Located in the heart of downtown Atlanta, the world famous CNN Center Complex is the global headquarters of media conglomerate CNN and Turner Broadcasting. The CNN Center Complex is also adjacent to Centennial Olympic Park, Georgia World Congress Center, Georgia Dome, Philips Arena, Georgia Aquarium, and the New World of Coca Cola.

The CNN Center Complex consists of two 14 story office towers connected at the top by an open atrium and a connected 28 story Omni Hotel @ CNN Center.

probably one of the most banal pieces of corporate architecture ever...it looks like a suburban office building sitting in the center of the city...an ugly fortress type building that resembles a parking garage with windows....this isn't architecture although the atrium is nice...the 28 story tower looks much better....sorry Westin but all I can muster is a 3.

edit: I only graded the first complex but I'd give the new 28 story tower a 6.

I agree it is a big hunk of 1970s concrete architecture. The inside is somewhat interesting and they have made good modifications to the exterior of the building over the past few years to make it more open and pedestrian friendly. Prime Meridian, McCormick & Schmicks, and Don Juan's all face out on the street now, replacing what was once just blank concrete walls. While it will never be an attractive building, if they continue to open it up to the outside it will become tolerable. Once the new Omni hotel opens, that will bring in more pedestrian traffic which should spur more businesses to open along the street.

Overall, I'll give it a 6.5.

An interesting note about CNN: The logo on the building is red with a white light that crawls between the letters and then goes out. However a few weeks ago the white lights went away. Why? Who knows.

I also think the Fox News billboards outside CNN show an incredible lack of class on Fox's part. I'm sure CNN has a set of equally tacky and classless billboards outside of Fox News.

I gave it a 7.5 only because I like the new Omni Hotel Expansion. It is the only thing it has going for it.

Yes! It used to have a big roller coaster and rides throughout the whole building. There was an ice skating rink in the atrium and everything. The indoor amusement park didn't last long and the building became vacant. Ted Turner, the founder of CNN, was looking for a building to run his operation in and he chose this one.

The 28 storey tower is great, but the 14 storey building is @$#% & poorly designed. The building on the far right could of been done a bit better in terms of design. It's a bit bland

I really like the inside of the CNN Center, it's nice with the shops, TV Studios etc. It was nice spending a little time there before watching a Thrashers game, the place was filled with fans:)

Any news on the blue high-rise to the left on the first rendering? It look really good, hope it will be build:)

this is a horrendous project from these pics at all angles. Again, the master drawing is a flat-out lie. It looks like a bad project from early 80's toronto. How in the world did this get approved???

I gave it a 3.5.....I thought 3, but I figure an extra half point for looking bright and clean. Some would call it a mid-rise at 14 stories. Almost doesn't seem fair to rate it as a 'scraper. From doing a search, it seems to have been built in 1975.

Atlanta is famous for atriums, but this one is a little short to be impressive. I like the way it interacts with the streetscape...it's an inviting, friendly building at sidewalk level. 7.5/10

As stated in the initial post, CNN Center consists of the 14 story CNN Headquarters and the 28 story Omni Hotel...but I believe that 14 floors is generally considered a highrise anyway.
