View Full Version : Santiago and Cauayan Cities, and Isabela Province - Compiled Threads
296619 May 22nd, 2010, 10:10 PM I have wonderful memories of Isabela specially santiago.
Yung mga tao very hospitable.
Minsan balik ako. Mukhang marami ng developments at marami ng pagbabago.
Try ko pag medyo lumamig na ang panahon...I'll set my calendar for my second visit. :)
Hi Dustin. Thanks for posting in this thread. Hope you can revisit our province soon. Thank you ulit and more powers!:)
Ephesus29 May 23rd, 2010, 02:24 AM I have visited thread of Legaspi city and Albay , and I was fascinated by all the stunninly superv sights that were posted. The tourist attractions that the city offers to its visitors, I thought are all captivating. The aerialview of famous Mayon Volcano is equally brilliant. How wonderful it is..
296619 May 23rd, 2010, 03:25 AM DELETED!
Hi Sta. Maria... Your town is really exceptional. Those figures are really high for a town and its even higher than the income of other cities. For Santiagos part, its income had reach the 800+ million mark last year making it the third, if Im not mistaken, highest income earner in Luzon outside Metro Manila:)

Yep. Legaspi City really has a stunning aerial view. It became even more captivating by the presence of Mt. Mayon. :)
If only we can establish an airport here in Santiago, then I may have the possibility of getting a picture of it from above;) but I dont think it will be more captivating than that of Legaspi.
Thier province is endowed with lots of Natural Wonders. Ours is yet to be explored. There is no road directly linking us to a beach and Palanan is still secluded. We however have a Sierra Madre Natural Park. :)
Brandon32 May 23rd, 2010, 05:02 AM ^ it would be nice if you could post pictures of sierra madre mountains, and other interesting places in your city....that's what we do in the legazpi thread to promote the city

wow! that's huge! legazpi city's income last year was just half of that amount...magaling din ang city mayor nyo...

Yep. Siguradong tataas pa ang collection dahil based on what i have noticed mukhang ina-allow nila ang understated income and revenue ng mga taxpayers pero paakyat ng paakyat every year yung amount.
Diyan sa tingin ko nagkakaproblema as alleged by many Santiaguenos.

I am positively sure that Isabela and the rest of R2 (Stgo, 2gue, Cyn. Ilagan)
have a lot of interesting sights for the locals, and foreign visitors as well if only we can spend extra effort to actually explore and expose our hidden treasures along the Provincial waterfront (Coastal towns on the eastern seaboard of the Province) . The best of Isabela I thought is yet to come. For a starter, the plan to build a road that will link the interior to the coast is a positive step. That would bring a lot of economic and tourism development in the coast. Hopefully , it won't encourage more illegal logging in the area. That would be totally devastating. Regarding aerial view..Chopper I thought would do. No worries, you're actually doing a great job. Cheers.....

There's actually a plan to build a road connecting Ilagan to the coastal town of Palanan. But this is being opposed fearing that such would eventually cause the destruction of Sierra Madre.
The question now is how would we reconcile development with the preservation of Sierra madre? I believe the road is vital for the development of the coastline of Isabela specially Palanan. habang buhay nalamang bang magkukubli ang mga tao dun sa lugar nila?
We have to work more, and be very vigilant if we really want Isabela to move forward and at thesame time, preserving what we have.
This is just my opinion and everybody is entitled to his.

Siguro nga hindi muna ngayon, but I'm not of the idea na forever nang walang gagawing daan for Palanan kasi kawawa naman mga tao dun. But the provincial govt. should find a way para sa transportation ng mga taga Palanan at para naman mautilize ang potential ng town na ito at iba pang coastal towns ng Isabela. Isabelinos should be empowered and be educated about the importance of the Sierra madre park.
So mukhang kailangan pa ng time para mapagaralan ng mabuti kung saan gagawin ang daan in case at para ma-orient din mga tao.

I couldn't agree more. Both parties (leaders/Isabelinos) should compromise a workable solution. Remember that Sierra Madre is a "UNESCO" heritage. There is a lot of weight to it. Although I strongly object to any activities that would compromise the integrity of the "Sierra" I am also infavor of development. The only way to develop the eastern seaboard and be able to explore its potential tourist destination is by building a road. Its a shame if the coastal people doesn't have an easy access to the interior and vise versa. I just hope the welfare of all stakeholders comes first before politics and profit.

I am not from Santiago, but I understand where Santiaguenos are coming from and so with you being from Baguio city. There is no doubt that Bagiuo city is way better than Stgo. or Dagupan being the Port city and Financial center for Northern Luzon. "Queen city of the North" I thought is a nickname given for Stgo. being a 16 year old teen city, if you get what I mean. Comparing apple to orange I thought is just bit off. Santiaguenos, has every right to call their city "Queen city of the North" since they see it fits. Nothing you nor I can do. Considering that Stgo. city is just an emerging city, I thought they have gone quite a long way for such a short period of time, think about it. In terms of revenue collections, they are 3rd or 4th in Northern Luzon, and Assets...3.8 b. I'd say STUNNING..and wow. By the way, would you be inclined to compare a granma (born 1900's) a mother (born 1940's) to a teenager of 16. Take your cheap shot somewhereelse, buddy!!!
Ephesus29 May 24th, 2010, 07:38 AM Thank you 296619 for your posted Isabela Tour Pagkage Information. It is awesome to know that there is a place to call "Tourist destination" in Isabela. I am positively sure that there are still abundant potential tourist attractions that yet to be explored. This is just a the beginning. Thanks again...

Hi William. Yep, malaki nga tax collection dito... Noong una inisip ko rin kung papaano lumaki ang collection ng ganun samantalang home to 130,000 plus people lang naman lugar namin. Pero yung volume kasi ng tao dumadagsa sa amin umaabot ng 400,000+ a day based on my estimate ha. ^^

Yep... May link dito showing the very thick forest of Sierra Madre, hanapin ko lang.

very nice photo.. we want more...
gatestar May 25th, 2010, 06:00 AM I am not from Santiago, but I understand where Santiaguenos are coming from and so with you being from Baguio city. Take your cheap shot somewhereelse, buddy!!!
gatestar May 25th, 2010, 06:05 AM Ilagan is a 1st-class municipality in the province of Isabela, Philippines. It is the capital municipality and the largest town of Isabela (for land area and total population). According to the latest census, it has a population of 131,243 people in 24,085 households.
The conversion of Ilagan, Isabela on February 2, 1998 (RA 8474) for cityhood would have made it the largest city in the province. But the plebiscite held on March 14, 1999 turned down its bid for cityhood under the Administration of former Mayor Mercedes P. Uy. The majority of the people voted no in that historic event. It has 72,365 voters according to the 2007 elections.
Ilagan, Isabela is politically subdivided into 91 barangays. Ilagan has the most number of barangays in the province of Isabela.
Human
The rapid increase of population in Ilagan is attributed to the current growth in economic activities especially in the sectors of Commercial, Industrial, Agricultural and Housing.
Statistics from the National Statistics Office showed that Ilagan has a total population of 79, 336 in 1990 and 99, 120 in 1995 with an annual growth rate of 2.5%. At present, the total population of Ilagan is 121,390. Using the projected annual growth rate of 2.5%, the population is expected to be 121.097 in 1999, 126,606 in 2001 and 323,121 in 2008.
People who wish to make Ilagan their home could choose from a number of premium subdivisions that best suit their lifestyle.
Industries
[edit] Furniture Making
Ilagan’s major industry is furniture making. Several furniture shops, located along the National Highway in Barangays Alinguigan 2nd & 3rd, manufacture and sell furniture made of quality narra wood. These barangays comprise the so-called Butaka City of Ilagan, where the Guinness Book of Records' entry for the biggest armchair in the world, the Butaka, was manufactured.
[edit] Food & Beverage
There are several food and beverage companies in the municipality. The largest of which are the Coca-Cola Company which operates a softdrink bottling plant in Barangay Osmeńa and Jack Confectionery which operates a wine fermentation plant.
There are 15 bakeries/bakeshops and 1 ice cream/ice drop company.
Aside from a number of Cafes and Restaurants in the town, two popular fastfood chains opened their respective branch in Ilagan; Jollibee and Chowking. These branches are conveniently located along Maharlika Highway, near the New Public Market.
[edit] Agri-support Activities
Most of the industries in the town are agri-based. For the past ten years, there has been a great number of local investment in poultry and hog raising. At present, there are seven poultry contract growers and 33 small and medium scale hog raisers in Ilagan.
Other support facilities, warehouses and small rice mills, strategically located in different barangays of Ilagan address the storage needs of farmers during the harvest season.
[edit] Jeep and Tricycle Body Building
There are 9 motor vehicle assembly shops in Ilagan; 5 jeepney assembly shops and 4 tricycle sidecar makers. These motor vehicle assembly shops respond to the increasing need for transportation service in the municipality.
[edit] Hotels
There are several hotels located in Ilagan. These hotels are mostly located in the town center. These are the D'Infinity Hotel, Hotel Romans Ville, San Antonio Hotel, and Marjs Hotel.
[edit] Real Estate
The Brent-Nathan Realty and Development Corporation (BNRDC) nestled one of their projects in the foothills of Ilagan, Isabela. The most prestigious gated community now recognized and fondly called Francisca Village Phase I and Francisca Village Phase II, the Landmark of BNRDC’s contemporary standard of majestic homes that embody the ideal of comfort and convenience. It showcases beautiful homes with impressive split level configurations that offer an unparalleled view of the breathtaking natural environment and a perpetually cool and calm surrounding found in a 46-hectare site. These masterplanned communities have been duplicated in two other BNRDC Villages; the Brethan Subdivision in Marabulig 1, Cauayan City, and Pascual Village in Roxas, Isabela.
[edit] Commerce and Trade
Ilagan has two major public markets; the old Pamilihang Bayan ng Ilagan located in the Poblacion and the newly constructed multi-million peso New Ilagan Public Market Complex in Baligatan. The increasing number of market goers, coming from within the town and adjacent municipalities, prompted municipal officials to facilitate the construction of the modern market.
The AM City Complex in Alibagu will be opening soon; this will open new doors to commerce and trade. Located within the complex is the Northstar Mall, the flagship mall project of the North Star Group through its local property subsidiary AM City Realty. The 400-million peso mall features cinemas, specialty shops, an SM Savemore Store, a National Bookstore,an ACE Hardware, TIME ZONE, CDR-KING several restaurants,Convention Center, 5 Star Hotel and amusement centers. This development aims to provide a one-stop center where people of Ilagan and near-by towns could shop, eat, and have fun.
Another development taking shape in Ilagan is the Talavera Square Mall. The mall will showcase a Robinsons Supermarket branch, Shopwise and Mc Donalds.
Hi gatestar... Yep. Ilagan is more populous than Santiago (2007 figures). Hindi ko lang alam ngayong 2010. Ilagan and Tuguegarao are more populous by 5,000 and 3,000 respectively. When it comes to population density, Tuguegarao is the highest at 1,200+ per sqkm, then SantiaGo is 500 per sqkm. Ilagan is only around 100 per sqkm. But here is the catch, Santiago's city proper has a population density of 5000+ per sqkm, and during business hour, umaakyat ang bilang ng tao to 400,000 per day ( based on my estimate yan ha.)... Sabi ko nga, nagtaka rin ako, bakit lumaki ang income ng Santiago ng ganun until I figured out na dumadami ang tao every business hour at maraming local taxes.
At ang main key ng Santiago is the location. All major roads of Cagayan Valley nagmemerge sa Santiago. lahat ng mga goods dumadaan sa Santiago... Yun.

Pero dahil may mga bagong commercial centers na ang R2 like Tuguegarao and Cauayan, syempre nabawasan ang market ng Santiago, kung baga wala nang monopoly, and this ushered for a faster progress of the whole region. But Santiago continues to be the leading Commercial center. Though there is no competion among these three cities of R2 ha - they work hand in hand. If I'm not mistaken, each has its designated function or specialization. ^^:)

Hi William:D; I am definitely sure that Santiago city is not highly urbanized. I think its the city's geographical location that attributes to its success as commercial center. For a starter, Santiago is not only the gateway to Region 2, but also a crossroads to other provinces in Norther Luzon. There are 2 alternate route going to 2gue, from Santiago, via Roxas and Ilagan. I think Banaue is accesssible from the city as well. Quirino, N. Vizcaya, and the rest of R2 are the greatest sources of the city's trade and commerce. Would I be surprised that Santiago managed to get to where it is now YEAH!!!, but they worked hard. Congrats.....
Ephesus29 May 25th, 2010, 08:56 AM Hi 296619; Awesome/stunning aerial photo of the Sierra Madre, Thanks man. I heard about the "Honeymoon Paradise"? in Palanan, any thought about this. Would you please fill me in. Any info would be muchly appreciated. Let's promote our cities in R2, and the eastern seaboard of Isabela. Cheers

Well, I've been surfing the web for quite sometimes, and I came across this "Honeymoon Paradise"? in Palanan. I won't be surprise at all if the waterfron of the Isabela's eastern seaboard has several hidden petential tourist destinations. I am absolutely positive that the best of Isabela's tourists attraction are yet to come. Although I am now living abroad for number of years, I am definitely sure that sometimes in the future, I would be basking in the sun in the beach of the Provinces' coastal town. It is just waiting to be developn, if however that will ever come. Hopefully it would.

Unfortunately, I can't comment on urban planning for the city of Santiago. I would suggest that
if you are interested to know what their long range planning, try to contact the city's engineering and planning department. I would assume they'll be happy to fill you in. Cheers

Ang ating SJDM City ay may 439,090 population as of 2007 pero mas mababa pa ang income nito kaysa sa Santiago City na mayron lamang 100,000+ na population!

It doesn't surprise me if somehow Cauayan city is more familiar for Bulakenos than Santiago. Let me guess, there is a bit of connection I thought. The Dy family, for one Mrs. Natividad de Guzman Dy, is from Valenzuela, the former Provincial Engineer of Isabela, Casiano Darcen Alejo is from Baliuag, and several business people made Cauayan City their home. Mind you the Dy family has bussiness in Valenzuela as well. Cheers
Ephesus29 May 25th, 2010, 10:37 AM Guys, on this thread, I do believe that every one is doing his/her best to make this forum friendly as posssible. Forum for everyone to inform and to be informed. Screwing one up is unacceptable. Remeber, we are all Pinoys. Cheers
Ephesus29 May 25th, 2010, 10:48 AM Populations doesn't always translate into more dough in the city's coffer. Trade and commerce do. Numbers of business relocating into a city has a huge impact in the city's treasury. Stgo. has always been in the frontline in terms of income even in the late 60's. in R2. Exceeding even San Jose of Nueva Ecija when it became a city in 69/70?. In fact Stgo. filed for cityhood in 71, but was shelved during martial law in 72.

Well then, if in doubt Where Stgo.'s status in terms of Revenue is for now, the city's treasury i believe would be more than happy to answer if you inquire. Does taxation policy has something to do with it too? or may be type of businesses. Commercial centers as in mall? or business as in Grain warehousing. Food, that is, has alot of weight I thought. Anyways, just an opinion..

Hi everyone... Sorry kakagaling ko lang Alabang.^^
Yep. Its location kasi in region 2 is very essential for the development of CVL.

Yep. Its location kasi in region 2 is very essential for the development of CVL.
At ano yung chicharon?
william :D May 25th, 2010, 12:17 PM Hi hakz2007... Halos nagkasabay tayo ng Luzon tour. On tour ka parin?
Nagstart kami ng Bulacan ( Chicharon/ Balot/Suka) Nueva Ecija, then Nueva Viscaya (Sun rise), then Ifugao (Banaue). Tapos bumaba kami ulit ng Nueva Viscaya. Ilocos Sur ( Chavit at mga pasalubong). La Union ( food trip)....

yeah. mataas ang collection both for National tax , which is being remitted to the National coffer ( More than 600M), at local tax which automatically becomes a part of the local coffer.

By the way, Bulacan ang pangunahing bagsakan ng mga traders ng Mais at palay dito sa Santiago at sa buong Isabela. marami naring traders from Bulacan ang pinasok ang Santiago para directly bilhin ang ani ng mga farmers at buying stations.^^

296619 May 25th, 2010, 05:49 PM Palanan – the town that time forgot.

Mention the name Palanan, and even province mates of this remote town finds this municipality a mystery, mainly because of its inaccessibility and many natural wonders, said Governor Ma. Gracia Cielo Padaca, who described the 397 – year old town as “one of Isabela’s best kept secrets.” Though some outsiders tag Palanan (population less than 20,000) as “the town that time fogot,” many of its residents don’t seem to mind.
Nestled in the farthest eastern corner of the province of Isabela, bounded by the Pacific Ocean, the relatively small and unknown coastal town of Palanan provides a number of empty and peaceful “island alternatives” when its neighboring provinces are jam-packed with beach frolickers.
The mainly Catholic community, said to be founded by Frnciscan missionaries in 1609 on the banks of the Pinacanawan River, is bounded by the towns of Divilacan in the north and San Mariano in the south and west, and the vast Pacific Ocean in the east.
Paranan, a mixture of Ibanag, Spanish, Tagalog and the indigenous Agta (or Dumagat) language is the town’s dialect. One can freely interact with the Agtas which makes the trip to this island more interesting. The Agtas are semi-nomadic tribes roaming the Sierra Madre Mountains and leaves along the lean-tos along the river and seacoast.
Palanan was established as a township by the Augustinian friars in 1609 and the parish was named in honor of Saint Mary Magdalene whose feast day falls every 22nd of July. This far flung municipality has been known as the place where General Emilio Aguinaldo, President of the First Philippine Republic, made his “last stand” against US forces in 1901. The geographical location of this town has played its role in our history being the last seat of government of our first president. He sought refuge in what is now called Barangay Marikit, where he met and fell in love with local lass named Isabel Lopez. American forces led by General Frederick Funston finally capture General Aguinaldo on March 23, 1901.
Palanan may have failed to prevent the capture of General Aguinaldo by the US troops in 1901, but this does not mean that the town is devoid of heroes. Former Environment Secretary and Representative Heherson Alvarez, pushed for the establishment in the northern Sierra Madre mountains of a nature park. The park, which later became a component of the World-Bank funded integrated Protected Areas System, was declared the Palanan Wilderness.
Nature conservationist have managed to push Palanan into the limelight, calling it “the home of the guardians of the Sierra Madre” and citing local folks for sacrificing their poor town’s progress and development” in order to save the virgin forests in the northern part of the mountain range. The mountains are “wild and remote, with not a single road crossing the range in its entire length (although most maps do erroneously show several routes).” The terrain is extremely rugged, the mountains steep and densely forested. The highest point within the area is Mount Cresta (eleavation:5486 feet), with at least two more peaks namely Mount Divilacan (4,301 feet) and Mount Palanan (3,977 feet).”
More than 90,000 hectares of Palanan’s total land area of 1,220 square kilometers are timberland, while another 10,339 hectares are used as cropland. It has a built-up area of only 52.05 hectares. In the absence of direct road access from adjacent towns, Palanan can only be reached by a 30-35 minute flight in a six-seater, single engine Cyclone Cessna commuter plane from Cauayan City or a six to seven-hour boat ride from the towns of Dingalan or Baler in Aurora province, in the south, or a three to five day hike from San Mariano town. Except for some tricycles, a few horses and improvised three-wheeled motorized “kuligligs”, the streets of Palanan are empty most of the time.
“Taking the plane in itself is a treat in itself,” Governor Padaca emphasized. “You can see the beauty of the Sierra Madre from the sky, the green treetops look like giant broccolis. Eco tourists will be glad to know that six kinds of forests have been identified in the area, ranging from the lowland evergreen to montane, mangrove beach forest, limestone and forest growing on ultra basic rocks.
Bird studies conducted in the early 90s by an international team of scientists revealed 241 species, along with 78 of the nation’s 169 endemic species, including the mighty Philippine Eagle. It was a similar story with mammals, 14 species of bats were also found to be endemic.
According to Department of Tourism’s Regional director Blessida Diwa, for a long time, tourism has not been given much attention in the province despite its diverse offering to both environmentalist and regular tourists. But the DOT, with the help of the local government of Isabela, is trying to change that now. Palanan’s rich and colorful historical background, natural harbors, abundant corrals, prolific marine life and rich terrestrial areas including virgin forests are just among the resources that it can offer for eco-tourism destinations.
And then there are the virgin white sand beaches of Dicotcotan and Didadungan, probably Isabela’s best kept secrets. The coastline of both beaches are very much exposed to strong waves from the Pacific Ocean, perfect not only for swimming but also for surfing. Dicotcotan beach has a three-kilometer coastline with coral reefs, sea grass beads and sandy shoreline that is fringed with a coastal forest and a a village. According to Reynante de Veyra, a staff from the city hall, there has been frequent sightings of pointed nosed dolphins and hump back whales aside from the various species of fishes and shellfish, and marine turtles that can be seen from the surface.
Other interesting eco-tourism spots in Palanan are the Culasi Beach, Diminalo Lake, Kanataw Lake, Digoyo Lake, Kanasamuyan Cave, Disangkilan and Sad-sad falls. A lot of natural attractions to see which makes the trip to this remote town time well spent.

Isabela - Rice Granary Of The North
2007-04-30 http://big5.fmprc.gov.cn/gate/big5/laoag.china-consulate.org/eng/lqjs/gsgk/W020070430364889384909.jpg
Isabela, the biggest province in the Cagayan Valley Region, is now one of the premier provinces of the north. It has been dubbed as the "Rice Granary of the North" having been adjudged as the Most Outstanding Province in Food Security in the Gawad Sapat Ani Awards 2000 conducted by the Department of Agriculture. It is also home to the famous Northern Sierra Madre Natural Park, a protected seascape and landscape of exceptional biodiversity.
Santiago City, the commercial center of Region 2, has been declared an independent-component city through a plebiscite on July 3, 1994 under Republic Act 7720.
Cauayan City, the trading center in Isabela, is also a component city ratified in a majority vote on March 30, 2001.
Agriculture is the major industry of the people of Isabela. Farming is highly mechanized as most of the agricultural lands are irrigated. With the presence of the Isabela State University, joint ventures and other foreign assisted projects are viable while the Magat Dam Tourism Complex contributes to the high productivity in agriculture. Isabela is acknowledged as the hub of trade and commercial activities in the region due to its central location in the region. Furniture making using narra and other indigenous forest materials/products like Gmelina continue to exist. Potential investments are in fisheries and tourism. The reservoir of the Magat Dam is utilized for fishcage operations, particularly tilapia production. Tourism is relatively a new industry being developed in the province especially in the coastal areas. Support services and accommodation facilities are likewise being developed.

Thanks for the posting. Great info. I am a little puzzled what's going on in this forum. I thought it is where everybody would be able to discuss meaningful and sensible topics or ideas. Am I missing something? Fill me in please! I am from Isabela as well and would like to promote our Province and our cities in a positive manner. Cheers

Your `sari-sari' store and grocery rolled into one
Corrie Salientes-Narisma
Philippine Daily Inquirer
April 08, 2010
WITH ITS MALLS, supermarkets and ‘hypermarkets’ already in place and their future expansion taken care of, the SM food retail group of the Sy family is now focusing its attention and resources on its newest ‘baby’—the Savemore Market, designed to be everyone’s neighborhood grocery and wet market rolled into one.
Savemore completes the SM group’s food retail lineup—the others that came ahead were the hypermarkets, supermarkets and Makro, the membership outlet.
Expansion
The goal is to put up at least one Savemore store in every city or town in the country. For this year, there will be 20 new stores and by 2015, the target is to have a total of 250 stores.
The focus of the current expansion program is northern Luzon, although Savemore is also opening in other parts of Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao.
Last year, it opened in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya. This year, it will open in Ilagan, Isabela and it hopes to put up stores soon in Tuguegarao, Cauayan and Santiago.
“This strategy is mainly aimed at achieving efficiency in the delivery of products that Savemore carries” he says.
In choosing the host areas for Savemore, according to Tagbo, the SM food retail group takes into consideration the demographic setup, the population and average household income. Quezon City, for instance, is a priority area given its population of two million and the average household income of P25,000 a month.
“We also consider the traffic generators such as churches, terminals and wet markets,” he says.
Despite the presence of SM supermarkets in many areas in the country, Tagbo says, there will always be a need for Savemore stores. There is no competition between these two segments, they even complement each other.
“There will always be a need for us to serve our customers better, and that is through going closer to them,” Tagbo says.

296619 June 2nd, 2010, 04:31 PM Santiago is a perfect example of a developing and emerging city. From just an ordinary bario of Echague Isabela, Santiago has evolved as the Commercial and Industrial Center of Region Two. Villages outside the city proper are fast developing, being coquered by different merchants.^^
Below are pictures of Patul road. It connects Santiago City with Diffun Quirino. It passes through the villages of Patul, Malini and Villa Gonzaga...:)

296619 June 3rd, 2010, 03:41 PM ^^On the Road to Cauayan City...
Santiago is the first city in region 2. It was declared as independent city in 1994. After six years, Cauayan was declared as a component city. These two progressive cities plus numerous first class municipalities (Ilagan, Echague, Roxas among others), and Isabela's natural wonders ( Sierra Madre Natural Park and Magat Dam Tourism Complex) make Isabela the Premier Province of the North! :)...
Below are (Santiago City) pictures taken while driving along National Highway (Pan-American Highway) going to Cauayan.^^

Hindi naman talaga ganun as in super...
Agricultural based kasi ang Isabela... rice and corn granary... 2nd largest province in terms of land... Magat dam ( plus cagayan river) ang source of water and electricity... It has four commercial centers - Santiago, Cauayan, Ilagan and Roxas...
Well distributed ang development...
Ilagan ang capital. dito mga provincial and national offices... Maraming magagandang bahay...
Cauayan hosts one of Isabela's airport.
^^

Impressive photos indeed, 296619. Looking at those pix, I thought Santiago is definitely an emerging commercial and industrial city in R2. Sure there are still a lot of things and other issues that needs improvement, but overall, I thought for just 16 years...WOW..stunning progress. How about Cauayan, Roxas, & Ilagan. I am quite sure there are lots of positive things to be said and posted about those places as well. Would there be some coming soon? I just want to let you know how greatful I am to have your postings for all to see. Fantastic...Good job.:):):):):)
:ohno:
any update po sa Magat dam?

Third in terms of Asset and revenue...
second in terms of net asset after Olongapo...^^

Ephesus29 June 4th, 2010, 09:53 AM Looking at those pix you have taken 296619 along the Hi-way on your way to Cauayan, makes me come home. Huge progress indeed since I left for Canada, thirty-five fyears ago. Wow. it really amazes me how far Santiago had develop, not only economically but also in tourism. I bet in 10 years, Santiago will become Urbanized city.

GRABE YUNG EL NINO noh :ohno: :ohno: :ohno:
Kasi sobrang init to the extent na wala talagang tubig yung mga ibang lugar.

Pero sana kung maging uraban man yung ibang a, sana mapanatili yung kalinisan at kaayusan...

Dustin June 5th, 2010, 09:14 AM 296619, I'm just new on this thread, heto medyo nangangapa pa. I just hope I could share more in common with you guys and thank you for your warmth welcome.:cheers::cheers:
Visit ka rin sa thread namin... Tarlac City and Province. Welcome na welcome ka doon. :)
Dustin June 5th, 2010, 09:16 AM so si 296619 at si 111466 ay parehong ipinanganak noong 1966???
Ephesus29 June 5th, 2010, 09:54 AM Good day to all threaders! I just visited the c.o.a. link and found out a whopping 3billionpesos asset of Santiago City. Nakakagulat talaga on how far they go. Sana maging instrument ito for the rest of Isabela.:nuts::nuts:
Incredible, impressive, big numbers eh!..congrats to all Santiaguenos... Hopefully the rest will mimic the good fortune of the city of Santiago. But if you look at what is in the drawing board, and the ongoing projects in Tuguegarao and the rest of the Province of Cagayan, I would worry. Santiago may not be able to live up to its name as the "Queen city of the North". City leaders should start flexing. Put the city resources where it should be (develoment, and more development). The city can afford to do it.
william :D June 5th, 2010, 10:24 AM so si 296619 at si 111466 ay parehong ipinanganak noong 1966???

wahaaa... OO nga Tuguegarao andaming plans and they're very vocal about it... Good for Tuguegarao...
Well I guest wala naman competion between the two kasi magkaiba naman ng province:nuts:...
Santiago naman kasi is not that vocal sa mga projects, after nalang kapag tapos na, mahirap kasi magpromise... For now marami din namang developments sa Santiago, buildings, roads, schools etc - at nangyayari na.:)
Yung iba nga surprised kapag nalaman na may ganun pala sa Santiago, kasi we dont tend to make press releases... kapag andun nalang hehehe...:)
296619 June 5th, 2010, 06:15 PM Home of the Gaddang tribe, Cauayan city is the Agro-Indutrial Center of Isabela. It is located at the heart of Isabela, and houses one of Isabela's airport, Honda Cars, San Miguel Beer among others. To date, it has an estimated 120,000 people.:)

Wahaha.. regarding the tag "Queen City of the North", heheh.. I think it has nothing to do which city is the best. We use this as a tag to market our place. If in case Tuguegarao or even Cauayan will overtake Santiago, well and good kasi it means na gumaganda at umuusbong lalo ang R2... No competition between these cities... I think we should watch on how public officials spend our money and not on how each city or town overtakes each other.
Lets continue promoting our cities and the whole of the Philippines...
Sana suportahan natin ang first SSC Philippine Meet!

You're absolutely right for taking it in stride, you're a cool guy. I like your approach. Wouldn't be nice if all people thinks the way you do. I thought you're admirable.:) However I just thought that some times a positive competition is a great motivation. But let's not even go there anyways. :) By the way, in your posting, we're you going north when you took the pictures along the Pan-American hi-way? I am just curious. The "Welcome to Sillawit" sign caught my eyes. :) It has somehow struck my inner "psyche" and emotion.:lovethem: By the way, Thanks again for your postings. Awesome you're doing a great job. :) And on the issue of "how officals/leaders spend the money" it should be the main concern of people, and not which city/municipality is moving(literally)ahead. I've noticed that Cauayan has also changed dramatically. NIA Administration bldg. is visible, St. Xavier, oh, I still remember it vividly. How about the "centro" of the city. Agyamanac ti adu kaillian....

I couldn't agree more. Green foliage along the hi-way reduces our carbon foot-prints dramatically. I was amazed when I saw the tree- lined hi-way through 296619 lens. Incredible. Breath of "Fresh air" I'd say. Hopefully other places would mimic the same attitude towards a greener invironment. Good day (Tarlaqueno) kapwa pinoy.:)

Dustin June 6th, 2010, 02:44 AM ask ko lang ah... sino ba mas maunlad Santiago or Tuguegarao?

296619 June 6th, 2010, 02:52 AM ask ko lang ah... sino ba mas maunlad Santiago or Tuguegarao?
I would say pareho lang... May kanya kanya kasing prinoproject, depende sa city planning... Ang concern is dapat each city has to tap its potential... And in beating that potential, may mga limitations or constraints.:)

for me ok na andyan nlng.

And you are very right that we should not grandstand our very own place indeed let us just be humble for the rest of the development to come: be here in our beloved Isabela or other part of the region.

I thought the cemetery should be moved somewhere, (say; North & South cemetery) and not right at the core of the city. I am not supposed to be concern that much considering I am on the other side of pond, just a thought and opinion anyways. Also, just may be, if they could build a new city hall and the old one will be converted into a museum and arts gallery:) Wow..would be nice (wishful thinking) eh.

pag private car, mas mabilis at mas convenient kasi pwede kang magstop anywhere.
Thru Maharlika highway, dadaanan mo ang San Miguel Bulacan, Cabanatuan, Science city of Munos, San Jose city... aakyat ng bundok (walang kanan o kaliwa - isa lang ang daan), Sta. Fe, Bamabang Nueva Viscaya, Solano Nueva Viscaya, Diadi Nueva Viscaya ...
