by Cesar Pelli and Michael J. Crosbie
The Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, are among the architectural wonders of the world. The story of their construction is one of many challenges, and the resulting design, by Cesar Pelli & Associates, reflects a melding of East and West.
From the West, the Petronas Towers embody the great spirit of buildings that reach to the heavens, a spirit born on the plains of the American Midwest and now found on nearly every continent on earth. The towers reflect the latest technology in making tall buildings, with modern materials such as stainless steel cladding, which makes these spires glisten on the skyline.
From the East, the design embraces the architecture and decorative arts of Malaysia. When viewed in plan, the towers appear as two overlapping squares — interlocking heaven and earth — to create an eight-pointed star, which is further refined with half-circles between the star points. The spirit of the geometry is Islamic, the dominant Malaysian culture, and the geometric pattern is found throughout the country in screens, architectural ornament, and decorative arts.

rizalhakim December 11th, 2008, 07:07 AM Menara Petronas, Genting menang
“Terdapat lapan kategori dipertandingkan tahun lalu.

rizalhakim December 20th, 2008, 05:42 AM Taman KLCC masih terbaik

- Gambar ROY AZIS ABD AZIZ
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KUALA LUMPUR 19 Dis.

nazrey January 23rd, 2009, 01:19 PM Dinosaurs to roam at KLCC again
Bernama
2009/01/23
KUALA LUMPUR, Fri: Hollywood film icon Steven Spielberg would have been pleased. After a four-year absence, terrifying dinosaurs which roamed the Earth about 165 million years ago, have thundered back to the Petrosains Discovery Centre in the PETRONAS Twin Towers.
Thanks to ’DinoTrek 2’ at Level 4 of Suria KLCC, the discerning visitor is offered a glimpse into the lives of the prehistoric giants, through nine interactive animatronic dinosaurs.
According to Petrosains chief executive officer Tengku Nasariah Tengku Syed Ibrahim, ’DinoTrek 2’ comes with unique features which include hands-on activities meant to provide visitors with as much knowledge as possible, and yet have fun at the same time.
As they approach ’DinoTrek 2’, visitors will come across a ’talking’ bridge and by answering three simple questions, a gate will open to lead them back to a time when dinosaurs ruled the Earth.
Once in, visitors will be enlightened and entertained by interactive themed exhibits like Dino Quest, Dino Dig, Dino Chase, Dino Dance, Dino Puzzle, Dino Colour and Dino Quiz.
Participants get to reconstruct their own dinosaurs at the Build Your Own Dinosaur pavilion while the Meat and Veggie exhibits will teach them how to differentiate between the herbivores and carnivores among the dinosaurs, and ’feed’ them, accordingly.
The Petrosains Discovery Centre is PETRONAS’ social commitment in providing a rich and stimulating environment to enhance science literacy and appreciation for society and the nation, at large.
Opening hours are from 9.30am to 6pm from Tuesday to Sunday. The centre is closed on Mondays.

Alain Robert KUALA LUMPUR: French climber Alain Robert, also known as “Spiderman,” was arrested Tuesday after successfully scaling the 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers, city police confirmed.
Deputy police chief SAC I Abdul Samah Ahmad said the Frenchman was arrested for criminal tresspass.
It was Robert’s third attempt to scale the 88-storey structure, at one time the world’s tallest building.
According to earlier wire reports, Robert sneaked past security before dawn Tuesday and climbed to the top of Tower 2 of the landmark building.
The 47-year-old has climbed more than 70 skyscrapers worldwide, including the Empire State Building, the Sears Tower and Taipei 101, according to his website.
“We have taken him back to the police station for questioning and checking his passport. He can be charged for criminal trespass ... . He climbed the building without a permit from the management,” Abdul Samah told AFP.
Robert, clad in a black shirt and trousers, celebrated his ascent by standing with his arms outspread on the pinnacle of one of the towers as a helicopter circled in the misty early morning.
Eyewitnesses said he took less than two hours to complete the climb, and then fixed a Malaysian flag on top of the building, AFP reported.
“He climbed using his bare hands and reached the top very fast ... no security personnel noticed him or stopped him,” said Ee Wee Kiat, a cameraman who was filming the scene from the ground.
Robert first tried to scale the building on March 20, 1997, and made a second unsuccessful attempt in 2007 after which he was freed without charge.
Each time he reached the 60th storey before being intercepted by authorities.

rizalhakim September 3rd, 2009, 06:13 AM Tawan KLCC paling sukar - Robert
KUALA LUMPUR 2 Sept.
"Saya suka Malaysia. Terima kasih Malaysia. Memanjat adalah kegemaran saya, ketagihan saya," katanya.

nazrey December 4th, 2009, 09:16 AM Regus to spend RM7m on new lounge idea

THE Regus Group which offers outsourced workplace solutions for corporations needing flexible business facilities, is investing up to RM7 million for its new Regus Business Lounge concept.
According to William Willems, regional vice president for the Regus Group in Australia, New Zealand and South East Asia, the global economic crisis had created demand for the company to provide a flexible base for mobile staff to operate from.
"The current economic crisis and the rise of the mobile and home-based worker, is forcing companies to re-evaluate their workplace needs and ask themselves, if they have the right mix of space," Willems highlighted.
The recent IDC "Worldwide Mobile Worker Population 2007 - 2011 Forecast" report, stated the worldwide mobile worker population is set to increase from 758.6 million in 2006 to 1.0 billion in 2011. This accounts for 30.4 per cent of the workforce.
The Asia-Pacific - excluding Japan- will have the largest number of mobile workers throughout the period.
The region had 479.8 million mobile workers in 2006, and that number will grow to reach 671.2 million in 2011.
IDC is the premier global provider of market intelligence, advisory services, and events for the information technology, telecommunications, and consumer technology markets.
Willems told Bernama in an interview that the company was confident of recording double-digit growth for its Malaysian base, within the next 12 months, with the launch of its new business concept here on Thursday.
The launch is part of a global corporate roll-out to promote Business Lounges across the company's international network of more than 1000 Regus business centres in 76 countries worldwide.
Regus started its first business centre in Malaysia in October 1999 at the Petronas Twin Towers and has served over 600 customers.
"The new concept Business Lounge at the Kuala Lumpur Petronas Tower business centre is one of the first such facilities in the region, recognising the important role played by Malaysia as an international business hub," said Willems.
Currently, Regus has two other business centres, located at KL Sentral and Central Plaza.
"Workplace outsourcing enables companies to rapidly seize new market opportunities because the office infrastructure is already in place. This is particularly beneficial when businesses are setting up offices in emerging markets," he said.
Regus is planning to further expand its business centre in Malaysia next year, targeting places such as Cyberjaya, Damansara and Klang.
Meanwhile, the newly launched Regus Business Lounge, combines the resources of a state-of-the-art business centre with the relaxing, community atmosphere of a modern day coffeehouse.
It offers mobile workers a comfortable, professional working environment complete with a gourmet coffee bar, different types of workspaces and meeting facilities, and productivity tools that include computers, secure Wi-Fi Internet access at no additional charge, and high-definition videoconferencing capabilities.
Among the Regus customers are WiPro, Red Hat International, Path Solutions and Wood Mackenzie. -- BERNAMA
