This will be Indy's newest convention hotel. It will be a collection of three Marriott hotels, the largest being a 1,000 room JW Marriott that will also include 24 condos. I realize it is just BARELY 300 ft. yet it is probably the most significant (and only) high-rise building being built in Indy right now...

The hotel complex will border Washington St to the north, Maryland to the south, and West St to the east.

Architect: Hellmuth, Obata & Kassabaum, CSO Architects
Other firms: White Lodging Services Corp

Construction is supposed to begin by the end of this year and be completed by 2010.

(Most likely the most flattering view of this otherwise unflattering building)

(You can see the MASSIVE roof & see where a green roof SHOULD be!)

(By far the most hideous picture of this pretty terrible project)

So what do y'all think? Personally, i hate this as much as i like it! Really, a "possible & viable" green roof would work wonders for this project! Any other thoughts? :cheers2:

I agree. If you look at the rendering with the "core" in the upper right corner, you will see a sort of "Indianapolis Style" with a strip of limestone topped with glass, limestone, glass, etc. for our highrises. Most of Indy's talls popped up in the 1980's, so you are right on.

They really, REALLY need to make this more breathtaking! Yet i won't get my hopes UP.

Better! But why dosen't this town do something creative and tall? I've been to Indianapoils but there is absolutely nothing in the downtown area that's screams...please visit again. It's just plain boring....

I moved to Indy from Lafayette, and there are many charming things about Indy. Its a great town, but outside of the monuments its really nothing special compared to other midwest cities. Just your typical railroad city. Though Indy's skyline is not daring or creative, it does age well.

The more I look at the new design...the more I love it. Indianapolis you need to be more daring...like this project. Just look at Louisville. Two thirds smaller yet extremely creative and artistic. Come on Indy I'm rooting for you guys!

I wish they would build something taller.

By the way, the building looks a little distracting for the baseball players, no?

Or is it just me? I can't concentrate with a beautiful skyscraper sitting in front of me.

holy crap. this is one of those pseudo-deus ex machina scenarios for skyscrapers. a truly awful design is approved and gets close to construction and then some divine city figure out there forces a redesign and we get something far more agreeable.

phew.

The newer renderings are much nicer. Is the façade polychromatic?

I dont think its too bad. I actually love the work of Hellmuth Obata Kassabaum, although I am not as impressed with this as I am with their other projects. :)
