the final design drawings, leading to the construction that has began in 2006.
The initial scope involves the design of a site concept plan for educational and enternatinment precincts, which include lagoons, a convention centre, Islamic gardens of the world, an educational theme park, wetlands and environmental reserves, and Islamic architectural images from around the world.
It also takes into account the provision for both public and official infrastructures such as offices and technical services buildings.

skyscraperboy January 13th, 2008, 03:55 PM Maybe this Feb I'm going to Terangganu. Hope to visit this place!
haze January 14th, 2008, 03:03 AM PM rasmi Taman Tamadun Islam 3 Feb.
teckkang January 14th, 2008, 12:26 PM I don't like the domes. Too fake!! they should use smallers panels for cladding.
achkeen10 February 2nd, 2008, 08:15 AM Taman Tamadun Islam dibuka sempena program Perkampungan Hadhari
Hadir sama, Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Induk Perkampungan Hadhari, Datuk Wan Hisham Wan Salleh dan Pengerusi Media Prima Berhad, Datuk Abdul Mutalib Abdul Razak.
skyscraperboy February 4th, 2008, 02:56 AM Malaysia's new icons get thumbs up
KUALA TERENGGANU: The prime minister yesterday hailed both the Islamic Civilisation theme park and the crystal mosque as iconic projects for the country.
At the launch of the theme park at Pulau Wan Man here last night, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said the theme park was the best way to reflect the principles of Islam Hadhari.
"Islam Hadhari has universal values that should not alienate non-Muslims. It is not a new sect or a new religion, but principles which guide and benefit all Malaysians.
"The theme park also has a seminar hall that can be used as a venue to promote religious understanding and encourage tolerance in multi-faith Malaysia," he said, adding that the park symbolised the goodness related to Islam.
Abdullah said although the park was made up of miniatures, it was enough to reflect the beauty and architecture of the Islamic era.
"To my knowledge, both the theme park and crystal mosque are the first of their kinds in the world. This will augur well for the tourism industry here."
Abdullah toured the replicas at the theme park and visited the exhibition at the convention centre.
The 23-hectare, RM250 million theme park, features replicas of 21 mosques:shocked:, including the famed Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, the Taj Mahal in India, the Al-Hambra in Spain, the Kaylan Tower in Uzbekistan and the Kudus Minar in Indonesia.
The crystal mosque, located in the theme park, will be officiated by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin on Friday.

By R.S.N. MURALI
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Crystal Mosque at the Islamic Civilisation Park in Pulau Wan Man here is to have wireless broadband access.
The mosque made of crystal shine glass and steel foundation is also equipped with the latest ICT facilities where sermons could be aired via the Internet.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the mosque is an icon, not only for Malaysia but also at a global level.
The mosque is part of the RM250mil Islamic Civilisation Park situated on a 23 ha site and is under the East Coast Economic Region (ECER).
Idris said the park has attracted a steady flow of visitors since Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi opened it on Feb 3.
"The park saw an arrival of 700,000 visitors in six days since its opening where the spillover affect from the enormous crowd, vastly benefited the local business fraternity and food operators," he said.

in Pulau Wan Man, Kuala Terengganu.
THE Islamic Civilisation Theme Park in Pulau Wan Man, Kuala Terengganu, is the latest icon for Malaysia and features 20 replicas of monuments from all over the world.
The central attraction is the majestic Crystal Mosque constructed with crystal shine glass and steel overlooking the scenic Terengganu River.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi launched the park on Feb 3.
Engineers for the projects comprised not only locals but also Australians and Europeans.
State Infrastructure, Public Amenities and Communications Committee chairman Datuk Wan Hisham Wan Salleh said the park was an attraction featured for Visit Terengganu Year this year.
The 23ha park costing RM250mil is also a project under the East Coast Economic Region (ECER).
Since it’s opening, the park has attracted 500,000 visitors mainly from Malacca, Kuala Lumpur, Johor Baru and Seremban.

- Aleppo Citadel, Syria: This citadel is a fortress built by Muslims on a hill in Syria. The mosque of Abraham was built there too.
- Great Mosque of Samara, Iraq: This mosque is located in the Iraqi city of Samara. At one time, it was the largest mosque in the world. It's minaret, the Malwiya Tower, is a vast spiralling cone (snail shaped), 52m high, with a spiral ramp.
- Al-Hambra Citadel Granada, Spain: This citadel is a city-fortress and castle of the Moorish Kingdom in Granada. It was built as a mosque during Islamic rule in Spain and the wall is decorated with fascinating stucco calligraphy of the holy Quran.

There are a few mosques in Malaysia which allow non-Muslims to enter if properly attired.
One of the more popular ones is the Putra Mosque in Putrajaya. I myself have entered many times and my overseas visitors love to visit the mosque because it is something unique and such visit give them a better understanding of the religion and in some ways - lessen Islamophobia. Some non-Malaysian forumers here could attest to that.
However that was pre-2004. After our new PM entered office, apparently it was 'under his instruction' that non-Muslims are not allowed in despite having worn the 'pink robes' provided by the mosque. I am not too sure if this is true but the security told me so when I asked. My aunt whom I brought there at that time aren't impressed and felt that it is quite snobbish of the authorities to do so. Afterall they have allowed properly-attired visitors in before during non-prayer hours. And most religious houses/places allowed visitations of people outside their faith. So why? :ohno:
OshHisham March 26th, 2008, 03:23 AM there's some misunderstanding among muslim/islamic authority themselves in allowing non-muslims to enter/visit mosques. actually majority believes and for certain degree i also believe mosque is a place to worship and not a 'tourist attraction'. it has to do with the MENTALITY of Malay Muslim, not ISLAM itself, you should know that...
so, despite being open for non-muslim tourists to see the architecture/structure of mosque, it is not proper for non-prayers to simply roaming inside mosque without proper attire...
you know, there was one time i bring my non-muslim chinese frend (a man) into a mosque and the guard didn't even care for that (maybe he thinks that guy is a muslim too)...so, that's why i said, if you really want to enter mosque....you should know the 'trick'...
you can't force others to follow you rule...but you can 'play' with the rule ;)
forrestcat March 26th, 2008, 09:37 AM I believe many Malaysians of other faiths respect Mosques as place of worship. But it's a pity we Muslims in Malaysia refuse to share them the place where we send our hopes and prayers to god.:)

By R.S.N.Murali and Shahril Che Wan
KUALA TERENGGANU: The Islamic Civilisation Park (TTI) here received 1.9 million visitors for the first ten months of this year, State Tourism, Culture, Arts and Heritage committee chairman Datuk Zaabar Mohd Adib told the state legislative assembly on Tuesday.
The Rantau Abang assemblyman said the figure was complemented by the arrival of a significant number of tourists during the Hadhari programme organised by the state government early this year.
The arrival of visitors was expected to escalate from time to time due to the activities organised by the agency commissioned by the state government, he said.
Zaabar said all the 21 replicas and monuments had been completed and the state government would spearhead its promotion blitz for the overseas market.
He said this in his reply to Muhammad Ramli Nuh (BN-Tepoh).
Zaabar said the “River Cruise’’ was one of the packages introduced to lure the crowd to TTI.
“The cruise is a selling point for TTI as visitors can enjoy the scenic view of Sungai Terengganu,” he said.
In another development, the assembly was also told that the state government had given scholarships to 20 local students in the aviation field for next year’s intake.
Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said (BN-Kijal) said the scholarships were also for those interested to pursue a course in aircraft maintenance.
Ahmad also said that the Sultan Mahmud airport here would handle 20 Haj flights to the Holy Land of Mecca from next year, hence turning the airport into a regional hub for pilgrimage tours.
He said pilgrimages from Kelantan, Pahang and Terengganu would use the airport to fly directly to Jeddah from next year.
In an unrelated development, Ahmad said the state government would upgrade the irrigation system in the city centre as one of the flood mitigation measures in the near future.
He said the upgrading was important as Kuala Terengganu’s drainage and irrigation system was obsolete and needed to be rectified to prevent major floods.
“Upgrading is costly and not the same as road construction.
“We have to look into several engineering factors right from the catchments areas to the outlets,” he said.
Ahmad said the irrigation system that was being planned included the laying of 25km long monsoon drains at the city’s south zone, the construction of four bridges, 11 triple culverts and two water gates that is estimated to cost RM90mil.
The second proposed project at the north zone is a 18km-long drainage system with three bridges and 17 triple culverts.
The projected construction cost is about RM200mil.
Meanwhile, the state government through the state Entrepreneur Development Foundation had set aside RM2mil to refurbish taxi services in the state.
State Rural Development, Entrepreneur and Cooperative committee chairman Datuk Mohamad Awang Tera said the money would be distributed to 200 taxi owners and each was eligible to receive RM10,000.
“Priority will be given to taxi owners driving outdated models,” he said when wrapping up his debate at the state assembly sitting.

KUALA TERENGGANU 21 Mei - Taman Tamadun Islam (TTI) yang menempatkan 21 monumen tamadun Islam dan Masjid Kristal yang dibuka kepada orang ramai sejak 1 Mei tahun lepas berjaya menarik lebih dua juta orang pengunjung sepanjang tahun lalu.
Pengerusi TTI Management Sdn.
