this video didn't say much to me. It is a gorgeous building to me however, both infinity I and II need to be completed for that complex to truly take shape and become pedestrian friendly.

And they need to do something, SOMETHING with the south and west faces of the parking garage. 20 story blank concrete walls just aren't acceptable.

VisionMIA
November 21st, 2007, 08:32 PM
they could paint it..cover it with royal palm trees...put a big infinity sign logo that glows on that concrete wall and in front a lighting show water fountain in front..that would be bad ass and pedestrian friendly...

Ive been saying it, this building is a disgrace at the pedestrian level. If Infinity 2 doesnt rise, this building will be have 3 blank walls for years to come, with the smallest side being the onyl one which is addressing the street. Its really a shame that they didnt address the south side, which is going to be accross from capital. That would have been a nice street one day, remeniscent of NY.

I agree on the south side being a tragedy. The west side I at least understand since it fronts another property (as opposed to a street) who could conceivably at some point in the future build something there that abuts the podium of Infinity and the east face could one day be covered up by Infinity II. The south face faces the street so they had no excuses there.

Wow...I somewhow missed this thread before but yikes! That is damn ugly.

This is why I keep saying Miami needs to mature a bit with this stuff and stop acting like every development is manna from heaven. Some of it is garbage architecturally and adds nothing to the vibrancy of the city---it detracts from it, in fact, when something like this Berlin Wall of concrete appears.

Doesn't the existing Design Review Board have any teeth to enforce things or people with genuine architectural credentials? Stuff like this should NEVER happen.

Arkon
November 21st, 2007, 11:34 PM
u would think the city of miami wouldnt let developers put up 13 story concrete walls...

is this happening because they intend to attach these pedestals to buildings right next door like infiniti 2 and capital? 500 brickell has a plain wall in the back because they intend to build the third tower (someday)...

is this the case for 10 museum's flat wall?

I went out to eat in Brickell Village again tonight and took a walk over to the Infinity site afterward. I rather like the way Infinity I is shaping up over all. I actually like it better than I expected in spite of the wall. The lines of it do look rather futuristic to me over all now, as does 500 Brickell with its skybridge as viewed from South Miami Avenue and SW 13th Street in front of the Infinity sales office. The view of Infinity I from in front of P.F. Chang's at 9th Street and South Miami Avenue, that I mentioned earlier, reminds me of the rook of a castle and adds to that giant DisneyWorld kind of effect that a lot of the new brightly colored skyscrapers with balconies are giving the city. I can hardly wait to see what that corner is going to look like with Infinity II and Capital I & II in place. The end of 2010 perhaps.

I hate to say it Q, but "brightly colored DisneyWorld skyscrapers"-- I would think...has got to be one of the least desirable descriptions of a new building.

http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/4086/buildou7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

I know what you mean---(futuristic (in a retro way)
etc etc) but this stuff does not happen by mistake. Disney architecture is designed for the good folks who think Shrek is important cinema.

They are usually very short people. And it is important that architecture addresses everyone. And there are exceptional buildings that get the title Disney architecture.

But I don't think lumping many things into that classification serves very well.

Thanks for the feedback, Arch. I'll keep that in mind! :bash: But regardless of how anybody feels about the designs, most of Miami's skyline will consist of 21st century architecture, and to me it is starting to look somewhat surreal.

Infinity will be starring in a Canadian commercial:

Brickell building to star in commercial

South Florida Business Journal

The sales office at Infinity at Brickell, a 52-story luxury all-loft condominium tower will be staring in a Canadian version of a Lean Cuisine Spa Meals commercial.

DYL Group, which is developing the project, said in a press release that the building’s see-through windows made the perfect backdrop for the 30-second spot, which will air for one year in Canada beginning late next month.

The commercial features “a confident woman who eats Lean Cuisine Spa Meals and is pleased with the reflection she sees in the window.”

The 459-skyloft residences are nearing completion and should be done before the end of the year.

I agree, one can only take so much white on white on white on pastel on white! This looks more deep.

Marky mark, if you have a split loft unit with city views you just might have a unique product that stands out amongst the rest (just as long as they don't build infinity 2!) and if you bought at prices below boom peak it might not be such a bad idea to close on it. Plus that area is going to be really appealing with 1450 brickell and it's plaza shared with one broadway, along with segafredo, novecento and a quite a few other places that bring that portion of brickell alive (specially at night)... just my 2c

Thanks for the shots MarkyMark. What is your impression of the building?
My impressions of the building is that yes...it is very masculine and it is a pleasant change from the boring white plain condo buildings that dominante Miami. What I love the most about the building is the architecture. Borges and Associates did a great job on this one, and they should be proud of how it turned out for the most part.

Any disappointments? It really depends on your initial expectations. The quality of the materials they used inside was fairly standard with most new condo buildings. So I would not regard it as highly luxurious. The fit out is probably similar to Plaza on Brickell on the inside of the condo. Cabinets are the typical european cabinets with stainless steel appliances. The balcones are made from metal as opposed to glass, which I knew from the beginning would be the case...but they don't look too bad....still very modern. Amenities are fairly standard....nothing spectacular but nothing too tacky either. I did not get the opportunity to go to the Club Infinity on the 50th floor...but I heard the views are amazing...and this is one of the top selling points of the penthouse units in the building because they have exclusive use of this facility. Most of the new condos here in Miami don't have a roof top lounge so this is a definite plus.

My biggest disappointment with the building is the size of the two story loft units. The building is dominated mostly by one bedroom loft units which are small ...partly because it is the way they designed them, and partly because of the stair case taking up alot of the room in the living room. If you live in one of these lofts, you have to be really mindful of space efficiency.

Depends on where you live now.
Infinity is in an incredible neighborhood. I work practically next door and there are a great variety of options in the neighborhood. Last night for instance, we grabbed a bite and drinks after work and took the Metromover to the Heat game. Then walked back to the apartment. Tonight similar thing...tomorrow, the girlfriend and I will walk to the International Book fair. this week, we will walk or take the metromover to the Cirque Du Soleil event in Bicentenial park, and there are tons of networking events, professional functions, and happy hours throughout the week and you never have to use your car at all. If you have a passion for Skyscrapers, you are in heaven for the whole walk!
As for price, if you didn't use a real estate professional to buy your place at the opening price list in the first place, get one now and make sure to close at the right price.

I really don't think that there is a better neighborhood outside of South Beach.

So what is considered to be the "right price" in this market? Most of the units at the Infinity were sold at around $380-$450 psf+. The only condos selling these days are foreclosures and short sales at less than $250 psf. I would have to hold the unit for atleast three to five years to get my money back. Are many developers reducing priciing to get people to close? How much are they reducing prices by?

Are many developers reducing priciing to get people to close? How much are they reducing prices by? Hard to say, what layout, what view, what price list, etc.
Most of the decision is going to be personal.
What is your situation...are you an end user or is this for investment? Example, if you paid $375 per sq ft and something in the Vue sold at $200 and you live in Homestead and work in Brickell, do you walk away from your deposit and keep commuting?
Would you rather walk from your deposit, and instead put down another deposit in the Vue?
If it is an investment, what is your portfolio like, is this your only real estate holding...you get the idea.
People are closing on their pre-construction units, not many are buying resales. There are great opportunities to buy brand new Class A condos new instead of used...new pre-con units do not show up in MLS statistics.
Like I said, you need to speak to a real estate professional (ideally, a Realtor, one that has been a full time practitioner for at least 5 years, owns their own home, and owns at least one investment property. You'd be amazed at how few there are).
If quality of life is important to you, Infinity will provide an exceptional one if you are going to live in it. If it is an investment and you have negative cash flow by renting, how much? If it is $500 per month...that is $6,000 per year...are you walking away from a $60,000 deposit?
Walking away from a 15% deposit is a gauranteed negative return, for some people walking away makes sense, but not very many.

I really don't think anything is going forward in 2010. Maybe in 2011. We might see somebody start work on Met3's parking pedestal in 2010. It would have been nice to have gotten a new tallest out of the "boom," but the reality of how I truly feel without the hyperbole is that I'm grateful for what we got all at once. It's very unusual for a city to change as radically as Miami just did, new tallest or not, and developer interest is still very strong.
