SANTIAGO CITY, Isabela, Feb. 9 (PIA) -- The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Santiago City chapter was provided with a new unit of ambulance and a mini fire truck last week by the PRC Central Office to better respond to emergencies in its area of operation.

PRC Santiago City chapter administrator Estela Vergara said the new emergency rescue equipment were provided by the PRC Central Office having seen the necessity of the rescue equipment through the intervention of the city government who made a request to the PRC.

Vergara said the rescue equipment will be kept in her office and will be exclusively used for providing emergency assistance to needy constituents.

PRC Santiago City is also willing to lend the rescue equipment to the Bureau of Fire Protection only when requested by the agency especially during fire rescue operations.

Vergara said the provision of additional rescue equipment will be beneficial to Santiaguenos as it will surely expand their services to the needy constituents. She also said that the PRC Santiago City has a number of volunteers who are willing to augment the needed manpower especially during emergency situations like in the time of calamities.

The PRC is also closely coordinating with the Rescue 206 to better serve Santiaguenos.

Vergara said the PRC is helping in the conduct of first-aid trainings in schools and even in barangays, disaster management, blood-letting, and other humanitarian activities. (TCB/MGE-PIA Isabela)

Ford Cabanatuan is one of the branches it owns. So ang Ford Isabela is under Laus Group and not under Ford Cabanatuan.

Ford Tructor Philippines located in Cauayan is separate and distict entity not connected with Laus group.

Koreans Plan $200M Paper Facility
By MELODY M. AGUIBA
February 11, 2012, 10:47pm

MANILA, Philippines — Korean-owned Corn Pulp & Paper Holdings (CP&P) mulls the establishment of a $200 million pulp and paper facility in Isabela utilizing corn stalks from the corn growers in the province as raw material.

Danilo B. Tumamao, Isabela provincial agriculturist, told Business Bulletin at the sidelines of the “Global Status of Commercialized Biotech Crops” that CP&P plans to invest in Isabela because of the abundance of corn stalks.

Isabela, the country’s biggest corn hub, produced 1.26 million metric tons (MT) of corn in 2011, a sizable 20 percent of Philippines’ total corn output.

The proposed paper manufacturing plant has a production capacity of 40,000 metric tons (MT) of pulp per year for exports, particularly Korea.

The project’s feasibility study was prepared by Finnish firm Poyry, which is engaged in “engineering balanced sustainability” projects in industries as hydropower, nuclear energy, transmission, pulp and paper, chemicals, transportation, and mining.

CP&P is partnering with a local firm A&L Consulting. Both partners are now raising an initial $40 million financing for the planned paper facility. A memorandum of agreement (MOA) has just been signed between the stakeholders for the project supported by the Isabela Gov. Faustino Dy.

The Philippine partner, A&L, is separately planting corn on 12,000 to 15,000 hectares of land in Isabela in its bullish prospect for the crop.

Tumamao said the Korean project is an opportunity for Isabela to further increase its corn production as this would require extensive planting program of genetically-modified (GM) corn and 20,000 hectares to produce the much needed corn stalk.

“Their interest is the corn stalk, and Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) corn has stalks that are clean, so it may be best to use it for pulp and paper. But the corn may still be used for its grains,” said Tumamao.

The Korean company earlier visited Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia for possible location of its project, but has preferred the Philippines as an investment site. CP&P believes the Philippines is an attractive place to invest in, particularly in Isabela.

The group also visited other sites in the country including Pampanga, Pangasinan, and Bukidnon in Mindanao, but Cauayan in Isabela was chosen as the final site. Isabela is also the site of South East Asia’s biggest bulk handling facility for corn and rice in Reina Mercedes.

Araneta & Lee (A&L) Consulting Chairman Jovy S. Araneta said the group is choosing Isabela as site for the plant because of the abundance of corn plants which generate stalks that are at the moment considered waste.

CP&P has just completed a pilot work of the technology in China that used corn stalk as raw material for pulp manufacturing.

“This is a cutting edge technology developed by Koreans. They are utilizing corn as a renewable resource,” said Araneta.

“We feel the market is easy. We can sell it anywhere. Corn is a political commodity worldwide. It’s becoming scarce,” said Araneta.

The Philippines has regularly been importing corn and corn substitutes at around one million MT yearly.

The Isabela provincial government also has a support for corn planting, Tumamao said, through the “Production Incentive Based Loan Assistance to Marginalized Farmers.”

“We will provide small farmers with loans. We have almost 50 percent share of small farmers (with an average of 1.7 hectare-land) in our production, so we have to take care of their welfare,” Tumamao said.

Farmers that hit a corn yield of five MT and above will be privileged to get the loan converted into a grant.

“We have a clearance from COA (Commission on Audit) on this program that will use our EDF (economic development fund),” he said.

@sansa2005..your assumption that 296619 is middling/dictating, what you or other forumers has to say to suit or agree with his own whims/desires or what he wanted to listen to or read for that matter, I thought is uncalled for. He's merely stating the fact that, there are some proper quorum that needs to be met to keep this forum more engaging, unbiased and at all possible keep the discussion in a cushion of air. At least that's how I see it anyways. I am not absolutely sure though how he feels, and his intentions are. Only him that knows. I must admit, that sometimes the likelihood of getting off-tracks about our postings/critiques and ideas, is sure part of the discussion, but at all times if possible, refrain from making such blunder, or make ammend to keep the discussion's fluidity.:) TY

I was born and raised from Cauayan too. Now living abroad. Frankly, I wouldn't back-down at any point in time either if somehow, Cauayan city would get in the hands any bias critique as well without any facts or shred of evidence that would back up any comment/critique made.:)TY

THE COMMERCIAL CENTER OF REGION 2"? Meron kasi akomg nabasa sa isang thread na lagi nyang sinasabi yun, knowing that Santiago has been using that tag mula maging city ito.
E.g. Tuguegarao - The economic center
Ilagan - Primary growth center
Santiago - Commercial Center
Cauayan - Agro Industrial center

I've been engaging with 296619 for quite sometimes, but there wasn't any time that he made bias comment about any city. As far as I know, btw. All he has been doing is to promote the city of Santiago. Not that he wants all the development would, and should be in Santiago, but just the sheer motive of telling it loud, what Santiago is up to, which is the way it should be. Plain and simple. I don't see anything wrong with that.:)

IMO...I don't see anything wrong about it though. Clearly, I think it is mostly on how we perceived about the connotation of the said "Tag" and at the eyes of commercial entity and investors if at all carries a huge impact, on their decision making. However the intentions are, I would not make any redundant claim either way. One "TAG" for every city would be more appropriate.

The paper plant will contribute an add'l local income of 5 - 10 milyon yearly assuming the plant can produce 1bilyon worth of goods and its real property valued a100 milyon (fmv)

Real propery tax at 1million
Business tax at 3.75 million (waivable if there's an expressed provision in the franchise that company will pay franchise tax in lieu of all other taxes)
Franchise tax at 5 million
Professional tax at very minimal amt.
Tax on delivery trucks at very minimal amt.

The greater the production, the greater the franchise tax payable...
The bigger the sale, the bigger the business tax payable

Note: franchise tax is much much lower at the start of operation at only 5% of 1% of produced before it jumps to 50% of 1%..local tax rates may increase BY not more than 50% of the limits allowed by law to municipalities and prov...

Yan..for everybody's consumption...

As for now for me 3rd class city pa din ang cauayan.

Pero just to reconcile it, yung Xentro mall is parang community mall.. Robinsons naman ay provincial mall sa setting natin so there's really no conflict in terms of market...

Quite impressive....hhmm:)Should I retract my comment I previously posted...hhmm I am tempted:) Nah I would just leave it at that for now. But quite frankly I have to admit I have to swing on the softer side of the stick for now, considering what I am seeing, and reading.

All I can say is that both Santiago and Cauayan cities and soon Ilagan are all in the cusp of economic development, so fast that I am also quite concern that it could compromised some of the infrastructures of both cities. like: Roads, bridges, communications, grids, and other infra that comes with development. I am not too sure weather all I have mentioned are in placed or in the drawing board, though I am certainly hopeful that it is. I always thought that before any development even come to the fore, infra has to take place ahead, of any kind of development. Anyhow, I am just sharing my thoughts with you guyz, something to ponder/consider on while surfing and posting.

However, I have to reiterate my positive impression about both cities in Isabela for now, and hope all is well for all stakeholders, the people, business community and government.

If you are referring to GreenView Hotel, yun ang balita noon. binibili ng SM yung lot from Greenview hanggang sa Vcup Hotel. Kaya lang di pumayag ang isang gasoline station in between. At yung kalahati on going ang negotiation.

If you are referring to GreenView Hotel, yun ang balita noon. binibili ng SM yung lot from Greenview hanggang sa Vcup Hotel. Kaya lang di pumayag ang isang gasoline station in between. At yung kalahati on going ang negotiation.
Would they develop that road ng 4 lanes in a major street? Last January sabi ng Security Guard sa akin, they'll move to 4 Lanes mula Victory Norte Terminal nla by 1st Quarter of 2012.

$200-M paper facility to rise in Isabela ILAGAN, Isabela, Feb. 13 (PIA) -- A $200-million paper plant facility will be constructed in Isabela as soon as the final agreement among the Korean investors, the provincial government of Isabela, and city government of Cauayan will be formalized.

The multi-million dollar paper plant facility, which will be using corn stalks as raw materials, is expected to be constructed at the forest region of Cauayan City where majority of farmers are engaged in corn planting.

Danilo Tumamao, provincial agriculturist of Isabela, said that in the conceptualization of the paper plant project, the proponents took into consideration the area of operations where vast areas of corn lands shall be present to meet the requirements and availability of corn stalks when the facility will start to operate. Tumamao said Isabela is the country’s top producer of corn among other provinces in the country where it has produced 1.26 million metric tons of corn in 2011, contributing 20 percent of country’s total corn production. The Korean-owned Corn Pulp and Paper Holdings with local counterpart Araneta and Lee Consulting company has been initially conducting talks with the provincial and city officials of Cauayan to possibly realize the important project which can contribute to employment opportunities for Isabelinos. Tumamao said the Korean project is an opportunity to increase the corn yield by planting corn in 20,000 hectares to produce the needed corn stalks for the plant’s operation. Tumamao said once the paper plant facility will formally operate, there will be demands for labor force and this will benefit Isabelinos. (TCB/MGE-PIA Isabela) -Rod

congrats cauayan!!!!

( as claimed by one of Tugue forumers, Tuge has been engaging in proprietary functions para makalikom ng malaking business income whcih is true)

As for Ilagan, important ito para sa cityhood bid so malamang na-meet na nila ang 100 million income mark noong 2011

As for Santiago, important ito sa akin personally para malaman kung gaano na kalaki ang perang ginagamit ng LGU Santiago...

Cebu Pacific to double fleet with add'l Airbus orders
abs-cbnNEWS.com
Posted at 06/16/2009 6:30 PM | Updated as of 06/16/2009 10:17 PM

MANILA - Gokongwei-owned Cebu Pacific or CEB is more than doubling its current capacity with the addition of new aircraft that could bring its Airbus A320 orders to 20.

Cebu Pacific now operates brand new Airbus fleet with 21 Airbus (10 A319 and 11 A320) and seven ATR 72-500 aircraft.

In a press release, Asia’s 3rd largest low-cost airline said it increased its orders from 10 to 15 and is thinking of buying five more.

At 20 aircraft, the total investment required would reach $1.3 billion. Delivery of the 180-seat aircraft will be from October 2010 to November 2013.

CEB president and CEO Lance Gokongwei said the additional orders are needed because of the airline’s expanding domestic and international operations.

"This expansion will more than doubles passenger capacity and enable us to provide our trademark low fares for new domestic and international destinations. We expect to increase our passenger numbers from nine million this year to 15 million in 2013," Gokongwei said.

"The global economic downturn notwithstanding, we are experiencing a surge in the number of passengers flying Cebu Pacific mainly because of our low fares. We expect this growth to continue, hence our decision to further expand our fleet," he said.

Cebu Pacific carried 6.7 million passengers last year and expects to carry nine million this year. From 2010 onwards, the numbers should continue to grow as more aircraft are deployed to serve more destinations.

Altogether, CEB has now placed firm orders of 27 A320 Family aircraft with 12 already delivered. “We currently operate 21 aircraft from the A320 family, including nine leased aircraft, with an average age of just 1.9 years.” Lance Gokongwei emphasized.

The new A320s will be powered by CFM International’s CFM56-5B engines (worth $140 million) which are very efficient and have better fuel consumption. The engine also meets the latest environmental protection standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization for its low carbon dioxide emission.

The airline had earlier signed a $100-million OnPoint solution agreement with GE Aviation’s services business. The 12-year service contract includes general maintenance and repairs, parts procurement, technology upgrades, engine leasing, and overhaul of the CFM56-5B engines.

CEB operates flights to 15 cities in Asia and 32 domestic destinations

I THINK, THIS IS THE REASON CEBU PACIFIC IS NOW UTILIZING A319's in almost of its destinations in the country and ATR planes will serve those airports considered as community or small especially with runway limited to just small aircraft... cauayan airport runway is 2km, tama lang sa A319 at A320.. with the entry of A319, cauayan airport should now be considered Principal 1 category ng airport...

ang cauayan airport naman, ina upgrade siya to 2km in preparation for the special economic zone sa city.. 2km runway nga is not enough eh... dapat lahat sana 2.5km..

congrats cauayan!!!!

Lets just wait for more update on that.

XRC, according to CPDO Officer here is SM affiliated. Is Megaworld affiliated with SM?

Salamat.

It is definitely a great news to see that Lal-lo International Airport is moving on with its construction. It would certainly make Northern Cagayan fuel up its economic engine. The influx of tourists and perhaps even business investment from SE and even globally, that this project would bring into the economy would be quite substantial. Since Lal-lo airport would soon become the International airport, not only in Cagayan but perhaps throughout region 2, I am just curious just like anybody, if what would be the future of the Airport in Tuguegarao. Would it hold up to its present status or would it be deviated to Lal-lo? TY:cheers:

Another wonderful news indeed, that CEB A319/A320 aircraft now serves Cauayan city airport as well. Hopefully PAL/Air Phil would soon have its B737 for Cauayan city as well.

@kaelthas: is it the A319's maiden flight to Cauayan when your mom flew in?
Just curious. Anyways, regardless weather was full or not as long as above 55-60 % occupied would be a good start. IMO. My sister her daughter and my mom are flying to Cyn upon arrival @ NAIA in Manila. I even ask my sister to take a lot of pix upon approaching the runway to get a better snap of the city. I am quite static what would be the outcome.

Airphil Express is acquiring a total of 20 new A320s over the next four years, to be added to the current fleet of eight Bombardier DHC-8-400 (Q400) and DHC-8-300 (Q300) turbo-prop aircraft.

Aside from the two leased narrow-body jets, four brand-new A320s will also be delivered from Airbus’ manufacturing facility in Toulouse, France, between September and November 2010. Four more A320 aircraft will join the fleet next year, five aircraft in 2012 and another five in 2013.

abangan natin yan.. sa mga susunod na buwan o taon.. puro airbus na ang lilipad uli sa REGION II. think of it, 3 malalaking airports ang meron sa cagayan valley region.. cauayan, tuguegarao and soon to be lallo city,cagayan..:cheers:

Aside from the two leased narrow-body jets, four brand-new A320s will also be delivered from Airbus’ manufacturing facility in Toulouse, France, between September and November 2010. Four more A320 aircraft will join the fleet next year, five aircraft in 2012 and another five in 2013.

Those unpleasant dangling wires are absolutely disgusting and an eyesore. I don't mean to make you blow up your lid young man but please be discrete. You're quite admirably brazen the way you posted some of your pix willy, but frankly I am not totally sold out with a couple of your pix specially the Hotel Amancio. The structure has a good height but it looks too visually distractive with all those dangling wires infront of the building. Plus the vehicles and tricycles moving in the corridor in one of your pix too, seems chaotic and look like those vehicles doesn't have any directions at all. I don't indent to rattle you, I am just being honest in my opinion. :)

My point is, there are several solutions that the city government could have done to improve this unpleasant sight, not only in Santiago but Cauayan also. As I mentioned in my previous posts that development in both cities are so fast that some areas of development are being neglected. Although seemingly insignificant considering how little it is, the impact in overall city look is somehow huge and substantial. Come to think about it :)

Just an observation, and this is not to demean anyone particularly these beautiful Hyundai girls. Maybe this was Hyundai's idea.

I don't think it is appropriate to have a mini-skirt as a uniform unless you are working as an entertainer or in a similar business. Moreso, wearing a mini-skirt and then hide your legs in stockings is largely frowned upon by the fashionistas. Para ano pa at nag-mini ka di ba? And take note: as masculine as I am, I am also a female fashion critique hehe .

Hehe. Sir 296... bagay sa yo trial lawyer. Ang galing mong sumilip ng ebidensiya. Pero isipin mo to.

1. Xentro Mall/Santiago mall of XRC corp. - on going na ang construction;
3. Star Mall ng mga Villar... (not sure kung kelan start)

1. Xentro Mall/Santiago mall of XRC corp. - on going na ang construction;

About XENTRO MALL, xrc corp ang nagmamayari, not megaworld...
