I think our rich people only tries to keep a low profile because of taxation:) Many people in this country live in shacks officially. In the richest parts of Hungary. Our old PM had an old opel astra...again,officially. Although his wife owned a winery in Tokaj, and only god knows how much things. Every rich here tries to avoid fame and recognition.
And actually(no offence or anything),the 2nd richest romanian is(or was,I'm not sure) an ethnic hungarian.

It is Zoltán Teszári from Oradea/Nagyvárad, the owner of RCS and RDS telecom group. His most famous brand is DigiTV, well known in Romania, Hungary and Slovakia. The group's income in 2006 was 300 million USD with a profit of 120 million USD, according to Ziarul Financiar.

Is ZF an unreliable information source?

d29
September 28th, 2007, 12:25 AM
Depends what you read in ZF. Their first page stories - like this one on Teszari - are usually pumped up to sell more papers and they do fuck up articles about listed companies from time to time (which I suspect that it is usually done on purpose to manipulate the market).

The listing of RCS&RDS will clear things up. As far as I know, Teszari doesn't own the whole company. I've got nothing against him, but RCS&RDS is a shit company.

More and more I like socialism you know...not the Russian way though...

I'll never vote for our stupid socialistic party though, they suck!

BTW Spain and France seem to be much more socialist countries than Bulgaria nowadays. Though it may sound strange. And I liked them, indeed.

So ZF pumped up the story, and thr Hungarian papers pumped it up even more, that's why we read this :)

This must be totally false. Or, it is based on wrong data. BTW half of the country is said to earn minimal wage while some of them owns a BMW X5 an spends summer in Gran Canaria... I'm really curious t know how they do it :)

I don't know if one should be proud...or ashamed...to have anyone on this list.

Its a list of who's who in arms dealing, drug trafficing, prostitution and generally all things bad.

Not to say that being rich is impossbile without crime...but lets be serious for a minute...how did those people in Russia or Ukraine get to be so rich so quickly?? Something smells fishy here...maybe its that prostitute on the corner.

bgrs
September 28th, 2007, 08:54 PM
Well,I don't think any of them deals with drugs and prostitutes. They're...let's say...too low-profile. Whether some of them dealt with this years ago is a different question :)

Thats what I meant...years ago...then they made some money, bought some dead industries...a lot of under the table deals...and voila...they are rich.

They all started out somewhere though...

Errr...in Bulgaria, the Party helped them start. As a part of a clever conspiracy to control the economy after the fall of the regime. They couldn't foresee the foreign investors factor though :) And besides, most of them killed each other...

Thats what I meant...years ago...then they made some money, bought some dead industries...a lot of under the table deals...and voila...they are rich.

They all started out somewhere though...

Well exactly, they acquired some a lot of industries, put them back on their feet, killed off competition, bought football teams etc etc and then finally put the industry to work.

And invested their money in the country...prolly everyone on that list from Russia in Ukraine has a bank or two.

Industries where dead then but alive now.

BTW Im not defending them to any extent, the way they started and continue to do business is criminal (less so when you get rich, you dont need to be)

But it def. aint from hookers or cocain dealing.

Prices changed a lot...

If you came to Ukraine in 97 with 100 000$ from the States or some place with money, bought a shit load of property, and now turned that money around you would be in the multi million dollar range.

A house that cost 30 000$ less then 8 years ago can turn around for 300 000$ now.

Romanians...:poke:
It's a common mental disease for them - paranoic obsession with cities like NYC and London.
That's funny. Usually Romanians are "obsessed" with Rome, Madrid and... Moscow. At least many of them.

Probably because it makes Bucharest better somehow
How can that be? Do you really think that comparing Bucharest to all those cities I mentioned actually makes Bucharest look better? WTF?:bash:

Your signature seems to imply that you don't like Bucharest. Now why would that be?
It doesn't seem to imply, it actually implies that.:) Why would that be, you ask? Well, why don't you come over here and live for a few months and tell me what do you think. If you like it, good for you, as it means you like the kind of city Bucharest is. It's not that I hate Bucharest. Not at all, but if I were to choose what city to live in, Bucharest wouldn't make it to top 10... to say the least. Am I breaking the law by liking big (huge) so called world cities with a strong identity?

Bottom line is you guys should see my post as a childish reply to a childish "discussion", as I think we all know two things:
1) those billionaires won't make your lives better in any way.
2) billionaires in this part of the world are generally less legit than those in NYC, London, Paris and so on.

Also, don't hate me because I can be objective and admit Bucharest, and generally cities in EE are (for now at least) crappy cities. I noticed how anytime I say something bad about Moscow, you all get nervous about it, but when I say something good, it's all fine. Why's that?:)

P.S.: stop with this "obsession" thing about NYC and London. I've listed quite a few cities, not just those two, and these were only the ones from your list.
