That picture makes it look like the biggest building ever.

Enough posts here already...but I have to say that US Bank's logo on the crown really ruins the building. Without the logo, building is a 9.5, easy.

My comments -

A testament to the architectural firm of Pei, Cobb, Freed and Partners!

I've followed this building since its construction in the late 80s...It was exciting to see something taller than the old First Interstate Building (now AON Center).

The placement of the building gave our skyline not only a zenith, but an actual form, an actual symmetry which applied when viewed from all directions.

It was part of the late 80s-early 90s real estate boom in Downtown Los Angeles, and the first generation of "non-box" skyscrapers, which used lights as a night feature.

I can't describe how truly awesome it looked on the night of July 3, 1990 - the first night they lit up the entire tower. I never saw anything like that in the city.

Los Angeles was named after "Our Lady, Queen of the Angels" - to me this tower resembles a man-made Queen of The Angels, with a lighted crown!

The crown itself is a nice characteristic, using translucent panels to change colors for different occasions:

4th of July (Red, White and Blue)
Christmas season (Red and Green)
Lakers Championship (Purple and Yellow)

I can't wait until the Dodgers go to the World Series -- I have no doubt they'll color the crown blue, especially since USBank is an official sponsor of the Dodgers.

Though I HATE the USBank logo on the building. It's brighter than the crown lights and makes the building look cheap. I much prefer the gold-leaf backlit "I" of the old First Interstate Bank, or even a logo-less crown.

Every October they hold a stair race to the top of the building! Imagine climbing 72 stories!

One previous poster said it looked like "snow on the top." -- Even though it doesn't snow in Los Angeles (on the ground at least), during one cold winter, as it rained on the ground, some office workers on the top levels reported seeing snow drifts from their windows!

This is very hard for me because I'm a SF native. The setbacks are nice and this is the landmark skyscraper needed, because they never had one.

The closer you get to it, the more you relize there are deceivingly many angles in it. Nice combination of colors, angles, setbacks, and a beautiful crown to top it off. LA really did itself well when it built this one.

I absolutely adore this building. I will brave LA traffic and take a diversion just to go through downtown to get a glimpse of it. Ever since I was little I've always be drawn to it. I'm glad that it had such a big cameo in "Independence Day"; too bad it had a horrible end!

Just about everything I love about it. It's imposing and has very nice height, but manages to fit in the LA skyline perfectly. It's location puts it in the centre of the skyline from most angles and without it, LA's skyline would be pretty bland. The style is tasteful and timeless. Considering that LA has such strict guidelines for skyscrapers, the designers did a good job of breaking away from the box look. The stepped levels give the perception of more height and the crown....it is mesmorising at night. It's the easiest thing to spot in the entire LA skyline at night and can be seen more than 30 miles away easily. So what cost it the 1/2 point? The silly "US Bank" sign; they need to advertise, but it's ugly up there.

Great building! my favorite LA skyscraper. the only problem that I have with it is that sign on top. other than that it is an amazing building, 9.5/10

"The US Bank Tower exists today for one reason: its neighbor, the Los Angeles Central Library, found itself in deep trouble. Ravaged by fire in 1986, the library was one step away from the wrecking ball when an urban development team stepped in. The team bought the ailing structure, restoring the library and building a 75-story skyscraper adjacent to it."

this buildings nice..maybe its modernized art deco or something, but somehow the setbacks make a good shape. Ill give it a 7.5 almost an 8

Yup. From far away, it looks rather skinny. But up close, it is a very fat building.

Fun fact: The building shape is neither square nor circle.

I love the US Bank Tower's location. No matter where you view downtown LA, US Bank will always remain the focal point.

I give it a 9. I like the shape, the setbacks, and the crown. The facade is a bit bland, but overall it works.

There's not much I can say that hasn't already been said other than that I like the base and entrance too. I've seen it in many commercials and a few movies and I always thought it was very cool and sleek. It also resembles the crown, which I like.

This building truly did make the L.A. skyline and it ranks with the Hollywood sign as L.A.'s icon.

I love this tower - it's been blown to bits in movies like Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow and has been used in thousands of establishing shots - I remember flying into LAX from the East and looking out the window (I was facing right) and I saw downtown LA in it's awesomeness

I can senselessly rant on how this is one of my favoritest towers in teh world - 9.5

7 Its a nice tall tower, but on a whole it looks so bland. Like life was sucked out of it or something, no vibrancy. I like the top of the tower though.

I find this building has really grown on me, If it was in a truly dense city it would be boring, if it was in a somewhat dense city with some urbanity it would be ugly, but in L.A. with it's few skyscrapers in the core, it complements the city perfectly! It's crown and it height give it the appearance of being in the center of L.A. Making it truley L.A.'s Crown. :)

Other than the height, the building is kinda meh

Taking into account it was designed/built in the late 1980's right below an earthquake zone, the building is quite tall and beyond 80's glass-box design. The building is ideally place in the middle of the skyline and serves as a focal point at night. It contains a juxtaposed geometric pattern from the base to the crown. 8.5/10.
