Cauayan gets help from private,
other sectors in managing its solid waste

The City of Cauayan is the newest of the three cities in the Cagayan Valley region; it was declared a city only in 2001. The city’s strategic location—at the center of Isabela province and the entire region as well—has facilitated Cauayan’s steady economic growth. As trade and commerce boom, so does the population (due to migration), and with it comes the problem of increasing waste generation.http://ecogovproject.denr.gov.ph/images/img_successstories/Cauayan01.jpg A seven-day waste assessment jointly conducted by the city and the Philippine Environmental Governance (EcoGov) Project—funded by USAID and implemented with DENR and other partners—revealed that the city is generating close to 27 tons of solid wastes daily, mostly coming from the public market and Cauayan’s 13 urban barangays. The city has 65 barangays.
There were earlier efforts to educate the people on the ill-effects of unmanaged wastes, but public response to adopting waste reduction and segregation practices was at best “lukewarm.” The public’s indifference towards proper waste disposal stems from their perception that waste management is purely a government responsibility—though they are part of the problem, the residents did not see themselves as being part of the solution. This kind of attitude led to indiscriminate disposal of solid wastes—from throwing them into drainage and creeks, to just leaving them on the streets, to burning the garbage at their backyard—posing grave threat to the city’s residents and their environment.
http://ecogovproject.denr.gov.ph/images/img_successstories/Cauayan02.jpgWith rapid developments taking place, city officials thought the problem could only get worse if nothing would be done soon. The enactment of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003), which mandates local governments to properly manage their wastes; and practice segregation, recycling and composting to divert at least 25 percent of their waste by year 2006, became an added challenge to the city.
Making waste management everybody’s concern
Driven by this growing concern, the City government of Cauayan, headed by City Mayor Caesar G. Dy, pushed for the enactment of the City Environment Code and included solid waste management (SWM) as one of the city’s top 10 investment priorities. With technical assistance from EcoGov, the city developed its 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan, now undergoing review by the City Development Council and the Sangguniang Panlungsod. It is expected to be approved before the year ends.
http://ecogovproject.denr.gov.ph/images/img_successstories/Cauayan03.jpgEven if the plan is yet to be approved, the city is wasting no time in implementing a string of activities. Wanting to impress upon its people that waste management is everyone’s concern, Cauayan conducted intensive information and education campaign in the public market, households—especially in the 13 urban barangays—and schools to encourage people to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Taking advantage of the Filipinos’ competitive spirit, the city launched the annual Inter-Barangay Linis Bayan contest and inter-school contest on Ecological Solid Waste Management for public and private schools. The law recommends that Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) be set up in each barangay; Cauayan, however, took a step further and built low-cost MRFs at the purok level (though the barangay is the smallest political unit in the Philippines, it is further divided into several purok or sitio. A purok or sitio leader is appointed by the barangay captain, who is elected by the barangay residents), in addition to establishing composting pits. Schools were likewise required to practice waste segregation. In addition, the city government has enlisted the support of the business sector, including the junk shop operators, which were organized into an association. Its president sits as member of the city SWM Board.
http://ecogovproject.denr.gov.ph/images/img_successstories/Cauayan04.jpgTo date, the city has already invested about P6.5 million for construction of a central composting facility, purchase of equipment and other SWM activities.
An SWM model
At present, a total of 65 MRFs have been established in Cauayan’s 13 urban barangays.
Responding to the mayor’s appeal, the Rotary Club of Cauayan, Rural Bank of Cauayan, the Iglesia ni Cristo, Cyclone Airways and the Philippine Air Force based in Cauayan City donated garbage cans for the city’s SWM program. They also participate in clean-up drives and in urban re-greening activities, such as tree planting.http://ecogovproject.denr.gov.ph/images/img_successstories/Cauayan05.jpg The city’s composting facility is now processing each day close to 700 kilos of biodegradable waste coming from the public market and the 13 urban barangays.
Based on available data, the City of Cauayan is now diverting 18 percent of its solid wastes generated within the public market and the business establishments, just a few percentage points shy of the law’s minimum 25 percent requirement. To meet this goal, the city has allocated an additional P1.2 million for 2006 to further upgrade its disposal site and expand its SWM program to cover the rest of the barangays.
Because of its SWM initiatives, Cauayan has become a model for the “cleanest and greenest city” in the region. Last January, Cauayan was one of the 26 LGUs cited by the National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC) for having converted their dumpsites into controlled disposal facilities. Recently, Cauayan City ranked first among the 48 local governments recognized by the NSWMC to be complying with RA 9003.
“SWM programs can succeed and be sustained if every sector would get involved in their implementation,” says Mayor Dy. “We are glad that in Cauayan, our partners recognize their responsibility and are actively playing their role.”

...from Tugue and Cagayan Thr...

may pinost si william sa Santiago thread, na kailangan ng 400 million local income para maging HUC at dapat 80% of the total income ay local.
Parang biglang humirap ang maging HUC...

Under SB 117, which has been approved by the !4th senate but wasn't relly enacted into law as of yet for some reason, and which was introduced by Sen. Pimentel, the income requirement for HUC is 250,000,000 M pesos, 0f which 80% must come from local taxes from real properties for 3 years preceding application for change of city status and not 400,000,000 as you've mentioned. Here's a text of the bill to quote:

"Under this bill, a city seeking conversion into a highly urbanized city is required to have an average of at least 80% real property tax collection efficiency for the three years preceding the current calendar year, with the latest locally generated annual income of at least Two Hundred Fifty Million Pesos (P250,000,000.00) based on 1998 constant prices, as certified by the Department of Finance."

Pag may balak ka, try mo dito bumili, good investment, as in three to five years from now, pwedeng doble na yung presyo ng lupa... hehe..

Bali may mga naging programang Pabahay kasi yung city govt. As in libreng pabahay... Marami yun e.

OO wala pang skyline :)... Saan ba may pinaka mataas na Buildings sa North aside from Baguio? Sa Santiago kasi, 8 floors lang ang pinakamataas, at yung ibang gusali ay mga 3 to 6 floors lang at mas marami ang 3 to 4 floors:)

Tulad nga ng Nasabi, we're really aiming to be like Makati ( not being a skyscraper City but) in some aspect. Makati is the business center of the Philippines, atleast makuha man lang namin ang 1/4 na katangian ng Makati bilang business center... hehe...

Question: How tall does a building have to be in order to be classified as a skyscraper?
In: Inventions, Interior Design, Buildings [Edit categories]

Skyscrapers
Answer: A minimum height of approximately 150 meters or 492.12 feet is often used as a criterion for a building to qualify as a skyscraper. Other criteria like shape and appearance may also affect whether or not a building is considered a skyscraper.

http://wiki.answers.com

Note: The standard height for a building floor is 10 feet so that to be considered a skyscraper a building has to have a minimum of 49 floors.

Here's a list of tallest buildings in the Philippines:

IVE SEEN THE RESORT TOWER IN SUBIC,OLONGAPO.. WE WERE HEADING TOWARDS ZOOBIC SAFARI BUT INSTEAD WE REACHED THIS TWIN TOWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FOREST RESERVE SUBIC AREA..I THINK THIS IS THE HANJIN HOTEL CONDOMINIUM RESORT.. NAGING CONTROVERSIAL TONG PROJECT NA ITO COZ THE SITUATED AREA IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE EXPLOITED COZ ITS PROTECTED UNDER THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF DENR PERO THE SAID AGENCY APPROVED ITS CONSTRUCTION..

THEN ANOTHER TOWER IN SAN NICOLAS, ILOCOS NORTE..THIS TOWER IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION ABOUT 70% OF THE TOWER WERE ALREADY FINISHED AND THIS IS SITUATED ALONG NATIONAL HIGHWAY AND VERY NEAR TO ROBINSON'S PLACE.. BALAI ATA ANG NAME NG CONDOMINIUM NA YUN..

NAGIGING TOWERING PLACE NA RIN ANG NORTH LUZON AS IT STARTED ALREADY IN ZAMBALES AND ILOCOS REGION.. HOPEFULLY HERE IN REGION II WILL START ITS OWN SKYSCRAPER OR TOWER IN THE NEAR FUTURE ESPECIALLY IN THE CEZA OR FORT IRENE ECO ZONE AREA WHERE IN SOME OF THE BIG TIME NAMES IN CASINOS,JAI ALAI GAMES, BIG RESORTS AND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT(SOON) ARE ALREADY OPERATING..

Wait for another 5 to 10 years:)I am quite sure there will be few hi-rises that will come up in Northern Luzon. :) Sta. Ana, of Cagayan probably be the first one to have at least 12-16 storey building with in the 10 year time frame:)
Santiago, Tuguegarao, and Cauayan, would also be on the radar for the skyscrapercity category:) Am I being too optomistic? Oh absolutely...it is coming guys.... I would imagine that the influx of tourism in R2, specially in the Waterfront of Norther Cagayan where few upscale resorts are now budding, no doubt that "Luxury" accomodations would sprout along the beaches like Hawaii. WOW, would be nice isn't it?cheers

ahhaaaa...

:) hehe...

I don't know if it will work in the city of Stgo. Just maybe, put a cap on urban sprawl for now and concentrate in the creation of a city core, that caters to hi-rises. Say...10 blocks along the main thoroughfare. I would like to see Stgo. to pioneer on this kind of development. A well defined downtown citycore. :)I am not an Engineer:ohno: so the best bet, is to work with the Engineering Dept. of the city?:cheers:

The City core of Santiago is actually well designed. Para siyang Ayala Triangle less the big buildings and plus small buildings ( But Santiago CBD is like an elongated circle). Sobrang dami nang establishments, that's why they're creating a new business center in brgy Malvar. This one can cater high-rise buildings and malls. :).... The question is, kelan darating ang mga investors?:)

maybe in 10 years time magkakaron din ang region II ng masasabing skyscraper o tower.. even the people of bacolod city are proud to display their first high rise building under construction - a 10-12 storey building.. the tallest building in our country right now is the PB com tower in makati. but that will be surpassed in the future coz a tower will rise in the heart of fort bonifacio in taguig city..

MANY OF TUGUEGARAO CITY BUILDINGS ARE BUILT WITH MAXIMUM 7 FLOORS ONLY LIKE PENSIONE ROMA, HOTEL DELFINO, LORITA HOTEL, VILLABLANCA HOTEL AND ST PAUL UNIV.... SOME ARE RENTED BY GOVT AGENCIES.. KAYA NUNG LUMIPAT NA SILA SA REGIONAL CENTER, NAGING IDLE NA ANG MGA ITO.. I THINK THE CITY HALL OF TUGUEGARAO IS LARGEST AND HIGHEST RIGHT NOW WITH 7-8 FLOORS AND 2 ELEVATORS OPERATING.. KAYA PAG NASA NATIONAL HIGHWAY KA SA REGIONAL CENTER, VERY EYE CATCHING ANG NAKATAYONG GREEN BUILDING SA GITNA NG SITE NA YUN...

Yep. eye catching talaga ung new City hall ng Tuguegarao... :)...

Quezon City for example, mas maraming establishment na pahalang kesa vertical. Pero mas masmayaman sila ng more than twice compared to Makati... :) ...

That's why the local government should start phasing out these trikes already and encourage taxi operations if we hope to come up to the level of the likes of Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo etc. As of now only these four cities outside metro Manila has that unique distinction to have somewhat an international city character. And you right on the money if we put our bet on Sta Ana as the first to host high rises in the north and might also be the first to have that international city appeal cause the local government can still manage to curb the proliferation of these third world trikes. I think we Filipinos always dare to dream and yet we don't always work very hard to realize that dream haha.

Wow, kayluho naman ata kung taxi... hehe... Mala pa yung ginagamit sa the Fort, pwede sa Santiago yun to replace trykes but not Taxi for this time being.:)^^

Province.

Gen. Ricardo David.

Kasama naman ni Gov. Dy na nakipagpulong kay Pangulong Aquino sina Vice Gov. Rodito Albano, Rep. Ana Cristina Go ng 2nd district.

OO for the sake of argument sige. Kaya nga mahirap maglalagay ng 'tag' kasi pag nilagyan mo ng tag ang isang lugar... it will connotes everything.

Sabi nga ni sir 26619, Makati is the financial district of the Philippines, so how can you compare?

wow...

OR alin bang city ang masasabing may skyline?

Para sa akin ah, Taguig City is the nearest rival of Makati in terms of skyline because of the Global City.

But then sir 26619 is humble enough to admit that really Santiago cannot claim to that. Which is something very admirable of the man. :)

If the so called trikes would be phased-out fron the street, there will be more people out of jobs.:ohno: Unless there is an alternate "LIVELIHOOD" that the city could come-up with to provide those displaced operators once they're banned on the street.:)A scenario that is viable, I thought would be, for the city to take control of the operations of "TAXI" and employ all the trikes operators. (PPP) Public, Private Partnership. :)I am not sure if it is doable though.:) What's your take on this one guys, help me out.

But then sir 26619 is humble enough to admit that really Santiago cannot claim to that. Which is something very admirable of the man. :)

I think "tagging" , if i may say is just like giving a nick name to a city ie; Santiago as the "Queen City" of the North. On the otherhand considering emerging city as the Makati of the North/South I thought is "Emulating" Makati in terms of development and infra so to speak, which is not a bad idea at all. :) However,it is best for an emerging city to just capitalized on the strength and other unique features and available resources it has.:) rather than emulating other cities :) Every city has its own distinct character. Could be similar to another city but not exactly alike.:)

As I have said sir, 'tagging' a city requires more than just a tag line. Its really not a matter of emulating because for one sir, a city might not be suitable enough for the description. And another city would cry out.

But the premise here sir is which city would be the Makati of the North. I think not one is up to the criteria (at least for the moment).

Is there any emerging city that qualifies as the Makati of the North? There isn't any....So what's the big deal is someone would say "this AAAcity" is the Makati of the North. The thing is...an emerging city may not have everything that Makati has, but the truth of the matter is they have what at least it takes to be almost like Makati down the road...is it that hard to swallow? in my opinion sir not one is even close. Taguig City is fast catching up because of the the Global City (Fort Boni). Skyscrapers are rising one after the other which is really good for the country.

its not really a big deal sir. And Im not serious about this. I am just having this 'intelligent' discussion with you.

When somebody tag a certain city as 'super city' someone from Cavite dismissed it right away.

Someone from Pangasinan reacted of the 'queen city' tag.

When Mabalacat in Pampanga was labeled 'Makati of the North', I simply did not agree. Because I live in Clark. And I know the everyday occurences in Mabalacat.

Makati is so grand that any city will suffer from comparison (except Cebu and Davao)

Guys regarding tagging i.e. Queen City of the North, it is not necessary naman that the place be the best city. As I have said, we have been tagging our places for promotion purposes with some good basis of course. Its like an invention subject to copyright, patent or trademark. I.e. Queen City of the North, No one had come up to that tag until Santiago City. Some basis? Its the first City in Region two, Richest in terms of net asset, the progress is "good" so far and most of all, nobody had coined that phrase except someone for Santiago City . But we are not claiming that we are the best.

We have been using this for promotion purposes but not to claim that we are the best.

About the tag "Makati of the North", maybe its really hard to determine which city should own that tag, whoever coined it has the right to award it to someone else. Acceptability is another issue, so you still have to have a basis, and that basis must be respected.

Hehe, wala lang:)

Re: diagram recently posted:lol::lol::lol:

Santiago's CBD - Business area started along National highway thru the creation of a public market. Before Santiago became a city, its business area is just the public market you saw during your childhood days hehe... Since it became a city, its CBD expanded rapidly covering the whole stretch of Maharlika highway, a kilometer of Santiago - Tuguegarao road, Santiago - Quirino Road, Panganiban Street, Arellano street, Magsaysay, the first diversion road. Steps had been taken to make this so called CBD attractive. Among others are the widening of Roads and creation of parks. Good thing, Santiago's CBD is compact and not scattered. Since the existing CBD is almost occuppied by business entities, the city government is now creating a new CBD that can catter big establishments like SM. :)

Sigurado yan, anytime soon or in the next 2 years baka may Savemore na rin sa Cauayan. Its inevitable, talagang lulusubin tayo ng big companies, that's why we have to prepare. The famous 7-11 store alone has already announced that it is going to put up 500 stores in Luzon alone for the next 2 - 3 years, with the first 100 to be put up this year. Ang ratio nila ay 1 store for every 50,000 people. So atleast 1 makakakuha diyan ang isang city. Ilan lang ba ang city sa Luzon? :)^^

Reds burn logging trucks, hold 7 hostage
By FRANCIS C. HIDALGO JR

ILAGAN, ISABELA – Members of the traditionally Maoist New People’s Army burned down several logging equipment worth millions of pesos in an internal Isabela town earlier this week, according to belated Army reports.

Meanwhile, on the same day, another group, also believed to be NPAs, hostaged even people, including two children, in a remote section of this province.

According to reports, the rebels were about to burn said persons when rescued by an Army group.

The 5th Infantry Division (ID) based in neighboring Isabela province, said 10 trucks and bulldozers of the Montealto Logging Co., estimated to be worth P15 million were burned by the armed men in Barangay San Miguel, Echague town around 7 a.m Thursday.

Col. Loreto Magundayao, commanding officer of the division’s civil-military operations battalion, said that the 20 rebels forced the workers to watch their logging equipment being burned.

They then later left on board a logging truck to Barangay Dicamay Uno, Jones.

Army troops are now conducting hot pursuit operations against the rebels.

They said the NPA’s were used to intimidate businessmen who had failed to pay so-called revolutionary taxes, reportedly charging P1 million per bulldozer and P2 per board foot.

Earlier, 50 NPA guerrillas ambushed a police team led by Sr. Insp. Alfonso Derraco, Benito Soliven police chief, in a remote village there, causing Derraco’s death. The others were also hurt.

Meanwhile, seven civilians, including two kids, were rescued by elements of the Army’s 81st Infantry Battalion from an armed group believed to be members of the NPA just as they were about to burn the house where the hostages were forced into in remote village in mountainous Kayapa town last July 22.

According to reports to Lt. Col. Ramon Linasan, commanding officer of the 81st IB based in Sto. Niño III, San Jose City , Nueva Ecija, of the 7th ID, Fort Magsaysay , Palayan City , several rebels had an encounter with elements from the 81st IB’s Bravo Coy under one Lieutenant Piñez near Alang Salacsac village in Kayapa town.

The rebels then retreated and were pursued by the Army men until they reached another part of the village at around 3 pm, when they saw the rebels forcing several residents into a hut which they were in the process of burning.

The government then continued their firefight with the rebels, and eventually overpowered the latter, and rescued the hostages before it was too late.

The released hostages, mostly from the Quilino family, including 5-year-old Gemma Deneng and her six-year-old sister Femy Ann, were later taken to the barangay hall for first aid treatment.

Nueva Vizcaya is mostly part of the area of operations of the 5th ID based in Gamu, Isabela, except for Alfonso Castañeda, Sta. Fe, Aritao, Kayapa, Dupax del Norte and Dupax del Sur in the southern part of the province, which are under the 7th ID.

Wow, good news iyan, 500 stores of 7-11 sa buong Luzon.:)

as long as may willing to acquire their franchise.. why not to put anytime, anywhere basta ba may bibili sa franchise nila.. there 's really a need to put up convenience store lalo na sa mga cities pero ang problema may bibili ba o may mag iinvest?? 7 eleven requires an initial investment of 7M and more.. ministop is 3-5M.. initial lang po yan.. kung ako ang tatanungin Id rather invest in a fast food chain na lang di b rather this kind of business...

yes sir, and you know some people are kinda 'regionalistic' if you happen to know what I mean. hhehehehe. :) Gudnyte sir!

Yeeeaaahhh!!...now I got you:)I understand where you're coming from:) Quite frankly, there shouldn't be anything wrong if somehow ,people would have responded the way they do:) I thought it is a natural reaction.:) However, If I were them, I would have been more open-minded rather than dismissive; more constructive and supportive rather than critical, rise above it and delve into the issue further to understand where the other person's coming from, rather than being defensive:)
I thought that, it is how we perceived things (issue at hand) that would allow us to be able to respond either positively or negatively.:) I have to be pro-active, rather than re-active
Delving into the issue further would have even given me a better perception what they're doing right and their bases to tagged their city with a certain tittle.:)I would consider it a learning process while digging deeper into it:)
If I would have reacted negatively and dismissively, I wouldn't be able to see the other person's point of view, that means I would be guilty of the so called

Actually, kaya ko lang naman nabangit ang 7-11 is to give some proof that Multi-national or Big companies are now starting to engulf cities/ towns outside Mega Manila, so I/we as small players, as well as the LGUs have to prepare for this.

Pero sige, just to complete the news, 60% will be franchise and the remaining 40% or equivalent to 200 stores will be put up by Eleven Corp. itself:)...

@ Justin and Ephesus... Naiintindihan ko rin naman si Justin, ganyan din naman ako minsan o madalas, may "pagka" or parang defensive ang dating kasi there are persons who make subtle attacts or create a notion in the air that they are superior among the others. kaya important ang source talaga para atleast mabawasan or hindi maisip na gumagawa lang ng kung ano ano. Important ang source if a reasonable mind would think that the poster is the author of what he posted, and whatever notion he is creating is his own idea.

Ok lang naman, basta mapanindigan.

Pero better kung wag natin pag-isipan na ganun nga ang intention ng isang forumer not until it becomes evident that the forumer's intention is really such.

Kaya, sa Santiago, we rather create our own name, kesa magfranchise.

oo nga po!! 7 eleven or ministop ay takbuhan ng kagigising at nagugutom.. takbuhan ng tamad magmirienda sa mall at sa ice cream ng ministop o 7 eleven ang pupuntahan.. but its not the physical aspect of it that some of our kababayan are fascinated.. its not that they are amazed "uyy may 7 eleven o ministop sa min ang ganda".. i think our kababayan are lil bit excited of it just because of the investment that would come to our locality.. 7 eleven lang yan pero to have it as a franchise kelangan mo ng at least 7-10M ti initially prepare the over all outlook of the business.. san ka kukuha niyan kapatid?? even ministop as local competitor of 7 eleven requires you to have an initial 3-5M investment.. ganun ganun lang yun kapatid, ganun lang tingin natin pero ganun pala ang kelangan natin PERA para lang maka connect ng franchise niya.. :)

IM LIL BIT DISAPPOINTED WITH OUR KABABAYAN.. ANO PO B NAKAKTAWA FOR BEING EXCITED OF HAVING 7 ELEVEN SA LOCALITY NATIN KAPATID?? YES PATI BA PA NAMAN YANG 7 ELEVEN ATAT ANG KABABAYANG NATIN MAGKAROON.. WHAT IS 7-10M SAU?? GANUN LANG KAPATID?? IM DISAPPOINTED DAHIL PINAGTATAWANAN NATIN ANG MGA BAGAY NA NAGBIBIGAY UNLAD SA BAYAN NATIN... BIG THINGS COMES FROM SMALL THINGS.. KUNG AKO, MAGIGING EXCITED AKO NA MAGKAROON NG 7 ELEVEN SA BAYAN KO COZ SOMEBODY DARED TO INVEST AND LAY OUT MORE THAN 10M JUST TO PUT UP THIS PINAGTATAWANANG 7 ELEVEN. WE HAVE A FAMILY RUN BUSINESS( A FRANCHISED ONE).. WE INVESTED 1M FOR IT, AT KAPATID MAHIRAP SIYANG GAWIN.. WE ARE PART OF THE FRANCHISING ENTITIES IN TUGUEGARAO CITY, SMALL THINGS MAN NA FRANCHISE YAN, PANG SIOMAI HOUSE LANG YAN O PANG BURGER, STILL ITS A BIG THING TO MY KABABAYAN COZ THEY ARE THINKING FOR THEIR BEST, THEY ARE THINKING WHAT IS THERE IN THE METROPOLITAN AREAS SHOULD ALSO BE PRESENT IN THE PROVINCES.. IM JUST A LIL BIT DEFENSIVE KAPATID KASI PARTE KAMI SA MGA BUSINESSES NG FRANCHISING..

CAN THE CITY GOVT OF TUGUEGARAO DO SOMETHING TO APPROVE ANY PROPOSAL FOR TAXI FRANCHISE?? THERES AN INCREASING VOLUME OF PASSENGERS USING THE CITY'S AIRPORT FOR CEBU PACIFIC AND AIR PHILS(PAL), THE CITY NEEDS TO UPGRADE ITS TRANSPORTATION SERVICES ESPECIALLY FOR THE AIRPORT..

IVE HEARD THAT CITY GOVT TUGUEGARAO IS STARTING TO PHASE OUT THESE SMOKE BELCHING 2 STROKE TRIKES..I HOPE ALL LOCAL GOVT IN THE REGION ALREADY EXECUTED THIS ORDINANCE..

affordable kasi trikes.

Why not just improve the looks and built ( 4stroke engines) of tricycles?

Or better yet use e-trikes used in Palawan...

So may market or malaki ang market:)

At nag-iiba kasi ang way of living natin, kaya ma-eembrace din natin yan. These companies are actually molding our way of life, hindi natin namamalayan....

According to 7-11, lumaki ang revenue nila ng 5 billion last year ata, so nakikita nila na pwede sila magbranch out specially sa mga key cities.:)

affordable kasi trikes.

Why not just improve the looks and built ( 4stroke engines) of tricycles?

Or better yet use e-trikes used in Palawan...

Exactly!

Not necessarily Taxi, kasi mahal yan at kung mga limang kanto or 3 Km lang naman tatakbuhin mo, e bakit ka pa magtataxi?

Kaya nga ito rin suggestion ko dati when somebody brought up this issue... :)

Actually, kaya ko lang naman nabangit ang 7-11 is to give some proof that Multi-national or Big companies are now starting to engulf cities/ towns outside Mega Manila, so I/we as small players, as well as the LGUs have to prepare for this.

Pero sige, just to complete the news, 60% will be franchise and the remaining 40% or equivalent to 200 stores will be put up by Eleven Corp. itself:)...

:)

I totally agree with you:) You see...7-11 use to have an ill repute in Canada, specially in big cities like Vancouver.:)It use to be the hang out of people who engages in illicit activities like drugs because of the 24/7 operations of the store. Fair enough..if it is coming to Regions outside Metro Manila, I thought its a great...idea

The irony is...I've met few former and current politicians who invested their money here in Vancouver and other cities in NA...while Philippines needs a lot of foreign investment.:ohno: I do understand however why they invest their money abroad....:lol::lol:

FROM FREIGHTRUNNER :7-11 ? Sari-sari store yan dito . What is so special about it? Anong diperensya nun? 7-11 para sikat?

WE ARE PART OF THE FRANCHISING ENTITIES IN TUGUEGARAO CITY, SMALL THINGS MAN NA FRANCHISE YAN, PANG SIOMAI HOUSE LANG YAN O PANG BURGER, STILL ITS A BIG THING TO MY KABABAYAN COZ THEY ARE THINKING FOR THEIR BEST, THEY ARE THINKING WHAT THERE IN THE METROPOLITAN AREAS SHOULD ALSO BE PRESENT IN THE PROVINCES.. IM JUST A LIL BIT DEFENSIVE KAPATID KASI PARTE AKO SA MGA BUSINESS..

Naiintindihan naman kita sir... tinitignan kasi natin dito iba-ibang sides....

Pero, I'm still greatful kung ang 7-11 mismo ay maglalagay ng isa sa syudad natin or may magfranchise na kailian natin... Additional option din ito.

Absolutely!!! Being pro-active makes a lot of sense because you can see and think outside the box:) rather than being re-active where you could miss their points:) Well said kaillian:cheers:
And yeah..we have our own biases at times....which is normal reactions..although not acceptable.

7-11 has its own market. it offers more products and services compared to our ordinary sari-sari store. whether or not a particular location is suitable for a 7-11 store is within the discretion of the company or the franchisee.

imo a 7-11 in santiago city, solano, and tuguegarao city will be commercially viable as evident by the economic vibrancy in these locations.

i am hoping to visit a 7-11 store in r2 in the near future.

I absolutely agree with you. Everyone should or has to start small sowhere somehow. I don't claim to be the person that "knows it all", but I've learned a lot too where I am now. Canadians are the most tolerant people in the developed country, and I am proud to be part of it in many ways, although my heart belongs to the Philippines, I don't have any regret after I renounced my citizenship (Pinoy)

I say this "kailians" with hope that somehow "Pinoys" (me included) would be able to see the bigger picture. Be pro-active and not-reactive. Think outside the box more clearly and would be able to see the other's point of view.

William said..in his postings when we discussed tagging...that there is a tint of Regionalism and biases among us. Reason why sometimes we become sensitive, disappointed and even offended. I agree. It is a common and natural reactions, but there are times when it is not acceptable. Specially when someone makes a claim about his/her city.

We have thousands or may be even millions of bankable, and extremely well educated graduates/workers in the Philippines. Talents, skills, that are available to make a huge impact in the Philippines.

WE can utilize those trainings, talents and skills if only we become pro-active and take a risk. Sometimes instead of learning from somebody when he/she start/claim something, we become dismissive rather than have an open mind.

Imelda Marcos has even learned something here in Vancouver when she a had a visit. The "METRO" concept of Manila was actually orignated here in Vancouver. Mind you wasn't a pleasant visit at all for Imelda:ohno:Eggs were thrown at her:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Some current/previous/former politicains and government servants that manged to hoard a loot from the Philippine treasury invested their money in Vancouver's Real estate.

Philippines has been financially strapped for number of years and need investment to prop up the economy, if those money were invested in the Philippines, I thought the country would be a lot better. Lucky, though that there is a substantial amount of remittances of "Pinoy" workers abroad. Thus kept the Philippines economy afloat. (almost $18b US)anually.
I understand though why they invest their money abroad:lol::lol::lol

Anyways, I just thought I neeed to share you guys what I've experineced. But it doesn't end here. It is a learning process...if we opt to.

For me the key is "It is how we perceive changes" and other things that goes wiht it.

Problem would only arise if Canada does not aknowledge dual citizenship, in that case, you have to choose what citizenship you want.

If Canada acknowledges dual citizenship, then I can tell you, that you are actually a dual citizen.:)

FROM FREIGHTRUNNER :7-11 ? Sari-sari store yan dito . What is so special about it? Anong diperensya nun? 7-11 para sikat?

OK I'm sorry I forgot the difference in culture there hehe. Diyan sa Pinas nga pala ay we go for anything with a name. Akala natin basta nakikita sa movies ay big deal pero sa totoo po ang success ng isang business especially in dealership is location, good customer service, and competitive price. Basta maganda ang location and excellent customer service and keep the price competitive magiging successful yung business mo. One thing I learned when I went for a small business seminar is, it is much cheaper to keep one single customer coming back all the time than ignore the same customer and find a new one. It's not in the name. Of course there are advantages in getting a franchise rather than putting up your own and compete with the biggies. One advantage is their names are easy to recall, they do the advertising for you, help youtrain your employees and supply the products. The disadvantages are, expensive franchise fees, you have to keep up with their standards, regular meetings, with the mother company, being encumbered by monthly royalties. In other words you are still working for the company rather than for yourself. You have just bought yourself a job rather than a business. There's a big difference there.

Total earnings for the first six months of the year goes to taxes..
HST...Harmonized Tax..Sales and purchases, Transit Levy...all sorts of Taxes that the Goverment could come up with...I thought almost like "gouging" the average Canadian...Total taxes we pay basically is 46% or could even more depending on your life style..oh..there is Property tax as well..

I think...it is more on the "Taxation" issue than anything else....I m not wealthy...mind you (business proposals/ideas I floated on my posting were all hypothetical) don't even try to send someone to kidnapped me for ransom because I wouldn't be able to provide:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Anyways what I am trying to say is, about properties in the Philippines.

Yeah....Canadian government recognizes dual citizenship...infact they encourages it..but there is a cath..."Taxes on both side of the pond" which would put a huge dent on my finances....
You cant escape taxation by just prefering to be a Canadian citizen...

You will be taxed either by your citizeship, location of property, place of transaction...:)

If you think your income in Canada will be taxed here in the Philippines, you can avail of a reduced rate by showing that that income has already been taxed in Canada ( this is subject to a reciprocity clause) :)... Moreover, Overseas workers I think are exempt from Tax.:)

I used to have a Franchise myself...but you are right I bought a job formyself.
After 15 years..I sold it. Did I make money...just enough to get by. Sometime regular employess has a better edge...They work 8 hrs...earning reasonable wages with all the bells and whistles that come with it.

Plus ang yayaman diyan is the franchisee.

Hirap talaga magstart ng business dito ngayon... specially if you are just a small player, that's why, I/we as small players as well as the LGU's have to get ready for the bigger companies engulfing towns/ and cities outside Mega Manila.
Imagine a sari sari store competing with a 7-11 sari sari store?

It might work in the Philippines...Here on the otherhand...24/7..the hardest part of being a franchise holder....If you don't have a loyal clientele after midnight you end up in the soup.:) As freightrunner said...just buying and employment. It is expensive to operate a business here in Canada specially in the Winter time...
