Congrats!
Chi-town August 1st, 2003, 03:57 AM Nice tower, but the base SUCKS. Although I guess a good pedestrian-oriented base isn't terribly important in LA...
7/10

SChristopher October 23rd, 2004, 12:04 AM I like this building a little, yet I dont like that it is mirrored glass and cheap imposing concret, good for 1970, bad for us. 6/10
soup or man November 19th, 2004, 07:39 PM 9.
The lobby is breathtaking. Plus the elevators are on the outside of the building on all sides so it'll give you stunning views of downtown LA at night,
DamienK December 15th, 2004, 09:30 AM 8.5/10. Glassy
mch08 April 20th, 2005, 12:28 AM People slagging the base on this one need to remember that it's on an incline (the entrance on one side is on the second floor) and must not have ever seen pictures of the inside. To put it simply, multi-story lobby under the glass is some of the most amazing multi-level architecture I've seen in person here on the west coast of the USA. Pathways that twist this way and that way, benches to lounge in on pods that hang out over the emptyness, directional signs attatched to the side of platforms give the appearance that they're floating in air. Glass elevators that drop your off on various floors of the lobby and go up through the glass and steel roof crawling up the outside of the hotel building.
The downside is that, because of it's age, the beautiful interior is a palace of concrete, with very little visible materials other than stone going everywhere. However, concrete isn't used like this very often, so it maintains it's ability to stay unique. The exterior isn't my favorite, but it works well in almost any light.

It looks a bit like a shrunken version of the GM world HQ in Detroit. Fancy, but it's so big that it looks stubby.
